GTX 770 4 gig & GTX 770 2 gig

Just have a quick question... I have the MSI GTX 770 TF/4 gig card and I am thinking about getting another.. If I get a 2 gig card, can I run it with the 4 gig in SLI mode? Thanks in advance for any help...

No, you can't! It is impossible to SLI cards of different vram sizes as Nvidia doesn't allow such setups. You will not even be able to enable SLI.

- All GPUs must have the same amount of VRAM and an identical Bus Width
-- You cannot use a "2GB" version with a "4GB" version or "3GB" version with a "6GB" version in SLI or a 1GB 192 bit bus with a 1GB 256 bit bus Etc.
Note: It used to be possible to enable SLI on cards with differing VRAM but this is no longer available.

Memory Question "*4x1 Gig or 2x2 Gig*?" what is faster?
I'm still don't know if witch to choose?
4 times 1 gigabyte Ram Memory is cheaper but if I choose for 2 times 2 GB Ram I can always beef it it later.
And is my memory faster if I'm using 4 slots with 1 gig over 2 slot with 2 gig?
I'm asking this question because I think using 4 times the memory bandwidth will be faster?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The iMac (Late 2009): Installing or replacing memory article and your User's Guide are pretty clear, they both say that +"You can use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM in each slot."+ and not 1GB modules. > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3918
To upgrade your ram you will want at least 2 more 2 or 4GB modules and add that to the current 2 x 2GB of ram. > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/DDR321.527

  • After installing leopard my RAM went from 2 gig to 1 gig

after installing leopard my RAM went from 2 gig to 1 gig... any clues. I had 2 gigs and now my computer only sees 1 gig. Uhh so far leopard is worthless.

I understand there is a problem with some RAM and Leopard. Are both sticks the same brand? You may want to check with the manufacturer.

Yes, but it's much cheaper to buy RAM from a reliable supplier like Crucial or OWC.

  • Ipod classic 160 gigs, only 150 gigs free when arrived?

so my empty, new ipod classic 160
    reads only 150 gigs free
now i know hard drives lose a few gigs in the translation
from retail packaging number, to actually available gigs
    but 10 gigs?
    what gives?

    Hi Dr. Rek,
Actually, losing 11 GB with the 160 GB iPod Classic makes sense.
It's the same binary system and same percentage lost (about 8%, I believe) as all of the previous iPods were. It just seems worse when several GBs are lost in the conversion, simply due to the fact that this is a bigger hard drive we're dealing with.
Think of the 27.72 GB vs/ 30 GB discrepancy, for example; 92.4% (total storage space gain) is the same rate of as it's always been, just with a 160 GB model, it turns out as about 11 GB lost.
So, it's normal for your computer (and on your iPod, too) to read the GB space as about 149 GB instead of 160; if you calculate it, it's actually the same percentage, but not a similar amount that we might be used to, since the iPod's hard drives are just getting larger in storage space.
I hope that all makes sense!

  • 4 gig or 8 gig of RAM?

Clearly, FCP 7 maxed out with 4 gigs of RAM, but FCP-X can use more. The question is how significant is the real world usage of 8 gigs vs. 4 gigs with FCP-X?
Has anyone out there started with FCP-X and 4 gigs and then upgraded to 8 gigs? If so, did you notice much change after the upgrade? I don't really need more RAM for any other apps, but if the performance change is significant in FCP-X, I will toss the original 4 gigs (2 x 2gig) and head over to OWC pick up 2 x 4 gig chips for my laptop. Of course more RAM is always better, but I'm only interested at this point if the performance boost is noticeable. (I'm still hurting a bit from the laptop purchase.)
    Thanks,
    Dave

First, make sure your laptop meets the specs for FCP X.
I'm not sure why my computer is not currently showing up in my signature as it has for many years (and I just updated it last week), but yes, I have a brand new:
    MacBook                         Pro,  Mac OS X (10.6.7), 2011 i7 17"
Really what I'm looking for is someone with real world experience that recently upgraded their RAM and can relate the changes in performance. Unfortunately with X only being out less than a month, this person may not exist yet.
I started with FCP 4.5, then FCP 5, then FCP 7, and use Logic. I also have an external eSata/FW800 RAID 1 setup that I used with FCP 7 (which may become less necessary now based on this other recent post of mine- https://discussions.apple.com/message/15628161#15628161 ). With FCP-X, I will likely be NOT importing the native AVCHD files but will instead be creating and editing with the Pro Res 422 Proxy files and then point to the original files at export time. A bit more experimentation will let me know if I will be able to work this way and avoid lugging around my external RAID 1 setup around the house. Since I don't have clients and am primarily doing straight forward video for my business, this may work okay for me. Hopefully, someone will come by that recently upgraded their RAM and share their performance experience.
    Thanks,

  • 10 gig to 1 gig

We will be upgrading our network shortly to 10 gig in some locations. If I have a link that is a 10 gig port on one side and a 1 gig port on the other will the 10 gig port negotiate to 1 gig until the other side can be upgraded? Thanks, Joe.

Unfortunately, there isn't any auto-negotiation on the optics modules.  So, both ends of a link need to be upgraded to 10G at the same time for the link to be operational.

  • ITunes upgrade turned 2.6 gig into 126 gigs

I upgraded my version on iTunes to the new version (7.3) and when I tried to auto sync my play lists over but then realized (eventually) that my songs, that were 2.6 gig (before I upgraded), are now 126 gigs. Even the smallest playlist (about 60 songs) is too big for my ipod.
iPod is a nano 4.0 now back to factory settings
I searched for some help and found this link

But it does not solve my problem.
    Any ideas?

Macs are a bit "special" with the memory, and some memory brands just don't work with Macs. I recommend to return the memory you bought (if you can) and buy memory from OWC or Crucial, so you will be sure that you will get compatible memory with the Mac > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo

  • 3 gig or 4 gig?

We have just been told by our distributor that if we order our iMacs now, we will get computers that can only take up to 3 gig memory. I presume that this means they are computers that were made in 2006, not the latest ones.
    Am I correct?
    Does it matter?
    Thanks!
    susan

    Hi Susan,
glad to be of any help.
As with the 4GB issue I think it will be solved when every possible OS running on the Intel Macs is 64-bit completely, not only in parts as is Tiger right now.
It has something to do with the Hardware Architecture provided by Intel (areas of RAm between 3GB and 4GB are occupied by certain PCI-connected and/or Onboard extensions.
With 64-bit OS these missing RAM can be shifted to an area above 4GB but with 32-bit they can't.
Have Fun with your new Macs, you will mostly like them a lot.

  • Whats the difference bet the 4 gig and 8 gig iphone

Hi guys I plan to buy an iphone this Monday. Is there big difference bet the 4 gig iphone and 8 gig iphone. Someone told me that the 8 gig iphone offers more memory than the 4 gig. In my own understanding the only advantage of the 8 gig iphone is its hard disk space. Well I want to hear your opinions on this one before I buy this phone thanks.

I agree that the 8GB is worth the extra $100, but I wouldn't calculate the costs this way. Your money is paying for the overall iPhone platform, including the flash storage. Trying to figure out how much you're paying per GB would need to involve breaking out the components and figuring out the percentage costs for each. What is certain is that you are paying $100 for an additional 4GB. I think that is worth the money, especially if you want to use the phone as an iPod, but that's a subjective decision.

  • MSI Afterburner 2.2.4 - Voltage oc nerf for GTX 670 PE / GTX 680 Lightning

Looks like Nvidia has given MSI a bashing for allowing voltage adjustments with these cards.
Disappointing as the actual box states:
    Quote from: mikeo, OcUK Forums
Yet another new version just released:
    http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm#
    MSI Afterburner Version 2.2.4 (2012/9/18)
    -    Added new graphics cards support
    -    Change the NVIDIA Kepler series voltage control mode
And it's the 2nd item that is maybe of interest to those of us with Kepler based GPU's! Basically the GPU core voltage has been now locked for all cards (including the 680 Lightening and the 670 PE) to 1.175v. This by all accounts was by the direction of Nvidia/MSI themselves.
Suggested reading is the last few posts on this thread at Guru3D (post #67 onwards):
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=364858
    One quote from Unwinder:
it will be standard 1175mV, similar to all other 680 on the market. Advanced core voltage control of Lightning will be totally disabled, so it won't be different comparing to any other 680.
Though there are still two ways round this.
    1) Continue to use version 2.2.3
    2) Use 2.2.4 (or later when it becomes available) but use the work around that Unwinder gives in a later post.
Looks like Nvidia is continuing to put the pressure on to prevent any sort of meaningful voltage adjustment.

Quote from: flobelix on 22-September-12, 02:52:20
Sadly Nvidia really dictated this cut down. MSI had to follow. I keep on using 2.2.3 which keeps everything as it should. Poor 660ti users have no choice as only 2.2.4 supports this model. Right now there is no workaround for that gpu.
It's a shame really, I already have a GTX 670 that does 1340/7406, but on Thursday I decided to buy the MSI GTX 670 OC PE, having read this:
Quote from: HardwareCanucks - MSI GTX 670 Power Edition OC Review
MSI’s cards have continually impressed us with their willingness to overclock to impressive levels. With a bit of coaxing via MSI’s AfterBurner software to maximize the Power Limit and add 100mV to the core and memory voltage (PLL was also increased by 50mV) the GPU hit an impressive 1388MHz while the memory petered out at 6524MHz. Both of those clock speeds are personal bests but we have a feeling like there’s more in the tank should MSI decide to release a GTX 670 Lightning.
For those of you wondering, at these speeds, the actual Boost clock we typically observed in games was between 1450MHz and 1465MHz.

I got my MSI GTX 670 OC PE on Friday, will see what it can do tomorrow, even at factory clocks it should be on par with a reference GTX 680, I only game at 1920x1200 anyway, so it will be great.

Are the partitions going to be stuck to it's portioned or can i adjust it once i have more space. Or will it just divide itself on the drive? ORRRRRR will it just do OSX.

If you don't have an external drive you will need an enclosure like thit to put the new drive while you clone it. The nice thing is when you are through just put the old drive in the enclosure and you have an extra hard drive.

  • Problem with upgrading Graphics Card from GTX 635 to GTX 960

    Greetings,
I'm new to upgrading hardware in computers but have decided that I wanted to upgrade my graphics card in my HP Envy 700 - 329 (Nvidia GTX 635) to an Nvidia GTX 635. The only problem is I have never opened a computer and have no idea what cable to put where or how to take my old Graphics Card out to put my new one in, and I'm very worried because I might mess up.  Is there any video tutorial/ guide out there that is convinient to my desktop for me to upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Marwan
P.S. Is the space in the Envy 700-329 large enough for the GTX 960?

    Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are looking at upgrading your internal video adapter from a Nvidia GTX 635 to a Nvidia GTX 690. I am happy to help with this. FIrst thing, you must be aware of before you buy any video adapter upgrade, is the power requirements of the card, the recommended minimum output for the computer's power supply,  the size of the card, the required expansion slot type, and the type of power connectors that must be available for the card from your system power supply. Starting with a comparison of the card you have with the one you are thinking to install:GeForce GT 635 (OEM) Specifications - www.geforce.comBus Support - PCI-E 3.0 Height 2.731 inchesLength 5.70 inchesslotWidth SingleMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)  35W GeForce GTX 690 Specifications - www.geforce.comBus Support - PCI Express 3.0Height 4.776 inchesLength 11.0 inchesslotWidth Dual-slotMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)               300WMinimum System Power Requirement (W) 650WSupplementary Power Connectors                Two 8-pin Your computer has the following:
Power Supply Internal Total wattage: 460W  - too lowDimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches) I have highlighted the items you will need to be aware of in red, before trying to install this card. Because the stock power supply is 460W, it will also need to be replaced, because the card requires that your power supply meet a minimum output of 650W, and that power supply needs to also have two 8-pin supplementary power connectors. I included the dimensions of your current power supply so you have a guide to the type of space you have and form of the power supply to help with finding something that will fit in that space. Also I highlighted the fact that the card you are looking at is significantly larger in all dimensions, so you can make sure it will fit inside the case or have an idea of what cabling may need to be moved, and because it is a dual-slot width, it may block another slot on your main board. Because of all of these issues you may want to consider talking to a local computer tech or a tech savvy friend to help you with this, and maybe save some money as well. I did not include the instructions on how to replace the card itself, because of the other issues, which you will need to check on first. I hope this helps, or does not confuse the matter more, but reading your post I realized you were probably not aware of these little roadblocks.
