Guarantee of a Blackberry

Hello, I'm Gonzalo from Argentina, and i writing this to ask you some questions about the guarantee of a Blackberry 8520 and some problems that i have with the carrier.
First of all, i bought a BlackBerry 8520 on February 23rd 2010 at Claro Argentina (My phone carrier), the phone worked very well until on the last week of December 2010, it's keyboard started to fail. Claro Argentina changed my Blackberry with another one on January 5th 2011 and said me that i have one year guarantee of this new phone that was in exchange with the faulty one. Well last week, exactly August 30th 2011, this Blackberry started to show a message at its start up, it says uncaught exception about a mime type registration, after that i was unable to open any music or video file. So i decided to go with my carrier. There at my carrier office, a salesman told me that my Blackberry havent got any guarantee, that it is covered with guarantee of my previous Blackberry (That was changed on January 5th), and its guarantee was expired. At the afternoon of the same day, my sister went to the same office and talk with another salesman because she went to retire her Blackberry because it had problems and it was in guarantee. When the salesman called Maria Eugenia, gave my sister a new phone, she said that the new one has one year of guarantee from the day that it is delivered. So i gave my Blackberry for guarantee and this time, the salesman take it. The next day August 31st, i went the the Claro's Office to retire my phone repaired, they made a reset of the firmware, or they told me that. At the afternoon of the same day, the problem appeared again, so i went again to my carrier office to gave my phone for repair in guarantee. But again they said me that it wasnt in guarantee, because the guarantee is from my first blackberry.
Well after all the history, i denounced them because they don't recognize the guarantee of a product that is guarantee. The purpose of this post is to ask if this Blackberry is in guarantee or not, i dont have any problem to provide you all the data you need to check the guarantee of this phone. I don't know if this is the right way to ask help, but is the only way i found because here in Argentina, i dont any Blackberry official Support to ask for help.
Also i want to ask another thing that i saw on my sister's blackberry, by the way, it's a 8220. At its back cover of the battery, it says in spanish that it is a refubished product (in spanish: "Producto reacondicionado"), when our carrier Claro changed the phone using the guarantee of the product, not supposed to be exchanged for new one, instead of a refubished one.
Again, i dont know if it is the right way to ask for help, i dont have any problem, to send another email o make a call, o go to somewhere here in Argentina. All i want is the true. I'm a Electronic Technician and a System's Engineering student and i know a great deal of this devices.
Thanks for the help, and excuse me for my English if i dont express my problem very well.

Does it show under Options | Status as a WLAN Mac Address?

  • Traveling to the UK - GSM/CDMA Confusion

Everything I've read online tells me that the Droid Bionic isn't capable of using the GSM network in the UK (where I am traveling). This includes the VZW Trip Planner, which tells me my phone won't work in the UK. However, when I called Verizon's Global Services, the representative I spoke with told me that my phone would indeed work. I'd like to get this figured out before my trip as it's one less thing to worry about while there. Was she mistaken, or has something changed? Thanks for any insight you can provide...

I'm surprised someone at VZW Global Services told you a CDMA phone would work in the UK. In general, Verizon's phones don't work on GSM networks. I don't know anything specifically about the Bionic, though. Perhaps it could get EVDO service in the UK?
I recently traveled to the UK, and found it very easy to use Verizon's global services, which will basically give you a loaner to use while you're out of the country. It looks like you've found them already. What they will do is send you a replacement phone to use on your trip. You can activate it before you leave (which will deactivate the Bionic) and sync your contacts and calendar, either with Backup Assistant or via Google. When you get back, you just reactivate the Bionic and send back the loaner (FedEx prepaid by VZW).
They'll charge you about $20 to ship the global-usable phone back and forth. To my surprise, after I'd been back for a week or two I got an e-mail saying they were then refunding the $20! You'll need to look into signing up for a global voice plan and a global data plan, whose monthly fees are prorated for the actual time you have them on your account. The global voice plan will bring the cost of calls down from $1.29 to $.99/minute, still not cheap, but texts are fairly inexpensive.
On the whole I found this to be a pretty simple process, and the Global Services people I spoke with were knowledgeable. The only downside was that at the relatively late date I called to reserve my phone, they had no Androids available and I had to take a Blackberry. You should definitely contact them again, and if they still say the Bionic will work in the UK, nail down the exact details of what kind of network it will connect to and how speedy the data service will be. It won't be 4G, I guarantee. The Blackberry got 3G most of the time, but I will say that it was surprisingly spotty for being in the middle of London.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close

When I try to open Blackberry Desktop the message I get is that Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close.  I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 and as a result I cannot sync.  Does this mean I need to uninstall and reinstall?  If I reinstall will I lose the update that I have on my phone that has changed the interface?  Will I have to reinstall that as well?
Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.

Also, for XP users, please be sure you are on SP3...that is the current minimum level required with the latest Desktop Software.

  • Why is it so difficult to get an answer on how to connect a Blackberry Bold 9930 to a Windows 7 PC?

I've been jumping through hoops for days trying to get my brand new Blackberry Bold 9930 to connect to either of my two PCs. It will not connect to my new MacBook Pro or a new Windows 7 laptop. I am up to date on all software. This is very frustrating. Can anyone please help? I've read article after article and I cannot believe RIM does not post a fix for this. I've wasted hours trying to get this thing to work. It is no wonder people are moving away from Blackberry.

    Hello,
Well, it works just fine for many people...and there's no way to know, from your post, why it's not working for your specific situation...which quite naturally would preclude posting any sort of fix to your situation. From what you've said, all I can recommend is this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...

Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Of course, if we could know more about what exactly is going on in your situation, we might be able to provide you with better guidance...but from a report that basically boils down to "it's not working", there's really no direction to go in seeking out help for your specific situation. Details about exactly what you try and exactly what results may be more helpful.
Also, here is the list of other troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

I am currently running Windows 7 64-bit SP1. I have tried to installed Blackberry Desktop software using 710_b042_multilanguage.exe from your site.
Software appears to install without any problem. When I try to start up the software the blackberry splash screen appears without any issue. However after a short while a transparant window appears with Blackberry Desktop Software  on the title bar. I have Java 7.45.
Any ideas why it doesnt appear to be loading correctly?

  • Blackberry HUB "Show Read Filed Emails" ON AND OFF button SERIOUS Gmail PROBLEM NEED BUG FIX ASAP!

Its been for years (starting from 10OS Version 10.2 ) I couldn't see filed/labeled emails in my Z30/Z10 Blackberry HUB of my Gmail account, but I just downloaded Blackberry Blend and it started to show all my filed/labeled emails, but I still cant see them in my Blackberry HUB! Maybe you can tell me how to make Read Filed Emails visible in Blackberry HUB too?
Blackberry HUB >> Settings >> Display and Actions:
Show Read Filed Emails is ON
    Show Sent Emails is ON
Both are turned on, but I still cant see them like on Blackberry Blend.. On search field then I type specific email from filed/label from my Gmail account I immediately finds it, but then I go back to Blackberry HUB all I can see just emails from inbox and single sent emails and YES "SYNC ALL EMAIL FOLDERS" IS SET TO ON AND "SYNC TIMEFRAME" IS SET TO FOREVER (''Sync All Email Folders'' is set ON and ''Sync Timeframe'' is set FOREVER).
Here is picture of email settings:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/attachments/blackberry-10-os-f269/338662d1425451994-read-filed-messages...
I want to see all emails in devices Blackberry HUB like in Blackberry Blend desktop! What should I do to make it happen?
I find out that then I click on the Blackberry HUB > Settings > Display and Actions: "Show Read Filed Emails" to ON or OFF again and again, view in Blackberry Blend immediately changes in order I did ON or OFF, that's pretty amazing, but Blackberry HUB DOESN'T RESPOND AT ALL! View is the same doesn't matter if I change it ON or OFF.
View in Blackberry Blend starts to look the same like in phones Blackberry HUB then I click "Show Read Filed Emails" OFF, it looks like Blackberry HUB doesn't respond to ''Show Read Filed Emails'' ON and OFF button at all, ITS ALWAYS OFF! What should I do next??
I'm using Blackberry Z30, but I have Z10 too and it also doesn't work and it looks like this "Show Read Filed Emails" not working button bug is on all 10 OS devices except Blackberry Blend desktop version which works perfectly confirms it.
I'm using Gmail and I have latest Blackberry 10 OS version OFFICIAL 10.3.1.1565
Here is a picture how it looks then ''Show Read Filed Emails'' ON and OFF:
(first is OFF, second is ON)
    http://forums.crackberry.com/attachments/blackberry-10-os-f269/338513d1425416890-read-filed-messages...
As you can see then ''Show Read Filed Emails'' is ON, Blackberry Blend changes and I can see all my emails (and there are a lot of unread ones! (sorry I blurred some of my emails for privacy)), but in my devices Blackberry HUB there is no changes and its displaying the same thing like ''Show Read Filed Emails'' was OFF. I miss a lot of emails and its really annoying and I think you understand why.. Blackberry Blend desktop version is a savior today, but THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION!
    Any FIX suggestions ASAP?
    UPDATE:
I tried a lot of times to delete and sign in again and again, but it looks like only Blackberry Blend respond to every setting changes! Blackberry HUB doesn't respond AT ALL! Devices Blackberry HUB only show INBOX and SENT MESSAGES all the time, but if "Display Style" in Blackberry HUB is set to "Conversation" SENT MESSAGES disappear from devices Blackberry HUB too (in Blackberry Blend is everything FINE!) if they are part of CONVERSATION FILED/LABELS EMAILS!!
All issues I been searching all this years and everyone was blaming Gmail, but it looks like ALL THIS YEARS THIS WAS Blackberry HUB "Show Read Filed Emails" ON and OFF button BUG/PROBLEM which doesn't work on devices Blackberry HUB and today Blackberry Blend desktop version CONFIRMS IT!!
Yes Yahoo accounts FILED/LABELS EMAILS with devices Blackberry HUB works FINE, but Gmail - NOT and NEED FIX ASAP!

  • Heating Issue in BlackBerry 9220

Hey, I took my BlackBerry 9220 few days back and configured my enterprise mail. Post activation of enterprise mails my handset start heating some time due to which my battery got down. Kindly suggest some way if I can use enterprise mails without heating. Thanks.

    Hi,
I really don't think that the heating is anyway related to the activation of ur enterprise email...it might feel so cz the heating started after the activation only...actually, the issue is with the battery and the issue started at the same time when u activated ur email...had u not activated the mails at that time, then also the issue wud hve appeared.
I would suggest to replace the battery if thats still in guarantee(normally, BB batteries hve 6 month of warrenty)...that should solve the prob...

  • I believe my BlackBerry has been HACKED

This may sound crazy. I've been using Blackberry for 7 years and have never encountered something like this. I woke up to my alarm last week and as I reached for it I noticed a messaged had popped up on my screen that said "Your phone has been hacked" with an exclamation mark inside a Triangle beside it. I read the msg at the same moment I touched my phone to turn off my alarm and the message disapearred. Rubbing my eyes I thought I was seeing things.
Last night Microsoft outlook mailed me to inform me my account had been accessed from another country. I changed ALL my passwords immediately and ONLY entered the new passwords into my Blackberry to re-sync my accounts. An hour ago I just got an email from a different email account saying my other email had been accessed. But the ONLY place I'd entered the NEW password for this other email account had been on my blackberry. Whoever accessed my other account already had my NEW password, and the only place I entered that new password was on my blackberry device.
I now believe the message I saw on my phone that morning was actually there and I don't know what to do! Is it possible for a Blackberry to display that message to a user? Please help!

If the messages are in your email, these are very common scams.
If you have a popup directly on your desktop of the Blackberry phone when not running an application this is very strange. This should never happen!  If it is in an email, then it is obvious it is email content. If the popup is in a software then it is the software that is the problem.
If I was to see a popup on the desktop of a Blackberry device, I would wipe the phone and re-install the operating system. Using the Link software backup the user files first. If your data is not important you can skip the backup. First make sure your phone is synced with some type of service to preserve your email addresses.  You can re-install the OS using the Link software. This is sort of a long process, but not too difficult to do.
I know a lot of people including myself who get these scams.  I just hope you never answered to any of these, and NEVER clicked on any links and fill out their forms.
With your Blackberry phone, as long you use original Blackberry software and NEVER follow instrcutions from Scam email you should be safe. If you ever filled out any of these Scam forms you very quickly must change your passwords.
With your phone or computer NEVER open any emails, and especially attachments unless you are sure the source is safe.
The email services, financial services, operating systems services, and distributors will never send you emails asking about passwords and personal information.  The only time you would receive an email from any of these services is if you solicited to have an email from them.
If you are installing Android software be cautious. Many Android programs can be a security issue with the phone. The whole idea of the Blackberry phone is for the security. Using Android software does add some risk.
I have been told the safest download sites are 1mobile and Amazon for Android programs to be used on the Blackberry phone. But, there are no absolute guarantees.
When I first got my Passport, I tried an Android software that looked interesting to me.  I downloaded it from the Google server for Android programs. The phone started to work very slow, and the program was displaying banners on the screen when I was using the program. It was a free chess game. I tried to uninstall this game and it would not go out!  I had a backup from before I installed this program. The best I could do to get rid of it was to wipe the phone and re-install the OS. This fixed it.
I hope all this helps you out. I am a user like anyone else, and when i have time I participate in these groups. In my family we have a lot of Blackberry phones. We like this phone a lot.

  • Connector specific error - blackberry bold 9790 - desktop software version 6.1 and outlook 2010

    Hi there
I've recently upgraded my business partners' outlook from 2007 to 2010.  In doing so we've had a corrupt profile which we have had to delete and then replace with a new one.  In doing so his outlook started working again but now his blackberry isn't synching the calendar entries.
    Here's the basics:
    - Bberry model - Bold 9790
    - Bberry operating system - Blackberry's latest (7.1 I think)
    - Blackberry desktop software 6.1 - this is intentional as we have found in the newer version of hte desktop software that we cannot map our teamsite calendar from outlook and sync the entries
    - Outlook version 2010
    - Calendars we are trying to sync are a personal one from a pst folder and a teamsite one from sharepoint linked to our microsoft exchange set up.
The error we are getting is a 'connector specific error'
I have worked with him to create the PTtrace.log and tif.log files.  I've gotten reams of pages; but the errors on todays date (when the problem began) have come up with error 4238, 113, and 12.  We have tried un-installing and re-installing 6.1 as well and no luck.  We have re-set the configuration setup and re-mapped folders; chosen the new outlook profile, etc and still keep getting same error.
I'm now starting to think that there is a problem with the mapi profile as a start and wonder if outlook needs to repair itself or whether we are getting the error because of a duplicate entry somewhere (though if you asked me to tell you where from the logs I couldn't identify it).
I'm litterally tearing my hair out because my poor business partner lives and dies by his blackberry.  Really want to try to get this resolved; but need some help and suggestions as I've tried most of the main causes and fixes.
Any assistance would really be appreciated so I can put him and myself out of our misery.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cel

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case!

Your suspicion about the MAPI Profile may well be warranted, in which case this KB might be useful.

  • Can't Install Blackberry Desktop Manager - error 1303

Trying to install desktop manager and I get error message  "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to acces this directory: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry\1003. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."
I am running Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1.
Any ideas please?  I am the administrator.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I can find no formal reference to that error...perhaps you may have better luck searching:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
    Otherwise, I suggest this thread:

You may need to use the actual administrator account or an account with admin rights, and/or use the Run As Administrator option.
    Good luck!

I have de-activated the windows checking for solutions to never, as i read this in another post, but that still doesnt solve it.

    Hello,
You seem perhaps to already have tried at least some of what is discussed in this thread, but I cannot tell if you've truly tried it all...therefore, I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...

Otherwise, it really sounds like you have some major conflict or issues with your Windows OS itself. While quite rare, it's not unheard of needing to completely reinstall Windows so as to get things working well. But, before you resort to that, you should do all of the normal Windows stuff -- Windows updates, check all of your apps for updates, run registry cleansers, run full virus scans, run malware detectors, etc. etc. etc. This very much sounds like a PC/Windows problem more than a Desktop Software problem.
    Good luck!
