GTX 780 With MSI P67 GD53

Hi there!
I just purchesed a new EVGA GTX 780 Super CLock (i love MSI, but the EVGA one was 50.00 cheaper, and higher clocked)
While booting a run into some weird behavior
It Starts, i see "B2" for about a minute then i get a beep, after another minute a second beep, and after another, a third. At this point i see "corruption" on the screen, with purple random symbols...
and then it boots into windows.
My first thought was i needed to update the motherboard BIOS, but i see that there hasn't been an update since january, and seeing as how this card is about 2 weeks old.. i dont know if it would address the problem
Anyone have any advice?

I have the exact same problem but with a GTX 770. My version of bios is 1.J and I have read of people in the same situation who got the same behavior before flashing to 1.J and once they did that they could not even boot into Windows.
Is there anyone working on this?
Ask MSI and report your problem, or contact the vendor of the graphics card for a Legacy ( best guess) VBIOS. Since you don't list system specs, we can only speculate what the problem might be. Most likely the VGA is not made to be compatible out of the box.

  • Turbo Overclock with MSI P67-GD55

    Hey,
I'm trying to overclock my 2500K, but I don't want it to run always on the OC Clockrate. Now I read it should be possible to change the Turbo Multiplier so the OC only applies when heavy CPU Power is needed. When I check my BIOS and go to Overclock>CPU Features. There I find: core 0 on 37x,1 on 36x, 35x,34. But the problem is, that I can't change these values. Is this locked at the GD55 Motherboard?
    System specs:
    Latest BIOS version
    Intel Core i5 2500K
    MSI P67-GD55
4 GB RAM Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz
    Samsung Spinpoint F3
    Nvidia GTX275

Please read this article to better understand the turbo boost technology. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1501/2/
The technology applies max turbo boost to 3,7GHz only on lighter loads, i.e. when one core is being used. As sson as more than one core is under load the turbo boost will reduce until under full load the processor will only run at 3,4GHz. This ensures smooth transitioning between loads and a better performance under loads. There is no reason to disable this.
Furthermore, you will find when your PC idles, the clock frequency will actually go down to 1,6GHz or there abouts to conserve energy and reduce heat generation. Under light loads the Processor may run anywhere in between the minimum and maximum defined Intel clock frequencies.
If you were to increase your CPU multiplier to say 40 and leave everything else alone, then the maximum core clock applied will be 4,0GHz, but the PC will still reduce back to idle when there is no load. Give that a try and observe the behaviour. Download CPU-Z to monitor the voltages and frequencies.

  • Keine CUDA Beschleunigung mit GeForce GTX 780 Ti [MSI N780Ti (MS-V298)] ?

    Hallo Forum,

  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 with MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) motherboard

    Hi!
I have seen a similar issue here that was resolved with the help of this forum. (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251322.0). I still want to ask my questons however, since I have a slightly different situation.
I recently bought a new Graphics card, a MSI GTX 970, to replace my older EVGA GTX 570. After installing it, the time it takes to startup the computer is quite a bit longer. The very begninning of the startup process is the part that takes longer, I see a black screen and "B2" in the lower right hand corner, with the older GPU this was seen for a few seconds but now it stays that way for about a minute. After that I see some random colors in stead of the MSI logo and then the regular "Starting Windows" image appears, from there the startup is as fast as before.
When the computer has started it seems to work perfectly, and the new graphics card is great, everything on "ultra" in games etc.
I guess the way to resolve this issue is to update BIOS. I am a bit afraid of this however, of the risk of destroying something.
What would be your suggestions? Is it better to update bios or to leave it as it is, since the computer works? Are the any risks with keeping this bios version, that seems to have some issue with the graphics card?
Any help would be greately appreciated!
    /Johan

    Ok, thanks for the advice.
I have started looking at the instructions and have downloaded the installer and the bios file. It seems Norton Internet Security has some problem with the installer.  When I start the installer it reaches the point when it shows the current bios version, after that it is interupted by Norton. The reason that Norton gives is that it has found something called "Suspicious.Cloud.9.B" in the file b4.bks. How should I react to this?

  • Can I run a GTX 780 Lightning 3-way SLI with 2 Stock 780s?

    Hello all, quick question.
I currently have 2 of the release date GTX 780s from MSI running in SLI. Unfortunately, it's hard to find the original cards now (and if you do, they are pretty expensive).
I got a 4k monitor a while ago and i came across a cheap 780 lightning so i purchased it. I did a quick check on MSI's website and for some reason it says N/A next to 3-way sli for this card even though when comparing it to the stock card which says it does support 3-way SLI. Does anyone know why? The only difference between this card and my others is a slightly higher core clock/boost speed. I figured adding it SLI would be easy. Any ideas?
This post won't let me insert links but the "Stock" card i am referring to is the MSI N780-3GD5 on their website, and the N780 Lightning.
    Thanks guys!

as long as they are using the same GPU (GTX780) and have a equal frame buffer size on all 3 cards it should work in triple SLI as long as you have a good enougth power supply and your board supports 3 way SLI too!
    Thanks! I appreciate it.
I have a 1300W power supply, and I just purchased a new MSI X79A-GD45 Plus motherboard. I believe this one supports 3-way SLI.

GTX780 Gaming hasn't been out or announced at the time the topic started. None the less it is still not released so far.
Currently N780-3GD5 remains the only available GTX780 card. Because of the way higher stock clockrates I'd wait for the Gaming version.
It will be available in a few days.

But the question was "Will MSI come with a GTX 780 TwinFrozer ?".
    And the answer is YES.
    p.s.
We already have a MSI GTX 780 Lightning around here.

  • MSI GTX 780 "Gaming Mode" -Things go black

    Hello,
I am new to the forums. I have registered because I am hoping someone can help me with a very frustrating situation. I have spent hours upon hours attempted to figure this out on my own to no avail. Although I am a new forum member, I am pleading for some guidance.
I just bought/installed a MSI GTX 780 graphics card. I have uninstalled my previous driver (clean uninstall) and installed the current driver. Everything seems to be just fine, except for one issue...
When I select "gaming mode" in the MSI Gaming App, my desktop goes black (my wallpaper disappears). If I have a Chrome browser window open, that goes black too. If I mouse over an area of that browser window, the window reveals itself in sections (as I mouse over them). Furthermore, my monitor seems to fade in and out slowly from it's typical brightness. It starts out dimmed and gradually returns to normal brightness, and the cycle repeats slowly.
My temps are just fine according to Corsair Link. When I observe the stats in Afterburner, everything appears to be running properly. Prior to reinstalling the GTX 780 driver, I was playing various games and everything (temps, GPU usage, etc) was running properly and well within their respective safe ranges.
    System Specs:
    Asus Z87 A motherboard
    i7 4770k processor
MSI N780 GTX 780 graphics card
    16 gb Corsair Vengeance RAM
    128 GB SSD
    Corsair H100i
Please help me if possible, I would very much appreciate it! The problem manifested once I installed the MSI gaming app. Once I was unable to fix it, I then did a uninstall/reinstall of my GTX 780 driver. The whole process was successful. However, once I reinstalled the MSI gaming app and and activated the "gaming mode" preset, the same issue returned... blackness. I can still see the windows task bar and my desktop shortcuts, but blackness everywhere else.
Thank you kindly for your time and consideration!
    Mike

The gaming mode is just the normal boost behavior the card would run without the Gaming APP. Uninstall it and see if the card works fine under 3d load. If so it's some kind of software compatibility issue. Simply don't use the gaming APP then.

Mobo- MSI P67A-GD53 P67 SLI CrossFireX
Do I need to do something different than with AMD products ?!
    Thx in advance

Ok, do you see the Realtek HD Audio correctly installed in your Device Manager?
When you plug speakers into MoBo, do you get a auto pop-up dialog from Audio Manager?
If not, you have to click yellow folder (in the upper right corner on the picture below) and to enable that dialog.
Does Realtek Audio Manager see anything connected to your board?
On my picture you can see 5 jacks faded,  but one ( green) in which I have speakers connected is in full colour.
When you right-click you mouse on that jack , it has to be dedicated to 'front speaker out'.

  • Z77A-GD65 issues with Geforce GTX 780 Video Card

    Hey Guys,
I have a issue with a new PC build.
I think it may be a driver or BIOS setting issue, I hope
I bought a MSI Z77A-GD65 motherboard and below are the specs:
    - Intel Core i7-2600 CPU 3.4 Ghz
    - BIOS Version E4451IMS V10.8
    - Balistix Sport 8GB sticks (Total of 24 GB memory installed)
    - Kentek 875w power supply
    - Geforce GTX 780 Graphics Card
My problem is with the Geforce GTX 780 video card, I installed a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit and
everything runs and works fine, but when i install the Geforce GTX 780 video card and install the
drivers its all good up to this point but when i restart the computer i get this message in the device
manager ""Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)"
I have installed different versions of the driver, a few older and few newer versions with the same
    outcome.
I tried to flash the BIOS to the latest version 10.11 but had problems with it picking up my harddrive
after it flashed successfully. I even checked the boot up setting and it all looked good just would not
boot up, so i had to revert back to the v10.8 BIOS version for it to work.
I'm not sure if there is a setting in the BIOS that i need to turn on or off. I'm not familar with this BIOS,
is there a place in it so i can see if the BIOS is picking up the video card, it has to or Windows would
    not see it right?
I'm stumped here, do you guys know of a Geforce driver version that works well with this video card?
I truely think the card is fine because when i install the card to the motherboard i dont get any weird
issues until the driver is installed and Windows is restarted.
I would greatly appreciate any help and advise that you guys can give me.
    Thanks alot

    UPDATE
Well i wanted to post an update on my new build issue.
    Here are my specs:
    I bought a MSI Z77A-GD65 motherboard with BIOS v10.8
    - Intel Core i7-2600 CPU 3.4 Ghz
    - BIOS Version E4451IMS V10.8 (i had a issue with the newest BIOS flash v10.11 it wouldn't detect the harddrive, could figure that one out so i went back to v10.8)
    - Balistix Sport 8GB sticks (Total of 32 GB memory installed) I first had 3 sticks so i got another 8GB stick to fill all 4 banks for total of 32 GB
    - Corsair Professional Series 860 Watt Digital ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Platinum Power Supply AX860i (Bought this PS to replace the Kentek PS)
    - N780 TF 3GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 780 GAMING) (traded Geforce GTX 780 card for the MSI version of the GTX 780 card)
OK... I got the new Corsair 860w power supply installed and i installed the new MSI GTX 780 video card with the specs above everything installed fine no problems and my son was playing the Bio Shock Infinite game on Steam and about 1 hour into the game he got a blue screen of death, says something like "to prevent damage windows is now resetting" and it turns off so fast can't read the rest of the message.
I'm going to here in a little bit and update all device drivers with MSI Live update utility and also update the motherboard BIOS again to v10.11.
I'm really confused here, I'm also going to take out some memory and try to run it with sticks only in slot 2 & 4 to see if it runs more stable like that, also should i update the video card to the latest driver, i know the latest is not always the greatest driver.
I want to think you guys again for your help & time with this issue. I really dont know what else to do here, everything is new in this PC.
    Thanks

  • MSI P67-A GD53 Triple Power Cycle

    Hi all,
1st of all let me introduce myself, my name is Damien and I have been a PC enthusiast ever since I built my 1st PC when I was 10 years old (15 years ago), I am a massive fan of the PC gaming scene etc and have always played games on my PC because it is so much better.
Now I have had a few issues over the past week or two with motherboard's and cpu's etc, and to give you a idea of how lucky I usually am with PCs this last week or two has been the worst time I have had with motherboard's and cpu's ever in my whole time of building PCs.
1st it was a motherboard that went bang, so was replaced then that replacement motherboard would not accept voltage changes and was trying to put 1.8v through my ram which was 1.5v max, then I replaced that board with another that blew up, so I then bought a new board and chip which turned out to be faulty again.
Now you may think I am going on but this will make sense in a minute, so I got fed up with buying faulty stuff so I went to a very good PC part's retailer in the UK called Scan Computer's, I have used them for quite a while now and spent a fortune in there.
Scan do pre overclocked bundle's where they overclock the CPU for you and test everything, so because of the trouble I have had I bought one which comes with a MSI P67-A GD53 motherboard but I have noticed some times when it boot's it will power up and then down and then up and down, again and then it will power up and boot in to window's.
My question is should it do this or not as I really don't want another faulty board.
Any help will greatly be received as I am now at wit's end with this PC.

    Quote
My question is should it do this or not as I really don't want another faulty board.
It shouldn't do this, but having said that, it is not uncommon on the Sandy Bridge platform, experienced infrequently on boards from different manufacturers.
I would be reluctant to advise you to meddle with a complete build from Scan without discussing it with them first.
We can probably give you advice on a couple of things you can try, but I don't know what your warranty conditions are if you mess with the BIOS.
Maybe you want to save your current BIOS settings as a profile first, so that you can load it again.
Then do a CMOS clear for now and see if it behaves any differently. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Please do provide your full system specs and what the current BIOS settings are, i.e. did you opt for a shop overclocked model ?>>Posting Guide<<

  • MSI p67a-gd53 (b3) Wont boot with ram in slot 1 and 3, or 2 and 4.

Hi i recently built my own system, with just one ram stick in it boots fine and everything.
When i try to put the other stick in slot for so that in runs dual channel it just wont boot, it turns on starts the fans up and then just goes off, and repeats this.
The ram i have is Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.
It also doesnt work in slots 2 and 4, can anyone help me :(?
    My setup is :
OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
    MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
MSI ATI Radeon HD 6870 OC HAWK 1024MB
    Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4GB
    Seagate Barracuda 500gb HD
Gets no beeps on boot with just one stick in, im really confused :s
    All Help will be appreciated.

Both ram sticks worked in slot one and it would boot but I tried running a game and it froze each occasion, cud this be due to the ram being dual channel and only having one in? Or that the ram has the wrong settings.
I have returned the motherboard along with the ram to the shop i got it from for tests to see if the dimm slots had problems. Il let you guys know what they say.
Thanks for the advice, when I get it back il build it again and see if it runs fine, if not il try the things youve said.
Can anyone else shed any light on this? Any other things I may have to try?
    Thx again

  • MSI GeForce GTX 780 SLI question.

    Hi,
I wonder if my MSI GeForce GTX 780 Gaming OC is compatible with the MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning LE in SLI?
    Thanks!
    BR, Tobias

as long as both cards are using the same GPU (GTX 780 GK110) and they both have the same amount of VRAM (EG: 3GB+3GB) then they will be able to be used in SLI as long as your PSU can power both of them!
you can use SLI even with different manufacturers cards so long as its the same spec (GPU) as the other and the VRAM frame buffers match each other as both need the same amount!
