  • MSI GTX 670 completely freezes please help

Hi. I posted my problem on the nvidia forums and they suggested I RMA my graphics card and get it replaced... I thought I would post it here to see if anyone could help me...
This issue has started about a few days ago and it has been bugging me because I can't play any pc games for longer than about a minute. Anyway, so the problem is, after about 10 seconds of playing any pc game(I'm using the game minecraft as an example) my computer COMPLETELY freezes and blue squares appear. There is nothing I can do other than switch off the power. Even my mouse pointer freezes. I don't think it's an 'overheating' problem because I let it cool down for 24 hours and the problem persists.
I took a picture with my iphone to show
As you can see, the blue squares appear and EVERYTHING is frozen... Even if i'm not playing a game, sometimes on occasions my screen goes black and comes back and says "display driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered". But the main issue is that I can't play games or even watch youtube videos for longer than 10 seconds...
    I have a MSI GTX 670 and I have the 306.97 driver.
I have tried countless 'fixes' (for example, setting power management to prefer maximum performance in nvidia control panel) and others too..
Any replies will be GREATLY appreciated, thankyou

    brand, model PSU?

I don't have another computer to test it in..
then you can RMA it and if the problem is not in the card the problem will persist.

  • Three displays with GTX 670 -- duplicating desktop problem

Just got a new computer with an Asus GTX 670 card.   I am running 3 displays:  1. (Main) Dell U2412M via DVI port,   2.  Old Samsung LCD monitor via DVI port with VGA adapter,  3. Samsung 59" plasma TV via HDMI port.  I am trying to duplicate the desktop on my TV, but the card will only allow me to extend the desktop to the TV.  TV goes blank when I try to duplicate the desktop.  I am able to duplicate the desktop on the TV when my third monitor is not connected.  My old Samsung monitor displays an extended desktop which is what I want.
If anyone has figured out the workings of this new card, I'd like to know if it is possible to duplicate the desktop on my TV with my setup.   Thanks

Yes, as I mentioned in my post, the GTX will extend the desktop to all 3 displays, that is, I can move a window from the main monitor to either of the other two displays.  I am trying to duplicate the desktop on my main monitor to the TV so they show exactly the same thing, as one would do in a presentation with a projector.   This is possible if I don't use a third monitor.

  • New GeForce GTX 670 vs Quadro FX 4800

Had some computer failures, at first I thought my Quadro FX 4800 was dying... but it appears Im going to have to replace my motherboard. horay.
In trouble shooting I bought a GTX 670. (changed the txt file to make it work with Mercury) and now that I need to replace the mobo, I have a feeling the 4800 is ok.
So the question is... if the 4800 is fine... is there a significant jump in performance with the GTX 670? Is it worth the $400

    Nick,
I'm late to this thread; just read it for the first time, and I have several observations to share...
    1) I tend to agree with Harm and and RjL regarding the GTX being quite a bit stronger; so in your system where this is not evidenced, possibly the video card it is not the "critical path" (or bottleneck) for whatever you are doing (playback, render, etc.). Running Harm and Bill's excellent PPBM5 benchmark can tell you a lot about how the various areas of your system perform and the 800+ system database shows what others are getting from their listed hardware.
    2) Premiere Pro is pretty good at taxing all of a PCs resources and "balance" of components is important in order to eek out the best overall performance. I would quickly add another RAID 0 pair to this system if I were you. You can test this theory too by looking at the performance tab in Windows task manager and see if your cpus (all 4 cores and 4 hyperthread cores) are working pretty hard. If they never all running at or very close to 100%, then you have gains to be made by either tweaking the system and/or revising components in your build.
    3) You may not even have a motherboard problem; buy or borrow a highy rated 850w or larger power supply and see if that does not clear up whatever woes you are blaming your motherboard on; 650 may not be enough for rendering RED!
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Four displays on one GTX 670 graphics card

For anyone needing or wanting four displays driven by one card, I just successfully hooked up my fourth display to an Asus GTX 670.  I needed a Displayport to DVI adapter for my fourth display.  The HDMI port is connected to a Plasma TV, but I'm sure I could have hooked up another monitor instead if I wanted.
By the way, I was concerned about using a long (50 feet) HDMI cable to the TV, but it works great.   In reply to an earlier poster, I could edit on the plasma TV if needed, but I'm only using it for display.   In my opinion, an HDMI cable is the ultimate method for getting content from a computer and/or internet to a TV.

The HDMi 1.4 cables that are heavily shielded are exactly what you want for that kind of cable run. I have a setup at my Father in Law's house with 50 Foot HDMI 1.4 cable and it runs great. It's also what I recommend to our clients since that is really far outside of DVI or Displayport's spec.

  • Using a GTX 670 with Premiere Pro CC

This is a similar question to one that's been asked many times before, pertaining to earlier versions of Premiere.
With CS6, some cards not on the supported list could be added via a "hack". Can a similar modification be made for Premiere Pro CC ? And if so, how and where ?
Something related to Premiere- I also wonder if Speedgrade can support my GTX 670.

After some searching around, I found this page from Adobe  > http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2013/06/adobe-premiere-pro-cc-and-gpu-support.html
According to that page, selecting non certified cards now only requires a simple change in the project settings.

  • Trouble with GPU Acceleration in Premiere Pro CS6 (GTX 670)

I recently bought a new GTX 670 with the hopes that it would accelerate my video editing in Premiere. After using the "nVidia hack" to add it to the list of CUDA supported cards, I started up Premiere, enabled GPU acceleration in the general project preferences window, and was disappointed to find that my performance appeared to be identical to what I had experienced with my non compatible HD 6870s.
When I checked with MSI Afterburner, my GPU usage remained around 0%, even when playing through videos. I'm quite certain that my card was successfully added to the list, so I have no idea what's going on.
Is there any chance that I am misunderstanding what GPU acceleration is supposed to do? I'm very new to Premiere, so I don't know too much about it yet. The reason I bought my new card, aside from improved performance in 3D games, was to allow me to scrub through my project (comprised of 1080p AVI videos captured with FRAPS) without hiccups and poor FPS. Was this not a reasonable expectation for GPU rendering?
Here's a short list of my PC's specs if it's any help:
-Intel i5 2500k (currently not overclocked)
    -8GB DDR3 Dual Channel RAM (at 1600MHz)
    -1TB 7200RPM HDD
-nVidia GTX 670 OC 2GB VRAM
    -Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Motherboard
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Did you go to project>project settings>general and verify that GPU (cuda) accleration is enabled? If it's set to software only then change it and see if that helps. If it's enabled my next question is what is the bitrate of your FRAPS videos? Because I have seen some fraps video's with bit-rates that are really high which would require a RAID array that is only holding video clips to playback smoothly. In your case it appears you have your OS and your apps and your footage all playing from the same 7200rpm drive. Which isn't really sufficent for 1080p editing. However it might be as simple as enabling it from within premiere pro like I mention earlier. If it's enabled though please check the bit-rate of your video you're attempting to edit with because I'm assuming that might be the issue.

  • MOVED: Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. MSI GTX 670 Power Edition

This topic has been moved to Graphics Cards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251843.0

    Hey there,
Noticed that my BIOS drivers were outdated so i updated them (Z68A-GD65 G3, version: 25.8), after all the reboots i logged on my computer, started teamspeak, and while searching for the teamspeak room the driver problem happened again.
Anyway, my power supply is NOX Hummer 80 600W, model: HUM80600.
The problems started on September of this year i think? I've had this computer for almost 3 years now. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, and this still happens, i've tried downgrading, fresh installing, and nothing worked.
    Graphics card: MSI GTX 670 Power Edition 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 DirectX11, S/N: 602-V284-02SB1207063830.
I'll try it tommorow if possible.
    Thank you for the attention.

  • GTX 670 in Mac Pro 5.1

    Hey guys,
I am using the 8c 5,1 Mac pro with the standard 5770 installed. I am an high end user but I do not want to spend the buck on a Quadro.
I want an GTX 670 in my Mac pro, can someone tell me what I need and what I need to do?
    some more info:
-Don't need the Bootscreen, I can use bootchamp
    -I run 10.8 ML
-I have the 27" ACD mdp
-no experience upgrading a gpu in a Mac pro, however I do on a regular gaming rig.
can you guys help? I think that many more would like to know the awnser because these GPU's are just outdated now.      *thx Apple -.-*
    -Sam

Hi sam, i just bought msi gtx 670 for my mac pro 8 core 2010 model. you can use this graphics inside but only for windows only, i think there is some solution to run on mac, but i dont care as for now because im not using mac all the time. my only problem is my fan in my mac cannot control, not unlike the hd 5870. so i feel a bit of heat on my mac but still my processor on idle still not going above 50%, almost 44 to 48 on idle. also about the card you should buy the 2x6 pins because some of the graphics card have 2x8 pins. but everything i can run in ultra like battlefield 3, medal of honor. the fps is around 50-90 on campaign & for the multiplayer its around 50-70. still need to check my graphics card because i just bought it last sunday.

  • Can I get my GTX 670 card to be compatible with Prem Pro CC and Speedgrade cc on my windows machine?

Can I get my GTX 670 card to be compatible with Prem Pro CC and Speedgrade cc on my windows machine?

No need to hack anything in CC:
"(...) This is no longer necessary in Premiere Pro CC. As long as you have a reasonably modern card with at least 1GB of VRAM, you will still be able to enable that card in the Project Settings dialog. A warning message will appear letting you know that your card has not been certified by Adobe, but once that dialog is clicked through you can use your GPU."
    See details here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2013/06/adobe-premiere-pro-cc-and-gpu-support.html
AFAIK SpeedGrade uses CUDA and/or OpenCL depending on availability, so no type or model white-list, with this one limitation only for Direct Link on Mac: only NVIDIA OpenCL is supported (NVIDIA CUDA and AMD OpenCL are not currently available with Direct Link on the Mac platform).

MSI GTX 670 Twin Frozr fan seems to make a fast clicking noise when not under load or cold.  Have to start up something that's graphics intensive to get it to stop.  This clicking noise starts a few seconds after dust off.  Anything that I can do from here?  Still under warranty.

  • Incredibly terrible overclocks with MSI GTX 670 PE/OC

Been using my GTX 670 PE/OC for about a month now. Since the card was supposedly made with overclocking in mind, I decided to give overclocking a try. To my astonishment, the card is perhaps the worst card I've ever had for overclocking. Using MSI afterburner with voltage turned all the way up and power limit at 114%, I could barely overclock to +20 on the core and +600 on the memory. Even at that overclock, BF3 is crashing all the time, especially when I'm doing well. Its incredibly frustrating. The only reason on got the Power Edition from MSI was because it was supposedly designed with overclocking in mind. Had I known it would be so terrible at overclocking, I wouldn't have gotten it. Am I overclocking this card wrong or is this card a dud?

Overclocking is a matter of the individual sample. One might clock great while another of the same model won't. A great board design is useless if the gpu is just a bad draw. The memory doing + 600 Mhz is an absoluely astonishing clockrate only very few GTX670 or 680s would make.
Note that overvolting the GPU is locked due to Nvidia forcing MSI to and any set voltage will result in no more than 1.175v unless you have an unlocked vbios and the right Afterburner version (2.2.3 or 2.2.5 beta 1). Please read >>How to use MSI Afterburner<<

  • No display on GTX 670 PE

I recently bought a MSI 670 to replace my HD 7850, but after installing the 670 I am getting NO display from my card while in the  x16 pcie socket.  I works in the x8 socket and also in a x16 on a older AMD computer.
I have tried everything I can think of, including updating to the latest uefi bios, but still no display.  The fans boot up on the graphics card and there are no error beeps, but the card does not seem to be recognized and the on-board graphics kick in.
I have checked both pcie power plugs and both are fine.  Memory is seated okay and passed mem-test, no bent pins on CPU

    yes it should works fine

  • K450 upgrading to GTX 670

    I have a K450 which came with a GTX 650 installed. I have a GTX 670 which I'd rather use.
To get around the K450's weak PSU, I installed a FSP Booster X5 (which is a secondary PSU which fits in the 5.25 bay and provides additional PCI-e plugs). The secondary PSU works fine- I'm even using it now for the original GTX 650.
However, when I plug in my GTX 670, things go awry. The system powers on, and boots. The new GTX 670's fan runs, and it appears to be fine.
However, there's no display. Not during boot, not once the OS has booted. No BIOS, no post, nothing. I literally get no signal. Switching to onboard video doesn't work either. I can select in BIOS to only use onboard graphics, but as soon as I put in the GTX 670, even the onboard doesn't display.
I'm wondering if there may be some incompatibility in the BIOS with this GPU, or if a BIOS upgrade is even possible. I've read online that the default K450 supports up to GTX 660s, but I assumed that was a limitation of the PSU and not something else. Since the PSU isn't the issue here, I'm a t a loss what to try next.

The power supply works but the only card recognized by the bios is the gt 650
    Did you ever resolve this?
I had reason to believe my 670 was bad, so I put my tests on hold until I could afford another. But getting another wont help, I'd rather not spend the money.
It would really too bad if the 650 is the *only* card you can use on this box...
