Gtx 970 bad fps all of a sudden

my gpu was fine up until yesterday, i thought it was just the hardline beta but i tried battlefield 4 and im still getting really bad fps, i can only get 45 fps when i was getting 90+ on ultra before, what could be the issue.

Quote from: arronlowley on 10-February-15, 17:59:19
i was gonna get a new psu anyway, but i dont think thats the problem, firestrike test came back fine when my fps was low, i found someone on the nvidia forum with my exact same problem as me and the driver change worked for them too, i haven't tested it for long enough yet to deffo say its fixed but im about to do that now. also the h55 is enough to cool the i7, under load the max i get is 50 degrees, usually around 44. when i was getting low fps i looked and there was nothing unusual about the temps etc, it was just like the gpu was capped at 60 fps but dipping to 55 but after changing the drivers it shot back up.
Could have been a malfunction in driver then. Which is kind of weird since I'm using the driver 347.25 and have no problems with my fps. (GTX 970 Gaming 4G)
Probably just bad/corrupt installation.

Sorry about that. My board is supposedly more than capable of running this card. I don't understand why it would be the mobo. I also wasn't looking to build another computer =P Just upgrade on the current one. Guess I should return it?
First of all it's worth in testing in some newer computer with Ivy/Sandy Bridge or Haswell. Without this, you can't tell if it's bad GPU or compatibility issue.
However if it's compatibility, I'd return this card and go for 5 or 6 series.

Check Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone setting is also set correctly.
If that didn't solve the problem, restart your iPad and try again. If that fails, reset your iPad and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Hello I have a iPhone 5S all of a sudden my music that I have purchased only plays on 1 speaker.  I thought it was a bad audio cable so I brought it back to the store.  Only to have the same thing happen again. What is going on?

I have a iPhone 5s all of a sudden my music on my iPhone would only ply oit of one speaker in the car.  I thought it was the Audio Cable went and brought another Audio Cable and the same thing again.  I than plugged my son phone which is a NOTE 3 into the Audio Cable and it started playing fine.  I purchase all of my music from the Apple Store and one of the reasons is because I enjoy listening to my phone with my playlist inside my car.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Apple needs to fix this ASAP or refund me my money back for all the songs I purchased.

If you connect headphones to your 5s do you also hear music on from one side?
If yes get a light and inspect the headphone jack and clean out any dirt/debris/ etc. you find in there.
If that does not fix it you will need to get your iPhone replaceed under your warranty.

  • GTX 970 Problems

Hello, I am having a problem with the GTX 970.
Before you read this I would like to say I did try to put "prefer maximum performance" in NVIDIA control panel yet it still wants to conserve that power...
To save even more time reading this,
SUMMARY:I would like to know if there is some type of fix to totally disable nvidias power saving abilities.
Well, previously I owned a MSI R9 270X. It was a great card did what I wanted it to do.. and never cried to hard when I pushed it..
Now I bought a GTX 970 to replace it. Those games that ran smooth with the 270X, stutters with the GTX 970.
Obviously I went to investigate why this happend. It is because the GTX 970 has bad power management (or nvidia thinks it was good, but really hurts the card and should have a kill switch for it  )
The stutters are caused when GPU load is high, then the GPU load falls to idle levels quickly due to a change in scene (A DIGITAL SIGNAL TYPE OF FALL SERIOUSLY?) or a low graphics intensive area, then at that low load, the game throws a l lot of tasks at it and the card seems to be caught off guard by the sudden jump in tasks it needs to perform causing the stuttering as it tries to throw itself back up to perform well again.
The 270X does not ( or at least this is what I think. I could be wrong) have any stutters because it assesses that the highest load that the game will be and should be the load that it stays at at all times (OR Power Consumption which ever one controls all)...
    Turn down for what???
Nvidia (power efficiency at the cost of performance)
    AMD (stays turned up)
    JJ WATT (Stays turned up)
    Thanks for the help guys..

what is your driver and vbios version ?
Try update to the latest one?
You could try to use afterburner, and set "Force constant voltage".
but it may disable the self protecting function of the card, you have to doing this at your own risk.

  • GTX 970 PC Crashing (Started since I played GTA V and it crashed)

This all started 2 days ago while I was playing GTA V. Someone recommended installing Afterburner to look at my CPU and GPU usage while in game. Once the program was installed I was trying to understand how it worked, and I was looking at the sliders in the middle. I attempted to move one as it looked as if the changed had to be applied by the tick button, I moved it a tiny amount tot the right and suddenly my PC decided it would start to lag. So, I just put it back to where it was and left it (without pressing the tick)
I have no idea if the above is actually relevant, but I never experienced any issues before then. The next day I went onto GTA V to play it again, and after a few minutes in the middle of a car chase where a lot was going on my game exited with the error message... err_gfx_d3d_init . This was followed by text saying: Failed Initialization. Please reboot and restart the game. Try re-installing the game if this persists. I am not prepared to download the 60gb game again unless it is outlined as the problem for sure, since I have a download speed of 700kbps.
This kept happening but then it started to just shutdown my PC all together when this happened. This has now risen to the point of I had to unplug my graphics card as I would have no display while turning on my PC. My PC is now working fine with the exception of the graphics card. I have decided to try reinstalling the drivers which is something I am attempting to do right now (Update will be posted below).
    PC Specs:
    i7 4790k 4ghz
    16gb DDR3
    Asrock Z97 Pro4 Socket 1150
    Corsair RM 650W
MSI GTX 970 GAMING Twin Frozr V 4GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
If anyone has any suggestions that will help me and the rest of the GTA V gaming community about these crashes then it would be hugely appreciated.

    Hey guys,
I'm having the EXACT same error. I don't know what to do anymore. I purchased newer faster RAM to see if it was a case of overloaded forcing a shutdown of the game?
I upgraded from 8Gb to 16Gb, anyways.. It didn't work.
Essentially, game crashes, I get the "D3D_INIT" error asking me to reinstall and nothing has changed, despite the clean re-installation of drivers and the game alike I am getting really frustrated with this especially when it drops during something like a 'Heist'. I've followed countless forums posts on here and 'Tomshardware.com' and the rest. I'm currently trying to make up my mind of whether or not to return the card since it's obviously not up to the job.
I would really appreciate some help on this.
I haven't changed any settings as its factory set and OC'd (Maxwell Edition).
    Current set up:
    MoBo: MSi Gaming 5, Z97
    CPU: Intel i7 4790k @ 4.4Ghz (Factory/MoBo Turbo)
GPU: Single MSI GTX 970, Maxwell Edition
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8Gb @ 1866Mhz
    Storage:
    1x 120Gb SSD (w/ OS)
2x 2Tb HDD (Junk and the rest)
I really need help with this one guys. I went out to purchase the new GPU for the purpose of the newer gen games and it's been a massive let down!

  • PC restarts when running games since GTX 970 install

    Hi all,
my PC build is 4 years old and has been stable until I replaced a Radeon 6950 with a GTX 970 last night. Am I missing something or is my card defective?
All drivers are up to date, and I used the GeForce Experience to "optimize" graphic settings in these games.
Crashes (sudden PC shutdown and restart) only occur occasionally, only when in-game:
Bioshock Infinite (in menu, once). Proceeded into gameplay (20 minutes) without problems.
Heroes of the Storm (in game, 3 times during a 2 hour session). Some games ran fine.
World of Warcraft (once, after tabbing back from the desktop).
Evolve (once, while one of the monster intro videos was playing).
    PC Specs:
    Windows 7
    i5 2500k @ 3.3 (I previously had it a 4.4, but bumped it back down. Still crashing).
    Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
    Crucial M4 128GB SSD
    4 Hard Drives
    Corsair Professional 850W Power Supply

    Hi
Your motherboard running latest BIOS? Ask asus for this.
Is your RAM factory matched (all 4 slots in one box) or 2x 2x4GB ? Try with single RAM stick/kit.
Try to completely uninstall AMD drivers and nvidia. Then reinstall nvidia.
    Install >>Driver Fusion<<
Go into Safe Mode, run Driver Fusion and remove all amd and nvidia drivers.
    Reboot.
Install nvidia drivers. Then reboot and try again with games.

  • GTX 970 Gaming 4G can't overclock above 1398MHz

Hi, I was trying to use MSI Afterburner to overclock the GTX 970 GAMING 4G to around 1411MHz (+120 above 1291MHz) but the card seems to downclock to 1398MHz all the time. I've checked if this is due to insufficient voltage but power maxes out at 90% while the voltage hits 1.2v at 1401MHz for a short while before falling to 1.18v at 1398MHz. I've increased the Temp. Limit to 87 degrees (linked to a power limit of 107%) but it seems like the card won't go above 80 degrees. Please help.

OC is a plastic lottery. I just got MSI Gaming 780Ti and it handled +250 Core clock and +600Mem clock. Not sure if that is good or bad but in OCCT gpu stress test it gave me around 30fps more compared to stock clocks (gaming mode) yet the card was around 63 with fans at 40% (it is damn extremely cool!!).
Cool the card enough first so it doesnt go above 75. Else the OC might be successful but will throttle due to high temp

  • GTX 970 4G gaming issues

    Hey all,
I just picked this awesome card up yesterday and figured to give it a try in BF4. I made sure all the drivers were updated with Nvidia Experience and that everything was set to go. I set all the graphics settings in the game to ultra and began to play. Every 5-15 seconds my fps goes from roughly 80-60 down to 0, it freezes my screen for about a second then the fps jumps back up. It will do that or have a decrease of 20-40 fps then it'll go back up. I wasn't sure what was causing it, so I lowered my settings to "Low" just to see what it would do. I still get a stuttering, but not a total freeze. When it's not doing this it performs beyond my wildest dreams.
What could be causing this and what could I try to fix it?
    Here's a link to my rom: hxxps://www.dropbox.com/sh/segf4dbqkd1ix6t/AABM8sRxkB3j-B-h0pGgqL-ra?dl=0
    Serial number: 602-V316-09SB1410040906
    System specs: Intel i7-3770 (OC'd to 4.1ghz)
      Ram: 8gb 1886mhz
      HD: 500gb Black WD
      Cooling: Corsair H100i
      Display: Viewsonic IPS display
      Graphics: MSI GTX-970 4G

    I see you're running GSkills.
Run Memtest and see if it reports any issues.
Also try playing game(s) without any OC (CPU+RAM). CPU back to stock clocks, RAM down to 1600MHz. Might be helpful to clear CMOS: >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Note down your OC settings so you don't have to "dig" for these again after setting BIOS back to defaults.
Are you able to test different PSU?
Could you also try running some benchmark?
What are the temps of the GPU and CPU under load?
What resolution are you running at, and what video cable do you use?
And I suggest you try updating your BIOS to the latest BETA if above doesn't help:

  • Can't OC my MSI GTX 970 GAMING

I had MSI GTX 970 GAMING which OC-ed very well (1540 Mhz boost) but had to return it because of loud coil whine. I bought second MSI card which is silent but can't OC it even by +50 Mhz in Afterburner because it drops gpu clock to default value in Valley benchmark after couple of minutes of testing. Do you know what is the reason of that?

Quote from: flobelix on 17-October-14, 15:48:18
Everything has been said above. As the reboot issue is no issue if using working clockrates there is still no problem.
You really don't see the issue with contributing to a thread about overclocking with the answer "Don't overclock and there isn't a problem"?
Flobelix, I'm not asking for a refund here.
I don't want a new card via RMA, and I'm not saying my card is bad in any way.
If it works at the shipped clocks just fine, then it's clearly fine. That's all that's promised anyway.
But I didn't come to a forum and post in this topic about overclocking to be shut down for talking about overclocking.
    I'm looking for discussion.
I already said if someone felt my issue was sufficiently different than the OP I'd happily make a new thread.
If that's not the case, then I think I'm well within the bounds of exactly what this thread is about.

  • MSI GTX 970 Gaming - monitoring both fans

Is there a way to monitor the RPM of both fans on then GTX 970 Gaming card.
MSI Afterburner monitors only one fan
... this would also help to determine when the 2nd fan is spinning while the 1st fan
has stopped and Aferburner is reporting 0 RPM.

Neither HWinfo nor Speedfan show GPU fan speed at all ...OpenHardwareMonitor at lease shows the fan speed %
but only for one fan, Afterburner provides both the fan RPM and the % speed, but only for one fan.
Too bad both fans could not be monitored ...would be pretty useful.

  • GTX 970 4G Gaming not underclocking in idle

So, I suddenly got this little issue after trying to to play few f2p mmos, which totally made my computer go crazy when launched, few days ago.
Basically, the gpu won't go under 899Mhz, down to 135Mhz, anymore.
Of course have rebooted, tried reinstalling MSI Gaming App and the NVidia drivers.
Is there some power-saving options somewhere which may have gotten resetted, and which affect the underclocking?

Quote from: TZBC on 05-March-15, 07:55:31
What f2p mmos games you tried to play?
Check if any files related to the f2p mmos remains in your system and delete it.
Try clear CMOS and reseat your GTX 970 4G Gaming.
Gonna try to take out and reseat the card. Probably won't try the CMOS clearing. I don't really like to do it except in total necessity.
And this isn't one. The card still stays cool enough after all (under 60celsius).
Also, cleaned the directories and registry keys so those games shouldn't have anything left anymore.
Quote from: chris on 05-March-15, 10:06:17
    Do you have multiple monitors?
I do have multiple monitors (2 + tv) but that hasn't mattered before. It was only after the games caused the whole system become unstable. (really old games, from 2006-2008).
They are called ASDA Story 2 and Drift City.
Especially the ASDA 2 was horrible. It made the whole Windows freeze from time to time.
Which, I guess may have been caused by the anti-hack they have: nProtect's GameGuard. It most likely completely blocked several system programs. Including the NVidia driver.
The anti-hack program is gone, but I guess after effects still apply until the card is taken out/system is reinstalled.

  • GTX 970 not working the way it should.

Hello, I bought a msi gtx 970 yesterday but it is not working good. I can not even play league of legends without stuttering. When I play on maximum settings it says 60 fps, but in fact it is stuttering. The memory clock keeps shooting up to 3506 and than goes down again, this keeps happening. When I had call of duty advanced warfare open for 10 minutes, not even being in a game, the gpu usage is 98% and the memory use is extremely high, while nothing is happening on the screen, just some menus.
All drivers are downloaded and previous drivers from my old video card are removed.
    These are my pc specs.
    i5 760 @ 2,8 GHz
    msi gtx 970
    8gb DDR3 RAM
    Asustek V-P7H55E motherboard
    Windows 8.1 64 bit
Hope someone can help me out.

My current 780Ti is getting bottleneck by the CPU I have.. so even worse would be if I'd have 970 or 980..
That's because yours is the T version. It's not even nearly as good as the normal 4670 or K version.
Actually, it the lowest of the versions. Even S version would be better.
With normal 4670 and 4670K you wouldn't be getting bottleneck.
    Quote from: lucas-1996 on 09-February-15, 22:07:05
I have one more question. I cant really decide if I shall get the i5-4690k for my new motherboard or the i7-4790k. Is the i7 worth the 100 euro extra? I dont do things like photoshop, maybe a bit of streaming though.
What kind of cooling you have currently, or are you using stock cooler?
If you don't have sufficient cooler or are running stock cooler, you will need to invest on better cooling.
In which case, get the i5 4670K and buy a new, better cooler with that 100$.
I would recommend at least Hydro H80i if you have a free 120mm fan slot in the case.
If not, get the BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 or similar.

  • GTX 970 Causes APP 8.1 Instability

Good news: Upgrading from a GTS 450 to the GTX 970 allowed to view smooth playback on my 6k Dragon footage on the APP timeline.
Bad news: APP seems to want to crash a lot now, and my system flickers sometimes then goes to black and I have to cold reboot.
Did I get a bad card? Running the very latest vid drivers.
    System on Win 8.1
    i7 3770 3.9Ghz
    32 GB DD3 RAM
    Asrock MB
Disk system ~800 MB/s Sequential Read on separate SSD and SATA RAID 0 arrays

The problem seems to happen even in a new project with a basic time-lapse JPEG sequence. APP crashes. Also Photoshop crashes when opening DNGs in PS from LR. This didn't happen with my previous card.
Had downloaded the latest drivers. Even re-installed them and chose the "clean all previous installations" option.
Take the card back? Maybe this is a good excuse to get the 980 anyway. Only problem is everyone seems to be sold out of 970s and 980s, the only available was the 970 in a EVGA flavor that was reviewed poorly relative to other vendor implementations.
