GTX 285 GB 512 DDR3 vs gtx 550ti

Quick q: Which one will work better in premire pro cs6

Actually, Bill, the OP meant "512-bit DDR3" for the GTX 285. There have never been any GTX 285 cards with only 512MB of RAM. Most GTX 285 cards came with 1GB of RAM, while a few offered 2GB.
In this case, between 1GB versions of those two GPUs, definitely the GTX 285: You did a test with both of those CPUs some time ago with CS5.5 and an i7-2600K overclocked to 4.4GHz with 16GB of RAM. The biggest difference is in the MPEG-2 DVD test of the PPBM5 benchmark: The GTX 285 completed this portion of the test in 117 seconds while the GTX 550 Ti needed all of 146 seconds. This is in large part due to the higher 159 GB/s bandwidth of the GTX 285's 512-bit DDR3 memory compared to only 98.4 GB/s for the 192-bit DDR5 memory on the GTX 550 Ti. However, both of those GPUs have fewer than 384 CUDA cores (240 for the GTX 285, 192 for the GTX 550 Ti), so expect both of those GPUs to be the bottleneck in faster PCs.

  • Geforce GTX 550ti 1GB or GTX 460 1GB or other?

I have a 2 year old homebuilt i7 920 with 12GB ram built on an Asus P6T MB with a Seasonic 650W PS.  I'd like to upgrade the current Graphics card that was fine for Photoshop but not for Premiere Pro which I'm just experimenting with. I'd like to get a better card for it without going crazy because this will not be my main computer.  I never OC'd it either as for Photoshop it seemed fine at the time.
It will be used typically for making under 5 min videos that consist of a around half doz clips each from my Canon 1DM4 in HD 1080.  Not too much in the way of effects currently with unsharp mask, color correction and transitions etc.
The ones I've sort of narrowed down to are the GTX 460 1GB or maybe the GTX 550ti 1 GB might do as well for this use?  I don't like limiting myself if I'd see much of a difference between them.  I'm also totally open to any suggestions for others as well.
As a side note, I'm also in the planning stages for building a new computer from scratch and that will be my main computer that I'll most likely put a better card in during the coming month or two.
While I've built several computers over the years I'm finding this graphics card choice bewildering to say the least!  I hope that's enough info to go on and I greatly appreciate any help as most review sites for cards pertain mostly to gaming.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

I don't know the power needs of my GTX 285 (in a file somewhere) but I wasn't worried 'cause I have an 850 power supply
I do know that the card has 2 power connections... I presume one for the GPU and the other for the onboard fan
Before you think your PS will work... check your total requirments

  • Gtx 550ti MSI 1024mb "no video input" issue

    Hello,
Since I've got my gtx 550 I am really happy with it, but since a few weeks the video card acts strange. I moved 2 weeks ago to another room in our house, and since then its acting strange. When I start up my pc, my display says: no video input. Then it goes into sleep mode. I was using a VGA cable, tried a different one. It worked!
But not for long, the day after I got the same problem. So I went out and bought and DVI cable. It worked also for 2 days and now I have the same problem. I tried 2 different monitors, both say the same thing, even my TV.
Today I put my old graphics card in my pc and it just worked normally. Im very confused...
Does anyone know a way to fix this?
Sorry for the grammar, I'm typing this on my mobile.
    Thanks in advance!

    What is that?
Please list your detailed specs. What should the info on the cooler help us to assist you? Better add the cpu used.
That means nothing. What 650w psu is it? Specs? Model?
Im sorry, but I cant boot up my pc normally. I dont know exactly what build, but it worked perfect. 1 year ago I bought the graphics card and built it in. Nothing else changed since then, I think it has something to do with the graphics card. But Ill try to get more information about my pc

  • Is it posible to unlock GTX 545 DDR5 to GTX 550TI DDR5?

Hi everybody! I had bought this card:
So, how you can see, memory bridge is only 128, rops are 16 and shaders are 144, instead 192/24/192.
I have an idea to burn my card with original bios from msi.com/product/vga/N550GTX-Ti-M2D1GD5.html .
    I have some questions:
    1) Does it have hardware lock? Could i flash another bios?
    2) Does anybody did it?
    3) Any suggestions?

No, that is impossible. Also as I said in your other thread (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165928) you card is an OEM model that is not covered by support here. This forum is only for retail components.

I have a PCI express 16x so it should fit. But I have seen this same GPU on amazon and it says its a PCI express 2.0. so my question is. Will this exact gpu fit in my PCI express 1.0 pc? Maybe here hey just forgot to inform that it is 2.0? thanks!

As long as your power supply and case airflow are sufficient, yes. PCI Express 2.0 refers to the revision of the PCI Express technology and it is backwards compatible with PCI Express 1.0. PCI Express slots are either x1 (smallest) or x4 (small) or x8/x16 (regular size), so you should be fine with your x16 slot unless there is a hardware problem. Research your motherboard and power supply before you buy.

  • Playback is lagging???

I can't seem to get my clips to play real time in Premiere CS5.  It is HD footage shot on a canon T2i 1080x1920 - 24
I tried HDV and AVCHD sequences both at 1080p and it still lags.
Here are my comp specs, but my cpu usage doesn't seem to go above %35 when I playback so I don't think it is my system.  Any ideas?

You really cant build an editing rig for cs5 for under $1k, you may as well not bother. below is some average stuff i priced out and as you can see, it already reaches $1000 without a case, psu, drives or optical drive.

  • Please Help... Photoshop Misbehaving?

Hi guys, I've been a photoshop user for years and have never encountered anything like this in the past.
I was running PS CS6 with no problems for months. Suddenly without any change to the computer that I am aware of, PS will not Open or Create New files. If I try to open or create a new file, the appropriate dialogue opens, but then nothing happens when I accept. No error, no file.
PS will work normally after a fresh reboot for a short random period of time (30mins?) and then will start acting funny again.
If I boot fresh, open a file, hang out for a while (leaving the file open), and then go back to photoshop to continue working, something else strange happens....
If I start drawing a line, after a few moments of continuous drawing, my line will stop, then as soon as I let go of the mouse button, the entire stroke will dissapear as if someone had hit CTRL+Z. At this time, actually hitting CTRL+Z will not bring back the lost stroke. Also, upon closing the document after attempting to edit it, photoshop will not prompt me to save my changes.
I've deleted my PS prefs on startup and also downgraded to Photoshop CS2.
CS2 seems to open and create files on command, however the same problem with not being able to draw persists.
I've scoured the net for solutions... some suggest a problem with default networked printers. I've removed all printers from my OS and hardware. Please help me...

  • Photoshop CS6 Trial, not Extended?

    Hello,
I've tried to download the Photoshop CS6 Extended trial, but it was missing from the download assistant, so I just downloaded the version that was available, the 3D feature was missing, which is one of the only reasons I decided to get the trail for Extended, it's not grayed out, it's just simply not there.
    My PC's specs are:
    Windows 8 Professional 64bit,
CPU is an AMD FX-4100 Quad Core,
    8GB of DDR3 RAM,
My GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550ti,
    What am I doing wrong?

Like JJ said all the PS trials are Extended and 3D is available.  If the option is grayed out it means your video card or driver is not supported.  THe first thing to try is to go to nVidia's website and download the lates driver for your card and OS.
Then in Edit/preferences/performance check "use graphics processor".  May have to look in Advanced Setting and change to Basic if you have problems with advanced.

When i put the grapic card in the system won't start i get a blue screen with the hp logo, and could not get into the boot menu or anything.
Anyone has a solution for me, i'm desperate now.

    Hi,
And the old "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti " only uses 116W, it needs only 400W PSU minimum:
         http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-550ti/specifications
    >> ASUS STRIX-GTX970 this one uses 225W.
Only for the card itself, you have to run OTHER COMPONENTS of your computer. Just make a calculation:
    Your machine has 460W to run a 116W video card, now you uses 225W video card or 225W - 116W = 109W more, you need 460W + 109W or 570W PSU.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • MSI Z77A-G45 and Samsung 840 Series weirdness

    Ok so here's the thing
about a week ago i decided that it was time to build a new computer with a Z77A-G45 motherboard
put it together, installed windows 7 64-bit and everything was working just fine - for about 5 days -
but then one morning when i turned on my computer it decided not to boot and just sat there with fans running with an A2 code at the bottom left of the screen
i tried taking out the ram leaving just 1 in and moving it to different slots and trying a different ram block boots thinking it might be faulty ram,
when that didn't work i tried removing the graphics card and boot with just the onboard VGA, reset the CMOS jumper, and even replaced that battery on the motherboard thinking the shop might have shipped an almost dead one, took everything apart and booted it outside the case on a glass surface to make sure it wasn't some sort of short
but the only time it actually wanted to get past the A2 code was when i booted with only 1 of my hard drives, so  i started changing my drives around using various combinations of SATA cables and ports (luckily had an extra 5 SATA cables lying around)
eventually i narrowed it down to it wanting to boot with 2 of my 3 drives but the 3rd one (a Samsung 840 series 500 GB SSD, that has no system files or anything fancy other then music, movies and a few games at the moment) getting it stuck on the A2 code
so i set it up as an external USB drive with a SATA/USB converter i had sitting around but then it would get stuck on B4 instead if i booted with the drive connected
however everything would work just fine if i connected the drive after the system had booted up (or even just unplugging and replugging it when it got stuck on the B4)
once back in windows with the drive connected i ran all the diagnostics i could think of but nothing showed anything wrong with it
(and the only thing i had done with the drive before it stopped wanting to boot was to defrag it)
eventually i decided to copy all the files from the drive to a different drive and reformat it as sort of a hail-mary
and to my surprise that actually made it boot up just fine
so i moved it back inside the case as a normal drive just to make sure it would still work (which it did) and then moved all the files back to see if any of them were the culprit - that turned out not to be the case however
it booted up without complaint with all the original files on it
so now my question is why?
what the heck is going on?
did defragging cause some sort of data fault that caused the bios to not be able to read the drive properly or did i just buy a haunted computer?
like i said everything is back in the state it was the day before it didn't want to boot and bios and been defaulted so it's not really an issue at the moment but I'd still like to know what's going on so i can hopefully avoid it in the future
any answers or comments will be appreciated

             Samsung 840 Series 500GB SSD (Media/Backup)
    OS: Windows 7 64bit Ultimate

    This is strange
I have Z77A-G43, and have exactly the same problem with one 1GB sata drive, that works just fine in every other PC.
In my case PC run into restart loop, but with same code A2 as yours.
Strangest part was PC was restarting even if I put HDD into PCI Sata/Raid card !?
So I am guessing here its not a hardware problem, but a software (BIOS) problem.
Now whole pc with Z77A-G43 is at Service because of faulty DVI output (not working).
Will try reformating drive, but need first to buy >1gb hdd to backup that one
Drive is currently working just fine in this 10y old MSI PC =.=
It seams they have stopped making things as they used to, this old mb is one durrable dog.

The HDD light does not blink but is on as a static light.. a red light on the front of the case, could just be the power light.. i'm not sure really. I reset the CMOS, I tried it with ONLY 1 ram stick and bare essential hardware(mouse, keyboard, monitor)... still same thing.
    Ideas ?

Well i just went over everything again and noticed the big fan on the Powersupply was not running.... so i'm suspecting a bad power supply. Is it possible for the PS to have fans & lights on, on t he motherboard yet not be bad and not power the system? the case lights up and fans turn on(in case) but the system doesnt boot.
Would this be the powersupply since the Fan on the PS is not on ?
Gonna return it and try a different brand.
Thats where i would start as it seems a power supply problem

  • MSI 970A-G46 only POSTing with jumpers set to clear data.

My PC has this strange problem. On turning it on, the lights come on, the fans start whirring, but there is no video signal...
There are no beeps or anything..
Since this happened right after I installed a new HDD, I took it out..
But even then it did not work!
I tried clearing the CMOS by moving the jumper and it booted up...
But when I again tried with the jumper in the default position it stopped working!
Can any one tell me what's going on here??
    My config:
    MSI 970A-G46 motherboard
    AMD 3.8Ghz FX 4130 CPU
    Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8 GB (CMZ8GX3M1A1600C100)
    Zotac GTX-550Ti 1GB
Corsair VS 450 watt power supply
WD Black 1TB HDD (this is the new one I installed)
I have 2 more HDDs which are ancient. Both of them are from Seagate. One is 20G and the other is 350G. I don't know their model no.

Check your leads from your PSU to your GPU (if it requires same--I'm not conversant with nVidia gpus)--and just for fun, switch it out with its twin.  Reseat the gpu, carefully, etc.  To that end, it looks like your PSU is possibly just barely adequate for your setup.  What's your max amperage on the 12v rail?
But...sounds like a wiring short, somewhere--check all of your connections carefully, make sure there are no screws or washers, etc., loose that are underneath the motherboard and creating a short between mboard and the metal case cover (like accidentally dropping a screw when attaching the hard drive, etc.)
As well--check your jumpers on the HD and make sure those are OK (although I doubt that's the problem--years ago an improperly jumpered hard drive could keep the entre system from booting.  These days that is rarely a problem, though, if ever.)
The fact that your system boots when your CMOS pins are jumpered a certain way--but not in the default position--indicates a short of some kind.  If you find it and correct, you should have no permanent damage, imo.  Good luck!

  • MSI P67A-GD53 - Win 7 x64 PC Cannot Restart when OC Genie turned on

    Hi,
My PC will not reboot from Windows when OC Genie is active on my recently built PC.
The PC will power down, but does not restart again. I have to hold down the power switch to turn of the machine completely and then turn the PC back on manually.
When OC Genie is off, the issue is not present, the PC can restart from Windows as normal.
I'd like to be able to use OC Genie, but this issue makes it too much of a pain. I've read in to ACPI a bit, but it's not obvious to me how OC Genie might interfere with this.
Can I resolve this issue somehow?

Did you get a solution for this? I'm having the same problem. OC Genie seems to break Win7 64.
