GT72 2QE Dominator Pro powering down on boot

Hi, I'm having a problem with my new laptop. The scenarios are 2:
When using Intel VGA - Laptop will turn off on first boot but will load on 2nd attempt.
When using Nvidia 980M GTX - Following the switch from Windows to the dedicated VGA, the OS boots ok but once the system is powered off it will never boot again and laptop goes off.
I'm using the latest Nvidia and Intel drivers. This is getting frustrating. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply. I had already installed the latest version of BIOS i.e. E1781MS.10F with a fresh Windows 8.1 x64 but none solved the issue. I had a sleepless night to figure out what is wrong with this machine since I couldn't digest the fact that a 2400EUROS computer is faulty from factory. I bought this laptop from Poland last week and it was totally sealed in a giant package so surely I had to figure out what is wrong and I think I did. Just in case someone has my same experience please do the following:
 1) Re-Update BIOS with the latest version 10F.
 2) Re-Install Windows and install the WIFI and LAN driver from the MSI CD
 3) Perform only Important updates no optional (for now)
 3) DO NOT USE THE ONE CLICK INSTALL from the MSI CD
 4) Install the latest Nvidia VGA driver from http://www.nvidia.com
 5) Open the MSI Driver CD and start installing the devices one by one. Reboot between installations
 6) Once done with the drivers, install the applications. Same thing here, reboot between installations
 7) Download and install the latest Intel 4600 drivers from http://www.intel.com
I tried them all, only the above made it work. I have been testing the machine for the last 12hrs with no issues, well lets hope at least.
 Thanks!!!

  • Macbook Pro shuts down during boot

    Hi there,
Few days ago I spilled some beer on my 2 weeks old Macbook Pro... I immediately cleaned it, removed the battery and charger and left it to dry for 1.5 day.
After the drying period I tried to power up the machine, it did work but unfortutanely shut itself during the boot (the spinning wheel) and power button didn't respond again until I removed and re-connect my battery. Tried everything such as Nvram/Pram and SMC reset, single user thing, verbose mode, changing ram dimms but got nothing. It did eventually boot with hardware test but again got nothing as the test indicated that there weren't any problems.
It always shuts itself after "Checking catalog file" in the verbose mode.
(The machine shuts itself even when I try to boot it with os x installation disc so the only thing that I can reach is the hardware test.)
(To tell the truth I don't know if I succeeded creating a bootable installation disc as I did it under windows.. I'm hoping that I failed and that it can actually boot from dvd drive)
Did I just screwed my logic-board, if so how can I run all the tests.. Any suggestions?

Actually the computer is 2 weeks old, I spilled the beer 2 days ago.
Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery.  Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain.  Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture.  Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer.  You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
Some users here swear by hairdryers.  Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components.  Better to let the computer air dry.
Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer.  If you spilled iced beverage more than likely this ice fried the hot motherboard.
Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop.  Apple Care does not cover liquid or food damage.  Believe me, they can tell.  So the old "my computer stopped working" line is not going to work.
In order to not void your warranty any further, take it and let the staff clean it.  It's worth it for a 2 week old computer.   In the future, avoid eating and drinking while using your computer.  Will avoid future heartache and expense.

  • Macbook Pro shuts down after booting up

I'm a new Macbook Pro owner running OS X.5. After booting up my computer "unexpectedly" quits and I need to hold power button and reboot. Sometimes it does this twice before finally operating normally. Any suggestions?
    Macbook Novice

    Either:
    a) Boot up in Safe Mode (hold down shift key at startup) to force checks and repairs
    or
    b) Boot holding down Apple/S (single user Mode) and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
    fsck -fy
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - run the command again and keep doing so (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
    reboot

  • IMAC powers down before boot up is complete

After a forced power down my iMAC won't boot again.
The machine simply powers off after the spinning gear on the gray start up screen spins for a few seconds.
I've tried booting in safe mode, doing a PRAM reset and inserting the Installer DVD but I don't even get to any of these steps and the machine turns off.
    help!

Do the SMC reset at least 2X, sometimes it doesn't always work the first time. If you still don't have luck please restart in Safe Mode , this will clear some caches. If that doesn't work you may have a hardware issue and should then try running Apple Hardware TestHardware Test in Extended Mode. If you can run AHT in Extended Mode if it does not find errors after the first pass then run it again 2-3 more times, sometimes AHT doesn't find errors after the first or second pass.
If you still don't have any luck then your can try to boot from the Leopard Disc by holding down the C key when you hear the startup tone. This is a slow boot because loading from the DVD is time consuming. Then enter Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and Repair Disk Permissions and also run Repair Disk. If the disk return errors continue to run RD at least another 2-3 more times until no errors come up.  However your computer is old and the HD may have failed.

  • Monitor displays wallpaper after mac pro powered down

since I replaced my MBP with a new Mac Pro, after I shut down, my wallpaper is still displayed on my display (HP 2335).
I can even disconnect the DVI from my mac pro, and it is still displayed. I've never seen anything like this.
    Any ideas?

Similar thing happens to me. I'm suspicious that the other 2 times I have heard of it (including your account), it has been the combo of an early 2008 Mac Pro and an HP L2335, which is what I have.
I don't have a fix - just find it slightly annoying.

    Hi B,
You can't even startup in Single User?
If you are getting the splash screen some starting is being done, press COMMAND+V after Power button and see if you can read something that would give a clue about the issue.
If Single User is possible get the syslog report posted here.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite L350-20G powers down during boot up

My Satellite L350-20G starts to boot up and after 10 seconds powers off.
    Also it refuses to charge.
We have exchanged fully charged battery packs with an identical model and same problem.

I have the same problem with my Toshiba L series laptop
I check the output DC voltage of the battery, it reads 10.8 Volts, 4000mAh Model No. PA35346-1BA5
The DC output voltage of the AC/DC adapter, reads 19 volts at 3,95 amperes Model ADP-75SB BB
i think the adapter output voltage is not compatible with voltage requirement of battery of the laptop.
Please check your battery and ac/dc adapter ratings which affects the battery life, maybe there is an over voltage limit switch installed on the motherboard which keeps the unit turning off whenever the ac/dc adapter is connected due to higher voltage rating.
I think the allowable output voltage requirement of the AC/DC adapter should only be up to 12Volts DC to minimize the heat produced during charging period.

  • Mac Pro Shuts Down After Boot.

Hey guys I have a 2008 Mac Pro. I went to turn it on today and It started like normal up to the Apple logo screen then shuts off. I've looked around on here for a while and cannot find any posts that have the same problem that I am having. Any ideas????

Have you done any maintance on your mac pro lately?
It might be clogged with dust and Cooling compound is likely dry as old bubbelgum.
Try to check your internals of the mac if its clean, disassemble the heatsinks, both on northbridge, CPU and, GPU. Also remove the PSU cage to look for dust at/inside the PSU, if so disassemble the PSU and get it clean. Don't just stick a vacuum cleaner at the back.
check this guide how to disassemble the CPU heatsinks

↑ GT72 using their own motherboard, which from MSI.
↑ The only different between a MYR9,999 and a MYR11,999 GT72 Dominator Pro is the capacity of the RAM: 16GB and 32GB.
↑ It getting 604 in CPUmark.
↑ GT72 equips with Super RAID 3 512GB SSD, which provide a 5 seconds start up time(From button to desktop). Average getting a 1,586 MB/s READING speed, and 1,325 MB/s WRITING speed on ATTO Disk Bench Mark.
↑ And the HDD getting an average 133 MB/s READING speed and an average 131 MB/s WRITING speed.
↑ Tested it with another software, and got a result of 1422 MB/s READING speed and 1081 MB/s WRITING speed on SSD, isn't that much differences from the test above.
    ↑ A 125 MB/s READING speed and 105 MB/s WRITING speed on HDD.
    ↑ Take a look on GTX980MB
Benchmark by using 3DMark Professional Edition:
    3D Mark 11 Advanced Edition:
    ↑ On ENTRY level
    ↑ On PERFORMANCE level
    ↑ On XTREAME level
Besides on gaming performance, it's very important to make sure it support casual works as well.
↑ On PCmark 8 HOME for some common home computing test: 4653
↑ On PCmark 8 CREATIVE for experts and proffesionals: 5445
↑ On PCmark 8 WORK for some simple office productivity test: 4401
↑ On PCmark 8 STORAGE to test SSD & HDD: 5017, and getting a average 330 MB/s Storage bandwidth.
At last, we'll be doing CPU heat test:
↑ Before we run the test, the cores temperature is around 40 degrees, and 33 degrees on hard disk.
↑ After we had run for a 30 minutes maxed performance test, with full fans on, we're getting 75 - 80 degrees on CPU cores and unbelievable still 33 degrees on hard disk.
To be honest, after tried on GT72 Dominator PRO, I just can't live without it anymore.
The BattleField 4 running smoothly with photoshop on background, I can finally play some video games while taking a break on my photo editing and graphic design works, in the coffee shop of course.
Although it looks pretty heavy, but it's actually much portable than I thought, in facts it's phenomenal thin for such a powerful performance beast.
Carry around with the backpack it provided isn't a difficult task at all.
Besides, one last thing to show:
↑ Sexiest design that let the heats never became an issue anymore.

yeah.... with so much different angle and good quality, they are truly good photo shooting pieces!

I have tried follow your guide:
The problem is that the computer never find or recognizes the ssd disk. This only makes me format the already installed harddrive.
What is the problem? I have tried updating my Intel rapid technology. I have tried booting in legacy. I have tried switching the ssd to ssd2 port in the m2 sata rack.
Have i bought the wrong m.2 sata disk? Why does the computer not recognize the m.2 sata disk, it fits correctly in the m.2. sata rack.
Is "PCIe" compatible with M.2 SATA interface?? I dont know what this Means..

Welcome to the club! I bought the wrong drive too! - Although I did so after phoning MSI and asking them if the drive was okay... they said yes, it wasn't. LoL.
