GT60-0NC safe to update Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers

Is it ok to update the Nvidia HD Graphics 4000 driver as well as the Nvidia GT670M graphics card driver by downloading them from the manufacturer's websites? The ones in the MSI page are outdated. Here is the update prompt from:
Intel: http://i.imgur.com/FApEzpI.jpg
Nvidia: http://i.imgur.com/DMmJ5Zy.jpg
I am using Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on a GT60-0NC
Thanks!

it is ok to update them.
make sure you do a clean install with the nvidia driver.
when you say clean install, i uninstall the old then install the new one right? or a repeat install of my OS?

I have seen some of the threads here when i goggled why my computer started crashing and most threads asked for the DxDiag file as well. Just wondering if someone would know what my problem is?I have just updated Skype and my Graphics Drivers today, (read: Radeon 2xx Series Gfx Card, with the proper, and most up to date drivers.) and now I keep getting BSOD's and things when I have a Skype window open, and try to run a game like Warframe on Steam. I have in the past, before these updates even suffered from the Graphics Drivers Crashing when I recieve or make a call with skype, just wondering if that may be an underlying problem as well. All the best and thanks for any help you may have.

If I use the xf86-video-intel driver from extra, the xrandr command to do dual-outputs fails and I get both monitors showing the same desktop (mirrored mode).  I switched to use AUR's xf86-video-intel-git (reading the forums it said this would fix the dual-monitor issue until extra moves to 2.12.0-2) and I do get the dual monitors working propery with the xrandr command, but I'm experiencing wierd effects.  For every unminimized window on the desktop, if I put another window in front, the shadow of the window below stays on top of the window containing the focus.  Hard to explain, so I'll use a photo:
That's what it looks like with xf89-video-intel-git, libdrm-git, dri-git, and anything else git and intel graphics related I can find.  Any ideas what's wrong, or what I would even call this problem so I can look around and see if anyone else is having the same issues?

Ok, I went into the XFCE4 setting manager and opened the "Window Manager Tweaks" module, Under "Compositor" if I disable display compositing the shadowing effect is gone, making the display much more usable (thanks!).  But now compositing does not work.  Guess I'll go report this to XFCE, or is the XFCE compositing manager handled by someone else?

What is a difference between Intel® UMA and intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Which models? UMA refers to shared memory, and is not the actual chipset. So this is simply a case where the video card isn't listed (while in the 3150 model, it is).

  • Intel graphics drivers performance improvement

Just a heads up for people looking to get a little more performance from the Intel on CPU graphics...
I noticed that Lenovo has updated the Intel graphics drivers to version 8.15.10.2418: http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/ddfm/MIGR-77280.html
My i5 X220 Win 7 x64 machine had 8.15.10.2342 installed, and I decided to go ahead and install the recent update.
After installing this and rebooting, I re-ran the Windows Experience Index assessment and noticed that the Graphics subscore has moved to 6.3 from the prior 5.9. The Gaming graphics subscore remains the same as before at 6.3. I haven't noticed any day to day difference yet, but perhaps others will.
Note that this update isn't showing up in Lenovo System Update (at least not for me anyway). But you can manually download and install from the link above.

I'm not sure why they would be so different... Are you running on battery? Mine is powered via 65W adapter through UltraSeries 3 base. Mine is a 4286 CTO with i5-2520M (2.5 GHz). I am using UEFI instead of legacy BIOS.
I don't think it should make a difference, but just in case it does, here is more info on my laptop: extra DIMM (3rd party) installed bringing RAM to 8 GB. BIOS 1.20. mSATA SSD (MyDigitalSSD 64 GB) is startup disk, but ProgramData and Users are on 320 GB drive. Both drives use BitLocker drive encryption (via TPM). The system takes a long time to post (at power on and with reboot) due to Lenovo's problems in the firmware. OS is Win 7 x64 Ultimate. The X220 lid is closed. The laptop is connected to a 1920x1200 display via DisplayPort-DVI adapter
After the computer rebooted I waited a few minutes for Windows services to settle down before starting the WEI assessments.

  • Windows 7 Control Panel Display and Intel Graphics Media Control Panel Constantly

    I have a Nvidia NVS 5200 M running with Intel 4000 and Windows 7 on a Lenovo T430S.
Whenever I load the Control Panel -> Display settings, I can see options just fine, but I click on any of the drop down menus and they appear for a second, then immediately disappear (fast enough that I can't change settings).
There's a similar problem when I look in the Intel Graphics Media Control Panel. It constantly appears to be "loading" - the mouse icon turns into a little blue circle off an on, continuously. Similar thing with the settings, too - they appear and let me change them, but immediately return to the original setting. I can change them if I act SUPER quickly to make the change then click Apply. But 99/100 I'm not fast enough.
All drivers are up to date. I have no idea what to do (reinstall or uninstall this Intel Graphics control panel? How? Or somehow change a setting on my graphics card).
    Please help!

Try uninstalling both drivers, then reinstalling them. Sometimes a clean driver update works better.

  • Re: Satellite A660 - Intel Graphic drivers & Service Pack 1 installation

Hello, hope someone can help me.
I recently put in a new hard drive in my Toshiba A660 Satellite model No. PSAW3A-15J06T, and after reinstalling Windows 7 (64 bit), Service pack 1 isnt shown as an option in windows upgrade. I read on the microsoft site, that my Intel Graphics HD Driver 8.15.10.2119 would cause this problem and it needs to be updated.
I have had no success in finding the correct driver to rectify this.
In the device manager, the name of the driver is just 'Intel (R) HD Graphics' driver date 21/4/2010, version 8.15.10.2119.
I upgraded my Nividia driver successfully from the Toshiba downloads, but cant seem to find a newer driver for the Intel (R) HD Graphics.
I desperately need the Service Pack 1, and cant just download it from the Microsoft download centre either, because the info says to make sure drivers are up to date.
Can anyone point me in the direction to where I can download the correct Intel Graphics driver. I looked at the Intel site, but its just way over my head.
    Hoping someone can help
    Karen

Hi Silas, and thanks so much for your quick reply.
Yes, I made the recovery discs prior to taking the old hard drive out, so all the drivers should have been there.
Yes, I agree its strange that it depends on a driver to prevent service pack 1 being an option in windows update, but thats what they said on Microsoft, so I guess I have to believe it.
I must say, this is the second recovery I have done (2nd hard drive in 3 years), and I vaguely remember the service pack 1 taking a long time to come through the first time around (though it was only 3 months old at the time, so different situation I suppose).
As you advise, I'll wait a bit longer to see. I didnt really want to have to put the laptop into a repairshop for them to find the drivers for me.
    Thank you,
    Karen

  • My i7 does not switch between nvidia and intel

I have a new 15" MBP, i7 which runs nvidia graphics all the time. I am running Cody Kriegers GFX CardStatus which is reporting nvidia graphics run at all times. I can manually switch to intel but as soon as I set it back to dynamic switching it switches back to nvidia. When the machine boots it goes straight to nvidia even tho no applications are running. On boot, the only significant processes running are dropbox and fusion helper. Any ideas why the machine runs nvidia exclusively?

Resolved. Auto graphics switching option in the System Preferences|Energy Settings was turned off. Turned it on, logged off and back on. Seems to be working fine.

  • Nvidia and intel crash on a new MSI GT70 OD

    Hi!
A few days ago I bought the MSI GT70 OD. For a few hours the computer worked fine, but after playing Elder Scrolls online for a few hours the problems started. First I got the following message: Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version xxx.xx stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
The computer did freeze, so I had to press the power button to restart it. After this I tried to play Star Wars the old Republic, and the same thing did happen. After this crash, I got several more crashes just browsing on the internet and even when I did nothing at all.
After this I had to reinstall the whole OS. But it didn't work at all, I got the same crash over and over again. On top of that, the intergrated GPU, the Intel HD 4600 started to crash. I even got the dpc watchdog violation message.
I've tried different solutions, like installing the latest drivers, older drivers, changed power and graphic settings from balanced to high performance. But nothing works, absolutely nothing at all. I'm desperate. My friend have the same computer and the same problem I saved the dump files from the crashes that did happen after I reinstalled the OS. Is there a way to upload them to the forum? I would be so grateful if someone could take a look at them and locate the problem. =/
    Kind regards
    Oskar

  • Updated nVidia GeForce FX5200 U drivers

Does anyone knows where can I find any updated drivers for my iMac G5 64Mb nVidia FX5200 U video card? I checked the nVidia website, and they don't have drivers for Mac.
Specifically, the current Mac drivers don't support the OpenGL 2.0 Extensions completely (such as texture compression).
I've later learned that these updated drivers are released with every OS X update, when is the next update (10.4.3) due?
Does anybody know how can I request such drivers to Apple?
Thanks a lot and I appreciate all your answers!

I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my mid 2009 MBP and now I have maximum resolution of 1080p - so i suspect its the nvidia Graphics card that needs essential updates. Also after extensive search Im starting to get the feeling Apple have cut us off ...  no surprises there.

Is it meant to have both the Intel and Nvidia drivers installed?
Sort of. You don't install the regular nvidia drivers package but the bumblebee one.

  • Set Nvidia over Intel Graphics?

My computer (lenovo y580) has an integrated intel chip, and an nvidia gtx 660m. I have both drivers installed on my system, yet whatever I open it uses the Intel chip to run it, when I really only want the nvidia running it. I am getting really frustrated now, is there a program for my system where you can switch between the devices?

Okay. I think this is what I need. How do I go about this though? Am I supposed to remove my intel or nvidia drivers before applying the hack? Do I do the hack and then the bumblebee support? Even if I get the hack and it works, would it still choose the intel over the nvidia?

  • Incompatibility with Windows 8 and Intel WiFi Drivers

Firefox 17 worked well with my original Intel driver for windows 8 but I had connection issues. I have now updated my Intel driver to 15.5.6 and now several of my websites will not display or load properly. All I get i a white screen with lines of black text or blue hyperlink text. It looks like a word document. Unfortunately I know that it is firefox because the websites work in google chrome. I would prefer to continue using firefox so I would love a patch or an update to change this.

  • X11 and Intel graphics – occasional freeze with recent drivers.

    Hi guys,
Has anyone else experienced a noticeable freeze (lasting between a fraction of a second to several seconds) in X11 with xf86-video-intel on an up-to-date Arch install? This seems more noticeable on less-powerful hardware, particularly my Netbook!
The multi-system emulator Retroarch really used to perform well (i.e. sustained smooth scrolling) under Arch, but now seems to lock up for a moment every 10-20 seconds. This only happens in full-screen mode with vsync enabled and it is NOT the emulator that is at fault. I have an older Arch install on a USB stick that works fine with the current build of Retroarch. Very strange indeed.
I know there isn't a lot of information here in terms of package versions, but I wanted to put the feelers out before I start churning through older versions of xf86-video-intel and X11 packages to narrow down the point at which this started.

This behaviour was introduced in xf86-video-intel-2.99.912-1. With the previous package - xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz - this did not occur.
EDIT: could this be related? :
