    Hi Guys
for the MSI Neo2 865PE users,i want to know, what is your guys cpu temperature while your computer is idle and stressed/underload.
    my rig:
    MSI Neo2-S (bios ver.1.0) P4 2.4C @stock speed with stock heatsink fan
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (not oc'ed)
80 GB WD and 60 GB Seagate HDD
Antec 1080 AMG with 430Watt psu
    4 fan running = 2 intake 2 blow out
    Sound Blaster Audigy
    1x512 MB Ram Kingston
    and,
i'm using pcalert4, and it shows:
    CPU idle=45 Celcius
    CPU when playing games=60 Celcius
    System Temperature = 29-32 Celcius
please post yours, please... because, i think it is too hot for p4 to have that kind of temperature.
    thank guys!!!

I am wondering how accurate the sensors are on these boards.
I don't think MSI (nor any other manufacturer) has a step to calibrate the temperature sensors, so the answer is - not much
They are just relative temp readings, and probably vary from board to board.
    Quote
system temp. Board readings are from 39c to 43c but the air temp coming out the back 120mm fan is 31c to 33c.
Air cooling is achieved by transferring heat from hotter components to the cooler air. This will raise the temperature of the exhaust, but never higher than your hottest component. It actually depends where the sensor is located. If you put a card on the PCI slot above the Winbond chip, you would probably observe higher SYS temperatures.

  • E65 Microphone volume. Please post your opinion.

I have bought an E65, but I have a question.
When I call every peoples say me they listen me very low, (then my old phone 6630), I have try with three models of headset with cable, and without headset.
I have try to record my voice and It's true! The microphone volume it's very low then the old 6630!
This is normal? Is a problem or my phone or what? Exist the possibility to boost microphone?
    Please post your opinion.

    Hi,
first thing I noticed when i started making calls with my e65, a little scale is shown on the top left of the display for the conversation volume and you can adjust it with the cursor keys (left/right) during phone calls. The factory setting was in the middle of the scale and sounded pretty low, so I cranked it up immediately to top volume, after which I've always heard and been heard loud and clear. I don't know whether you already noticed that, because this setting appears only DURING active phone calls, so you might wanna give it a try...

  • K8n neo2-f nf3 ultra board - onboard nic problem? Please post your experiences

I just ordered the k8n neo2-f nf3 ultra board, with a venice 3500+ chip, from newegg.  I saw various posts on the mobo, however, from people who said the onboard nic doesn't work right out of the box, that they had to go in and manually enter the mac address in Windows that they retrieved from a sticker on the parallel port.
I can deal with a problem like that easily, but I find it hard to believe MSI would ship such a defective board design as that.  Is this really the commonplace experience with this board?  Please post your experience with this board if you've used it or had experience with it

Okay I typed my address under the "network addapters" and I still do not have any internet access.  I even tried to reboot...and nothing.  My computer knows when I have a cable hooked up to the port.  It will tell me "network cable connected" or "network cable unplugged."  I hooked up my netgear network card and I was able to get online.
Should I be messing with the "authentication" tab and/or the IEEE 802.1x setting?
My windows 2k computer has a broadcast "node type" while me K*N Neo2 board does not have a line for node type (under ipconfig).  Also my XP computer does not have a line that will tell me the values for: DHCP Server and DNS Servers.  It also has a no value for the default gateway line.  It DOES have a value for the "Connection Specific DNS Suffix".  It is for comcast.
I hope all this is not too confusing.  I was trying to list all the questionable settings.  What should I try next?
    Thanks!
Well, if you're wondering about the 'dhcp server', 'dns servers', 'default gateway', etc., that is all in the 'Network Connections' folder which can be reached from the Control Panel.  To get to those settings, you right-click on the 'local area connection' that corresponds to the onboard lan, and click 'properties'.  Then, select 'network protocol(tcp/ip)' in the list of networking components and click the 'properties' button.  That will bring up the set of tabs where you can set those properties (although there is no 'dhcp server' address setting, just the option to either specify an address or use dhcp to automatically assign an address).
I get the impression, though, that you're saying if you slap in a pci network card, it connects right away, so I doubt any of those settings are needed (unless you left out the part about going into the tcp/ip settings for the pci nic and specifying an address, etc., which I doubt you did).  Have you considered contacting msi tech support on the problem?  If it's a new board, I'm sure you're entitled to free tech support.  It seems like, with all of the chatter on these boards over this issue, they should be well aware of it and be familiar with the ways to 'fix' it.

  • Benchmark song - please post your observations

I am thinking of going all software. Selling most of my hardware synths. I don't know which computer to go for but I would like to be able to make all types of music and video work. Can you go thru the post below (I copied from the archived post) and post your observations? Macbook pros (C2D) are nice but can they handle orchestral work? Macpros are fast but difficult to carry around, of course. How well do the EWQLSO vsts and such play on the newest macs? How much is the delay loading samples? Hardware synths usually have no delay loading patches.
Thanks to all of you who gave results on the first benchmark song. This one is very similar, instead of using Space Designer it uses Sculpture. Each track has 15 notes on each, so for polyphony multiply tracks by 15.
    http://noisefloor.com/logic/SculptureBenchmark.lso.zip
Mute tracks until you are able to play the session back consistently.
    Please list:
    Your machine and speed
    Ram
    OS version
    Logic version
    sound card
    buffer setting
    My results: Quad 2.5, 4.5 gigs ram, 10.4.5, Logic 7.1.1, MOTU 828mk2, buffer 512
39 tracks, polyphony 585, CPU use in Activity monitor maxed about 340%.

If your looking to do orchestral mockups using samples, running a sculpture/space designer based benchmark test will not give you the answers you seek. Sculpture & space designer are both CPU based effects/instruments, where orchestral mockups are RAM based (for the most part). Of course CPU is needed to run your players (Kontakt, play, VSL VI, etc) as well as reverbs (convolution reverbs use a lot of CPU) but your actual orchestra will be streaming from RAM & Hard Disk.
Thus macpro desktops are currently the best way to go, as you have more RAM access & multiple internal HD's. Thats not to say you cant get comparable results using a macbook pro, but seeing as how all my studio equipment is in my studio, desktop works great for me.
I wonder if its possible to do a similar benchmark test using Logic's EXS & factory samples instead of sculpture? Of course the factory patches are much smaller than the massive instruments found in VSL/EastWest, but I'm sure someone could put one together. I'd be interested to see the results.

  • Intel vs G4/G5 - please post your results

I'm currently running ARD 3.0 on my G5 as I was unable to get it to run reliably with my Intel MBP.
Has anyone had luck with ARD 3 on your Intel Mac?
    If so, please post here.
I've stopped trying to make this work as I figured it just needs some updating on Apple's side, but I'd love to know if other Intel users are having better luck?
    Thanks.
    Scott

    I sure haven't.
It works fine on my internal network, but I mainly use it to remote support Windows client's that I have. I have them all loaded up with TightVNC, which, for the most part, had been working fine, until I upgrade my PowerBook to my MBP. Since then, I cannot connect to any remote client, aside from my internal network. Add thing is, I have changed no settings, Apple Remote Desktop came over intact from Migration Asst., but it will not connect to them. Funny enough, my PowerMac still connects with no problems whatsoever.
I am puzzled as to what the issue could be. The only thing I can think is, something is not working between the MacBook Pro and TightVNC, but alas, no one ever seems to suggest on here a really solid Windows VNC for use with Apple Remote Desktop and furthermore, Apple does not seem too interested in creating one themselves, which is very frustrating.

  • Please post your S10 CPU temps...

On the 'balance' power setting, my CPU tends to run right at 60*C, give or take a couple degrees under normal usage.  I have seen a couple spikes up to 65*C.
On a side note, for what its worth..this is also while the notebook is on my lap.  The intake vents are easily covered this way.  I do note cooler temps in the 50's when the S10 is sitting on my coffee table.
I am using HWMonitor, which is a free download:

  • Fun with fans and heat - post your temps

Well, after using the command to double-load my MBP, and after turning off all the loud machines in my bedroom, I finally got my MBP's fans to really get going. They make a very faint noise, but they were belching out firy air, as my MBP. My macbook pro runs at a somewhat reasonable 65-72C (156F average or so) when I run reasonable applications like Safari, iTunes, Adium, and Preview at once, loading the cores less than 10% each. The bottom is quite hot in the obvious places but the keyboard and palmrest are cool. The fans are not spinning in any way that I can detect at this temperature. I use Hardware Monitor 3.6 to test my CPU core's heat.
When other people load their cores, do they get super high heat? I get up to 90-100C even, and the fans get spinning. However the CPU core temp drops like lightning down to 70 seconds after I close the terminal windows and end the suffering. I don't know how normal this is, what other people's core fully loaded temperatures are, but I would like to.
Test core temps with this: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24043
You may need to run http://macbricol.free.fr/coreduotemp/ this software first.
Then, load your cores by opening 2 instances of the terminal and running this line of code: yes> /dev/null
This all isn't fair. I tried to make my G4 12" get hot with this terminal command, and the hottest I got was 136F, while my Macbook Grill is running at over 200F.

why have ya CPU's running with nothing with this yes> /dev/null when ya could be running seti@home or this http://distributed.net running something usefull that uses all ya avalible CPU cycles... and still at the same time testing the CPU temps...

  • Post your temps with Dual Prime running

I'm interested to see comparative results based on each cooling setup and percentage overclock.
    If you could you the format below;
    Motherboard:        K8N Diamond SLi
    CPU:                    Opteron 170 (2.0GHz)
    Clocked:               2.4GHz
    Dual Prime Temp:  38C
    Ambient Temp:     18C
Cooling Method:    Water 120 rad XSPC

Probably should throw in CPU voltage too.  Voltage is exponential increase in heat generation.
    Motherboard:        K8N Platnium SLi
    CPU:                   Opteron 165 (1.8GHz)
    Clocked:               3.0GHz at 1.58 volts
    Dual Prime Temp:  38C
Ambient Temp:     22C by thermocouple in front of radiator
    Cooling Method:    Water home brew.

  • Linux vs. linux-ck power usage - laptop users please post your results

Krum reported are rather significant increase in power consumption when using the linux-ck kernel vs. the linux (stock ARCH) kernel.

I will investigate further another time...
I began to wonder just how universal this was so I tested on my own laptop (Intel T9400 @ 2.53 GHz, NVidia FX, 2x2 GB, SSD and 17" screen) booted into three different kernels, ARCH, ck-generic, and ck-core2 with the latter two downloaded from my unofficial repo.  I took two readings per kernel.  The first was measured with powertop on battery after letting it settle for a good 3 min of idle.  The second was with the battery removed and on AC power measured with a Kill-A-Watt.  My results indicate no significant differences.
    linux-3.0.3-1
    Powertop: 37.5
    Kitt-A-Watt: 41

Can you just have a keyword metatag without a description metagtag?
I think I lost rank on Craigs Prints since I added the meta tag description...

While there are exceptions to the norm, firmware updates are always advisable. They are generally a step forward from known bugs that the community has previously identified, and they sometimes offer performance increases.
HOWEVER, some firmware changes have been known to mess things up for some people. The possible "broken" functionality with a newer firmware update will usually occur with settings different than default or with 3rd party components.
Regarding your other question: pushing the reset button for 30 seconds will not cause any problems when resettings your router to factory settings; however, I do not know the actual time required. As you say, it might be less.
