GT60 Dominator-660

Hello, I searched for this but couldn't find anything (apologies if this has been asked before).
I'm looking at purchasing a GT60 Dominator-660,  which is the 12GB-ram version of the GT60 Dominator (compared to the 8GB GT60 Dominator-424).
Here is the PDF specs sheet straight from MSI's website:  http://us.msi.com/pdf/GT60%20Dominator-660.pdf
Landing page for the GT60 dominator-660 laptop:
http://us.msi.com/product/nb/GT60-Dominator.html#hero-specification&sku_no=102
I have a couple questions that I cannot find the answers to:
1) RAM,  the 12GB is a 8GB + 4GB chip?  Memory can be upgraded to 16GB (2x8GB) or higher?
2) HDD, Laptop comes with a 1TB HDD, what other slots / SATA (or mSATA) are available in the laptop?  Does the laptop support any combo of a SSD + traditional HDD?
Thanks in advance for any information ya'll can provide.
-ryan

- Both models have 4 ram slots or just GT60 Dominator-424 have 4 ram slots? YES, they both have 4 ram slots
- Both models have msata raid adapter or just GT60 Dominator-660 have msata raid adapter? According to the spec sheet, it looks like the way you said, but normally if you have mSATA SSD on the spec, then there will definitely has the mSATA to SATA adapter inside. (You can double confirm with the MSI US office)
Here about GT60 Dominator-660 what is mean? The maximum capacity would be 32GB but for the reason why they put this, I think you should ask the website to get the exact answer.

  • Installing SSD in GT60 Dominator

    Hi,
I just picked up a new GT60 Dominator 3K Edition. The laptop did not come with an SSD installed, though I had a 240GB SSD from my old laptop, and I would love to be able to shift the OS over to the SSD and use the 1TB drive just for data and a few rarely used programs.
Anybody have any answers as to how to do this?
F3 system Reset/Refresh doesn't give me the option to install on a different drive, Creating a recovery disc using BurnRecovery software doesn't seem to work? Any solutions? What if i Swap the 2 drives over physcially inside the laptop, and use the different SATA ports, would that get me anywhere?
    Thanks in advance?

There's a number of different ways to do it, but here's my preference....
    1. Make the MSI Burn Recovery  (backup) disks/DVD's.
    2. Before installing the SSD, ensure that there are NO partitions on the SSD. It needs to be unpartitioned so the Burn Recovery disks can set it up properly.
    3. Remove HDD, Install SSD (into SATA3 location).
    4. Install the OS and such using MSI Burn Recovery.
    5. After setting up the OS and getting everything running properly, shutdown.
    6. Install HDD into secondary/SATA2 slot.
    7. Ensure that the BIOS recognizes both drives and that the SSD is set as the boot drive.
This is much longer than just attempting to clone, but I don't trust cloning from a HDD to an SSD. In the end, if/when it doesn't work, you'll end up doing this anyway. Personally, again, I know this works and it's how I would do it. Save yourself the headache.
IF MSI Burn Recovery isn't working, I'd contact MSI. Something might be wrong with your installation.

  • MSI GT60 Dominator Pro performance with Battlefield Hardline BETA

    Hey everyone!
I have played the Battlefield Hardline closed BETA on my MSI GT60 Dominator Pro, I played it on 3K resolution with all FULL MAX settings! I played a few games with no problems and very smooth gameplay, very impressive and only in BETA stage! here is some screenshots that shows the graphics settings too.
Easy game on the GT60!

thanks for your sharing:D, a lots of people talking about 3K panel now, I think it worth while it come with GTX870M graphic.

  • MSI GT60 Dominator 424 - Low Frame Rates

Hi fellow MSI fans!! Just got my MSI GT60 Dominator 424 packed with 4800MQ and the nvidia GTX870M.Sadly i noticed very low fps on all games. Battery mode set a high performance. GPU selected as 870M and not the intel while gaming. GPU setting all set to optimal values(No AA or Vsync).
    Dota 2 : 65-75 Fps
    Starcraft 2 HoS : 35-65 fps
Only 2 games tried so far. In game settings - Ultra with no AA.
Is there an fps limitation in the nvidia Drivers or is something else wrong??
Not able to enjoy gaming :( My other laptop with gtx560M performs better

I tried the msi driver no difference in performance from the latest driver, Also repasted the GPU & CPU with IC Diamond 24 to reduce heat and fan noise got about 3-5 degree improvement (90c) while using FurMark. 800 series isn't living up to its reputation
Try to set the ‘javaw.exe’ to run on NVIDIA GPU. This will improve the FPS of Minecraft.
Minecraft is running by ‘javaw.exe’ and since it’s not actually a game's .exe file, NVIDIA Control Panel can't detect it and it'll be running by Intel GPU.

  • The most powerful NVIDIA GTX880M on is now on GT70/GT60 Dominator Pro

  • [GT60 Dominator PRO] Adding SSD advice

    Hello all,
I bought my new laptop yesterday and it's awesome! I got the GT60 2PE Dominator PRO 3K edition with an already built-in SSD card of 128 Gb and thus also the Super RAID 2 module in it. I bought 2 extra SSD cards because I also want to install some of my games on SSD and the 128 is just not enough for all of them + Windows 8.
Now my problem is that I am a complete noob when it comes to HDD/SSD setups. I have searched the internet for how to do this but unfortunately I can't seem to find a good guide which covers my exact problem. What I want is to set up my 3 SSD cards in RAID0. Preferably without having to re-install Windows 8 (but I don't know if this is even possible).
If I have to re-install Windows, I might want to setup my 2 new disks as RAID0 and my original SSD as a seperate drive for my OS and maybe some software. Then I can install my games on the 2 other disks without hampering my OS in performance (since it will always have enough free room on the drive). But again, I don't know if this is possible.
Or is there another (better) option for me to use?
Last but not least, if someone can explain the steps or direct me to a good guide on how to install them in the configuration on the software side (I already plugged them in the computer). Like BIOS setup, how to make sure the computer sees them properly, what and how to (de)activate certain stuff (like defrag, and i read something about trimming or whatever it is called). That would be a really great help and really appreciated.

Does it come with this adapter ?

  • MSI GT60 Dominator Pro 475 - nvlddmkm errors when on Hybrid Power

    Hi there,
I'm having some issues with a brand new GT60 Dom Pro with NVIDIA GTX 880M and I'm hoping you can help. Whenever I play a game and Hybrid Power kicks on, I begin to have horrible frame rate issues and audio/video stutter. Sometimes the machine will recover, other times the game will crash.
System logs usually show several nvlddmkm errors around the same time ("The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found.") I have also seen several instances of Resource Exhaustion Detection indicating that the system is low on Virtual Ram (which really should not be the case with 16GB RAM and Windows managing the page file).
I've tried a few different, recent NVIDIA drivers. I've run hardware tests on the CPU, RAM, and Video Card (heaven benchmark) with no concerns. One thing I find curious is that heaven shows only 4GB of RAM on the GTX880M, where there should be 8GB.
I know the nvlddmkm error can have many causes. If anyone has any ideas to try I would really appreciate it!

Here I will post you my Update on my own thread what I made about the heat and fan.
As I understand from an other guy here, MSI overclock the GPU directly after you start a game to it´s max to 93°C and then the problem starts.
I can't understand why MSI only used 1 fan until the new 72.
I enjoyed it at my ASUS one quiet and cool.
    But anyways.
    UPDATE
Today I got a Notebook cooling pad from Coolmaster (the XL).
I got it because of the loud fan and the heat, the cooling pad is awesome, it´s so quiet (19 Db), the Notebook fan is also much quieter now, and I got a temperatur drop of about 18°C permanently.
I will still buy a new thermal past when I have time and put it on it, for a a better cooling.
    http://www.pic-upload.de/view-23998698/3.png.html
    http://www.pic-upload.de/view-239987...nannt.png.html
So after 5-6 Hours of playing Arma 3 I made this screenshots.
I was told MSI overclock the GPU to get at it´s max directly after booting the game, before I got the cooler it was at 93°C and after I got performance drops...
Now the GPU don´t get even close to the 93 mark, but now it´s at 75 and the GPU still down clock itselfs and only work with 50%.
    And I don´t know why....
A friend of mine just got the ASUS ROG with the 880m and can play arma at 60fps at max, and I´m still sitting here at my 21...
    Any ideas ??
I think one of the problems is the Hybrid power which don´t really work as you can see, it goes on and off always.

    Another possibility...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
You've probably got a couple of corrupt preference files.
Move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences>com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost>com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist
where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
    Reboot.
This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).

So i've had my laptop for about 6 months now and the webcam was working fine until the other day. It was hidden in device manager and when you clicked on it it said 'Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)'. I uninstalled the device and now i'm stuck because I can't figure out how to sort out the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure you turn the webcam on by using the Fn+F6.
It won't show up in the device manager unless you turn it on.
Yeah i was just gona post that, you JackSessions you might of pressed FN + F6 by accident that disables the webcam fully so try doing this same button method again and see if webcam works again

  • GT60 Dominator Pro 3K-475 Wifi Issues

Ok so after 3 weeks of having receiving my laptop the Killer Network adapater would lose its internet connection, even though it stated that I was connected to my 2.4Ghz network via wifi (all my other devices worked fine ipad, etc.) I updated the drivers for the adapter and the issue seems to have been resolved but only for the 2.4 ghz connection. The problem I am having now is that I can't connect to the 5GHz band (I have a dual band router). When I click to connect I immedialty get an error message and a Windows Help page appears on the screen (its automatic, the adapted doesn't even try to connect). Also in order for the 5ghz network to appear I have to restart my laptop. All my other devices connect fine to the 5ghz connection btw. Please let me know if there are any solutions for this.

When first time to use MSI gaming notebooks, you will feel amazing about the SteelSeries keyboard is really good typing feeling and solid based. It comes with multi-color backlit and move the windows key to right side, that really professional design as a gaming notebook keyboard, and the only one with real gaming design.
Take a look in the SteelSeries Engine, the exclusive gaming software only for MSI gaming notebooks. This macro keys software built in Keypress macro, Text macro, 1 key launch program and Disable key function, besides F1~F12, all other keys could be used for macros setup, and 4 layers of keyboards o setup 4 sets of macros with 4 sets of different backlit combinations, so this is really a great software for smarter and stylish gaming experience.
With CPU-Z tool to check, the upgraded Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, TDP 47W, 4 Cores 8 Threads is really great performance, CPU Boost could up to 3.5~3.7GHz.
Because of Core i7 4800MQ and GTX880M, the 3D benchmarks comes with breakthrough scores than ever on the notebook platform, 3D Mark Fire Strike: P5351 pts.
The GT60 Dominator Pro on 3D Mark 11 gains P8461 pts, it’s whole new level of the gaming notebooks, and It’s over 15% faster than GTX780M!
The 3D Mark Vantage boost up to P33115 scores, it’s 14% faster than GTX780M!
Then we check on other software of DirectX11 3D performance, the Heaven Benchmark is world’s 1st software tool to test DirectX11 effects, this time we use Heaven Benchmark version 3.0 to test.
Set the Tessellation on normal to enable DirectX11 effects and run Benchmark, the Full HD resolution could get 78.2 FPS(Frames Per Second) high score result.
Since this GT60 is 3K IPS panel edition, of course we have to try 3K resolution, you could see that the result block is smaller at 2880x1620 resolution, the result is 42.7 FPS with same setup, so we could say that 3K resolution will reduce over 45% of the FPS rate in this test, but GTX880M is too powerful, so still over 40FPS, and most games we need to get over 30 FPS to play and feel smoother, at least 20 FPS to play a game, if lower than 20 FPS, that will makes people feel lag obviously and feel dizzy easily.
Since we tried some benchmark, of course we have to try at least a famous game to the real world experience. Battlefield 4, the biggest FPS game title since end of 2013, is one of the heaviest loading games on PC platform.
First we made Battlefield 4 detail at 1920x1080 with Ultra Graphics Quality setup.
The gaming frames is 46 FPS, really smooth and around 20% faster than GTX780M.
Once we tune up the resolution to 2880x1620, the FPS drops a lot because the Ultra mode also set 4xMSAA (Anti-Aliasing), that will impact the performance a lot in higher resolution, also make graphics memory demand around 3GB~4GB, seems the 8GB GDDR5 with GTX880M is prepared for upcoming games with such as 3K or even higher resolutions!
We could see it’s about 24~28 FPS under 3K resolution with Ultra Graphics Quality, most time it will reduce over 40% FPS rate of the gaming performance.
Seems to set the Battlefield 4 with “High” graphics quality on 2880x1620 resolution is more suitable to play the game smoother in every theme.
It’s about 42 FPS, close to the 1920x1080 Ultra graphics quality. So if we want to play heavy loading games at 2880x1620 resolution, set to High graphics quality setup is a good option for 3K gaming!
After these 3D and gaming tests, let’s take a look on the temperature of the cooling system. The room temperature is 25 degree C, the temperature of fan out part is 71.2 degree C, it’s not a surprise because of GTX880M and Core i7 4800MQ, even it’s a bit lower than most gaming notebooks with this 2 combinations. The palm rest and keyboard side is 30.6 degree C, it’s really cool for users to hands on.
After the fabulous experience of great 3D performance, let’s take a look on the benefits of “Super RAID 2”, normal 2.5” HDD is about 80~100MB/s, single SSD is about 400~550MB/s, BUT, GT60 Dominator Pro boost over 1536MB/s and average is 1477MB/s, that’s 15x faster than single HDD, almost 3x faster than single SSD.
If we check on the AS SSD Benchmark tests, you could see more detail of the storage access performance is amazing, the Sequential read is 1116.76MB/s, write is 786.79MB/s. 4K-64Thrd read is 665.09MB/s, write is 461.18MB/s, it’s ultra fast!
The GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition comes with Killer Doubleshot LAN and WiFi, it provides faster response time of gaming experience, when you at different LAN/WiFi environment, Killer software will ask you to make an internet speed test, this will fine tune your LAN/WiFi for smoother and faster online experience.
MSI also got a new software tool called “Dragon Gaming Center”, this tool is also good for hardware monitor and utility launch tool. Also could show the status of Hybrid Power enable or disable.
The ultimate weapon for enthusiast gamers:
The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS version is extremely powerful, it comes with most of the features that a great gaming notebook could have, 3K IPS panel is really great effect of vision quality, SteelSeries keyboard with SSE is amazing for gamers to play their games smarter, Sound By Dybaudio present really good detail sound quality, Killer Doubleshot is faster for online gaming, of course the GTX880M is awesome for gamer to play Full HD even 3K resolution games, the backlit of Dragon logo and keyboard is really beautiful.
    Conclusion:
The overall score I will give this GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition with Super Pack is 95 out of 100, this is really great machine for any hard core gaming or power user usage, I would recommend any one to must-have this notebook if it’s affordable for you!!

Ok either you work for MSI or you changed the settings in 3dmark11. I only scored around 5K with my GT60 2PE 3k. Any idea why I'm scoring 3k below you? Laptop was plugged in btw. Also how can you enter bios settings with this laptop? I suspect that maybe the hybrid gpu thing is affecting my score, and the Pc is probably not fully utilizing the GTX 880M, maybe in bios I can disable the integrated CPU's video card??? Please let me know. Thanks.
