GTX 970 4G gaming issues

Hey all,
I just picked this awesome card up yesterday and figured to give it a try in BF4. I made sure all the drivers were updated with Nvidia Experience and that everything was set to go. I set all the graphics settings in the game to ultra and began to play. Every 5-15 seconds my fps goes from roughly 80-60 down to 0, it freezes my screen for about a second then the fps jumps back up. It will do that or have a decrease of 20-40 fps then it'll go back up. I wasn't sure what was causing it, so I lowered my settings to "Low" just to see what it would do. I still get a stuttering, but not a total freeze. When it's not doing this it performs beyond my wildest dreams.
What could be causing this and what could I try to fix it?
Here's a link to my rom: hxxps://www.dropbox.com/sh/segf4dbqkd1ix6t/AABM8sRxkB3j-B-h0pGgqL-ra?dl=0
Serial number: 602-V316-09SB1410040906
System specs: Intel i7-3770 (OC'd to 4.1ghz)
Ram: 8gb 1886mhz
HD: 500gb Black WD
Cooling: Corsair H100i
Display: Viewsonic IPS display
Graphics: MSI GTX-970 4G

I see you're running GSkills.
Run Memtest and see if it reports any issues.
Also try playing game(s) without any OC (CPU+RAM). CPU back to stock clocks, RAM down to 1600MHz. Might be helpful to clear CMOS: >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Note down your OC settings so you don't have to "dig" for these again after setting BIOS back to defaults.
Are you able to test different PSU?
Could you also try running some benchmark?
What are the temps of the GPU and CPU under load?
What resolution are you running at, and what video cable do you use?
And I suggest you try updating your BIOS to the latest BETA if above doesn't help:

• GTX 970 4G Gaming not underclocking in idle

So, I suddenly got this little issue after trying to to play few f2p mmos, which totally made my computer go crazy when launched, few days ago.
Basically, the gpu won't go under 899Mhz, down to 135Mhz, anymore.
Of course have rebooted, tried reinstalling MSI Gaming App and the NVidia drivers.
Is there some power-saving options somewhere which may have gotten resetted, and which affect the underclocking?

What f2p mmos games you tried to play?
Check if any files related to the f2p mmos remains in your system and delete it.
Try clear CMOS and reseat your GTX 970 4G Gaming.
Gonna try to take out and reseat the card. Probably won't try the CMOS clearing. I don't really like to do it except in total necessity.
And this isn't one. The card still stays cool enough after all (under 60celsius).
Also, cleaned the directories and registry keys so those games shouldn't have anything left anymore.

Do you have multiple monitors?
I do have multiple monitors (2 + tv) but that hasn't mattered before. It was only after the games caused the whole system become unstable. (really old games, from 2006-2008).
They are called ASDA Story 2 and Drift City.
Especially the ASDA 2 was horrible. It made the whole Windows freeze from time to time.
Which, I guess may have been caused by the anti-hack they have: nProtect's GameGuard. It most likely completely blocked several system programs. Including the NVidia driver.
The anti-hack program is gone, but I guess after effects still apply until the card is taken out/system is reinstalled.

• GTX 970 4G Gaming shutdown

Hello, sorry if this has been asked before, I've seen some similar topics but not the same.
I've a MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming edition, before that I had a 560 Ti that never gave me a problem at all.
With the new card, when I'm playing videogames (like The Witcher 3, Tomb Raider, Metro 2033... ) sometimes the PC shutdowns. Instant off, like if it was a temp problem or you just pull the plug. Could be after playing 2 hours or 10 min, it's very random.
I've checked the temps and they are never too high or even high, same goes for the temps of the card. Turning off tessellation usually helps a lot with this, but seriously, if I have this kind of card I want to play as I want, and seems very weird (also I can't find where I can turn off the tessellation in Witcher 3!)
My PSU is a 570W, and never had a problem with the 560TI at all (which seems to use as much power as the 970). I know it looks like the main culprit here, but before buying a new one I want to check my options, this could be a problem of the card BIOS or the card is faulty or something I'm not seeing, that's why I ask for your help.
My rig (I got this info from MSI Afterburner, I also have 8 GB of RAM):
CPU
Model : AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor
Logical cores : 8
CPUID : AuthenticAMD family F, model 1, stepping 2
GPU1
Display device : GeForce GTX 970 on GM204-A GPU
Display driver : 352.86
BIOS : 84.04.36.00.f1
The s/n of my card is:
602-V316-24SB-1501007207
Sorry for annoying you if this has been already answered a thousand times!

Yes, I think it's time to accept reality and get a new PSU. By the way, I forgot to mention it, but everytime the system shut downs, it needs a little time to turn on again, I can't just press the power button again, usually have to wait (around a minute, but have to wait).
Any PSU recommendation? If I have to change it, I'd prefer to do it to a decent one.
I was thinking of getting a XFX 650W XXX Edition, seems very nice and very decent priced (and seems they are made by Seasonic, which I remember it was a nice brand). Also I'm going to do some OC so that extra juice could be necessary.
Here's the link to it:

There's also this one, seems to be the best seller in Amazon and get tons of good customer reviews:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Builder-Series-Modular-Certified/dp/B00ALYOTTI/ref=zg_bs_430514031_1
Any opinion? Should I go for another PSU instead of one of those?
Check this list.
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
Corsair's psus are very problematic.Too many people reporting excessive coil whine. They don't care much about their psu's except some very high-end ones.
XFX seems like a way better choice than corsair.
And don't be so sure about graphic cards.I have returned too many gtx 970s just for coil whine, the first one i returned had similar problem.Screen used to freeze when playing a game followed by a bsod.Sometimes no bsod but black screen lasting 10-15 seconds.
Other ones i got didn't have functional problems like that, but coil whine.
So i guess the first gtx 970 gaming 4g i've returned not only had coil whine, but also functional problems.

• GTX 970 + MSI Gaming 5 Z97 No post.

Hopefully someone can help me out.
I am trying to use a brand new MSI Gaming 5 z97 mb with a Msi GTX 970 4G video card and have run into an issue. I can boot the system with the integrated video with no issue but if I put the card into the system I barely get a flash of power when I press the power button. The system will not even post.
I am using an AX 650 Corsair PSU, also brand new, I replace the old AX 650 Corsair PSU as part of the troubleshooting.
Any ideas? I am really loathe to RMA this card and be out of decent video for x days / weeks.
Thanks!

Did you try to clear CMOS?
Are you able to test different graphics card in your system? Ask a friend or a neighbour for this.
What if you try single RAM stick?
Also: inspect CPU socket looking for bent pins. Use magnifying glass and bright light, or take close and accurate photos and then inspect those. (I suggest this before last part)
You could try to update to BIOS 1.9
http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-bios
Make sure to use MFlash+ME Update. And follow the instructions on the website. Make sure that the system is stable (so best with single RAM stick and without the graphics card).

• MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB GAMING

So I recently bought the GTX 970 OC with 1279 MHz clock speed. However, several times lately when I'm gaming I notice poor performance, so I loaded up some hardware monitoring to see what was up with that. CPU, RAM and disk looks fine, however my GPU clock speed is stuck at idle speed, 540Mhz!! During gaming! What is up with that? I have all drivers up-to-date.

Side note: Why does the Gaming app say CPU clock 390 Mhz, when it is 3900 Mhz?
Possibly false reading. Try latest version: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=254621.msg1463577#msg1463577

• GTX 970 MSI Gaming App

Hello,
I installed GTX 970 Gaming and reinstalled Windows 8.1. Driver is from MSI website - 344.16.
When I start MSI Gaming App it says The platform does not support this application.
I read other threads but I couldn't find solution.

The Problem is that the Version from Online Produkt Page(1.0.0.21 or 2.0.0.21) is outdated and does not support the GTX970/980.
You have to install GAMINGAPP-Utility from included CD. Must be Version 3.0.0.5.

• [GTX 970 4G] Gaming APP wants to reboot

Ok so I updated my gaming app today (got the dvd version previously) and since I can't change my settings without rebooting.
I really liked the previous version with silent mode and OC mode. It's that simple and I don't want to use afterburner.
Is there a solution to change without reboot or to rollback to a previous version?
And it seems that even in OC mode the clock seems to be stuck in 899mhz
Got
GTX 970 4G
MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming
I7-4770k

One question, if I don't install the Gaming App, my GTX 970 Gaming 4G at which core clock will run?
1140MHz Core (Boost Clock:1279MHz) (OC Mode)
1114MHz Core (Boost Clock:1253MHz) (Gaming Mode)
1051MHz Core (Boost Clock:1178MHz) (Silent Mode)

• GTX 970 GAMING 4G Hybrid Bios

Hello I wanted to know if the card GTX 970 4GB Gaming has installed a series of hybrid Bios (Legacy and UEFI-GOP), and then if I have a Z97 motherboard Xpower AC and windows 8.1 installed can activate the Fast Boot.
Thanks for the info.

All current GTX9xx cards do come with a hybrid vbios. So there will be no problem using Fast Boot.

I'm having an issue with my new MSI GTX 970 4GB Gaming card.

• GTX 970 4G screen flicker/black out[Solved!]

My new GTX 970 4G is causing my display to intermittently flicker as well as going completely black. Sometimes it stays black until I toggle the display input. Other times everything seems to work fine for a while. I was able to play Bioshock Infinite for a couple hours with no problem, but as soon as I quit the game it started again. I'm trying to determine if I have a lemon or a software/hardware compatibility issue.
Youtube link of problem:
Computer:
Asus Rampage 3 Formula mobo with latest bios
Corsair HX850W PSU
i7 950
Crucial 16g RAM
No overclock on my setup
Previously using vanilla GTX 580
Steps I've tried to fix: Used both DVI ports on card, plus HDMI. Nvidia drivers 334.60 and .16, scrubbed previous drivers before installing. Changed PCIE slots on mobo.

Ok, I'll post some more info and let's see if anything lines up.
System
i5-4690K
MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming
MSI Z97M Gaming
Corsair Vengeance 16GB
Corsair AX 760i (also tried HX-620 & AX-760)
Monitors Asus VE276Q via DisplayPort - AOC 22 via DVI - Panasonic 37" LCD TV via HDMI
Firstly I noticed the ASUS screen would display a corrupt image, see picture below.
But it would only do it on the ASUS screen, the other two screens would display correctly. If I unplugged or cycled the inputs on the ASUS screen, all screens would drop sync and system would hang. If I waited a few mins I would hear the hardware disconnect sound by windows, but the computer would need a reset to work correctly again.
Plugged in via Dvi or HDMI I would get the same flicker that in the OP's video, but only on the ASUS screen.
Got new cables, didn't fix anything. Am typing this out on the pc in question as we speak, it's been stable last 3 days running a Dell 22" via DisplayPort with AOC & Panasonic still connected also.
Tested without GPU , problem doesn't appear. Looks like these GTX 970's don't like to play with Asus VE27** monitors.

• GTX 970 GPU usage spikes and Frame Rate drops

Hi all, anyone having the same issue?
I'm playing a relatively low(?) graphic intensive game ( League of Legends ) and this also happens in the sims 4. I have The Crew and this issue does not happen so frequently. Could anyone kindly assist to provide me some info on this?
My driver version is the latest (347.25)
My system specs are:
Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit
ASUS P8Z77-V Intel i7-3770 @ 3.40 GHz

CORSAIR VENGEANCE 12 gig ram ( 3*4g ) <-- that will cause a performance hit as you will be in single channel on the memory not dual channel! (on that platform you need even numbers of sticks and a odd amount will force single channel only (for max performance its 2 or 4 slots populated))
it could possibly be contributing to you issue!
Badboy2k first of all thanks for the very quick response! Secondly, does it mean that I would have to pluck out 1 of them? And is there any order or position I have to place them in? I had 4 sticks but 1 of it was spoilt so I took it out...
