GTK2 theme: Dustry

Dustry is a GTK2 theme which uses the best parts of the Industrial, Mist and Clearlooks theme engines.
Dustry uses the awesome stock icons by RoberTO and Jimmac Steiner.
Dustry is also the first theme about to include a shell script, which you, the user can use to create a copy of Dustry with different colours. Details are in the README.
You can see screenshots of Dustry and a slight variation in action here:
http://xfce-look.org/content/pre1/23694-1.png
http://xfce-look.org/content/pre2/23694-2.png

And download it here:
http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php?c … n=47797499
And dont forget to vote me up
Dustrial requires the Mist, Industrial and Clearlooks engines for best appearance. Theyre probably installed.
Enjoy!

The xfce-look.org download page does not want to show up. It's not inaccessible; it just shows a blank page. The same is true of all similar pages on gnome-look.org,  kde-look.org, and xfce-look.org.
Great theme anyway!

  • Setting new GTK2 theme in openbox? [SOLVED]

I downloaded the theme pack from this thread:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=74915
    post #23
I was able to get part of the theme working (menu color and window decoration) but the actual GTK2 theme is being difficult. I have installed lxappearance, gtk-chtheme, and switch 2 trying all of them but none seem to want to do anything with the .theme file. Is there a way to do this manually or am I going about it the wrong way?

I use lxappearance. Copy the whole Simplicity folder to ~/.themes/, start lxappearance, and select it. It's that simple! (and there's step by step instructions in the readme file included with each of my desktops)

  • [Solved] lxappearance can't set GTK2 themes in v0.5.1

    Hi all,
I have an LXDE system running with lxappearance-0.5.0 installed and can use lxappearance to set the theme e.g. Clearlooks, Crux and such. If I then upgrade the package to lxappearance-0.5.1, the colours are changed but there are no widgets (just the basic non-themed ones). No errors appear in the terminal window at any point.
If I roll back the change, everything's working again. I managed to recreate the issue on another system, so I'm assuming this version is broken. Can anyone confirm if this is a bug?
    Thanks.
[Edit] Just noticed that in v0.5.0, all themes work except Adwaita which I'm sure is a GTK3 theme. In v0.5.1, Adwaita is the ONLY theme that works. Maybe lxappearance is built to handle GTK2 or GTK3 themes, but not both? Sorry if I'm confusing the issue any further.
    [Edit] Fixed in lxappearance 0.5.1-2.

I noticed this myself. It seems like the latest lxappearance (0.5.1) has been ported to GTK3, and trying to set the GTK2 theme with it does not work so well. I tried installing it with abs and deleting the --enable-gtk3 config option from the PKGBUILD file, but that only seemed to change the appearance of the application back to GTK2--it did nothing to correct how it handled the themes. I ending up giving up and manually configuring my ~/.gtkrc-2.0. For example, here is mine:
    gtk-icon-theme-name = "nuoveXT2"
    gtk-theme-name = "Clearlooks"
    gtk-font-name = "FreeSans 10"
See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GTK+ for more information. Another option would be to install a different application such as gtk2_prefs or gtk-theme-switch2, but I didn't find any of these to be as robust as lxappearance. You might also want to look at lxappearance2-git in AUR. Don't bother with the lxappearance-gtk2 package, as it is merely lxappearance 0.5.1 with a GTK2 interface.

  • GTK2 -- themes problem

    Hi,
I've got strange problem.  I am having some troubles with changing my gtk2 theme. I already have some applied, it is a dark theme.

but It can't change nothing now!
I dont get it!   Where is the theme path stored???  I move out the .gtkrc-2.0 and there is still my black theme set up!!!!    WTF?
    Thanks for help!

YES, I'm sure,  in gtk3 apps I have diffrent theme.
I really dont khnow what it is about,  maybe the system is telling me to go for GTK3 apps???   But still, i hate to have smth undone on my system.
Iam looking forward any ideas. Cheers!

  • Xfce4-panel layout and gtk2 theme

    hello,
i'm using openbox and i gave xfc4-panel a try. i liked it a lot, but it uses the gtk2 layout.
is there a possibility to setup the panel layout independently of the gtk2 theme used?
    vlad

I guess not, but you can always change the way panels (and panels only) look with the gtk theme itself. Check some themes on gnome-look or wherever, I suggest Elegant Brit. There the gtkrc links to a file "panel.rc" which has different colours, buttons etc set for panels.

  • [SOLVED] Building 32bit gtk2 theme engines for binary 32bit apps

Hello, I love the nimbus theme and have installed it from the AUR.
Sadly, there are applications like acroread, foxitreader etc. that won't load the engine and use a nasty default saying
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "/opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libgnomebreakpad.so": /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libgnomebreakpad.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

As far as I understand, especially since using the Clearlooks engine, everything works as intended. Clearlooks however has a 32bit version in
    /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines
I want to be able to use the nimbus theme everywhere. However I can't figure out how to make a 32bit binary with the provided gcc and moreover, where to put the resulting files.
Please help, it really murders consistency and renders 64bit Arch a real pain in the a**. I know about the pure 64bit stance, but honestly, there are some apps that are simply only 32bit.

    Okay so... status update.
I really wanted to make Acrobat Reader work with the Nimbus theme.
I used yaourt in a hastily set-up chroot and build the package from the aur (fortunately you can cancel the actual installation). I then copied the pkg.tar.gz to my desktop.
The 32bit Gtk themes are installed in:
    /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines
I used the line from the AUR pkgbuild:
    cp -rPf "$srcdir/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines" "$pkgdir/opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0"
    So, on my system:
    cp -rPf /home/dan/Desktop/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/ /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/
after having unzipped the package - nimbus-0.1.2-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz.
The -r option means recursive, the -P option preserver permissions and the -f option checks if the destination file can be opened and if not, deletes it and recopies.
You will notice that in the above directory, you'll find 2 files - libnimbus.a and libnimbus.so
All the other themes only have the shared object file and the .a file is an archive as far as nautilus is concerned (can't open it, need ar apparently). Everything seems to work if you delete the .a file. I am not sure if the file is only appears with this theme, or with any theme installed this way.
So, finally, it worked. Acrobat opened and used the new theme.
    But...
    Vertical scrollbar problem
by LucasVieites on: May 4 2009
Hi, the vertical scrollbars overlap when viewing large documents. This screenshot is from Adobe Reader opening a 600 page document: http://www.codexion.com/files/pdf_reader_nimbus.png
I hope this can be solved.
    from the gnome-look.org site.
So, it's bugged. The theme. Anyway, the tutorial should work just fine on any non-standard theme you need to use in 32bit apps. It could probably be automated a bit more and perhaps with a multilib gcc, you could do it some other way.
The point is you really need the libnimbus.so. The shared resources are architecture independent and the standard path will work.
Oh and I've given up on the nimbus theme itself actually. Care to suggest any good gtk theme?

  • Problem changing GTK2 theme with switch2

    Hi everyone,
I'm stuck with an annoying problem...
Well I'm currently using Openbox alternatively with Fvwm and I use switch2 to change my GTK theme...
However I recently changed my theme to Muku (a port for Linux of a Windows Theme made by Lyrae).
    This worked smoothly...
But now, when I want to change for another one some applications are blocked with Muku and won't change (ie Wifi-radar, and some others I do not recall for now...)
The strange thing is that ROX still switches perfectly...
So if anyone has any idea on how to solve that, I'd be most grateful !
    Thx in advance.

I decided to switch to wordpress. Is there any kind of function in iweb that allows for a transfer of the blog, or am I going to have to go in and manually move each entry and each photo and each comment? I'm thinking I am, and I'm really not looking forward to this...

  • Broken GTK2 themes

Hello. I'm not sure when this happened, but I think it happened when I upgraded from gnome 2.4 to 2.6, a lot of themes got lost... it looks like the pixmaps are gone, all those theme are very.. square-like.
These include Amaranth, Lush, Wasp, Nuvola etc.
    Any ideas?

    Have you updated gtk-engines accordingly.

  • [SOLVED] GTK2 apps have wrong theme when launched from desktop entry.

So I'm setting up KDE and I want to use the QtCurve theme for all applications where possible. I have set (via kde-gtk-config) the GTK2 theme to QtCurve and it half works. GTK2 applications are using the QtCurve theme when they are launched via a command, but they are using what appears to be an ugly version of the Oxygen theme when launched from a .desktop file. I previously installed gtk-qt-engine from the AUR, but have since removed it along with it's files, and as I was using the Oxygen theme at the time, this appears to be what has caused the issue. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?
EDIT: Solved by removing ~/.themes folder (obviously only remove the KDE-QT theme if there are other themes in the folder).

Thanks, but lxappearance made things rather worse.
A friend of mine had told me to put "gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS" into settings.ini and my problem is solved now.

  • [solved] XFCE Dual monitor causes theme & icon, xconf issues

    Hey all,
    Here is the issue:
I have  sony svz13114gxx laptop with xfce4 DE, i just tried to hook up external vga monitor to laptop and everything configures right (no mirroring) with this run  in normal session:
    xrandr --output eDP1 --mode 1920x1080
    xrandr --newmode "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -hsync +vsync
    xrandr --addmode VGA1 1920x1200_60.00
    xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1200_60.00
    xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of eDP1
Obviously when i reboot this is not persistent, so then i put this stuff in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
    Option "monitor-eDP1" "eDP1"
    Option "monitor-VGA1" "VGA1"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "VGA1"
    Modeline "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -HSync +VSync
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1200_60.00"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "eDP1"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
    Option "Primary" "true"
    Option "Position" "1920 0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Device "Intel Graphics"
    Monitor "eDP1"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1920x1080"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
This is where the problems start. On reboot Slim desktop manager seems to be stretched properly across the two monitors, but the I login and the display switches back to being mirrored, my xfce gtk2 theme is disabled in favor of somee default looking one, my icons are back to default, and none of my custom keyboard shorcuts work.
I can then use xrandr to get the displays in extended mode again, but the themes and icons etc do not revert. And on reboot, i have the same issue.
I have tried the  sourcing ~/.xprofile, ~/.xinitrc, and ~/.config.xfce4/xinitrc routes, putting the xrandr cammands above the exec lines and that doesn't even enable VGA1.

    [ 1442.644]Hey all,
    Here is the issue:
I have sony svz13114gxx laptop with xfce4 DE, i just tried to hook up external vga monitor to laptop and everything configures right with this run in normal session:
    [code]
    xrandr --output eDP1 --mode 1920x1080
    xrandr --newmode "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -hsync +vsync
    xrandr --addmode VGA1 1920x1200_60.00
    xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1200_60.00
    xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of eDP1
    [/code]
Obviously when i reboot this is not persistent, so then i put this stuff in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:
    [code]
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
    Option "monitor-eDP1" "eDP1"
    Option "monitor-VGA1" "VGA1"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "VGA1"
    Modeline "1920x1200_60.00" 193.25 1920 2056 2256 2592 1200 1203 1209 1245 -HSync +VSync
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1200_60.00"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "eDP1"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
    Option "Primary" "true"
    Option "Position" "1920 0"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Device "Intel Graphics"
    Monitor "eDP1"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1920x1080"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection[/code]
I have been to all these places

I'm using XFCE as well, 2 monitors, the left one rotated 90º. The main difference it's that I've the 'Virtual' option inside 'SubSection'; not sure if it's relevant.

  • Eclipse theme problem under GNOME 3

Because I use dark themes, I have to start Eclipse like this:
    env GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Redmond/gtk-2.0/gtkrc eclipse
But now it's not working correctly. Here is the problem:
    http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6670 … source.png
Everything is looking fine except the sidebars, they're almost unreadable. I tried many GTK2 themes, but just this one and the Industrial works like this, all the other don't.
    What should I do?
I have the same problem with Netbeans.
ps.: Please, do not write comments like: "Don't use dark themes"!

    Hi Unia,
This problem predates the recent Fontconfig changes.
By "suddenly", I mean that at some random time after I login to my GNOME 3 session, the fonts go from normal to corrupted. It could be 30 seconds or it could be 30 minutes.
The fonts don't always stay corrupted, either: for example, at another random point in time, my XChat fonts will go back to normal, but my VirtualBox and Chromium fonts will still be corrupted. If I logout and login again, the problem is fixed, until they decide to randomly break again.

  • Pretty gtk2 as root, ugly as non-root? [/SOLVED]

Heh, this is actually a little bit interesting. I've never ran anything that requires X as root until just a few minutes ago and realized that running applications such as pidgin and firefox as root, they are significantly prettier than what it looks like when I run it as non-root, even with the same gtk2 theme as you can see in the picture above. Oh, by the way, can you guys which one is my non-root and root running the above? The left is as non-root and the right is as root. See? A lot prettier... And I always questioned why Firefox was so damn ugly on Linux. It looks like it is suppose to as root.
Anyhow, I am curious on either what my non-root account is lacking (I think it is lacking the ability to read certain files), how could I configure it to look like what it does on root, or so on whatever the deal is. To me, this is just crazy. Heh, I am not saying how it looks is totally important, I've always been a fan of usability which is why I use dwm and stuff, but this is just crazy to me, lol, crazy...
Yeap.. So any ideas what I am doing wrong, missing, so on, lalala?
Edit: Blah, I feel like a fool. I played around with it more and realized it was clearlooks on root. My bad my bad my bad. :\ Well, at least y'all know what theme I'll be using. 8D

how are you selecting the gtk theme as non-root? also, which DE/wm are you using?

  • [SOLVED] gtk3 living with gtk2

I am using Xfce, and after updating today I noticed that the Gnome applications I have installed that are now running under gtk3 look like crap. I followed the instructions in this thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116451), but there are two major issues. First, I must set my Xfce theme to Adwaita, which ends up looking like Clearlooks. Second is gtk3 applications look completely different from all of the gtk2 applications, since even though Adwaita looks like Clearlooks in gtk2, it looks completely different in gtk3.
As applications get ported over to gtk3, I fear that my desktop will get steadily more and more inconsistent. Is there any way to get gtk3 and gtk2 playing together nicely?
Additionally, whenever I start a gtk application, I get the following error message:
    (gvim:24151): Gtk-WARNING **: GTK+ module /usr/lib/gtk-3.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-module.so cannot be loaded.
GTK+ 2.x symbols detected. Using GTK+ 2.x and GTK+ 3 in the same process is not supported.
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Since this happens with gvim, it gets very annoying...

All I really want is for GTK3 apps to look like my GTK2 apps.
I'm very, very happy with my GTK2 theme and love the way the widgets look.  The widgets as drawn by GTK3 (with Adwaita) look like garbage.  Having CSS support for themes is great, but it means that lot more work has to be done if you want to modify it.
If I could somehow use the Clearlooks GTK2 engine with GTK3, I could at least give GTK3 apps something that doesn't look terrible.
The upcoming GNOME3 release is what made me switch to Xfce a number of months ago (I hated the way it looked), looks like they got me in the end with GTK3. >:-(

  • Gtk3 Theme Troubleshooting

I am running XFCE for my DE/WM and have had some mismatched apps since updating to GNOME3 versions. I have been using the NOX Gtk2 theme, which unfortunately, has no matching Gtk3 theme. Yesterday I switched to the Atolm-gtk3 theme provided in this AUR package, which is a beautiful dark theme that includes a matching theme for Gtk2. Unfortunately, this theme has not been updated since the spring and therefore needed a little love to get working with Gtk 3.2. After satisfying its dependencies and fixing the bugs that were throwing errors and warnings, I have moved on to tweaking the appearance of the Gtk3 theme to fix a couple inconsistencies that were annoying me. However, I have been stumped by a salmon-colored highlight that appears when selecting window elements by keyboard. This gallery demonstrates what happens when I open up the search application (gnome-search-tool) and press tab several times. This bug is particularly annoying in apps that have an element selected by default, such as Disk Usage Analyzer (Baobab). I have studied the Gtk3 documentation, and the gtk-widgets.css and gtk.css for the theme, but I can't figure out how to change this color, or even what property sets it.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there another documentation resource that I should study? Are there other quite dark (but not black) themes out there that have matching Gtk2-3 versions which would better suit my needs?

One thing you could try is use an app like 'gpick' that allows you to sample colors and have it display the result in html colors, then you can take that color code and search for it in gtk.css and gtk-widgets.css of your theme.
I mod themes, and that is probably where i would start looking, beyond that, im not sure.
    However, if you are just looking for a dark theme that works with gtk3.2, I am the author of 2 themes, available at gnome.look.org;
    Marples-black
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=144240
    Blapple
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=144800
out o the two, i myself prefer Blapple (although, Marples is way more popular, by downloads). They both are still a work in progress as gtk3.2 broke some stuff, so i have been changing things around, but they work decent enough. (plus, you can always mod them )
    0.
EDIT: Both of my themes include gtk3/gtk2 themes, as well as a metacity theme (they use the same metacity theme
