GTX 760 black screens

I bought my 760 2Gb about 2 weeks ago and have been running it stock with no overclocks and it has been running great up until 2 days ago when i randomly started getting a black screen and audio stutter for a second, causing me to restart. After restarting, everything was fine until it happened again the next day. So I did a full wipe and clean install of win7 64bit and got all the up to date drivers but it happened a third time after that and I have done some research and have seen many other people having this same problem with 760-770's. One person pointed out that Nvidia "TDR" could be the problem and i was wondering if there is a fix or if i should rma?
OS: win7 64 OEM
MB: ASUS 990fx
BIOS: V 2.7
CPU: AMD 4100 3.6GHz

PSU: Apevia 680W
GPU: MSI GTX 760 2Gb twin frozr
CPU COOLER: Antec H2o Kuhler 920
HDD: WD blue 750Gb

i have done a few things that might have fixed it and haven't tried to underclock the ram and i do need to update the bios, what i posted was the SMBIOS version, but it hasn't happened again and i think windows auto update might have been the problem. also updated from 344.11 to 344.48 and that might have fixed it

Well both seem to be a problem of outdated motherboard. Sandybridge/Ivy are quite old and even there's a chance of working, they need latest BIOS (motherboard). Contact ASUS, since your BIOS version doesn't tell me much (I've no idea how ASUS boards work). If it's the latest, then issue is just outdated motherboard in my opinion. GTX 670 is before 7 and 9 series, so around 2-3 years? Tech is changing, and sadly if you want highest end things, you need to upgrade once per 2 years.
I agreeon what you are saying, but i cannot figure out why if i just wait i have my system fully working and with great performance as expected from a gtx 970

  • GTX 660M black screen after installing driver, maybe a BIOS problem

    Hello,
I own a custom PowerPro 11-36 laptop based on a MS-16F23 platform. A few months ago my graphics card died. (A GTX 560M)
I could not afford to buy a new laptop or new graphics card so I replaced it with a second hand GTX 670M 3 GB. It worked fine at first, but after a month this card also died.
About a week ago I received an used GTX 660M from an acquaintance.
I installed it with the new heatsink, started Windows and everything looked OK. Then I installed the Nvidia drivers and after reboot, right after the loading screen, I got a black screen (with the screen still lit).
I went into Safe mode and uninstalled the driver. Then installed again and got the same result. Went into Bios, change settings, tried resetting CMOS, nothing worked. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate again, then Windows 8, same thing. I also tried modding the drivers, still nothing.
I finally connected the laptop to an external monitor and it worked with the Nvidia driver installed. The laptop screen work perfectly without the driver.
Somebody form the Nvidia forum told me that this might be a BIOS problem, so I came here for help. Updating the BIOS is the only thing I haven't tried.
I looked for a fix for this for days now, if anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you,
    Fox

OK, thanks to runningman and to the great people at Power Notebooks I got to the point I am now. I have a MS-16F2-ID1 platform, with this BIOS:
    BIOS Version: E16F2IMT.300
    BIOS Build: 05/31/2011
    EC Version 16F2EG61 Ver4.22
    EC Build 04/21/2011
and a Dell (Alienware) GTX 660M video card with original VBIOS that are currently not fully compatible with each other.
By looking around I have found:
    - the VBIOS for the Dell GTX 660M at  http://www.techpowerup.com/
    - a more recent BIOS for my PowerPro R 11:36-560 MSI 937-16F231-004 on the MSI website.
    - that the MSI GE60 0ND laptop used to come with the GTX 660M GPU and I have also found a BIOS for this on the MSI website.
I have tried modding the Nvidia driver again, following the indications in the link provided by runningman, but unfortunately it did not solved the problem.
I understand that for this to work, I have to either find, create, or find somebody that can make a modified vbios for the Dell GTX 660M GPU that will make it compatible with my laptop. Or, I could change the BIOS of my laptop in such a way that it would ID the 660M Dell MXM.
This is were I am right now and I have no idea were to go next. As before, any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanx,
    Fox

  • GTX 670M BLACK SCREEN ON GT780DXR

    Good night, guys,
after a year since my last visit, I found a graphics card compatible with my laptop. It is a GTX 670m out of a msi GT60. The seller said it was 1.5GB, but according watching their vbios is 3GB. Well.
With the original vbios, I can see hdmi, vga but no display on the screen of the laptop. (Black screen).
If I flash the vbios gtx 570m. The screen of the laptop, illuminates, but still black screen. VGA and HDMI are seen, but with errors on screen.
I am very desperate to run this notebook. He has now 3years in my closet ...
Can you think something happens ?, vBIOS customs? something ?. Thank you.
    EDIT:
More info, MSI GT780DXR, BIOS 10H for non raid systems. And i look in nvidia and i cant look a laptop screen. With my graphic card gtx 570m i can look.
    EDIT2:
I Update the bios and firmware.
    GT780
    MS-1761
Bios ver.: E1761IMS.10H (NON RAID SISTEM)
    Bios build: 11/18/2011 10:10:10
    EC ver. : 1761EMS2 Ver 4.19
    EC build: 11/22/2011
    ME FW ver.: 7.0.4.1197
    Nothing changes..

Well, and what options I have.
It took one week intensively seeking a solution to the problem of bios or vbios that I have.
I changed the bios available, changed firmware, I put vbios of gtx 570m, and gtx 670m .
Gtx 570m 1.5gb Bios -> light on screen but in black. HDMI and VGA malfunctioning but they work.
Gtx 570m 3.0Gb Bios -> black screen, HDMI and VGA work.
Gtx 670m 3.0Gb Bios -> black screen, HDMI and VGA work.
Changes bios, firmware and any change in the vbios.
Tested different portable monitor, same results. Using a gtx 570m, operates the laptop monitor.
I contacted MSI to see if I'm lucky.

  • MSI GTX 660 Black screen on HDMI input

    Hi all,
    First of all, spec list:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (stock clocks and voltage)
    MSI 990FXA-GD80
MSI GTX 660 (stock clocks and voltage)
    2x4GB Kingston HyperX Predator DDR3 RAM (stock @ 1333MHz)
    Corsair GS600 (49A 1 12V rail)
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
    2x Cooler Master Excalibur
    LG 50PM670T (50inch plasma 600Hz sub-field)
Right, so here goes, my issue. Ever since setting up this rig, I've noticed that if I connect it to my TV through the HDMI port on the GPU directly to a HDMI port on the TV, it works fine until I reboot. After I reboot, nothing can be displayed and it's only when I use a VGA cable directly to my TV that anything pops up on the screen. I would then have to wait a fair while (up to like an hour) for it to recognise the HDMI input again. As I'd just set this up and hadn't installed any drivers, I put it down to a driver issue.
Now I've installed the Nvidia driver included in the CD, it still does the same thing. Well, sort of. When I boot it up, nothing at all shows up on my TV. Infact, the only thing that shows up is "no signal". However when it loads into windows, if I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in again several times I get the noise when you plug a USB device into Windows (duhh-dum) and then it displays correctly. Again though, when using VGA (DVI-> VGA on the graphics card end) it displays fine right from the get-go.
Is there something else I need to do? something in the BIOS? something in the Nvidia Control Panel? I did have the AMD Catalyst software installed as I have an AMD CPU, so I uninstalled that thinking they might be conflicting, but it didn't make a difference. Unfortunately, I don't have a DVI to HDMI adapter so I can't see if it's a display conflict with the TV or the HDMI port on the GPU.
Many thanks to those who take the take to read and respond and again, I haven't modified any settings at all, just kept everything at stock values.

check setting in nvidia control panel,
there is options for multi display,
which to be 1st, how to operate, clone, extend.
try play with them and see how its goes

  • Msi GTX 760, Multi-Screen, HDMI Color accuracy way better then DVI

    Hi,
I'm using two HP Pavillion 23xi screen.
At first, I decide to connect one screen using the HDMI output of the video card, and the other one using DVI. There was an astonishing difference between the two.
Ok, maybe the screen is the problem. So, I switch the connection between the two screen. Same result. HDMI look so better. For exemple, if i open paint between the two window, the hdmi connection show the empty white canvas like it suppose too, but the dvi screen is showing the canvas almost like a light grey.
Maybe it's the default behavior, but i'm sure something is wrong.
Is there a settings somewhere that i'm missing to make both output port behave the same way.
    Best Regards,
    Patrick.

if there is a setting it will be in the Nvidia control panel (probably under color for the output and you may need to adjust the color response curve)

Ok, from you're answer I understand that  flashing the GPU with a compatible vBIOS is either not a solution for the problem,
yes don't think that can help for this case
and also will be high risky to brick your card
and even if its not bricked[survive flashing] don't think that can change anything
eventually you can try flashing your system notebook BIOS to the latest version for your notebook,
to check if that can helps by chance.
For it you have to ask your notebook vendor [power notebooks]
to provide you with the latest BIOS for your NB
rather than this don't think any modded stuffs can help with this.

  • GeForce GTX 760 screen goes black

    Hi,
i bought a MSI GeForce GTX 760 Twin Frozr 2GB DDR5 and can't make it work. Each time i install the drivers then reboot, i see the Windows splash screen, then it turns black and nothing eles happens. It seems that the computer freeze because if i hit the NumLock key onb my keyboard, the Led doesn't go on or off.
I have tried at least 3 driver version (335.23, 334.89, 320.63, and the one on the included on the CD... not sure if it is on of those) and the result is always the same.
I can go to safe mode without any problem.
I'm running Win 7 64. Just so you know, this a clean install, i also tried it on a win 8 clean install and the result is pretty much the same.
    Here's my config:

    PSU: Antec HCG-620M
    Thanks for any help!

Try flashing the card with the attached vbios.
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the included file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.

  • MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB - Black Screen When trying to load games

Uninstall current driver in safemode using >>Driver Fusion<<. After reboot install current MSI driver: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/nvidia_33165_v7864_vga.zip
Did it twice and it still gives me a black screen when going into a full screen on games.

    Hi,
If you upgrade to Windows 8 (install in UEFI mode) and apply the posted BIOS update then you should be able to get to video card to work.

  • Bootcamp Black Screen iMac 27" (Late 2012) GTX 680 Drivers?

This is easy, same problem for everyone.
Using bootcamp to install windows 7 from an .iso in a USB (just because there is no DVD drive anymore on the iMac), after restart the imac a black screen come up and nothing happen.
I think this is because the drivers for the GTX 680 MX 2GB is missing on the USB.
Where to get them and how to fix this problem?
the solution that apple has right here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173 it doesn't work at all, just because the driver that you download from there is for an ATI Graphic card.
    How to fix this please.
I bought this very expensive imac because it is so powerfull and I want to use designing software with windows and use at the same time mac OS.
Please don't tell me about Parallels or VMware xD.

    Any other ideas?

    MV, welcome to the forum.
I would be inclined to agree with your suggestion that it is an insufficient power problem.  All PSU's are not made the same.  The GTX versions require alot of raw power to operate properly.  The 460W PSU in the computer is made for the components installed at the factory with not much room for upgrading.
