Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

I get the following error when I try to run gnome-terminal:
$ gnome-terminal
(gnome-terminal:4165): Gtk-WARNING **: GTK+ module /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-module.so cannot be loaded.
GTK+ 2.x symbols detected. Using GTK+ 2.x and GTK+ 3 in the same process is not supported.
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
$
I found that libcanberra-gtk-module.so is owned by libcanberra 0.28-1:
$ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-module.so
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-module.so is owned by libcanberra 0.28-1
$
And even tried to remove it, but there are other packages which depend on it:
$ sudo pacman -R libcanberra
checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: gdm: requires libcanberra
:: kdebase-runtime: requires libcanberra
:: libgnome: requires libcanberra>=0.28
$
If I understood properly it complains mixing gtk-2 and gtk-3 in gnome-terminal process.
I have both versions installed:
extra gtk3 3.0.11-1 [installed]
extra gtk2 2.24.4-2 [installed]
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks!

  • [SOLVED]Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

    Hi,
    I'm getting this message
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
    keepassx: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libindustrial.so: undefined symbol: gtk_check_version
    for various gtk-based applications.
    I've read that is fixed, https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/23655.
    Using Arch 64 bit, XFCE here.
    Any clue?

    Changing gtk theme do the trick. I get the message, but applications start ok.

  • Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

    I'm in the process of getting OpenBox up and running on my new Arch system. I installed obmenu to edit the menus, but when I try to run it from the terminal I get
    Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
    and it won't start. I get the same message when I run gedit from the terminal, but gedit actually loads. How can I resolve this?

    bohoomil wrote:
    Obmenu itself doesn't depend on libcanberra. It's most likely required by another Gtk application. The module should be loaded with your WM. If it's not, add the following at the beginning of your .xinitrc (assuming you start X session with startx), and check again.
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/* ; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f

    I suggested you look at other similar posts because the reason you get the error may be various things indeed...
    Yep, that's already a part of my .xinitrc.
    azleifel, what should I set the GTK_Modules path to?

  • Failed to load module "wfb"

    I just did a clean install and I get the message failed to load module "wfb" (module does not exist,0). I am using a Nvidia Gforce FX 5600 so it is supported by the latest drivers. Not sure where to find "wfb" module. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!! I searched this site and also google.com/linux and no help for my problem.

  • NV GeForce 7600, nvidia-304xx-lts, but Failed to load module "nvidia"

    Hi,
    I'm trying to replace nouveau driver with nvidia-304xx-lts for my NVIDIA Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600 GT] videocard.
    I'm following advices at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nvidia.
    I have installed the linux kernel: core/linux-lts 3.14.21-1.
    I modified the script for switching from nouveau to nvidia, like:
    #!/bin/bash
    # nouveau -> nvidia
    # run as root
    set -e
    # check if root
    if [[ $EUID -ne 0 ]]; then
    echo "You must be root to run this script. Aborting...";
    exit 1;
    fi
    if [ -e /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-nouveau.conf ]
    then rm -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-nouveau.conf
    fi
    cp /Adatok/ArchLinuxBeallitasok/30-nvidia.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
    sed -i 's/MODULES="nouveau"/#MODULES="nouveau"/' /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    pacman -Rdds --noconfirm xf86-video-nouveau mesa-libgl lib32-mesa-dri lib32-mesa-libgl
    pacman -S --noconfirm nvidia-304xx-lts lib32-nvidia-304xx-libgl
    mkinitcpio -p linux
    reboot
    The 30-nvidia.conf is:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Nvidia Card"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    Option "NoLogo" "true"
    EndSection
    When I run after reboot and bash login:
    startx
    I get not the X Window system, but error messages.
    The /var/log/Xorg.0.log file is:
    [ 229.009] (II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
    [ 229.009] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so

    [ 229.013] (EE) No drivers available.
    What am I missing here? How can I solve this problem?
    Regards, from Pál

    I solve the problem with the script:
    #!/bin/bash
    # nouveau -> nvidia
    # run as root
    set -e
    # check if root
    if [[ $EUID -ne 0 ]]; then
    echo "You must be root to run this script. Aborting...";
    exit 1;
    fi
    if [ -e /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-nouveau.conf ]
    then rm -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-nouveau.conf
    fi
    cp /Adatok/ArchLinuxBeallitasok/30-nvidia.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
    sed -i 's/MODULES="nouveau"/#MODULES="nouveau"/' /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    pacman -Rdds --noconfirm xf86-video-nouveau mesa-libgl lib32-mesa-dri lib32-mesa-libgl
    pacman -S --noconfirm nvidia-304xx lib32-nvidia-304xx-libgl
    mkinitcpio -p linux
    reboot
    The needed package was: nvidia-304xx because I'm using linux 3.17.1-1 kernel.

    Just did a downgrade and it's working again, here are my versions.

    linux-headers 3.9.9-1
    nvidia 319.32-2
    nvidia-utils 319.32-1

    If you have conflicts, I found it easiest to remove those (bbswitch, virtualbox in my case), downgrade linux and then install the appropriate  bbs/vb packages

  • Error message "failed to load an application resource (internal error)" when checking form in LiveCycle preview PDF

    After creating a form, when I click on Preview PDF, I am now getting an error message "Failed to load an application resource (internal error)". Not sure why this has started recently, but it makes it impossible to check my forms for clients before I send them. I can open them outside of the program in Adobe Reader, but it is faster to check the form within LiveCycle and change them if necessary. Please help!

    I fixed mine! In Reader 9 and 10.0 I had disabled the ReadOutLoud feature as it kept popping up whenever it felt like it, and I don't need ReadOutLoud. What worked for me was first to purge the system of Reader 9 - the uninstall routine leaves stuff behind. Then I went into the Reader 10 program folder, located the plug_ins sub folder, and renamed it to oldplug_ins. Then I ran the repair routine which recreated the plug_ins subfoler.. All now works, except that the <expletive deleted> ReadOutLoud is up to its old tricks again, but I can live with that for now.
    Hope this helps.

  • TS1702 I am having trouble opening the Times and Sunday Times Newspaper App in my iPad Newstand. Each time I seek to load I get the message "Failed to load the Kiosk".

    I have been told by the T8imes helpline that this is an Apple problem with its Newsstand. I have tried deleting the App and reloading it. Still the same message  "Failed to load the Kiosk" appears. I have tried a hard reset of the iPad, again without success. Can you suggest anything else?

    You bought an app but it did not work properly on your device. You can easily report problems with your iTunes Store purchases via the iTunes Store. Here is how:
    Launch iTunes > Choose Store > Sign in.
    Store > View My Account > Purchase History then Click the Report a Problem button.
    Fill out the form explaining the problem you are having.
    Submit the problem report and wait for a response from Apple, they usually respond within 24 hours.
    Notes:
    When Apple emails your invoice, there will be a link on the invoice. You may also click the “Report Problem” link next to the app that you are having issues with to report your problems.
    Problems with in-app purchases or free apps, report them here:http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/
    Before reporting your issue, make sure that you followed these troubleshooting steps explained here.

    Hi vbCoach1!
    If these items were purchased from the iTunes Store, then you can find an article about re-downloading past purchases right here:

  • TS1702 Previously purchased book on iBooks, previously read. Still visible on iBooks on the iPad. When I attempt to open the book now, I get the message: "Failed to load book because the requested resource is missing." Help.   Larry

    On iBooks app on iPad: When trying to open a previously purchased and read book, I get the message "Failed to load book because the requested resource is missing."    How can I open the book again?      Larry107

    Quit the iBooks app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logou appears and let go of the button.
    Or try deleting the book and download it again. You can download it again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID.
    If that doesn't work either, sometimes deleting the iBooks app and reinstalling it may work. But art with the first two suggestions.

  • Failed to load module "record"

    I'm trying to install Arch Linux on my Dell GX270 with an Intel chipset I'm nusing the i686 version rather than the xf86_64 version. It has a 2.26 Ghz processor and 512mb RAM
    I've tried installing xorg and configured it with hwd -xa and such but when I do startx I get:
    (EE) Failed to load module "record" (module does not exist, 0)
    (EE) No devices detected
    lspci | grep VGA gives:
    00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
    Some other people seem to have had a similar problem but it was a problem with Nvidia chipsets and I have an Intel one. I tried commenting out the line of xorg.conf where it says to load module record as I've already had to comment the type1 one out but then it just says (EE) No devices detected.
    Can anyone help?

    It doesn't work from root either and gives the same error.
    I tried blacklisting it but it didn't seem to have any effect, and I don't really understand why it would. The problem is that it doesn't seem to exist.
    What does the module do anyway? I've never heard of it before and it just doesn't sound critical somehow. Googling it just returns this thread. Is it possible that the record module is just a minor thing like the type1 module which I had to comment out and the actual problem goes deeper?

    /Richard

    those are xorg modules
    As xorg7 is modular, you'll need to install the modules you need. At least you should have for keyboard and mouse to work:
    pacman -S xf86-input-mouse xf86-input-keyboard
    Then you should have one for your video card
    pacman -S xf86-video-{your video}
    You can see which ones are available from
    pacman -Ss xf86-video
    Then you need to configure xorg if you haven't done so far.
    As root type 'xorgconfig' for a nice script to help you configure it.

  • Failed to load module "pcidata"

    i just did a fresh install on a new system, and am down to just configuring xorg.conf. I used hwd -xa to configure it, then went in to change the resolution and driver line. But when run startx, i get
    (EE) Failed to load module "pcidata" (module does not exist, 0)
    Fatal server error:
    Unable to load required base modules, Exiting...
    Any ideas?

    thanks, that worked like a charm. One last question, lets say i want to install all the gstreamer packages, what command can i use to install them all at once?
