Gt683dx possible motherboard problems?

Hello,
May 2012 I bought a MSI Gt683dx laptop. My experience with this laptop has not always been positive, but now a new and even stranger problem has arrived!
In December 2012 I got a glass fiber internet connection of 100Mbps. Since my laptop is connected directly to the glass fiber modem with a cable, it will use the full internet speed. With several speed testers, I always get a download speed between 85/100 mbps.
As of yesterday however, my laptop refuses to download faster than 9Mbps. I reset the modem, switched cables and contacted the provider. They told me there was no connectivity problem at my adress. Sceptical as I was, I connected a 5 year older MSI laptop I still had laying around to the cable. To my great surprise this one did manage to pull in the full internet speed.
So, same router, same cable, but one Laptop doesnt manage to get the full internet speed while the 5 year older one does.
I used the F3 recovery function to completely reinstall my computer. Then I went to the MSI site to update my drivers. It simply refuses to update the BIOS ("not compatible with x64") and with the Realtek driver I get the "findfile" error.
I ran the speedtest again, and to my surprise; still only 9mbps.
Over the past week weeks, my computer has experienced some 'stutters', wherein the sound and image will hang and sound mechanical for a second or more, usually with an interval varying between 10 seconds and 1 minute. A restart fixes this problem (temporarily) but my tech savy friends told me that this might indicate a motherboard problem. Since this problem is now added to the list, I wonder whether they are right.
I have tried contacting the MSI customer service for problems in the past, but I want to avoid that if possible :/ the people I get on the phone barely speak Dutch or English, which makes communicating about technical problems quite daunting. I tried the email too, but I never got a single reply.
So is there someone here who can help me?

In order to update the bios you need to use the MSI flasher...
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
The stuttering is quite difficult to really diagnose without being there and seeing it. It could be a driver or software or it could be hardware. I've had all those cause stuttering in different computers I've had. That being said, if you feel there is a hardware problem, I would still contact MSI support about it and possibly get an RMA going.

  • Possible Motherboard Problem (MSI K7T266)

Last year I won a MSI K7T266 motherboard and AMD Athlon 1800 from the AMD extreme performance giveaway.  I build a system and everything was fine until two months ago.  I started to get the blue screen of death while running Windows 2000 Pro.  I figured out that one of my three sticks of 2100 DDR RAM has gone bad by removing them one by one until the computer was semi-stable.  Without the bad stick of RAM the computer boots and allows Windows to load.  The problems started again when a program would cause an “illegal operation” the computer would restart.  The computer is now to the point where it will not load Windows correctly 90% of the time.  The computer boots past BIOS and then starts loading Windows.  At the welcome screen there is a short pause, and then the power to the motherboard flicks off and it starts over.  This will go around and around until Windows finally loads completely or I get sick of it and turn the power off.  My problem is that I’m not sure what component is causing the problem.  Does this sound like a motherboard, RAM or processor problem?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Possible motherboard problem

2 years ago I bought the MSI P55A-G55. I used it for gaming until 1 1/2 year later BSOD came up saying Process1_initialization_failed and sometimes ntdll.dll etc. I could not boot to windows7.
Then after doing some researching, I learned that it could be the HD's problem or a file is missing. I did try to re-install a fresh win7, vista, and xp and it wont let me. I still get the same BSOD.
I decided to buy a new GPU, CPU, PSU, HDD, RAM, and optical drive heck even new SATA wires and the same motherboard. I still get the same BSOD...
Any idea to what is doing this?
edit: And this is why I came up with the conclusion that it is my motherboard's problem.
Any help would be gladly appreciated.

I have never updated my BIOS because I could not even install a copy of an OS. Right after the loading screen for setting up an OS it blue screens.
You dont have to have an OS installed to flash a bios, its even risky to flash from within an OS.

  • Dead T43 - possible motherboard problem?

    All,
I own a T43, model 1871-FU1, that recently died.  Just went to boot it up one day and nothing happened, no lights, no fans, nothing.  I took the battery out and tried to reset it, nothing.  I connected my power cord to the a/c meter and it's working.  I've done some research and it appears that my motherboard is toast, apparently a fairly common problem with this model.
The computer is out of warranty, does Lenovo have a fix for this situation or am I just out of luck?
    Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, there is NO reflowing of GPU on machines with Intel integrated graphics, such as T43s with model numbers starting in 187x...
    Cheers,
    George

  • Laptop LED goes on but NOTHING after cleaning fan ... possible motherboard problems

So I took apart and cleaned my laptop. I thought it would go smoothly since I successfully did it last summer. However now I'm stuck in a situation where the power led goes on, but the laptop is completely silent except for spinning the fan every few seconds. I've tried putting in the memory and the hard drive, nothing! It's not the only situation I've found myself in - earlier after I dusted the heatsink/fan it gave a warning that the fan wasnt working. I think I solved that though, since the computer is spinning the fan, but I am pretty concerned for my laptop, so does anyone please have advice. Any would be appreciated here

    Hi @friedcomputerz2
OK, I see that your notebook will not longer bootup. It powers on, but does not proceed beyond a blank screen. I am happy to help with this.
If you are not getting any error messages, flashing LED patterns, or beeps, then this is where to start, especially with the Hard reset.

  • K7N2-L motherboard problems, and questions!

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I think it is.
I have a K7N2-L motherboard that is giving me fits! I can't find this board in the data base to try and trouble shoot my issue, either.
    Here's my questions:
Problem 1) There are three empty spaces in the floppy drive connection (plug) of this motherboard. Two of the spaces are in the second row, and are side by side, and don't appear to have ever had pins installed. This may be normal. These two empty spaces (blue X's) correspond to spots that don't even have holes through the motherboard to even install any pins. However, the third missing connector pin does appear to have had a pin soldered into it (red X), but now there is no pin. Also, when I attempt to start the system, the motherboard does post and will allow you to enter the BIOS set up. However, at the same time, I get a "Floppy Drive - FAILURE" warning during this part of the start up. This indicates to me that the drive is not being detected, and it may be caused by the suspected missing pin (red X). Here is a crude visual of the floppy plug lay out in question. The green I's indicate existing pins, and the X's the missing pins. The blue X's are the ones that appear to never have had pins, but the red X appears to have had a pin, as it's soldered, but is missing. Please, note the notch at the top of this crude illustration for proper orientation of the plug. If you have any info on this, please, give me some insight as I can't find any way of referencing this problem.

    Floppy Connector Layout
Problem 2) It's possible this problem is a BIOS problem, and could be corrected with a BIOS update. However, since I don't currently have a floppy drive, I can't update the BIOS. I've set the BOOT priority in the BIOS as, 1-Floppy; 2-CD-Rom; 3-HDD0. However, the board selecting the devices in the proper order, and thus I can't get any of my drive to boot from either a CD or a Hard disc. I do know that the processor I'm using is good, as it came out of another operating system board. The processor is an AMD Duron 1800/266 FSB. Here's what is being seen with the BIOS with regards to the processor. If, in the BIOS, I set the FSB to 100MHz the processor shows as a 1200MHz processor instead of an 1800. However, when I reset the BIOS FSB to 133MHz (as it should be) the BIOS now shows the processor as a 1900+. Neither of these is correct. Any ideas as to what may be going on?
    Thanks in advance.........

    Hi
I just checked 8 motheboards that I have laying around from MSI, Asus, Intel and Biostar.  The pin location that you have marked in red does not have a pin in it.  The ones that you marked in blue do have pins in them.  If you are not the original owner, it may be that someone tried to replace a couple of broken pins and gave up.
A bios update should take care of the failure to recognize your Duron 1800.  I have provided a link where you can see the later bios revisions.

  • Is there a motherboard problem in HP pavilion dv7-3160us?

i have a problem where when i play a game it freezes then i have to force shutdown by holding the powerbutton. Then when i try to start it up again it turns right back off, i have to do this about 5times. I check on websites and such to figure out the problem and i found something about a motherboard problem with some of Hp notebooks. What is a motherboard and is this problem possible to solve?

Unfortunatley yes...  I have the very same exact issue with my friends dv7 and after some research online it is a bad system board. Actually a bad intergrated power supply that is in the board.. My friends machine is only 15 months old and now its a 1300 paper weight unless he send it in  and spends a addidtional 300 for the board.  I basically laughed at the on duty supervisor and stated how much of a poor product this is..  This should be a manufactures defect and HP refuses to acknowledge that it is.. I am in the IT industry and see this sort of thing all the time. The supervisor had the nerve to say to me "You do understand the concept of a warrenty?"  From that point after I reliazed that I was going to go nowhere with these clowns I stated to him that I will never ever buy a HP product nor refer one to anyone else...
    Good luck--

  • IBook  motherboard problems???

I just bought my first Mac an iBook G3. I started cheap to see if i would like it and i do. But someone told me that the iBook G3 is notorious for having motherboard problems. Is this true for all iBook or was it just a select few? and how will i know if i have an iBook that was affected by this?
    Thanks

Enough Dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from the logic board problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. The program is mostly over now, since there was a three-year time limit from the initial date of purchase. They were discontinued in October of 2003, so it's highly unlikely that any remain eligible for repair under that program.
The program began with just a limited number of serial numbers of 800 MHz iBooks. It was gradually expanded to include all iBook G3 (Dual USB) computers.
There may be no way of knowing whether or not your iBook was one that was repaired. I have read (and believe) that you can decrease the chance of logic board failure by never picking it up by the left front corner alone. If you are picking it up with your left hand, grab it in the middle under the trackpad. Another idea is to put it on a hard lap desk or acrylic cutting board, and always pick the two up together. (The case has a tendency to flex — on some iBooks more than others — and the theory is that the flexing of the case can allow the solder on the graphics chip to loosen.)
That said, there are many, many happy iBook users out there who never knew about the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program because they have had no problem whatsoever with their iBooks.
    Good luck with yours.

  • Possible conflict/problem if using edk 5.2.0 with plumtree portal 5-0-3 and collaboration v4.0.1?

    Hi,
We are using plumtree portal v5-0-3 and collaboration v-4.0.1. I have to create a portlet where users can use it to submit a request for a collaboration project to be created. Searching through Plumtree Developer Center, there are documents that show me how to create a collaboration project using edk library. The edk that comes with plumtree portal v5-0-3 doesn't contain the api(s) that I need (for example, com.plumtree.remote.prc.collaboration.project.*). However, the edk 5.2.0 does contain these api(s).
Are there any possible conflicts/problems if I use the edk 5.2.0 with our existing plumtree portal v5-0-3 and collaboration v4.0.1? If there are, is there any other way that I could get to these api(s) somehow to create collaboration projects?
Thank you in advance for helping!

Thank you so much for responding so quickly!
Is there any api or way that I could use to create a collaboration project without using the Project Explorer? In our scenario, after a user uses the portlet that I describe earlier in the original disscussion message to request the creation of a project, an admin will take a look at the request and click a button to have the project created. This button will somehow trigger some scripts or codes instead of the admin using the Project Explorer to create the project.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • L655D-S5055 LCD horizontal line issue - possible motherboard or GPU failing??

    Hello,
A few weeks ago a horizontal line running from the left edge to the right edge of the LCD about 2 1/4"
from the bottom of the LCD started to occur.  The line shows up from the time the screen turns on
and remains in CMOS or the Win 7 desktop.  I have replaced the LCD panel with a new OEM LCD
panel, this did not resolve the issue.  I replaced the internal video cable, this did not resolve the issue.
Since the line occurs in the CMOS screen (DOS prompt screen) or in Win7, there is not video driver
issue I believe.  I also updated the L655D BIOS to the latest v2.10  Nothing has resolved the issue.
Is this possibly a sign of a GPU issue at the motherboard level? I have noted that the space below the line does "flicker" or distort the image, but only below the line.  The rest of the image on the screen stays without any problem.  I have also attached the laptop to an external monitor which has no line like this or any issues with the display at all.  Thus the reason I had originally concluded the LCD panel and internal
    video cable.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem with specific motherboards with this model laptop, or GPUs?
Is there a replacement motherboard program for this laptop as this is certainly a quality issue that should
not be left for the enduser to replace the motherboard and be charged a high cost repair such as this!
I appreciate any guidance or advice on this issue.  I have attached two pictures for reference of this problem.
One shows the line in a Command prompt screen, the other while in Win 7.
[Updated: 2-Apr-2013]  based on further research and experience with other similar issues, I am beginning to think this is related to heat and the GPU impacted by poor quality soldering or some other issue of that nature.  I have performed "reballing" with other products, but am not sure about whether this issue can be resolved or how to go about an effective "reball" for this product motherboard.  A replacement, used motherboard is hard to find and if found are over $150USD.  Again, it seems unfair to the consumer to have a laptop like this for 4 years and need to replace the motherboard or live with this issue until the unit fails completely.
    Thank you in advance.

  • K9N Platinum Motherboard problem???

Hello. I got a K9N-Platinum motherboard and AM2 X2 4600+ CPU. However, I often got the following problem:
My system sometimes froze, no response at all, couldn't use mouse and keyboard of course.
    1) I set up the system to shut down monitor after 60 minutes. However, sometimes the system couldn't
recover, all parts stopped working, including hard disks.
    2) When the hard disk is transferring, such phenomenon could happen again.
Finally I found a solution. I had to manually set up the CPU voltage to "1.35V" in BIOS which can resolve my problem completely.
This problem only happened when the cpu voltage was set to "auto".
I thought it was a power management problem, so I installed hotfix KB896256 and KB924441 and all dual-core
cpu optimizers, the problem still existed.
    My system is as follows:
    K9N Platinum with BIOS 1.6 (601-7250-070********)
    AM2 X2 4600+
    Geil DDR2 800 1G*2
    Inno3D 7900GS
    Western Digital Raptor 37G
    Liteon 18X DVD burner
    500W PSU
I want to know whether this is a defect of my motherboard. Any advices would be appreciated.
    Thanks.mate.

Can understand the question "what CPU core do you have"?
    I have the AM2 dual core 4600+ CPU,Windsor core, 89W watt.
yep that i have asked, well there is nothing to worry about voltage applied manually matched with your default CPU vcore.

  • OC Genie/Motherboard Problem

    Hi guys,
I think my mobo has problem. When i push the OC Genie button my system has to try many times to boot in windows - 2, 3 or even 4 in row. New beta bios made the problem worse (system kept trying and trying to boot) so i went back to bios 1.2. I run memtest with success stress-tested my cpu while in default checked the connections and tried also without the bios battery but the problem remains.
I have the same problem sporadicly when i try to manually overclock my cpu and use the xmp at the same time.
Im thinking that its the mobo that fails :(
    Any ideas?
Edit: This happens even when i try to restart the system or when i boot in bios to make a small change.

What you have shown there is not uncommon when the BIOS attempts a couple of times to set the memory spd and timings, especially when the memory's spd profile is not JEDEC standard.
I have a board from a different manufacturer that also exhibits 2 or 3 restarts when overclocking the mem. It only does it the first time though. No subsequent settings changed, and all subsequent boots are normal.
I have also had motherboards from other brands but when i had a stable "normal" overclocked system i didn't have that kind of problem during the restart process. Besides, if that was happening during a cold boot i knew that i would have to adjust bios settings. Now my motherboard has the ocgenie feature but it doesn't work as it should  :(
Its either the board or some kind of board-memory incompatibility
Here is a cpuz+ CC screenie
Im a bit confused with all these timings and i dont know which ones i should change manually...:S
