GTX 580 AfterBurner OC

Hi guys ! I want to know if i can flash my GC's for having more than 1.150 mV unlock and if i can increase my speed fan to REAL 100% !
Name: MSI N580GTX-MD2D15D5/OC (GeForce GTX 580 1,5 Go)
S/N 1 : 912-V801-1071B1012020643
S/N 2 : 912-V801-1071B1012020644
I want go over 1.150 mV because i would like to water my cg's and if i can pass out 1.150 mV i will get better performance because it can accord to me to increase more my frequencies.
I've tried to Flash with others bios card like EVGA and ASUS and it's work on one and on the second but after reboot in windows just one be detected without problem, i have tried all PCI-Express configuration, many times reinstall drivers with secure procedure but nothings working so i ask my question here !
And Can i buy somewhere Twin Frozor System for my GC's and mount it on them ?
Thanks a lot !

Maybe but it's possible ?
And do you have the bios to overvoltage and make me allowed to increase the fan at 100% ?

yes, should be possible to install 3th party cooler.
your vga is this one right? ==> http://eu.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-M2D15D5-OC.html

  • GTX 580 Twin Frozr II overheating / not cooling

So I've had this Twin Frozr II GTX 580 card for well over a year now and recently it has started to fail alot.
It hits temperatures over 100 °C and ends with a black screen and a forced reboot.
I've blown out all the dust in my PC (monthly routine) and that didn't fix it. Neither did a driver update or BIOS update/flash.
While watching MSI Afterburner I noticed that the card isn't really cooling down during games but once I hit alt-tab and get into windows, the fans really do their job and cool down the card as it should be cooled.
Even while I set the fan speed to 85% manually with afterburner, it doesn't really go to it's full 4k RPM untill after I alt-tab. It usually hovers around 2300 RPM (or a lot less) while I'm playing the game.
Also, it's idle temperature is 43°C, which is kind off high I think.
Offcourse, having to alt tab for 5 minutes after each 10-15 minutes of gameplay is quite ridiculous, not to mention annoying in MMO's.
Anyone encountered the same issue and would know how to fix it? Not sure if I will re-do the thermal paste since that might void my warranty (if it still is under warranty, which I'm not sure off)...

I think what he is saying,
is that his fan speed doesnt ramp up during game play, maxing at or around 85% until he tabs out then it'll hit 100% to cool it off.
That's  a bit odd, and I can only suggest manually setting the gpu via afterburner to 100% before gameing.
Unless I read that all wrong..

  • GTX 580 Twin Frozr II O/C - confused by bios version number, and how to flash

Hi, my first post here. But I've been reading a bit here. Still, I get confused by this whole vga bios thing, version numbers and how to flash... Ok, so here's my situation:
I have two PC's. Both with one MSI Twin Frozr II O/C GTX 580 card inside. It seems to me that both are working according to specifications, GPU-Z reports:
GPU clock 800 Mhz, Memory 1024 Mhz, Shader 1600 Mhz for the borth of them.
Now, one of them seems not to be totally stable (this is the newest I bought a few days ago). It locks up/crashes in some games. The other seems ok, I've been having that one for a while. Could this be a GPU core voltage problem? GPU-Z reports for the both of them:
    VDDC 0.955 v
I've tried running MSI afterburner, changing core voltage to 1025, and in afterburner settings enable "Force constant voltage". Still, GPU-Z, which I keep running at the same time, still reports only 0.955. I thought this setting in Afterburner would change voltage to 1.025?  This situation is for both the old one and the new one.
    Now to the Bios "problem".
The newest card (the not so stable one) reports through GPU-Z: Bios Version 70.10.20.00.01
The oldest (stable) card: Bios Version 70.10.17.00.01
So... which one has the newest bios? Seems to me it is the newest card.
BUT - when running MSI Live Update 5 (newest version) it says for both the cards that they have the the newest bios version, and there's no need to upgrade??
SO - I go to the MSI webpage: http://no.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-Twin-Frozr-II-OC.html#?div=BIOS  to download the newest bios manually, just in case.. But there it gets more confusing. The Bios version found there is :NV255MS.104(.zip).
And also, on that page I can not find how to use that file. Extracting it just gives me the file NV255MS.104    and no extension.
So, which bios is the newest one? 70.10.20.00.01  (the highest number, in the new card, but not stable in some games), 70.10.17.00.01 (in my old card, but seems stable in the games I've tried), or NV255.104  (which I don't know how to use).
I've flashed my main board bios many times over the years in various set ups, the bios on two different SSD disks and so on.. never had a problem with that, or finding out if I have the correct bios, how to do it and so on.
Maybe I'm stupid, but this MSI Twin Frozr II O/C GTX 580 bios thing confuses me a lot... So, how do I solve this situation?

I am also interested in the answer as I have 2 MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC cards. I can find the latest BIOS file "NV801MS.KG4.zip" and know the version is "KG4". But how do you relate this to the current BIOS version Afterburner or GPU-Z provides? The version they each provide is "70.10.17.00.01" for both cards. The only other way to determine if they are up to date is to install and run MSI Live Update. MSI Live Update responds that they are up to date with no current version or online version information on the Live Update tab. At least the information on the Home tab states the same VGA BIOS version as GPU-Z and Afterburner. I can can only assume that the BIOS is updated by using MSI Live Update.
Also just for the additional information GPU-Z displays my VDDC as 1.039 briefly then 0.995 constantly when switching between cards. I actually have the cards set to 1.050 with Afterburner to be stable when running Crysis 2 DX11 updates.

Hi - About 95 degrees. Is that hot?
Yes it is, do you have a good ventilation and enough and proper airflow inside your PC case?
Have you tried to open the side door of the PC case?
Is your FAN on the VGA is at Auto?
Can you make a photo of your card?

  • Lightening XE gtx 580 BIOS

I own 2x MSI lightening 3gb xe running at stock everything
I notice that following the latest bout of Nvidia drivers many users are reporting 'hardware' issues, and in response it seems like some vendors eg EVGA have issued a vbios update to slightly boost the GPU vcore from 1.000 to 1.025 or 50 mV to increase stability.
One would suspect if its necessary for those gtx 580s it would be necessary for ours too. I know afterburner can do this at startup, but it would be nice to formalise it in a vbios update so i dont always have to run afterburner in my system tray.
Is there a bios update planned for our cards?
    I am currently running 70.10.48.00

  • GTX 580 OC Help Needed (N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC) | SPLIT [Twin Frozr II OC]

    Hello Svet !
One month ago, I bought two N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC. One was OK, the other one had stock frequencies. Made an exchange. The third card was the same : stock frequencies, and unstable with correct OC BIOS, even with adjusting the voltage.
So, i returned the two M2D15D5/OC and got two N580GTX Twin Frozr II OC. Frequencies are OK now (core clock @822,shader clock @1645, memory clock @2138), but one card is crashing my computer when I play (I'm in SLI). But everything is OK in OCCT for example.
So I decided to check the voltages with AfterBurner.
One card is at 1,025V and the other one, the faulty one is at 1,000V.
So I tested with AfterBurner to put it at 1,025, and now, everything looks stable.
Could it be possible to have a new BIOS with the correct voltage? Because I've been following this thread since the beginning, and I understood that it can be corrected with BIOS update (by the way, I compared the 2 backuped BIOS of my cards, and they are the same... that's what I don't understand... is voltage really written in BIOS ?)
So here it is a summary of my needs :
        core voltage @ 1025
        core clock @822
        shader clock @1645
        memory clock @2138

MSI is following my steps, it will do the same as your current installed VBIOS vcore boost from 1V to 1025mV.
If you flash the newest MSI's VBIOS it will bring you nothing more than your current custom one,
but opposite you will lost extra performance.

I found a bug that crashes the nvidia drivers when running the factory overclocked msi gtx 580's in SLI. I downclocked them to reference 772,1544,2004 and found the game runs perfectly for long periods without crashing.

I tested the first card I purchased the non stickered one, and running at factory overclock it crashed the driver about 20 minutes of gameplay.
What I did differently this time was I removed the Stickered card from the PCIE slot.
Wow amazing I didn't think it could be a single cards fault. I'll continue testing the stickered one too. What I did find strange was this non stickered card core values show 822 in MSI Afterburner and 823 in GPUZ.
What you mean by "stickered" and "non stickered" card?

  • New GTX - 580 twin frozr Problem

Hi guys, new to this forum.... Its a good one, plenty of experts, thats what makes a forum good
I built a new machine for Battlefield 3 in November. I ordered this:
MSI GeForce GTX 580 OC Twin FrozR II 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [V255-040
From the start I've been getting the black screen crash, minimise with sound still continuing in the background (not sound loop error) crash and the odd "display driver has crashed and recovered" crash.
I've done all the usual stuff, formats, reinstalls, new sound cards, drivers etc, I've never tried the update gpu bios trick, would it work here? I have it at stock, even on afterburner as i dont know the overclocking settings to try. Or the max i can use. Some say i should increase the voltage?
    Any thoughts?
thanks guys. 6months at it now :O

ok setting the voltage to 1038 helped a bit. but it crashed again today. going to try the other voltage.
I just noticed that bench testing with fumark, it said that my card was being throttled. And the temp wont rise above 52 - 53 degrees celcius. The minute the game crashed the temp was 53 degrees. Is there something stopping the gpu performing? System is well air cooled. and i've manually ramped up the fan speed. Any thoughts?
    what vga drivers you use?

    Hi all,
I have 2 x gtx 580 twin frozr OC 800/1600 version cards running in SLI with 270.51 drivers,  idle for GPU1  37-43, idle for GPU2 is 34-40, i have an Antec 1200 case which provides good cooling and also using a side door fan to blow cool air in too, i have raised my voltage in afterburner to 1050 and everthing seems stable
my question is that with vsynch on i get GPU1 max about 75-78 degrees which seems fine as i know and accept that GPU1 in SLI will run hotter (my cards are close togeather on x58 sabertooth) and GPU2 is in the 60`s
but when i switch vsynch off my GPU1 hits high 80`s and up to 93, i have noticed in BFBC2, why is vsynch having such an effect on GPU1? temps, just seems strange that vsynch has such an effect on GPU1 considering i have very average idle temps etc
if my cards are stable is it worth updating the bios? will this help the temps
    cheers
    gamon

No, it should blow fresh air for the graphics' and processor fans to consume and then pass on to a very good exhaust fan, that removes it. - Somewhat like a car engine works. With a side-door fan you normally don't need intake fans, but start by reducing their speed, before removing them.
Plenty of space, 50 - 100 cm, around the case?
