GTX 280 OC problem
I have problem with my card.
It's 2 year's old, and problem start year ago. It start to stumble.
I suspect owerheat, but I changed to termalright T-rad and It's still same.
PLS help.
You suspect overheat? It is quite possible, but what do you base that on?
Use MSI Afterburner and MSI Kombustor to test the card under full load and monitor the temps and the GPU fan while testing.
Did the card start overheating after or before you added the new cooler? How much paste did you put on the GPU before mounting the new cooler?
What is your case cooling like? Do you have a side panel fan?
Remove the side panel and blow some air into your case to test the effect.

SLI problem, MSI gtx 280 super oc
I decided to get another gpu for my rig, the other being gigabyte gtx 280, and once I got the system running, it has been crashing usually always after a cold start (computed being shutdown for more than half an hour). By crashing I mean screen freeze. I have to shut the computer down and take the power off from the PSU. That fixes it untill I shut the computer down again for more than 30 minutes. I have tested both cards independently with OCCT, got no errors from memory and ran the gpu test for 1 hour straight and the temps stayed at 85C and no errors. RMA time or what could be the cause of the problem? Haven't had any such crashes when I was running a single gpu setting. Done clean install on graphics drivers, used driver sweeper etc. using the newest nvidia drivers. Had the same problem with every driver I have tried.

well I can test the msi card again, but psu shouldnt be an issue, its a 1000w psu, is there any way to test if the pci-e slot is faulty?
Quote
well I can test the msi card again,
Test it again alone, leave it full test.
Check ventilation system inside PC case and ensure that there is a good airflow.
Leave side door of the PC case open and add extra FAN to blow up directly to the VGA's.
Then re-test

See if you can place the second VGA in another pci-e slot instead, say 1st and 3th instead 1st and 2nd.

GTX 280 - Crashes and RMA - Theories on my life.
I have a MSI GTX 280 OC purchased in July 08. This is the proverbial third year of warranty where its not so sweet anymore. Recently everytime i start a game, couple of minutes later my screen shows me a multi-colored mosaic and crashes on that screen. The only way to resolve this is pushing the hard off button and restarting.
I tried re-installing drivers, reloading the OS, reloading the OS on a different hard drive. No luck. Then i put my card into another computer, and that one crashed too in the same way. I put my spare card in my original machine and games work (no longer pretty though). That pretty much concludes the investigation that it is the card that is bad.
I have opened an RMA request and am currently waiting for an RMA number. I just want to know how badly I am screwed. Also has anyone had this problem before and what do you think I am going to get? A big fat bill which would be better off getting a new card, or a replacement card, or a newer refurb. Just want to know where I am headed.
Thanks in advance for your responses.Quote from: Svet on 26-October-10, 01:44:36
Check VGA cooling system
The fan on the 280 runs without issue.
The card idles at about 40-45'C and when I game it goes to 65-70'C. It has always done this. I had run some extended temperature tests a few months ago and it was the same temperature then and now.
I also checked the power outs on the PSU. The spare PC I tested with has a 1000W PSU and a GTX 470 running right now, the 470 also ran fine in my pc. so ive ruled out the PSU. -
S10 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 280
Hi
I just bought a S10 model 6423-45G and a Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 280. The problem is that the powersurply only comes with 2 x 6 PIN power connectors for the graficcard but this new graficcard needs 1 x 6 PIN and 1 x 8 PIN power connector. Is there any S10 models on the market with 1 x 6 PIN and 1 x 8 PIN power connectors at this point in time or is the only solution to put in some power convert to support this graficcard?

Buzzing sound coming from MSI GTX 280
Hi guys,
I purchased a new PC with a MSI GTX 280 OC and I got a buzzing sound coming from the case.
I get the buzzing sound changing frequencies with certain 3D applications (games), windows vista screensavers, windows aero... i also hear when when resize/minimize/maximize the windows.
I thought it was PSU related, as it was the gfx card pulling power, but I've tried a Corsair HX620W and a Antec TruePower 1000W and I still got the buzzing sound with both the PSU's.
It seems originating from the MSI GTX 280.
Is anyone familiar with this problem or what can be done?
Also, for some awkward reason, I can't update my videocard drivers eithers. The installer holds at 50% and just holds without progressing. (I tried the official nvidia drivers and the ones on the MSI website). Same problem when manually installing the drivers.
For what it's worth, the retail box was also quite damaged.
Do I have a faulty card?
or is a bad combination with the rest of my system?
My system:
CPU : Intel E8600 (2x 3.33 GHz)
RAM : 4 GB Corsair
GFX : MSI GTX 280 OC
MOBO : Asus P5Q-E
PSU : Corsair HX620W
OS : Vista x64 Home Premium SP1Its a known fact that some GTX260/280, all brands, not just MSI, hum or buzz under load.
This is due to certain electrical components on the pcb.
Maybe you can RMA it, if you have a nice shop where you bought it and if your lucky the new one doesnt produce that sound, but no garantuees.
Some hardcore tweakers will open up the plastic case and put a few drops of superglue on the copper windings and that will solve it.
Its no more then reasonating copperwindings under load. -
I have just bought 2 gtx 280 graphic cards. I instaled the cd drives from the msi cd but in my nvidia panel there is no physix and sli option. When i installed the latest driver osd vivid and all other programs disapeard.Any suggestions? I want the latest drivers with the osd vivid and other application. Also is there any program to ajust the fan speed or it is automated by the graphic card? My temperatures playing games reach 70 degrees and more.Do i have (and with what) to adjust the fun speed or that is beeing automated from the graphic card byself?
Sorry for my poor English
Thanx in advance for your answers.Temperatures around 90°C at load would be still fine. Anything less than 100°C is ok. GTX280 are running awfully hot, so what you got is normal.
Riva Tuner would be good for fan control but don't lower fan speed too much. GTX280 are very noisy but they need high fan speeds in 3d.
OSD vivid? I guess your talking of the features of the MSI drivers. Those are MSI modified nvidia drivers to include such tools. None the less those aren't that up-to-date as the nvidia drivers. So you will most likely don't get the latest driver plus MSI features. If I were you with a quite new vga like GTX280 which requires newest drivers I'd rather go for the latest nvidia driver. Latest MSI driver with Star OSD and so on is 177.42 which is waayyy to old. Many fixes and performance increases for GT200 series came with 18x.xx drivers. Best would be going for nvidia 181.22.
First uninstall all currently installed nvidia drivers (also means the MSi ones) and then install 181.22 and SLi option should appear. -
Hi, I need help with my GTX 280 SuperOC.
I've just bought it from Ebay. After about 1 min playing game shuts my system automatically down. I try tu put the Core Clock from 700 to 650Mhz, but it does not help. Then I try Kombustor, but right after I click on the "start" button of Kombustor, my system shuts down. Afterburner always says that the temp is at 58-62C
I have read a few threads here, but it does not help. And I dont have any experience on overclocking.
My PC Specs:
Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe
Intel Core2 Duo E6400
Power 550W
4Gb DDR2 RAM
Windows 7 32bit
Thank you for any answer.12V Max. Current: 24A That is not enough, for a system with a 280 GTX you should have a PSU with +12V~40A you need a better PSU. You can not go by the watts as a good PSU will have much higher +12V amps than a cheap one with equal watt rating. Example yours +12V~24A, Corsair VX550W +12V~41A = 17 amps higher.
I recommend you get a Corsair VX550W +12V~41A or TX650W +12V~52A Keep trying to use the one you have and it could go up in fire and smoke and maybe burn other parts in your PC. -

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=122254.0I have 2 GTX 280 running in SLI with the new driver 182.06 vista 64 bit and everything works just fine.
First remove the physx software , than the nvidia driver with ad / remove programs in the configuration panel.
Restart you PC than install the new driver (182.06 vista 64 bit) and the new physx software (9.09.0203) is automatically installed with the driver. This is how i did it.
I use evga precision 1.4 tool for my GPU's and GPU-Z and there it is confirmed that sli is working as well in the nvidia controll panel.

Nvidia GTX 280-A good choice for video editing?
SO for the longest time now I have been having weird playback trouble with editing. I didn't think too much about it then because I didn't care that much about quality. This was when I was rockin CS3 and my card was an 8600 GTS. Recently I got a new computer with a sweet setup. It is an intel core 2 Quad @9550 with a GTX 280, 780i SLI board, and 5 gigs of DDR 2 ram. Yet, despite this, when ever I play footage into premiere, the images becomes slightly fuzzy in playback. This would not irritate as much as when I export it, The quality is just as bad. I uploaded HD footage off of a P2 card, exported it, and when you play it; it looks interlaced! The footage also looks like is did in premiere, very fuzzy. Now that I'm starting to get into the realm of HD this crap needs to stop. Does anyone have any ideas?
The fuzziness in your preview monitor is probably because you have the preview quality set to "automatic" or "draft". If you set it to "Highest Quality" it should look very good, albeit possibly pretty harsh on your processors.
At the bottom of your preview monitor look for a tiny icon that looks like 3 circles, click that and that's where you change the preview quality setting. This does NOT in any way affect the export, by the way.
The bad quality in your exports is a different story. We'd need exact specs as to what format, codecs, bitrates etc. you are exporting to. -
Photoshop CC 14.2.1 and NVidia GTX 660 Display Problems
I'm having exactly this problem:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6264980
The fix documented at the end of that thread works but the penalty is a loss of performance. In an attempt to fix it, I updated to the latest drivers from NVidia for the GTX 660 and as a result, further problems occur:
This sometimes happens when using the crop and straighten tool at 100%.
More often though, irrespective of zoom settings I get:
This happens quite frequently with the dust and scratches/surface blur tools too. Or even on occasion when duplicating a layer or merging layers.
The following gets written out to the event log:

For now I'm using the following work around but with some performance penalty:
Drawing mode: Basic (resolves the issue with mask overlay being patchy and rendering slowly at 100% zoom)
OpenCL: Disabled (resolves Photoshop crashing with crop/straighten and other tools as described above)
This needs to be fixed! The reduced performance increases the time I spend editing, particularly a large product shoot undertaken recently for a client.

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEMy advice: Rather that wait hopefully, try some alternate configuration settings.
Specifically, go into your Preferences - Performance - Advanced Settings panel, and try the different options there, making sure to close Photoshop and restart it after each change, then test.
It's possible Photoshop asked the nVidia display driver what it can do, and it said it could do something very advanced, but in the driver implementation some part of that advanced operation is run in the CPU, not the GPU. NVidia has been known to do this!
Thus it may be that if you choose a lesser drawing mode or change something (e.g., 30 bit display) you might find that particular combination of settings makes things run faster.

Hello! I just bough a new video card for my HP computer g5410sc. The card fitted in the computer just fine and once I booted up my computer , image sure does come to my screen. BUT it wont go any further. It starts beeping 3 times once the image goes away and nothing happens... Has someone experienced this same problem or is it just that you cant upgrade the video card??

What type of image comes on your screen?
The NVIDIA GTX 750 should work depending on the model. The below two MSI models should work.

890fxa-gd65 GTX 470 Stability problems
I have been reading with dismay that there are tons of problems with 400 series nvidia cards and i built my system for a video editing platform (adobe cs5.5). One of the few certified cards for this software is the gtx 470 series so thats what i bought. Here is my system build info:
Windows 7 ultimate 64
Cooler master 650w pwr supply
Phenom II X6 1090T
16 Gb Ram Corsair XMS3 4x4gb
Crucial C300 SSD 128 Gb
Wd black edition 1tb and 2Tb drives
PNY XLR8 GTX 470 video card
Well, i have had nothing but issues with screen blanking locking freezing while NOT under load ie just sitting on the desktop or web browsing. My temps are all fine, memtests fine, bios is latest for Mobo and firmwares are all latest for anything and everything i could update. Reseated video card, processor, memory. Apparently the 400 series cards have a known issue with working on some machines and not on others. Anyways, has anyone got an idea what i might do to get this card working on this machine. BTW the card was tested on another mobo with no problems so i know the card is not defective per se. Please help, i am pretty desperate to get this working. I have read about special bioses and such provided by other manufacturers to ensure compatibilty with these cards but no mention of it here or anywhere for that matter regarding this mobo. I am at a loss as to what to do. I have started support messages with both msi and pny so i ma hoping i can get this resolved. We can't help you with that videocard as it's not an MSI product.
Have you tried running with 1 memory stick or lowering the memory speed to 1333 or even 1066?
As for the videocard, many nVidia cards need a voltage a bit higher then standard to function properly.
But as your card is non MSI that is all we can say about it, it may not be the case. -
Hi!I have just buyed a new MSI N560GTX M2DIGD5 1 GB(non ti and not the Twin Frozer Edition) and i have been trying for hours and hours to install PhysX!Previriously i had on my computer an integrated ATI HD 3300!I have downloaded the last drivers from www.nvidia.com and everytime after the instal at the PhysX section it sayd FAIL!I also instaled the program GPU-Z and it shows PhysX unchecked!I am trying to run 2011 games so PhysX is a must!I have tryed to run the game Mafia 2 and always when i start it ,it says that i dont have PhysX so it begins to instal it!After the instal nothing happends and if i try to run the .exe again it begins to instal again!I have also tryed this:
"When upgrading the Graphics drivers, it is advised to ensure the old ones are properly removed.
If you download Driversweeper and Ccleaner, (Also make sure you have the latest Nvidia Drivers downloaded) then do the following:
Uninstall the Nvidia drivers from your PC (via the control panel) - it will normally ask / make you to restart the PC.
As the PC is restarting, load it up in 'Safe Mode' (pressing 'F8' on the keyboard during the boot up will get you the option)
When in 'Safe Mode', run Driversweeper to detect Nvidia Display and Nvidia PhysX. Once it has detected them all, delete them (I forget the message it tells you). Once deleted, it will ask you to restart your PC.
Again, as the PC is restarting, load into 'Safe Mode' - this time run Ccleaner. Select 'Registry' and then 'scan for issues'
Once the scan has finished, select 'fix issues' (make sure you save a copy of the registry when it asks you to - incase something goes wrong)
Then go into 'Device Manager' (right click on 'My Computer' / 'Computer', then 'Properties') Then select 'Display Adapters' and right click on your GTX470 - then 'Disable' (this will make sure that it does not try and automatically install the GTX470 when you restart.
Now, restart your PC into windows (normal restart)
Then go into 'Device Manager' (right click on 'My Computer' / 'Computer', then 'Properties') Then select 'Display Adapters' and right click on your GTX470 - then 'Enable' (cancel any messages to install drivers)
Finally install the Nvidia Drivers
Hopefully that will fix your problem."
I did this + when i have runned Driversweeper i check to delete the ATI drivers so they are not on this computer anymore!Even after doing all that and after hours and hour of trying with diferent drivers i still chould not make PhysX work !
My system is:
Windows 7 x64 bit
MB:Asrock 790GX PRO
CPU:AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2 GHz
RAM:Kingston HyperX Blue DDR3 4 GB 1600 MHz
PSU:Fortron SAGA II 500W
HDD:Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB
GPU:MSI Nvidia GTX 560 1 GB
Please help me!TyQuote from: Svet on 13-November-11, 01:15:38
