GTX 670 Power Edition gives no video signal

Hoping somebody can help here. I've had a long string of problems which seemed graphics card related. Initially, the problem that Windows would reboot with no error message or warning of any kind about a minute after logging in. No problems in safe mode nor any problem if I set Windows to start in Diagnostic Mode. Advice at the time suggested doing a system repair from my installation CD but didn't have time to do this before going on holiday. On return, the problem had deteriorated (or a new problem appeared) - there was no video signal, not even the BIOS screen.
At this time my graphics card was an NVidia GTX 580, motherboard a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, I-7 950 CPU, 850W XFX PSU.
I ran through a host of tests to eliminate possible causes:
1. Tried the card in all PCI_E slots but still no video.
2. Tried another card (NVidia Quadro) in all PCI-E slots, system booted successfully with video and could login to Windows (difference here is the Quadro is powered directly from the motherboard).
3. Tried a number of DVI cables with both cards, the Quadro worked with all of them the 570 stubbornly refused to give a video signal.
Decided the problem was either the PSU or the GTX 580. Returned the latter under warranty and purchased the MSI GTX 570 PE. Installed this and again no video signal but ran through the above tests again with exactly the same results. However could now test the 570 on another system (could not try this with the 680 as PSU on my other system only had 2 6-pin PCI-E connections and the 580 required an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connection). The 570 at least produced the BIOS screen, booted Linux and presented a login screen. Didn't login as the PSU on this system was probably on the marginal side for wattage.
Decided then that I had a strange PSU problem. It could power my PC with the Quadro, suggesting motherboard, CPU, RAM and disks were all OK but could not provide sufficient power for either the 580 or the 670 cards. Bought a new 850W PSU and have just installed this with the 670 card in and yet again I get no video signal. I am now stumped as to what the problem can be so would welcome any suggestions as to what may be wrong and/or what else I can try.
Thanks,
George

then you should contact mainboard vendor about it as problem is not in the VGA.
I had given what I thought was sufficient information about the PC spec in my first post. Both what I started with and what I'd changed. But I'll give the full spec here:
Motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0
CPU: Intel I-7 950 3.06 GHz
Memory: 3x4GB Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64
Disks: Samsung 64GB SSD SATA System disk
WD 1TB and 500GB SATA drives
PSU: Coolermaster RS-850-SPHA-D3 80+ Gold - 3.3V:22A, 5V:25A, 12V:70A single 12V rail
GPU: MSI GTX 670 2GB OC Power Edition
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
The changes were the PSU and the GPU. The problem started when I had an XFX Black Edition 80+ Bronze PSU and a Gigabyte GTX 580 GPU otherwise the rest of the spec was and has remained the same. With my original spec, it ran perfectly happily for almost 2 years but then started with the system rebooting without warning about a minute after login (it would stay at the login screen indefinitely). After running some tests the clues seemed to point to the GPU configuration having been corrupted in some way (from sfc logs). However, if I set Windows to Selective startup, I could login and the system would stay up. I decided to do a system repair from my Windows 7 installation disk but had to postpone this for a couple of weeks during which time the PC was powered off.
When I next powered up the system, there was no video signal at any time. The investigation I did made me think either the GPU was faulty or there was a PSU problem - all other aspects of the system could be shown to work. I returned the GTX580 as it was under warranty and purchased the GTX670 with the refund. This exhibited the same symptoms as the 580 - no video signal no matter how long I left the system running. I was able to test the 670 in another system and it worked there. I couldn't run this test with the 680 as the PSU did not have an 8-pin PCI-E connector - just 2 6-pin connectors.
I then added an NVidia Quadro card alongside the 670 and booted the system with this as the display GPU. This gave me a video signal at all times and more importantly allowed me to get into Windows and check if it recognised the 670 in Device manager. It did but reported a problem as, until now, I hadn't been able to load the 670 driver. I did this and rebooted - again no video signal during post and initial Windows boot but I did get video as soon as the newly installed driver was loaded. This is the state I'm in now other than I've flashed the vbios as suggested and the GPU no longer works on my other PC.
Note, I can happily remove the Quadro and boot the system with just the 670, except I don't get any video signal until Windows has loaded the 670 driver - the monitor light stays stubbornly orange till that point. After that, everything seems to be fine - I don't get the reboots that this problem started with. The only other clue I have is with my original spec I always had a problem from shortly after building it where I would need to power cycle the system most times as I could not wake it from hibernate mode.
I'm hoping this helps as I know I have run out of ideas of things to do. The only thing I have left to try is update the motherboard BIOS.

  • MSI GTX 670 Power Edition/OC max temperature?

I've had a MSI GTX 670 Power Edition/OC working great since October 2012, no problems even with the most demanding games.
But now the summer heat has come (it's 40°C in the shade) and I've been getting crashes (classic TDR, no video signal, windows reboots) when the temperature of the GPU gets to about 80°C. If I leave the case open, it never reaches that temperature and works great.
I can't find the temperature specs for this card, but the reference GTX 670 should run up to 97°C.
Is this normal? What is your maximum stable temperature?
    P.S. I don't overclock, anything.
    Thank you

    Hi there,
the only think I could suggest is that ...
1st. do you have adequate cooling in your system..i.e. case fans etc, etc, and to ensure theres no obstruction to cooling fan on  vga card, always an alternative is to install what they call an exhaust blower fan place that directly underneath your card  and that will extract heat away, I had the same issue with my MSI 6570 card and as soon as I added an exhaust blower mine runs at 33oC and i'm pushing my card to the extreme and temp still stays the same... if that fail then your gpu cooling issnt running fast enough to supply adequate cool air...
I hope that will help you

    Hey there,
Noticed that my BIOS drivers were outdated so i updated them (Z68A-GD65 G3, version: 25.8), after all the reboots i logged on my computer, started teamspeak, and while searching for the teamspeak room the driver problem happened again.
Anyway, my power supply is NOX Hummer 80 600W, model: HUM80600.
The problems started on September of this year i think? I've had this computer for almost 3 years now. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, and this still happens, i've tried downgrading, fresh installing, and nothing worked.
    Graphics card: MSI GTX 670 Power Edition 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 DirectX11, S/N: 602-V284-02SB1207063830.
I'll try it tommorow if possible.
    Thank you for the attention.

  • GTX 670 Power Edition OC versions ?

    Hello.
Today I've got a question about the MSI GTX 670 Power Edition OC graphics card.
I'm about to buy this card but I've found that there are two version of it: MSI GTX 670 PE/OC and MSI GTX 670 PE/OC G ( notice a "G" at the end ).
The question is, what that "G" in the model name means, what are the differences ?

I mean, I was wondering if going with Radeon 7970 wouldn't be a better idea
But I'm not sure of Radeons.
depends on your plans to use the card for! some games like Far Cry 3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, Medal of Honor Warfighter , dragon age and some more respond better to AMD cards while alot of others are more geared towards Nvidia ones!
so what do you plan to do with your graphics card? generally Nvidia ones are better all round but it depends on what your doing with them to which way is better!

  • MSI 670 POWER EDITION SLI HELP!

Okay so i recently bought another MSI 670 Power Edition card. I loved my original and wanted a bit of a performance boost.
    I run a MSI Z68 GD80 G3 mobo with i7 2600K. 16GB of Corsair Vengeance memory.
So after a few days of testing i get about 10-20fps increase in certain games. Now after comparing my PC to other Computers with similar specs and my cards are faster than theres.
I am not getting that much of an improvement as i should.
On unigine Valley "Everything max at 1920x1080" i get a score of 2333 thats with both cards. To me that seems rather low or am i being silly. Also i was watching a video of a guy running the Metro Last Light benchmark and he was hitting over double what i had in terms of FPS.
Then i read that it could be because i have a sandy bridge and it doesn't utilize PCI.E 3 correctly. Any help would be awesome THANKS :D

As flobelix stated before, you are limited to PCI-E 2.0 because of your Sandy CPU.
Talking about bandwidth, SLI with PCI-E 2.0 x8-x8 is the equivalent of PCI-E 3.0 x4-x4.
Not very good, but not very bad either.

    Your scores are ok.
With a better CPU (i7 3770K), the scores are around 2200 (single) and 3000 (SLI).
Those with higher scores have overclocked GPUs (and CPUs).
Tomb Raider is one of those few games with great SLI scaling (most of the games are not).
As you can see, you get a 70-75% boost in this game.

As you have probably read in the title, I seem to get a low score on 3dmark11, considering that this is a fairly new system (2weeks old ) I don't think that my system is bottlenecking my 570:

I've also seen that my frame rate is fairly low (18-24 fps) in 3dmark 11
And ~23 fps(according to fraps) in crysis warhead with enthusiast settings with 16xAA (according to fraps) <-- I also saw some artifacts on maybe 1/2 tree's throughout the game: White dots all over it, if you want me to post a screenshot just say so and I'll go load my save game and upload the pic

  • Z87-G41 gives no video signal; no POST code

    Hello.
I finished putting together my third build yesterday using a Z87-G41 and have run into a problem I've never experienced and haven't been able to find a solution online yet.
    My problem:
With all components plugged into the motherboard/power (no GPU), I do not receive a video signal. I have tried both the VGA and DVI slots. I have tried multiple monitors. I have also tried using my GPU just to see. Same result all around.
In an attempt to get a POST code, I took everything out and started the process of elimination. The only code I get is bad/no RAM when none is plugged in. It of course ceases when I put it back in. I have tried multiple brands. All RAM is DDR3.
I will add that all components are out-of-the-box new except for my RAM/PSU, but they are also relatively new. I have tried another PSU just to see; same issue.
I have checked the CPU socket for bent/missing pins, but everything looks fine. I'm no expert, though.
I'd appreciate any help on this issue. Like I said, I've found info on this issue online, but all the solutions are really obvious stuff (using the wrong video port, etc.). No solution for me yet.
    Thanks.

  • [Solved] A75A-G35 gives no video signal over HDMI, resolution over DVI limited

    Hello community,
following problem: I have been using my A75A-G35 board with an A4-3400 Llano APU, the APU has been connected to a 19" BenQ FP91GP monitor via a DVI cable. I got its maximum resolution of 1280x1024 with no issues.
Now I have purchased a 24" Dell U2415 monitor with a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 and wanted to connect it to my computer. However, I got stuck:
    1. I get no signal whatsoever using the HDMI output and a HDMI>HDMI cable. I have tested a different computer and connected it to the Dell with the same cable successfully, so the cable and the monitor should be fine.
edit: Disregard the following as the problem with the DVI cable appears also with the other computer. The problem is therefore just the fact that the HDMI output of the board doesn't work!
    2. I get a signal with a DVI>DVI cable + DVI>HDMI adapter. I can access the BIOS, the boot manager and see the boot screen, however once the desktop should be displayed the screens turns black and the monitor keeps switching to standby and back on again, the screen staying black all the time, however. But before installing the driver package (for chipset and video, downloaded from the MSI website), I could see the desktop with a resolution of 800x600. Also, if I boot into safe mode, I can see the desktop and increase the resolution up to 1280x1024. Higher resolutions up to 1600x1200 are available, however selecting any of them results in severe screen flickering.
    3. If I boot my Linux install, I have almost the same behaviour. I see the boot messages but then the screen turns black when the desktop should appear. However, if I connect the old BenQ monitor to the VGA port, I get a signal on both screens, however both screens have the resolution 1280x1024 and I cannot increase the resolution of the Dell, because if I try to, the screen turns black again. Lower resolutions than 1280x1024 are possible, though. Note that the "second monitor trick" does only work with Linux, with Windows I get only a black screen on both monitors.
As a side note, the DVI cable I'm using is a DVI-D single link, so the maximum resolution it supports is actually exactly the resolution of the Dell, 1920x1200.
    Thanks for any hint,
    Photon

    your welcome!
when you said your problem and the symptoms I thought that board sounded familiar as alot of people when it first came out that we had to explain that to them so I had a look and yes it had the jumpers to switch ports for its digital display display signal to be routed to another port so i thought that was the cause!
have fun with your board now you have it in HDMI mode!

  • MSI 670 Power Edition -- need to disable the Dust Removal

I just bought a 670 PE and I wish to disable the dust removal because, having a filtered case that's quite free of dust, it is of no benefit to me and only an annoyance (my system is very quiet, having the fan spin that loud is ridiculous).
It sounds like in the past there was a BIOS on the German website that did this, but I no longer see it there (I tried the one that is listed in the BIOS section there and it does nothing different).
Does anyone happen to have that particular BIOS? Very surprised that MSI does not officially provide this.
Also while I'm at it, has anyone solved the issue with these cards throttling when overclocked? Changing the power limit seems to do nothing. I'm pretty sure it's a BIOS issue.

  • MSI TwinFrozr III GTX 570 Power Edition - Modded Bios

    Hi Guys
I am new to this site and this may have been posted but i was unable to find it after searching.
But is there any way to mod the bios of these cards to unlock the voltage further as the limit is 1.137mV in Afterburner
I can pump nice scores in the  3D Mark 11
    http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1394544
but my other Brand card can run slightly higher voltage and can produce a better scores because i can run 1.150mV
    http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1394620
I believe this beast of a card can go further with a modded/unlocked bios and push my scores even higher because the temps on this card remain under 60 Degrees Celsius @ 970/1940/2400 @ 1.137mV (I do run my fan @ 100% speed through my benching at all times to keep temps to the extreme lows)
Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

Thanks a whole heap works like a charm - I am so impressed I will be recommending MSI cards/products from now on to anyone who is anyone.
HWBOT world record for GTX 570 is not outta reach now for me now im only short 74 points - WR holder is running 5.6Ghz too im only on 5.05Ghz.
BTW just to let you know running 1212mv with fans 100% i only hit 62 degrees Celsius (ambient air temp 20 degrees), with the help of a Scythe Kaze 3000rpm (134CFM) with airflow directly over the top and bottom the card. Highly recommend a Fan of this caliber to anyone who benches on air. Will post a pic of my setup for anyone interested in having a look very soon.
My other brand card is getting into the low 80s and is running lower voltage (1150). This is why I will recommend MSI to everyone now. MSI claims that the Twin Frozr III runs 18 degrees cooler, well this is 100% in check and I have tested this over another non-reference which I believe has very good cooling itself.
After sales support is 10/10, you just don't get this anymore from other companies.
SVET big thanks again for your effort.

  • MSI Afterburner 2.2.4 - Voltage oc nerf for GTX 670 PE / GTX 680 Lightning

Looks like Nvidia has given MSI a bashing for allowing voltage adjustments with these cards.
Disappointing as the actual box states:

Yet another new version just released:
    http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm#
    MSI Afterburner Version 2.2.4 (2012/9/18)
    -    Added new graphics cards support
    -    Change the NVIDIA Kepler series voltage control mode
And it's the 2nd item that is maybe of interest to those of us with Kepler based GPU's! Basically the GPU core voltage has been now locked for all cards (including the 680 Lightening and the 670 PE) to 1.175v. This by all accounts was by the direction of Nvidia/MSI themselves.
Suggested reading is the last few posts on this thread at Guru3D (post #67 onwards):
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=364858
    One quote from Unwinder:
it will be standard 1175mV, similar to all other 680 on the market. Advanced core voltage control of Lightning will be totally disabled, so it won't be different comparing to any other 680.
Though there are still two ways round this.
    1) Continue to use version 2.2.3
    2) Use 2.2.4 (or later when it becomes available) but use the work around that Unwinder gives in a later post.
Looks like Nvidia is continuing to put the pressure on to prevent any sort of meaningful voltage adjustment.

Sadly Nvidia really dictated this cut down. MSI had to follow. I keep on using 2.2.3 which keeps everything as it should. Poor 660ti users have no choice as only 2.2.4 supports this model. Right now there is no workaround for that gpu.
It's a shame really, I already have a GTX 670 that does 1340/7406, but on Thursday I decided to buy the MSI GTX 670 OC PE, having read this:
Quote from: HardwareCanucks - MSI GTX 670 Power Edition OC Review
MSI’s cards have continually impressed us with their willingness to overclock to impressive levels. With a bit of coaxing via MSI’s AfterBurner software to maximize the Power Limit and add 100mV to the core and memory voltage (PLL was also increased by 50mV) the GPU hit an impressive 1388MHz while the memory petered out at 6524MHz. Both of those clock speeds are personal bests but we have a feeling like there’s more in the tank should MSI decide to release a GTX 670 Lightning.
For those of you wondering, at these speeds, the actual Boost clock we typically observed in games was between 1450MHz and 1465MHz.

I got my MSI GTX 670 OC PE on Friday, will see what it can do tomorrow, even at factory clocks it should be on par with a reference GTX 680, I only game at 1920x1200 anyway, so it will be great.
