GSM interference in Apple earbuds?

I am well aware of the GSM interference issues with external speakers, etc. However, I frequently hear the same GSM interference through my Apple supplied earbuds.
For some reason, I thought that was not supposed to happen. Is it normal? Do other people experience this? I just want to make sure that there is not something wrong with my iPhone.
Thanks for any responses

Hi Sean,
I think I also have this GSM buzz with my earphone.
I recently found this myself and I was very
surprised. I think this is a normal behavior,
or may be a quality control issue of some production
line of iPhones. So I wonder if you are trying to
replace your current phone with AppleCare, could
you please post your result with new replacement?
(then I may be interested to try a replacement too)
Anyway this is what I found.
How one can reproduce this GSM buzz with earphone:
(0) find a quiet room
(1) turn off Wifi
(2) put your earphone
(3) try to use EDGE network by one of these
weather info
(ii) stock info
(iii) try to load a web page with Safari
(4) if you do one of (3) and see EDGE activity
indicator, you can clearly hear GSM buzz
through your earphone.

  • My Macbook only recognizes Apple Earbuds.... no generic headphones. Help?

My 2010 Macbook has stopped working for almost all types of audio inputs. The exception is my Apple Earbuds. It will not recognize any generic headphones or my 1/8 inch to RCA cables as even being plugged in. Whenever I plug in my generic headphones the audio source quickly flashes from "Internal Speakers to "Digital Output" instead of "Headphones". Then it causes my computer to freeze... But Apple earbuds are FINE. No problems. I think maybe it has something to do with the earbuds having an extra band along the metal part for the microphone... but I am not sure. HELP!

Thanks people I finally got around to like updating the software and I thought that would help, but it didn't long story short I sent it in yesterday ... I hope I get it soon ..
    THANKS FOR ANSWERING ...=]

    Hello there, RufusChloe.
The following iPod Troubleshooting Assistant should help with troubleshooting your issue:

  • Apple Earbuds with remote mic/volume functions not working in Windows

So this is somewhat of a strange one. My new Macbook Pro early 2011 with a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro with all latest updates (including the recent firmware and bootcamp releases) doesn't seem to see my Apple Earbuds with remote as a microphone and the volume commands from the earbuds do nothing. However this works fine under OSX and used to work with my mid 2009 MBP. Anyone else seeing this and does anyone know a way to solve this problem?

I'm having the same problem here. Did you find a solution?

  • Bluetooth hands free for 3G - where is the Apple earbud?

I bought an apple iphone earbud handsfree and loved it... i wanted to replace it after i lost it recently. Amazed that i can't find any trace of it... can anyone tell me where i can get a replacement? I see there are still charger devices for sale but can't see any of the original beautifully shaped Apple earbuds!!! All I can see for sale is 3rd party designs that are not as nice... HELP!!!!!
    Thanks!

The Apple iPhone Bluetooth Headset was discontinued in March, 2009. Short of finding one on eBay or from a retailer with very old stock, I'm afraid you need to consider a 3rd party BT headset. None will show the battery level on the iPhone like the Apple one, though

  • HT3310 I have an iphone 5. Speaker works but I cannot hear through the apple earbuds. Tried multiple earbuds and none work. But they work in other iphone 5.

I have an iphone 5. Speaker works but I cannot hear through the apple earbuds. Tried multiple earbuds and none work. But they work in our other iphone 5.  Has anyone been able to resolve this without pursuing a replacement ?  If so what was the fix?

You're not using a supported carrier. What did you think Apple was going to tell you?
As fizzDripper suggests, contact the SIM card provider. How to make an unsupported SIM work on your phone is not Apple's problem.

  • Audio Problem - Apple Earbud With Splitter Problems

Okay so I know that apple earbuds dont work without a splitter, so i got one. When i plug it in and try skype test call it doesnt seem to be recording anything. When i go to sound options and play music on my computer. I would hear the MUSIC on the headphones and also the microphone bar shoots up as if the sound is being used for the microphone. Im not sure what is the issue. I tried reinstalling realtek and changing settings. I have the LISTEN box unchecked as well.  So overall, the mic has a green check but my voice isnt being registered by the bar that shows the green depening on the insentity of sound. It only goes up when computer sounds are going off. I tried switching the plug and also using just one plug at a time and still no luck. Do i have the wrong wire? is my motherboard / sound card not compatible?  Need Help. Thanks.

I was also having connection issues. If you have a Mac (not sure it is available for Windows)- download iStumbler and see what other routers are broadcasting. You may find that you are simply in a congested area and you are fighting with other wireless routers on the same channel. I ended up getting a new Airport Extreme to give me the dual band and thusfar, have not had any connection issues (and all my devices are wireless, not one hardwire to be found). Now I am a very happy ATV2 owner (of 2 and one day 3). Can't wait to see what they add (they as in Apple or the other guys).

  • Apple Earbuds... a question please

    Hi
I just have a question about the apple earbuds ... is it true that these are the only earphones that work with the Ipod? Because if thats true ... then why did my Panasonic headphones work with the Ipod when I plugged them in to experiment?
    Thanks
    Caroline

"is it true that these are the only earphones that work with the Ipod?"
In a word, no. The iPod works with a very wide variety of headphones. Look at the Apple store and see the many types of headphone that are on sale there.

  • Apple earbud thing not working

Hi I got my iPod 5 gen 32g  in January 2014it is April 2014,
A pair of apple earbud things came with my iPod touch. So anyways my friend parker put my Apple ear buds in a snowbank and now whenever I listen to music the left earbud makes a staticky noise when I try to listen to music. I was wondering if I would beable to get a new pair for free since they are still under warranty.

AFAIK, there's no extension cord. The wired keyboard has a built-in USB cord that connects to the computer.

  • How can i get a broken apple earbud plug out of my phone

my earbud plug broke off at the gym, now I cant use my earpiece on the phone during calls. I brought it to an apple retail store and they will not fix it for me. They told me to go to a jeweler kiosk in the mall! Thanks for your help

Did you try a jeweler - a real jeweler that makes jewelry will have a
large selection of tools for grasping small items. A jewelry store
that only sells jewelry probably will not be able to help.

  • Time Machine Backup interference with Apple wireless mouse

Has anyone else noticed that if the Time Machine wireless Backup to a Time Capsule kicks in it interfers with the wirelss mouse? Is there any way around this?

I don't think it has anything to do with the wireless TC. I have Time Machine set up to backup to my network (NAS) drive and I get interference whether I use AirPort or hardwired ethernet, though the hard wired seems a little better. But I still get dropped mouse moves, what looks like "interference" but probably is not. More likely Time Machine and the Mouse are both sharing an interrupt and not sharing it well. The impact of wireless may have to do with the compression and encryption that is going on rather than RF interference.
All of which gets me no closer to fixing it. It's times like this that I long for open source on the Mac ...
I tried the Microsoft mouse driver package (Intellimouse 8.01 for Mac) in the hope that it might install a better driver, but no luck. And since it's the mouse that is getting starved for attention and not Time Machine, it's more likely that Time Machine is the culprit.
Best of luck getting Apple interested in debugging a problem that only affects Microsoft's mouse ...

  • Apple Earbuds issue

    Hi!
I live in Scotland and have had my iPod Colour (which I bought from Amazon.co.uk) for just over a month.
The only problem with it is that the left earbud has started to make a crackling noise when music is played.
I haven't put them under any excess stress and certainly haven't been pulling wires or anything but my guess is that one of the wires is loose.
I was wondering if anyone knew the correct email address (maybe a UK office?) for me to contact them?
Also do you think they would be willing to replace them or should I be asking Amazon, since they were the vendor?
    Thanks for your help!
    Matt

I would find a Apple Store, and take the Ipod and earbuds to them. The Apple store may replace them. It definitely sounds like you have developed a short in your earbuds. If they were working properly, then you may have unintentionally damaged them. Earbuds can be fairly cheap. So, you may want to purchase a backup pair anyway. This will help you to determine whether it is the IPod or the Earbuds that is causing the problem. GL.

  • Apple earbuds only???

The new Shuffle looks cool but I'm kind of disappointed that the controls are on the earbud cord ONLY. I can't wear earbuds, regardless of brand as they always fall out, especially when exercising. I have a pair of B/O over ear earbuds that work great but obviously I can't use them. I'd like to buy one of these but Apple has made it literally impossible for me to do so. If Apple is wise they will release an inline add on controller for non-apple headphones. Of course that would mean that the new shuffle would cost more to obtain the same functionality of the previous generation. Sometimes it feels like it's two steps forward and 3 steps back.

    Stop on Starnie.
They are trying to make way too many decisions for the customer here.
When I'm working out, I want all the controls and bulk in one spot, right on my waist.
Even if I did like the new control setup and earbuds (which I don't), I hate having to deal with wherever THEY decided to put the controls. Also, when running, I don't want my headphone cord to have any extra bulk for any reason.
They should have just made the new form factor have a single button or 2 that could do the controls. Leave the unmarked if you like, just make them "feel different" so you can tell which is which.
I own all kinds of Apple products, and sadly, this one will get passed over because they decided to change things that are anti consumer friendly and frankly didn't need changing.
