GT70: changing GTX to quadro

So I wish to buy this 1000$ GT70 off kijiji, I am a cad designer and machinist. use gibbscam alot.
The WT70 seems expensive for the same thing as a gt70.
Would it be possible to change the graphics card from the mxm default gtx to an mxm quadro k2100m
Now I know its not recommended and warranty will be void, I dont wanna here some theories or whatever, I know electrical procedures, I got my static arm band. Buuilt desktops before.
I wanna know, can it be done, will the bios change work?
I was gonna buy an whitebook like this but there are not available. This comes out cheaper than a 1500$ whitebook with no warranty , dont care about warranty. I want a solid base that I will repair myself.
and MSI always has best quality.

In theory you should be able to upgrade GTX to Quadro but you might need to confirm if the GTX thermal module can fit in with the Quadro card.

  • GeForce GTX vs Quadro: the comparsion

I would like to look for a right video card for CS5.5 or new CS6 video editing only.  I looked at the requirement for my future new PC, but I need your help for providing me more information on the comparsion between GeForce GTX and Quadro.
What does GTX have that Quadro does not have?
What does Quadro have that GTX does not have?
I would like for you to give me a chart on the difference between them like an outline comparsion or column comparsion.
Also, what is the maximun of RAM memory for video editing?
    Thank you

    GTX$$$ & Quadro$$$$$$$$$$
If you are looking for improvising your performance first make your self next´s question´s:
What processor do I have: AMD or intel? dual, Quad, Exa core...?
How much Ram do you have, HDD CONFIG, Overclocking, Cooling etc...
Get the maximum of your pc before order a $$$$$$$ Video card.
Gtx 580 can perform 80% of the quadro 5000?
...but it always was vice versa...
quadros were always slower "viewpoint performance" but they're "for some reason" certified autodesk hardware... but for example the gtx295 is also certified.
the problem is now that there is a driver opengl performance problem reported by some people using the new 4xx series[ a great performance drop down in dcc apps...]
    The GTX580 has 512 cores, running at 772MHz, 1002MHz (Core/RAM)
    The 5000 has 352 cores, running at 513, 750
You decide. Don't see a reason to buy a Quadro when you cam improving in so many others areas

  • Where are the downloads for GT70 Dominator (GTX 970M)?

    Original post https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=184675.0
I've looked very hard but I just can't seem to find where the downloads are for the GT70 (GTX 970M), also known as GT70-2QD. I've even registered my product but it doesn't change anything.
GT60 (GTX 970M) seems to suffer the same problem.
On the other hand, GT72 (GTX 970M) has the downloads but I'm not sure if I can use them (BIOS, Drivers etc).
Any help would be much appreciated

I'm talking about the new GT60 and GT70 with the GTX 970M..... they just came out lol
i read what you said but there is no drivers appearing for any of the GT60 or GT70 at all it just appear empty box on drivers section :/
since when i search on model you gave the first link i get goes to this
GT70 2QD-2292US DOMINATOR model and when i click on Support it throws me empty box bellow no drivers nothing.
The model it takes me to says it has GTX 970M so yeah still no drivers under support tab at http://ca.msi.com/product/nb/GT70_2QD2292US_Dominator.html#hero-overview

  • GT70 0nc GTX 670MX Driver Crashes, and BAD performance.

I purchased a gt70 ONC 494US and at first I updated all drivers and software on win 8 x64, I tried running multiple games off of steam and none of them were running smoothly, some of them not at all, (borderlands 2, arma II, fallout 3.....) I installed an SSD and a fresh version of win 7 64 ultimate, used only drivers from MSI, and still had crashes and couldn't even run a benchmark.
The only solution I have found to run a select few games, is by uninstalling ALL nvidia software and drivers, using windows default VGA drivers for the 670mx, however, this only works for a few games, and some others won't start because they don't find a capable GPU.
I have read MANY forums, most of them go through the typical, use the nvidia control panel to change the power settings, global settings, and roll back drivers to the originals. NONE of this made any difference.
I have read that there is a firmware beta ec flash? But, even the tech forum from MSI the link didn't go anywhere. I know this is a common problem, and especially with steam games. Yes, the power light turns orange, and i turn on turbo mode, I also turned on the indicator showing the nvidia gpu is being used, but games will not get past the title screen if they start at all, and the nvidia driver crashes.
    Help?

Currently I am trying the new 340.52, before this I had reset to FACTORY image with the original OEM drivers, 306.14 (I believe). For the intel, again I started with the OEM hd 4000 drivers, currently I have the may 2014 drivers, 10.18.10.3621. Before hand, no there was no error, just a frozen game I had to kill with task manager, now I am getting the error that the vram is full. Using GPU-z I see that the dedicated vram isn't even being used. Ideas?

For the game settings GeForce Experience provides, I wouldn't say it's an optimized setting but the settings only for your references.
Since the tested game environment and system configurations might be different, I'd go for my own settings in order to find the best gaming experience.
Like BlueAlexFPS said, the GTX670M has similar performance as GTX765M, it would be ridiculous to have the same performance like GTX780M. If what you said is true, then why they are they putting 780M out on the market?
I'd keep the graphics driver from MSI website, since a windows generic driver could gives you only the basic level graphics performance and not to mention without the Optimus, you wouldn't know if which graphics it's running.

  • URGENT - Dual Xeon or high-end i7 & GTX or Quadro?

    Hello,
I'm planing to build soon a new configuration for AE and i really need answers.
My usage of after effects is very cpu intensive (motion graphics, lots of 3d, light effects, and so on) + using a lot of scripts.
I was wondering... which option will give me the best results in those conditions?
One I7 980x with 24 go of ram
    or
Two Xeon 5520 with 24 go of ram (or maybe 36go for this case)
I can't find a real answer on the web. I was first planning to get the dual xeon. Then I've realized that IF after effects use the cpu as extra amount of core, it won't be so usefull to me (especially regarding the fact that i'm using a lot of object relative expression - meaning failing with MP rendering enabled). Otherwise, IF AE use both cpu in a additive way, it will worth it (I mean, IF I don't need to enable MP Rendering to take benefits of both cpu)
I have also another question regarding the Quadro FX 4800... Since the Quadro CX is discontinued, and since it was an improvement of the FX 4800, does the FX 4800 will perform as well in AE CS5 than the CX was in AE CS4?
I'm not really carring about encoding in H.264... My care is about beeing productive and gain strong reactivity in the viewport, as fast uncompressed renders.
Please do not deviate with HDD importance, or stuff like that... I got all my answers on that. I really need more info on the Dual Cpu vs Single and the Quadro vs a simple GTX card.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Phil

Okay I found a starting of answer...
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79e8 a.html
OpenGL in After Effects can render the following features:
Shadows, except point light shadows (Colored shadows appear gray.)
    Lights (eight maximum)
    Masks
    Alpha channels
    Track mattes
    Intersecting layers
Transformations for 2D and 3D layers
GPU-accelerated effects, including Bevel Alpha, Bilateral Blur, Box Blur, Brightness & Contrast, Channel Blur, Color Balance, Color Balance (HLS), Curves, Directional Blur, Drop Shadow, Fast Blur, Find Edges, Fractal Noise, Gaussian Blur, Hue/Saturation, Invert, Noise, Radial Blur, Ramp, Sharpen, Tint, and Turbulent Noise
All blending modes except Dissolve and Dancing Dissolve
    Layer styles
Metal property settings for 3D layers
Cone feather settings for light layers
    2D motion blur
    Adjustment layers
    Anti-aliasing
    Depth-of-field blur
    Nested compositions
That's still a lot of frequently used things. So it may worth it. I guess that using quadro instead of geforce will improve stability.
And i guess that using High End quadro instead of geforce will provide faster answer....
Anyway, if anybody have experienced the FX4800 into AE and compare it to the video posted on the nvidia website... that would be great....
Because the real question now, is to know if a Quadro could challenge a bi high end cpu computing... if no, or not so much, quadro are definitly not interresting for AE in this case.

  • Where is the main difference between the GTX and Quadro cards?

I want to build a serious system for video editing/composing. I'll be using Pr, Sg, Ae (with Element) and 3ds max (just getting started). I read that the GTX card's specs are a lot higher, but the Quadros are recommended for editing and 3D apps. I was planning on integrating the K5000 and came across the much cheaper GTX Titan and lower cards. I also read through other discussions but am still confused. I won't use a 10-bit monitor. I do not plan on playing games on this computer. Just editing and composing. Most of all I'd like my render times to become a lot faster. And with the new Raw video for the 5D Mark III I will edit a lot of 2.2k raw footage. I want it to play smoothly without fps breakdowns even with effects apllied. Element will do some 3D stuff for me in AE. I'm thinking about getting more advanced in 3ds Max as well. What card would do the better job? I'm really not a computer nerd. I had a friend configure a system for me. This is what he came up with:
    i7 3970x
    32gb 2400mhz
    512 SSD
    WD Red in external raid
    DX79 TO Intel Mainboard
Quadro K5000 (not sure about this one)
What configuration would work best and is expandable in the future?

Since I'm still trying to keep things mostly inexpensive...
Not with very much success, I must say.

The only advantages of the 3970X are the higher standard clock speed, which loses all relevancy if you overclock, and the 15 MB L3 cache versus 12 MB L3, which has very limited value, especially when overclocking.
It is nonsense that 4 GB sticks are faster than 8 GB sticks, assuming the same timings. In both cases the slots are fully populated, so quad channel is fully used. Kingston Hyper X Beast will not work at all in a fully populated configuration, because it is 1.65V memory.
512 GB is a waste of space for OS & programs, 128 GB is more than enough.
Intel has a pretty lousy reputation with regards to overclockability and it misses two SATA 6G ports in comparison to the Asus.
The 770 is way faster than a K5000 for a fraction of the price.
The rest will only be about the storage solution, so read on.
Raid 1 doubles the price of your storage solution and gives no performance gain at all. The only connections you have available are 4 internal SATA 3G ports, one of which is in use for a BDR or DVD burner, which can not be reliably connected to a 6G port. Only three left. Mixing SATA 3G and 6G ports is always a bad idea when using raids.
External devices need a connection and you are quickly running out of SATA connections and then even (e)SATA is too slow for external storage when using raid arrays. Unless you want extremely costly solutions (think € 10K+) there is no sense in going external.
Why even consider a CPU like the i7-3970X and a K5000 card if the rest is so extremely underpowered? That makes no sense at all.
You need a lot of disks, you never have enough, but you need to rethink your raid solution. I give you something else to read: Adobe Community: To RAID or not to RAID, that is the question
With the basic components you chose above or with my alternative list, you have to consider a dedicated raid controller and many disks to make it work as you want.
Currently it looks like you want a Ferrari 599, but only with the gearbox of a Fiat 500. If you want to build a serious system, count on spending around 30 - 35% of the total budget on disks and another 10 - 15% on a dedicated raid controller. Then you will have much, much better performance, and security against disk failures.

  • MSI GT70 2PE - GTX 880M Not boosting

    Hi,
I have a gtx 880m which has never boosted, the nominal clock is 954MHz and 993MHz of boost. Neither games or synthetic tests make the card reach the boost clocks. I have recently changed my vbios to the new version MSI has uploaded, also, overclocking does not work, the card reaches a maximum of 954MHz.
Monitoring using MSI afterburner, newest drivers, temps around 75ºC under load.
I would appreciate any advice if anyone knows what could I do.

Did you update the latest BIOS and EC firmware of your model first?
And suggest you use the NVIDIA graphic driver from MSI (not from NVIDIA) to test again.

  • MSI GT70-OND + GTX 680m or 8970m

    Hi!
    Looping for some serious help...
After some erratic behavior my i7 3rd gen GT70 just stopped working with MSI 680m 4GB. The card shows on occasions in manager, but both - discrete and HD4000 have no installed drivers and wont work unless 680 is plugged out (then intel kicks in without prob). That happened after some automatic driver updates and possibly BIOS update. Tried a ton of these and Bioses, rather randomly, trying to solve the disappearance of my 680m from control panel, but non of them worked. To make the things worse, I've messed with EC firmware editions trying the "beta" t25,21,16,17 - one of them bricked the lappi for good... Had MSI re-flash the bios (couldn't do the blind flash myself) but they say they can't help me with 680 since it is from GT60 originally and it's not supported by GT70 (I switched it from 675 to 680 in the other MSI laptop some 8 months ago - both worked without a problem until the issue). Don't have access to check my 680m in another MSI to check if it's working and is no hardware failure, but have access to 8970m from CLEVO for some decent bucks - was wondering which bios should I install to run it in my GT70 or which bios/EC firmware to flash so my old 680 start working again... This or that... Any idea? Guys? Svet? Sure will make the donation if needed of course!

  • [MSI-GT70 2OD]Gtx 780m & Tes Online & fan problems

    So here we go.
it's a week (since the early teso release) im stuck with this "HUGE" problem.
    this is my configuration:
    -i7 4700mq
    -32gb ram
    -gtx 780m
    -triple ssd raid0
guess this should be enough to run everything at least with an average quality. but it doesnt.
everything but tes goes fine (even furmark) and the gpu barely runs over 60-65° degrees.
with tes is an entire different question, since even with low settings(or the suggested settings from nvidia geforce experience) i get a no-sense fan noise due to the overwork of my gpu.
the result is playing on an airstrip or not at all.
i've read some people got fps problems with the same gpu/pc, i think this is the same, just my gpu works more than intended to fix the issue.

I'm not entirely certain what the problem here is....you haven't really clearly defined what it is. no-sense fan noise? What?
Most likely there's a configuration error and that's the real problem. Or it could be a problem with The Elder Scrolls Online (I assume that's the game you're talking about).
But until it's clearly defined, we can't really do much to help you.

  • GT70 with GTX 675M Video TDR failure

This is my second failure of the 675m.  I purchased my GT70-OND-444 in April 2013.  The first 675m with 2gb failed after 5 months, sent it in for RMA, they put in a newer 675m with 4GB memory.  Ran flawlessly up until last week, kept getting the NVidia kernel error along with the BSOD with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys).   Googled around, seems this is not unusual with the 675m card.
Fortunately it is still under warranty, so I can send it in to repair.  Hopefully MSI won't put another 675m in, or NVidia will fix their drivers so it won't burn out this graphic card if that is what is causing the failure.
And yes, I tried several different graphic drivers, used the DDU cleaner, updated BIOS, but every 3d game locks up after a few seconds upon entering the game environment.  Just wanted to let others know if they are having similar problems with their 675m, there must be something wrong with either the card or the NVidia drivers for this to be happening so frequently.

I honestly think it comes down to a process problem via NVidia. Similar to the older 9XXX mobile series chips that had issues from manufacturing as well. That was a huge debacle that NVidia had to pay their way out of back in the day. I think the 67XM series is similar to that, but I doubt it will ever be proven, as it doesn't seem as widespread.

  • CPU Throttling New GT70 2PC GTX 870

Hello friends. I noticed something odd on my new laptop. I have encountered a few of the issues that others have mentioned with regards to wireless and believe I have mostly resolved that but have since started to notice performance issues that corresponds with events in the windows logs stating that the CPU is getting throttled. This occurs both during non intensive use at sometimes random times other times while it is in heavy use.
I assume its due to overheating which would be rather unfortunate since this is a brand new machine.
According to MSI Live update the bios version is E1763IMS.50T
    The mainboard is MS-1763
I have not updated anything but the drivers.
I am considering updating the EC and BIOS but wanted to confirm there actually are updated versions prior to heading down that path. I am not sure if there may be voltage or other performance updates etc that would help in a newer version of the bios. The naming convention is a bit confusing and when I use the MSI Live update tool is claims there is not a new version of bios available.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

After some testing I have noticed a pattern that directly coincides with the events logged in event viewer that aligns with what seems to be throttling of the CPU and GPU as reported using coretemp and GPUZ.
I have saved one such incident in a PDF which I can post. I tried looking for ways to insert an attachment to the forums and was not able to.
The event log error is "The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced state for 28 seconds since the last report."
I have correlated the time of these events with the temps for processor core 2 hitting 71 and reducing core speed (below 2300) and power for all cores (19). I have also been able to correlate with the GPU reducing clock speed from 966 to 270,and gpu memory from 1248 to 162 with temps at around 70.
So it seems that while the temps are really not that bad there is still some kind of throttling taking place within the BIOS that is causing lags while running applications. This pattern above is recurring 2-3 minutes apart.
If I can figure out how to post a file I can post the PDF I created.
    Thanks for any additional feedback.

    Hey all,
I recently changes from a Quadro 4000 1gb card to a GTX 780ti 3gb card and am noticing a drop in performance.
Playback is slower and a lot more choppy.
    Rendering is about 50% slower.
Is this normal? Shouldn't I be getting a much better performance?
I've checked everything I can think of. Premiere is reading this GPU and using it.
This happens in CS6 and CC.

The top one is with MB on and the bottom one is with it off. It rendered in under 5 minutes without the plugin on. With the plugin on it was sitting at around 36 minutes remaining and was climbing up instead of down.
The CPU seems to be working a lot hard without the grades on? Strange.
