GTX 760. Too high temperatures under load?

Hello,
I have just bought  a new machine with a MSI GTX 760 Gaming card inside. I am not really sure if temperatures I'm seeing are OK.
The card idles at 32-33 degrees Celsius. This should be just fine I think. However, once I run some benchmarks or get into a game, the temperature rise to round 80~81 degrees and in most cases stabilise at that mark. Is this normal?
Most of the reviews I've read of the card so far show far lower temperatures under load so I started to be a little worried.
The above temperatures show under default MSI Afterburner fan profile. I haven't touched the card OC-wise, these temperatures being the main reason.
If I manualy set the fan to constant 70%  I do get a significant drop in temperatures. Under load the card now reaches 69~70 degrees.
I know there are many factors involved here, so I provide some more info about the machine itself:
Seasonic SS-520GB PSU
Intel 3570K with Corsair H55 cooling
GA-Z77N-WiFi motherboard
Kingston HyperX, DDR3 2x4GB 1600MHz RAM
Bitfenix Prodigy case
1x120mm fan at front, intake
H55 rad + 120mm fan intake, also at front
1x120mm fan at rear, exhaust.
Any advice would be highly appreciated!

No need to worry. the Maximum GPU Temperature of GTX760 is 97°C (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760/specifications) so your card is far from that mark. It is in a fine rage.
Temps strongly depend on the individual systems so you can't expect to get the temps any reviews listed. Individual temps might be lower or higher depending on the airflow in the case, other heating components, the fan profile of the current vbios, the applying of the thermal paste by the factory and so on.
As your case intakes hot air through the H55 that might be a reason for slightly higher temps. Also you have two times more intake than exhaust of hot air what can also increase temps. Furthermore you have a very small case so heat tends to stay where it was generated which causes components to heat up even more. In this situation your gpu temp is brilliant. Just game and be glad.

  • GTX 760 HAWK high-pitching sound?

    Hello!
I have recently bought a MSI GTX 760 HAWK.
    But there is an issue:
When the GPU is loaded at 0%, it makes a loud high-pitching sound.
When loaded not. I checked it with multiple programs sucbh as MSI Afterburner
Is this normal? I mean my old GPU did that too but then when it's heavily loaded.
The package(of the GPU) reads: "Minimal power supply: 500w(based on Intel i7)".
    I have a 450w supply with an i5 CPU.
I calculated if the GPU is compatiable (without OC) and it is compatiable - just(I think +30-50 watts and it would'nt anymore) - .

I highly suggest replacing this psu as it is insufficient for your setup. A system with a reference design GTX760 already requires 30A on +12v and a 500W PSU minimum. Your split rail 450W psu (http://store.antec.com/Product/power_supply-earthwatts/EA-450-PLATINUM/0-761345-27450-0%20%20.aspx) just barely offers 30A (405W) in total across two +12 rails maximum. Hence even for a reference design GTX760 your psu is on the absolute limit and on the edge of shutdown (or death in longterm use). BUT your GTX760 is not a reference design card, it is a Hawk. Instead of the reference 980MHz Core (Boost Clock:1033MHz) it clocks 1111MHz Core (Boost Clock:1176MHz) or higher and therefor needs up to 4A more on +12v. Consider the sound of your psu as a cry for mercy.

  • GTX 560Ti Hawk high temperature and noise

First of all I want to say "Hi" because this is my first post here!
Second, I have problems with my GTX 560Ti Hawk! The problems are high temperature and very loud fans! I bought this card less than a month ago and it didn't work properly from the first day but I wanted to give it a chance so I kept it for a while so I could monitor symptoms. I haven't even tried to OC it. I monitored it the way it came from the box.
In idle card doesn't go over 40°C which is fine by me considering the weather but when I play games it goes all the way to 85°C and it's loud as jet taking off! It's is pretty much intolerable to be near this card when playing games! This product is advertised to be very cold and very silent but now that isn't the case. What bothers me most is that the card was running on open bench table which has very good air cooling ( I made it myself and decreased ~10°C compared to my case). That means that my Hawk would have burned if tested inside the case, or it would fly away!! :D
Everything is good until card hits 76°C - that's tolerable temperature and the card is still silent, but when it hits 76°C and goes up, all hell breaks loose!
Card doesn't crash and it runs perfectly (got performance increase ~30% from my GTX 460) but way higher temperatures and noise above advertised makes me wanting to crash it with a sledgehammer! :D
I RMA it today and waiting for answer which should arrive in two weeks tops (quick when taking money but very slow when support is needed)
I wanted to ask if RMA is even possible when card isn't crashing??? I RMA cards with similar problems before with no problems but that was Gigabyte - not sure what can I expect with MSI because this is my first MSI product since 2003. RMA should be possible because card has failed to fulfill expectations which are guarantied by MSI...
If they refuse to send another card or return the money, what should I do???
    Computer specs:
    AMD Phenom 2 X4 955BE
    Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4
2x2 GB DDR3 Mushkin Blackline Stiletto
MSI GTX 560Ti Hawk (previously owned Gigabyte GTX 460 768MB which never went above 65°C even highly OC-ed)
    Seasonic 620-GM
Patriot Pyro 60GB and WD 640GB Green
    Thank you!

  • Macbook Pro Late 2010- High Temperatures, Low Load

So, before I say anything here, I've just recently had a logic board replacement. I was having some serious issues which it did fix, but some must be from another reason.
Firstly, I dont know if this is normal, but my Macbook Pro (Late 2010 model, 15") gets extremely hot, sometimes doing nothing more than Photoshop or even broswing the internet. I have it on a flat surface, where the fans have room to expel the air, and although they appear to be running normally, it doesnt seem to help.
I have also experienced issues with the charger. My last charger stopped working unexpectidly, and already the new one I got shortly before I took the laptop to be repaired is having issues. The connector is getting extremely hot as the other did before it died, and the LED light is not on most of the time, yet the laptop is still being charged.
The laptop seems to get hottest on the top left corner around the escape button. There isn't much of a noticable difference in temperature on battery versus power supply.
Thanks in advance for any help.

eight days ago i biught this graphic card, and playing games like stalker or crysis has turned into a problem, cause after 40 minutes playing the tenmperature reaches 90º and I checked the graphic with programmes like 3Dmark06 and fur benchmark with the EVGA precision y monitorized the temps. and what is my sorprise the graphic card reached a temp. of 100º and 105º after 3 minutes playing the fur bench with the fan working at a hundred % , i took out the card and went to the shop where  i bought it (alternate) and they told me that those are normal temp. that until 120 º that i dont have to worry how can this be its imposible and in summer 150º. i live in spain in Madrid and here in summer its hot.
My case is an aerocool nitron with 2 tacens ventus fan of 12 cm and an extra fan inside of aerocool with a large neck to move it through the case, my mother board y a P5K-C i have a corsair tx 650 2 hard drives seagate 1 of 250 and another of 500 and ot dvds,i tried taking of one of the sides of the case and the temps. kept the same whta should i do? nobody tells me nothing¿.

  • Temps Way Too High

    Please help me! lol
I just built a new PC and the the processor is 3.2Ghz P4.
It has a Zalman 7000Al/Cu cooler and it hitting a much too high temperature!
The case has a front 80mm intake fan (not bringing air into the case as its blocked), a 80mm side fan bringing loadsa air into the case and then 2 x80mm fans extracting at the back. Plus the PSU has a 120mm fan over the CPU.
Now the problem is that at idle the cpu temp is about 45C but in game it rises steeply. When running 3DMark 2003 about half way it hit 65C. That is way too high.
Now the thing is that when I feel the zalman it is hardly even hot. So obviously isnt making good contacts. Am I right. If so how do i fix this.
I Did use artic silver III on the heatsink and a fine amount so that you could just read the writing on the CPU. What else can I do please? Shouldnt the heatsink be at least hot?
    Thanks. Answer quick!
    SAspaz

Ah, you seem to have the exact problem I only just got over.  I just upgraded my P4C 2.8Ghz's cooler from stock to a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu, and at first, I had temperature hell, getting temperatures like you are, but it seems I had just misapplied the thermal paste.  I'm using the included Zalman paste, and from the tests I've seen, AS3 is only just very very slightly better than it, I'm talking maybe half a degree C.
The way I eventually found to apply it which gave the best result was to put the usual slightly smaller than a grain of rice dollop of the paste right in the middle of the processor, then sit the cooler on top of that, and give it a bit of a twist side-to-side so that it mashes out the paste.  You can take a look underneath to make sure this has given a good spread, don't worry if it doesn't cover the whole heat spreader, it shouldn't, and in any case the core which you are cooling is only under a tiny part of that huge plate.  As long as it's a reasonable size spread, just go from there and install the cooler as normal, and you should find it works fine.  While this method of grease application seems to be against most of the guides I've read, it definitely works fine (I'm getting 29C idle, max 45C load, in a case with absolutely horrid ventilation), and is in fact the way Arctic Silver recommend.
So give that a try, it worked for me.
Oh, and on the whole temperature misreporting deal, while I'm pretty sure my CPU is measured fine, is there some kind of issue with the system temp readings?  I should check my BIOS version, but I'm just puzzled in that my system temp tends to read about 40C, which is way more than even my CPU.

  • W520 corei7 2720QM - 1 core is throttled under load!

    Hi all,
I've been using my w520 for almost  2 years. It ran really great until recenty (these 2 weeks), I noticed that the core 2 & 3 constantly ran 20 degreer higher than core 0 and 1 under stress (i.e. wPrime) - please see img1 below as the screen shot of CPUID that shows the temperature under load.
In HWiNFO64 (img2) also shows that the core 3 was THROTTLED under stress.
All cores look fine after wPrime finished (img3).
    Here's the configuration: corei7 2720QM, 1000M, 8GB ram, 500HD.
I just updated the bios to ver 1.38 in December, I'm not sure whether this is the cause of the 1 core throttle or not.
Has anyone experienced the same thing? Or does it sound like a CPU failure to you?
    Thanks!!

Ok, I've reverted the BIOS back to ver 1.36 and then 1.32, the same throttling is still happening when running wPrime. Core 2 and 3 are consistently 20c higher than others when under load ...
I recall that the temperature on all the cores under load was like 85c max before ... and the machine was able to complete wPrime 32M under 10s, now it takes >11s everytime due to the throttling.
I've called Lenovo support 2 days ago, they said their safety team will contact me as it sounds like an overheating issue. However, i still haven't recevied any call from them ...
Can any tech. support from Lenovo help on this issue please?

  • MSI GTX 560 TI OC Twin Frozr II - High Temperature !!!

Hi, I'm italian, then excuse me if my english is bad. I bought an MSI gtx560ti OC and I've installed it on my pc just three days ago. this is my problem:
in IDLE the gpu temp is ok: 33°celsius (T° in my room is 25°)
in FULL with FURMARK stress test the gpu temp is next to 85° after two minutes of stress!!! I read on internet and on the vga's pack that the right temp is next to 68° in FULL !!
what can I do to solve the problem??? My case is big and there is a 12cm fan on the panel in front of vga..

as said above, furmark isn't a very reliable test.
also videocards my act very differently one from another and since your results are still acceptable you shouldnt worry. there are quite a few other cases on this forum with the same "problem" that, as we said, it is not really a big deal.
in my opinion all that difference in heat between the 560ti's is the stock voltage, some cards have more, some less but it translates in lower/higher temperatures. My gtx 560-ti Twin Frozr II OC for example acts exactly like yours, it's a 1.025 mV stock. I have to bump it up to 1.100mV if i want a stable overclock. However you can always tune a few things end get better temperatures and noise levels. i wrote a post about it not too long ago:

  • U430p Touch temperature too high

    Good morning everyone,
I have the Lenovo U430p Touch (Grey 59427963):
    i7-4510U
    NVIDIA Geforce GT 730M
    8GB Ram
    500GB + 8GB 5400 rpm
Since very young, I was always into gaming, being the clevo P370EM my previous "laptop". I've decided to go for a lighter smaller laptop and I chose the Lenovo U430.
I have this Lenovo laptop now, for the past 9 months. apart from the normal tasks (browsing, video chating, music videos, excel documents, image editing....) I play a few games as well (League of Legends, Path of Exile and Grid 2).
I haven't modified the laptop in any way. Everything is up to date - OS and drivers.
i like the games to run smooth so Im not even on high graphics, I reduced them to have more fps.
since the beggining the laptop allways worked fine, temperatures where never too high...
but for the past 1.... 2 months, I started noticing that it gets too hot in when playing, and even when im bworsing on youtube for example...
I was wondering that I should/could open the laptop to clean the dust (i've used the Dust Removal tool from lenovo Power management but it barely helps....) and also to renew the thermal paste.
However, I was not able to find much info on this.
The image below is from Notebookcheck, could you guys let me know wich one is the GPU and wich one is the CPU, and also:
does both the GPU and CPU use thermal paste? or is it only the GPU?
Would it be a good idea to renew the thermal paste? (I would take the laptop to any store capable of doing this)

    Thank you
Moderator note: large image(s) converted to link(s):  About Posting Pictures In The Forums

First, I would recommend that you download HWMonitor which is a free utility that will report your system's temperatures.  That way you will know if "hot" is really too hot.  The download comes in two versions. The first will install on your computer.  The second version is a Zip file that can be copied onto a flash drive and used as a portable application.  You can download HWMonitor here....
    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Secondly, I would recommend that you blow out the cooling vents on your computer if you have never done so.  Given the time in use, the environment in which you use you laptop, the heatsink and fan maybe covered in dust. Dust on the cooling fins will decrease the cooling efficiency and dust caked on the fan's blades with decrease performance.  Can of compressed air are available at any computer or electronics stores.  They maybe also found in the electronics section of big chain stores.  Just use short bursts of compressed air in the exhaust and intake vents.  Do this several times until you no longer notice dust being blown out.  Avoid long blasts of air as that may damage the fan.
Thirdly, if you decide take the computer in to have the thermal paste renewed I would recommend finding an Lenovo Authorized Service Center since the laptop is still under warranty.  The repair center will renew all the thermal paste under the CPU or GPU. You can find an authorize center by using the link below.  Select your country, enter in your city and check the back box for Warranty Service Provider.  Here is that link......

  • Is 95C CPU temperature too high?

I have Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. When I use QuickTime or any other video converting software to convert video for my iPhone CPU temperature hits 95C mark. Is it too high? Should I do something about it. If yes what should I do? It is the only situation when CPU temp is so high usually it is not higher then 70C when loaded.

    Hi,
thats normal that the CPU of an mobile system gets hotter, I mean your much more near the CPU then by an desktop. Thats normal that you could think the CPU gets too hot.
I have an Satellite X200 (Gamer machine) and the thing gets really hot, but thats normal since a powerful CPU is in there.
If I were you I wouldnt make any doubt about it and if youre unsure just ask some of your friends which owns a notebook. Usually they would say "yes, mine gets hot, too.."
The 100 degree means that the CPU can become such hot till it reaches 100 degree and then the machine shuts down to prevent to some damage on the CPU.
So in this case the 70 degree are okay. You (can by the way) prevent overheating when you clean your machine regurarely simply by blasting some compressed air gently through the ventilation holes of the CPU cooling system. If not then the cooling modules will be clogged from dust and start to overheat...

  • My macbook pro cpu temperature is too high??please tell me correct fact and information

i mistake deleting my activity.......re question...
I'm using macbook pro retina 13inch 2013 late version.
my macbook has NO external graphic card, just iris graphic.
when i was playing diablo3 or watching movie by using bypass ip address, my cpu temperature was maintained 90~100 celcius degrees.
And at the same time, my cooling fan was maintained 5800~6000 rpm.
    There are two questions.
One, is my macbook temperature too high or normal level ?
Two, i know that 6200rpm is maximum speed of cooling fan. Why  did fan run 5800~6000rpm, not maximum?

When processor intensive activities are taking place, temperature may reach the maximum level.
