GT70 0NC GPU constantly crashing

Hi,
I'm completely desperate here for help. I bought the MSI GT70 0NC around late 2012, everything was working perfectly until recently this year.
My GPU was starting to crash with a driver failure message. My computer wouldn't lock up, just the game I was playing (applies to all games using my GPU) except it would keep crashing and recovering, so I have to force shutdown.
So I opened up the laptop and cleaned out all the dust, put in some new thermal paste on the heatsink and all that jazz.
Then later on it would crash again and again, until it would basically just crash every 2-3 minutes upon use.
I've had to manually force all applications to use the Intel chipset instead of the NVIDIA gpu because of this, and this obviously limits what I can play.
I've tried numerous things:
- Install newest driver (352.86) with clean install (deleted all NVIDIA folders and reg keys and all that jazz)
- Dual booted into another drive with a clean OS install and driver install. (the new drive uses Windows 7 64-bit whereas my old drive uses 8.1 64-bit)
- Increased PCI latency in BIOS from 32 to 192 clocks. (this just made it so crashes would make the game freeze, and I'd get the driver fail message 20-30 seconds later)
- Installed the driver that came with the laptop in 2012 and tried with that. Same thing.
I inspected the actual card as well when I opened it, and there doesn't seem to be any physical damage at all.
The only thing I didn't do is update my BIOS (so the BIOS is still the one from 2012). I'm not sure this would even help since it crashes even with the driver it came with in 2012.
What can I do? Is this just defective? I don't want to ship my laptop away for 3 weeks and chuck down 400$ to repair (aka replace) the gpu, I'd rather invest in a new desktop rig I can build myself.
Thanks

Looks like the graphic card is aging now and make the graphic driver jump into the exceptions or hangings. If you can borrow the same graphic card, maybe you can test whether this problem is from hardware itself or the software problem.

  • MSI Gt70-0NC GPU Dead??

    HI Guys,
I bought a MSI GT70-0NC last week and reinstalled Windows 7 immediately.
I got a GTX 675M 2GB Graphics Card in it and i cant start any Game with it. Neither i can install any drivers.
The first Problem is, that the Graphics Card puts out an error 43 in System-Manager.
Then there´s no Bios Information of the  GPU Clock in GPU-Z.
I downloaded the latest VGA-Bios for MSI-Cards on Techpowerup.com and flashed it with nvflash:
and still got the same Problems.
I tried the Inf Modding for the Actual Graphics driver and the original Driver on the MSI-Homepage.
        Still no Luck
Is there any other MSi Rom i need???
Is it even possible to get the Graphics card to work?
Pls guys, can u help me??? i´m running my Notebook with integrated Graphics at the Moment

i can get a GTX260m very cheap from a friend. Is there any possibillity to get this card working in the GT70??
The next best card for your laptop is going to be the 680m, it is quite a bit more powerful than the 675m and would actually be a pretty decent upgrade (the 675m wasn't that great to begin with).  You should be able to get a 680m working from ebay, try and buy an MSI one, a Dell/Alienware one can still work but it you're more likely to run into problems, you'd also have to flash the MSI vbios.
    Good luck

  • GT70-0NC lot's of problems...

I got this extremly frustrating problem I've been trying to fix since I bought my GT70-0NC... (Windows 7 64bit)
    The GPU is a GTX670M.
I can't play any video files without lag, and I can't get games to work properly!
The only game I can play is Diablo 3.
    Games that crash at startup:
    Battlefield 3
    Bad Company 2
    Dishonored
    Borderlands 2
    These are purchased copies...
I have tried every fix I can think of.
I turned off Eco. I set battery settings to max performance.
I set power profile in nVidia control panel to max performance.
I set nVidia control panel to use nVidia GPU with the mentioned games.
I updated all the drivers. I tried different versions of the drivers, from Intel/nVidia and from MSi.
I installed a SSD disc and did a fresh OS install.
    Installed drivers, same problem.
The power button is white in Windows, and goes orange when I start games. I also confirmed that the nVidia GPU is working with different monitor programs.
And Diablo 3 runs perfectly! I just don't get it...
I'm thinking about RMA, but perhaps there is a solution?
Is this a known issue with the 0NC model?
The only thing I didn't do yet is flash BIOS, should I try this?

    Run furmark:
leave it for some time, see if it will crashes.
you can also test it with 3dmark11,3dmark vantage,
    unigine heaven 3.0:
Hello and thanks for the reply!
I ran 3dmark vantage, and it gives me around 12000 score wich is good for my system according to the benchmark result page.
The nVidia GPU seems to be running healthy when playing Diablo 3, FPS is good at higher settings.
    Temperatures are also OK.
What's funny is that I thought this problem was related to BF3 only... but when I installed the other mentioned games I get the exact same problem. Bad Company 2 starts up and sometimes the window goes white, sometimes black and sometimes I can see the first frames of the intro video or "Loading" wich is before the first intro video. Then it freezes and I have to kill the process to be able to quit. This leads to "program is not responding" and then it exists.
Don't know if it's related to the same thing, but videos lag MASSIVLY in both VLC, MPC-HC and other players. Doesent matter if it's MP4, MKV or xvid... HD, non-HD... they all lag like crazy. Like 5 second stutters.
I sent the laptop for repairs today after talking to MSi Sweden. They figured that after all the fixes I've tried there must be something wrong with the hardware... but I'm afraid the laptop might come back and still have this isssue. Swedish repair centers are not very thorough sometimes...

  • MSI GT70 0NC 494 - Samsung 840 Evo Problem

I recently brought a Samsung 840 Evo 500GB to replace the WD Black HDD on my MSI GT70-0NC-494 laptop. OS is Windows 8. Im going type out pretty much how I ended up to where I am right now in hopes that maybe someone could catch where I went wrong.
    So here's the story:
The cloning process went smoothly and I was able to load the OS from the SSD without any problems. Then I immediately updated the firmware and I set the optimizations using the Magician software.
I ran CrystalDiskMark and had speeds around ~300MB for both read and writes on the sequential test. Thought that my speeds were kind of slow when comparing them to the others I've seen. AHCI is on. I know my laptop has a SATA 2 and SATA 3 slot but I did plug the SSD in the SATA 3. SATA 3 connection is confirmed through Intel RST application and Samsung Magician. The speed is just not around the ballpark of what everyone is getting.
Ok, let's see the speeds with Rapid Mode so I turned on Rapid Mode and restarted. Then I get a "Start PXE over IPv6/4" message which then leads to the BIOS screen. Turn off laptop, turn it on, and get the same message. Turn off laptop again, turn it on, and the OS loads this time.
I thought that was weird but whatever I got to the OS, I thought. Open up Task Manager to see how Rapid Mode affects my RAM capacity since my regular usage already puts me ~1.5GB below max. 1.9GB shows up on RAM. Thought I'd be starting closer to 3GB. Then again, Im not entirely sure on how Rapid Mode works so whatever. Run the benchmark test through Magician software.
(This pic was from after I reinstalled Win 8 but the performance drop was similar)
Ok, , the read speeds is now garbage. Did the test on CrystalDiskMark and it shows similar results. It was late at night and Im feeling tired so I keep my laptop idle overnight to see if that would help. Nope, read speeds are still garbage. Surprisingly enough, CrystalDiskMark would show write speeds for sequential hitting ~1000MB/s so it seems that the write process is somewhat fine. The read process seems like it's broken.
So I turn off Rapid Mode and see if that fixes my read speeds. Restart. Get BSOD on startup. Turned laptop on and off multiple times to see if anything works but no avail. Thankfully I created a set of recovery disks 2 days ago so I immediately run that now. I was planning to restore the OS to factory install anyways so its fine.
OS is restored. At this point Im scared of installing the Samsung Magician software so I make a restore point. This time I want to see what happens if I install the software and run Rapid Mode through Win 8.1.
Seems like I can't just upgrade to 8.1 without installing a bunch of updates first so I do that. I got impatient so I went ahead and installed Magician and did the optimizations. CrystalDiskMark showed ~300MB/s for read and ~400MB/s for write. Ran the Magician benchmark and it produced the light blue bars on the screenshot above.
Let's try Rapid Mode now. Turn Rapid Mode on, restart, and I am again greeted with the "Start PXE over IPv6/4" message before hitting the BIOS. Now Im telling myself that I messed up again. Turned off the laptop and turned it on. OS is back. Awesome, only 1 try.
Did benchmarks on Magician which again showed that my read speeds were garbage (dark blue bars). I'm not even going to touch Rapid Mode for fear of having to reinstall the OS again. So now Im trying to upgrade to Win 8.1 and see if that fixes something.
Download 8.1, restart, I get some BSOD message with the code "0xC1900101 - 0X20017", restart through BIOS, and I get an error saying that 8.1 failed and Im being reverted to 8. Desktop loads up, I check Magician and my 840 Evo doesnt even appear on the drop down list. The software even says Rapid Mode is disabled even though I can see the Rapid Mode service through task manager.
Now Im just running tests, and restarting the laptop to install additional Windows updates. Upgrade to Windows 8.1 actually went through this time. After the update, Magician now says that Rapid Mode is on and my SSD again appears to be selectable. Read speeds seems to have gotten a *tiny bit* better but it is still extremely low.
Decided to say screw it, disabled Rapid Mode, restarted, again with the "Start PXE over IPv6/4". Turn off laptop, turn on, surprisingly no BSOD saying my system is forever broken. Now Im trying to see if I could salvage the performance back through messing with the settings so I followed most of the advice on another website.
Now it seems that the write speed is consistently good, but again the read speeds are absolutely horrid. I used AS-SSD for the benchmark instead of CrystalDiskMark this time.
And that is where I am right now. I am very sorry that the post is ridiculously long. I've been constantly looking around the internets to see if anyone has the same problem as me and I couldnt find a solution. I wanted to somewhat be detailed with my process so I can know whether this problem is the software or the MSI hardware. Or if the problem is with my specific SSD and that I'd have to RMA it.

How did you go about installing Windows?
It looks like the first time you used some software that ended up cloning it from the HDD to the SSD. That's a no-no in general, and I'd never trust it to work well.
Then the next time, you say you restored it. But you don't say if that was from the SSD/HDD or from recovery media that you had generated.
I'll be perfectly honest, I'd only trust installing from Recovery media when it comes to installing a new drive.
I'd say to do that. Install from Recovery media and see if that fixes the problem.
I will also say that a number of users have had issues with the Samsung 840 drives. Most of them were using the Samsung 840 Pro drives, not the EVO's, but just something to keep in mind. They were only able to get them to operate at SATA2 speeds.

  • Windows 7 all browsers constantly crashing and SSD disk has way to much used space than all the folders are combined in size.

I recently built a computer and was installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on it. I have a few problems going on. First of all all my browser are constantly crashing (including IE, Firefox and Google Chrome) on random reasons. I checked the conflicts on chrome
and there were none conflicting with it. I did the /sparrow thing to clear and fix corruption but that did not work. I've tried making a new user file in Chrome, same results. Another problem I've been having is that my SSD disk that I have Windows installed
on shows way to much space being used in My Computer. I checked all the file sizes within it and it is a maximum of 40GB all put togather but My Computer says only 28GB is free of 111GB SSD drive.
Here are the specs to my computer:
    AMD FX 8350 CPU
    Mushkin 16GB 1866hz RAM
    Gigabyte Radeon R9 270x 4GB VRAM GPU
    Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 motherboard
    600W Amrageddon PSU
    120GB Mushkin Chronos Deluxe SSD
    2TB SSHD Seagate
Anyone know what I can do?
P.S Drive cleanup freed only 500MB and the Recycle Bin is empty
P.P.S I moved the Program files from the SSD to the SSHD (If that matters) Also the download folder.

    HH
1-You can check what is using the space with a free 3rd party tool called Treesize from Jam software
2-I believe you have a hardware issue and here is why.
    Event viewer logs show
1-The platform firmware has corrupted memory (see snip)
2-The Browser are crashing because of something called a memory exception (Cx05) see snip
I would check for a BIOS update, configure your system to generate a user mode DMP file and upload it when they crash.  Beyond that there are only a few events in EV (~300).  We can alwasy use more.
You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first.
Copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file, then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file  should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\
    00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
After the app crashes, can you then upload the  dmp file via Windows Live Onedrive or other file sharing site.
The following link has information on using Windows Live Onedrive:

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Constantly Crashing

I am having the worst time using Premiere Pro CS6.  The program is constantly crashing, saying it has encountered a serious error and has to close.  This is happening during the most basic operations like scrubbing the timeline or pressing play.  I am using footage strait from my Canon 7D (h.264) with no effects or filters.  I have all the latest updates to the software and my computer.  No other programs are open during these errors.  I'm using a 2011 MacBook Pro i7 8GB RAM with AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB and OSX 10.7.4.
I wanted this to be an alternative to FCP 7, but so far it is not working out.
    Any ideas?

Happening to me too. Constant "serious error" crashes, usually when I'm doing hardly anything at all. One project was working with just a couple images and it was particuarly awful. Like you, H264 footage are a common thread.
    I'm a Mac Pro 3,1 2x2.8GHz Quad-Core, 10.7.3 (will try updating), 8GB RAM, GTX285, 6.0.1 and CUDA 4.2.7. GPU Driver Version says 7.18.11 270.05.20f02.
As it stands I can't get anything done. My experience w/ CS6 so far has been to finish one project (2 tracks of DV, one of H264) that was originally started in CS5, and I don't really remember having any problems. Software worked much better than CS5 actually. Tried another one from scratch, same setup, but I encountered the H264 media pending bug that's been reported elsewhere and had to give up, go back to CS5. Project I mentioned above, I could barely do anything w/o the program crashing. This fourth project, another 2 DV/1 H264, I haven't encountered any problems playing back the footage yet, but this is when the software because very unstable.
My console is FULL of "invalid drawable" errors

  • Warp Stabilizer Constantly Crashing Premiere Pro CC 2014

I have never had an issue applying warp stabilizer to clips, now it constantly crashes my system during the analyze phase. Does not seem to be an issue with any other effects. Have the most current version of premiere CC 2014. Running Windows 8.1 Plenty of memory, etc. Has never been an issue, now it happens every time! Help!!

I am having similar issue - without the crashing. Any clips I use warp stabilizer on do not retain their render after I close the project.
What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).   v8.0.1 (21) build  2014.0.1 release
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.) Cloud says i'm up to date
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".  Windows 8.1
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".    mp4 from a gopro
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? no error
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
Has this ever worked before? no
What other software are you running? Chrome
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? No
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).  Dell latitude e7440 8gb ram, ssd
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration? i dont think so
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?  clips do not stay rendered in timeline after saving/close a project and reopen

  • Speedgrade constantly crashing when switching to Looks view !

Speedgrade constantly crashing when trying to work with .mov files from Canon 5D mk2. The crash happens when I switch to looks view !!! I haven't been able to try anything on Speedgrade yet. My Machine is Intel [email protected], 32GB Ram, Quadro 600.

I have a similar issue.  I have tried both footage from the Canon xh-a1 (after it has been converted to quicktime) as well as footage from the Canon 5D Mark 2.   I can color grade the footage, add masks etc, but as soon as I try to render out the footage the program crashes.  I can watch the file being created in the folder that I select.  The render gets to 100% completed and then the file disapears and Speedgrade crashes.  Very frustrating.

    Yes I understand that  .
I tried to explain  , I'm not good at dealing with BIOS issues . I tried once ( 12-14 months ago ).
So can you help a rookie guy ( thats me  ) to fix that problem
Yes, but you need to say if you want me to prepare such modded and unlocked BIOS for you
Note that this will be not official and donation is required: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=134259.0
Once received i can start working over it and send back to you when its done 2-3 hours later
And can guide you what and how to do to this issue once you running the modded bios

Does someone got a full package of the drivers for GT70-0NC Win7 64bit because when i can't download from MSI website cuz downloads keep crashing...

How else should someone give you all drivers online?

  • MSI GT70 0NC Throttling

    Hello,
I originally posted in the thread linked below but I though I'd post here as well. The original thread contains suggestions from other users as well as further information on what I've tried.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183574.0
    I have an MSI GT70 0NC.
While gaming, my FPS will drop, for example, from 60 to 30 FPS (when turning a game character around to view something else for example) or overall FPS seems low when comparing my specs to a games system requirements.
My laptop is also always plugged in, Turbo Boost is on and the fan button is on forcing the laptop fan to run at full blast while gaming.
    Temperatures also seem fine.
I'm not sure if this is graphics card related or CPU related but it's pointing to GPU since one user observed that my card doesn't seem to be running up to it's specs.
    I've tried the following:
-Reformatting and re-installing Windows and drivers
    -Scanning for viruses
-Ensure up to date graphics drivers
-Setting Power Options to High Performance in Windows
-Setting my Nvidia graphics card as the default card used by my computer/specific games in the Nvidia Control Panel
-Set Prefer maximum performance under Power management mode in the Nvidia Control Panel
    -Flashing BIOS with different versions
Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

I have disabled both V-Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel and in-game and the issue persists.
Sorry for not making myself clear, I'm just saying that the 60/30 FPS is caused by the V-Sync.
According to the Afterburner log files, there is no throttling on your GT70 0NC, so I'm not sure what's the issue you have now.

overall FPS seems low when comparing my specs to a games system requirements.
If you're talking about the FPS score, I'd suggest to download the 3DMark 11 and run the P-score. The result will show you if there is a problem of the graphics or not.
It would be necessary to know the graphics driver version you're using.
    :cool:Cheers!

  • GT70 0NC SSD not working

    Hi guys,
Just got a brand new Intel 520 240GB SSD and i have some problems. The SSD is installed on Port 1. My version have both ports 1 and 4 with SATA connectors. Searching on forums i saw that Port 1 is SATA 3 and 4 SATA 2.
    1. Using my original HDD as boot and the SSD as secondary ... the SSD is not working with SATA 3 speed. I used lpm-fix and same thing ... it`s using SATA 2 speed. BIOS is updated and also AHCI selected.
    2. Using the SSD as boot and other HDD disconnected ... i can`t install windows 7 64bit. Win setup starts, SSD listed when asked to select a disk to install. Setup start .... first setup restart begins .... after MSI logo the setup does not continue. What happens is Win Setup is running again from the beginning again and again ... this happens at first setup restart during Win setup. What i did was to remove the Win setup disk from the DVD only to see a new problem. After MSI logo the screen remains Black. Nothing happens ...  no windows, no windows logo, no windows setup .... nothing.
What can i do to enable SATA 3 and also what can i do to make the SSD continue with Win 7 installation after restart and not starting from the beginning ?

What exact model of laptop do you have? Did it comes with Windows 7 pre-installed or Windows 8?
I assume it was with Windows 7 pre-installed.
I can't easily find the thread, but I assume you are installing the hard drive in the rear left hard drive bay when it is upside down and you're looking at it.
I had some free time today and managed to see what is happening. First let me answer your questions:
    1. MSI GT70 0NC-066.
    2. Windows 7 pre-installed.
    3. I`m trying to install windows with the SSD placed in PORT 1 (rear left next to GPU).
I installed the SSD in my other port .. PORT 4 SATA 2. Everything is normal ... no problem at all, no errors. Windows installed drivers everything ...
From what i can see the problem is the port. Compatibility issues or the adapter have problems. When the SSD is in PORT 1 SATA 3 i get a lot of errors. For example many times the laptop does not see the SSD. When the laptop see the SDD the windows is not booting. All i get is Starting Windows (no logo) or a Black Screen.
Picture with Starting Windows (it stays like this for 1 min then auto reboot) :
Picture from BIOS when the laptop managed to see the SSD in PORT 1 SATA 3:
    Picture with my laptop opened:
So the SSD works perfect with 0 problems in PORT 4 SATA 2. My problem starts when the SSD is in port 1 SATA 3.
Should i buy a new adapter for PORT 1 SATA 3 ? Or this could be a problem from motherboard ?

  • GT70 0NC - Unable to flash non-Windows 8 BIOS

    Hello,
I recently purchased a GT70 0NC notebook and have been unsuccessful at updating the BIOS. The notebook came pre-installed with Windows 8, but I reformatted with Windows 7 x64.
I was able to flash in the EC from the factory 1762EMS1 v5.03 to 1762EMS1.414 using the USB flashing tool detailed in the EC flashing instructions from the MSI download site, but since the "normal" MSI BIOS update procedure will not work with Windows 7 64bit, I've been trying to use the "MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool". I'm able to successfully prepare my USB flash drive with the updater and boot into it without a problem. After executing the update procedure, it says that it updated the BIOS successfully, but the BIOS version (E1762IMS.50R) remains unchanged after pulling power and booting into the BIOS setup (I'm trying to flash in E1762IMS.10R). I checked to see if "Boot Sector Protection" was enabled, but I can't find it anywhere in the GT70 factory BIOS. Since that didn't work, I installed a bootable DOS utility (the same one used to update the EC), extracted the BIOS archive in the root of the flash drive and tried executing "flash.bat", but it said something to the effect "error problem getting flash information". I'm lost at this point and would appreciate any help on this matter.
    Thanks!

Oh! I guess I'm confused with the language on the download site when it says win8 vs non-win8 for OS selection. Just so I'm clear for future reference, if a newer BIOS revision becomes available for this notebook, even while running Windows 7, I should upgrade (if absolutely necessary) to the win8 version available on the MSI download site? Is this even possible while running Windows 7? It's just weird to me that they're designating a hardware revision based on pre-installed OS when some users will ultimately downgrade to Windows 7 and not understand this.
My next question, since the Windows 7 1762EMS1.414 EC flash fixed my non-functioning hot keys, should I re-flash to the Windows 8 EC (currently 1762EMS1504) and will this break hot key functionality again? At this point, I'm concerned about the E1762IMS.50R BIOS not playing nice with the 1762EMS1.414 EC.
    Thanks!
You just got your answer, just install the right BIOS + EC (for your OS) and your problems are solved. If you want to install windows 7 on your laptop, make sure you install BIOS and EC for non-win8 from msi download section (for your laptop model), and check before if you have RAID or non-RAID/with Backlight Keyboard or non-Backlight Keyboard (because you will find also these options in the download section)
