Guest Account Parental Controls

Hey there! So everytime I log into my guest account, Safari has parental controls turned on for some reason. I logged into my account (Admin), and it doesnt look like there is anywhere that I can turn them off. Is it possible to disable parental controls for my guest account, or do I just need to create a second account?
Thanks!

Most odd.  On my guest account it will not let me activate parental controls.  The checkbox will not stay checked.  I started another thread on this several days ago, but got no replies.  Now you have the opposite problem.

Post this in the iTunes forum since this is an issue related to iTunes and not an iPod Classic.

  • User Account Can't access internet once parental controls used, even after turning off parental controls

I set up a user account for my child. I am able to access the internet through firefox. I then set up parental controls and can NOT access the internet anymore. I turn off parental controls for that user account. I still can not access the internet from that account.

Parental controls is a part of the Windows operating system and not Firefox. You can get help here: http://support.microsoft.com/ask-community/windows/

  • Safari can't connect to server with parental controls on

I have one user with admin rights and one user plus guest with parental controls turned on. Recently when parental controls are turned on, I get 'safari can't connect to server' error. When I turn parental controls off again I can connect to the internet again. Why is this?

    Hi and welcome....
Unfortunately, Parental Controls can only be enabled on a non admin account.
See if there's a proxy set up for Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click "Change Settings" next to: Proxies.
That will launch System Preferences / Network - Proxies.
If there are any boxes checked under: Select a protocol to configure, deselect the box then click Ok.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.
See if Safari can connect in a parental controlled user account.

  • Faulty Parental Controls & Proxy usage

    Dear all,
    the follow problem concerns:
    - Guest user account, Parental Control, Proxy usage, Safari
Plattform: MacOS 10.7.4 with all updates installed
The Problem occurs with the following steps:
    >> 1. Fresh Install of MacOS 10.7.4, Update Installation and create a normal Guest user using the control panel
    >> 2. Configuring a proxy on the wired Interface via the control panel. Fixed Proxy.
    >> 3. Testing the Preferences made as Admin user without restrictions, everything works fine as it should.
    >> Firefox => Running without Problems.
    >> 4. At this this Time Parental Controls for the Guest user are inactive.
    >> 5. Logoff the Admin user, relogin with the guest user, everythings fine. Internet Acces works with Safari and Firefox.
    >> 6. Logoff as Guest and relogin as Admin.
    >> 7. Now we're activating Parental Controls WITHOUT ANY RESTRICTIONS for Webaccess for the Guest user
    >> 8. Logoff Admin and login as Guest user ...
    >> 9. There's no Internet Access at all for anything the Safari and Firefox prompt "The Connection has been reset" ...
Seems that some Programmer at Apple desgined a faulty Parental Control ...
=> What do you think ? Any suggestions any idea how to fix that problem
About the Background:   The solution mentioned should be deployed in a School with ~ 150 Macs ... And the only thing stopping us from deploying Lion is that fault mentioned above ...
    Thanks in advance,
    Markus

Thank you for your help! I work for a school district and teach digital video course in a magnet program. We purchased 11 new iMacs with the Lion OS and every single one of those new iMac computers had the exact problem when the parental control panel is set and you have to use a proxy setting. None of the computers would allow Internet access in those student user accounts.
I have been stuck since May 2012 for an Apple fix. We buy our Apple products with a three year Apple Plan and they have been pretty much useless! I had to take one of the computers twice to the Apple store Genius and they could not do anything.  I called their online support and they asked me to run a special program they sent me to trace and download the debug routine results. They sent me an email to confirm that indeed it was an Apple OS bug and not anything on my part! It's like telling me I'm not an idiot.
Well, that was in early June 2012 and it is September 2012 still with no fix and several poor responses like, "we don't have a fix and if we do, we will sent out a patch. So, no need for you to call!"  So much for the other 20 new machines we were planning to add.
I will try you fix to see if it works. Thanks again.

  • Is there a way to retrieve messages denied by Parental controls?

I'll deal with how this happened later, but somehow my parental controls for my kid's email alias started applying to my email account and alias. (at least I think that's what happened). Is there anyway to retrieve emails from the last several days that apparently may have been rejected by parental controls?
Your help is MUCH appreciated. Here I thought I was one of those 2% experiencing difficuluties on .mac and was waiting patiently only to discover this madness.

What does your  > Sys Prefs > Accounts > {your account} > Parental Controls have in place now?
If necessary, try removing (only temporarily) any Parental controls put in place on the kid's account, see if that fixes your problem on your Mail account, then re-establish those controls on the kid's account.
If the mails that you were expecting are not on the server, i.e., outright rejected/bounced, probably not much you can do about those except ask the senders to resend.
Be sure to doublecheck the kid's account info, like making sure (s)he is not using your login username.

  • How do I turn all parental controls off PERMANANTLY?! urgent PLEASE help

I was playing around on the computer when i stumbled upon "parental controls." I clicked on the control for iChat, and it acted like a parental control. but when i unclicked the control because i wanted to go back to iChat, all my buddies were back, but NONE of them were online, which is impossible because not even the robots were online, or some of my friends who are always on at this time. How do I fix it to get my buddies back?! *PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!!!*

    Hi,
Only an Admin Account can turns Off Parental Controls.
Go to System Preferences > Parental Controls.
Set the controls Back to the basic defaults and then set Parental Controls to be Deselected.
Then go to System Preferences > Accounts and then click the Padlock if required.
    Enter the Admin Password.
Now click on the User Account that you are Logged on to the computer with. (Or the one that had Parental Controls set).
Make sure Parental Controls is Off here as well.
This should make the Buddy list respond properly.
    NOTES
IF you have a Test Mac User Account and use the Same Screen Name in iChat in both User Accounts the Test account Parental Controls will flag your Account/Screen Name at AIM and will be effected in the normal User Account buddy List.
In iChat 3 and 4 Parental Control for iChat disable Bonjour Chatting and Jabber/GoogleTalk Buddy Lists

  • If I were to set up Parental Controls for the only user on a MacBook, would I need to create another, separate account?

    Parental controls

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It is not possible to set parental control on the administrator account, so you have two choices: create a new user account to apply parental control or use the Guest user for that. You can set parental control in System Preferences -> Parental Control

  • Cannot enable parental controls for Guest if FileVault enabled

FileVault is enabled on my Mac.  When I subsequently enabled Find My Mac, the Guest User account was automatically enabled, as it is required for Find My Mac's theft recovery feature. When I accessed the Guest User in the Users & Groups Preferences panel, the "Enable parental controls" option for Guest User was greyed out.  Thus, anyone with physical access to my computer, such as my kid, can gain unfettered access to the Internet without a password.
I did find a solution.  I unchecked the "Allow guests to log in to this computer" box in the Preferences panel.  This caused the "Enable parental controls" box to become checked (seems to be a bug).  I then checked the "Allow guests to log in to this computer" box, which caused the "Enable parental controls" box to become unchecked.  At this point, the "Enable parental controls" box was no longer greyed out, and I was able to check it.
System: Late 2014 Retina iMac with 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB memory, OS 10.10

Update: Although the method above appeared to enable parental controls, they do not work.  When I log in as Guest (causing the computer to reboot into Safari-only mode), I am able to access a very well-known adult website (play*** dot com).

  • Restoring Parental Controls for Guests

So I stumbled across the Security features on my Macbook Pro. My kid's been bothering me to play with my Mac. But, I was worried about him running across the "evils" of the internet that daddy regularly "stumbles" across.
Anyway, I enabled a guest account and then activated Parental Controls. But, foolishly, I saw a minus sign over the "Other" tab and clicked it, believing it would expand. Instead, the minus sign disappeared. So I clicked it again, and now there's a check mark there. When I finally expanded it, there was a whole slew of programs that asked me whether I wanted to allow the Guest access to them. But, I never got to see what the default settings were. Also, I have no idea what many of these programs do, whether they are vital or not.
Basically, I just want to know what the default Parental Control settings were, under the "Other" folder.
Also, how do you create additional "guest" accounts. I figured my two older boys (6-8) would appreciate their "own" accounts. You know, kids like to think they have something special just for them.
I tried to name that Guest account but got freaked by the warning that any changes may make the account unusable. I'm guessing that that first Guest account cannot be deleted or modified, right?
    Thanks.

But does anyone know the default Parental Controls Settings, specifically under the Other tab?
you can find them out yourself. make a new account and enable parental controls on it. then expand "other" and see what's checked and what's not checked.

  • MacBook Pro 15 (Late 2013) - OS X Parental Control Account keep showing in Arabic language!

    Hello,
I brought MacBook Pro 15 (late 2013) at local Apple Store. After setting up Mac, I observed that in Parental Controls, the default account name is showing in Arabic language. I verified Mac language settings and are set to English.
No 3rd party apps installed except Microsoft Office, Adobe Flash Player and VLC Media Player.
Is this new kind of malware?
Any further help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Guest User Account Advanced Properties

  • I made my main account a parental control account and when I accessed the account created as admin, at the Parental Control options I deleted my main account and now I can't get back in it. I need help with this problem.

I made my administrator account a parental control account, at the time of creating it, the system asked for my administrator password, to restart the computer, and the new account was created. When I accessed that account at the parental control menu I could see my main account on the list and i deleted the account from that list, and now i'm trying to get back to it but I'm not able to because every time i restart the computer brings me back to the account I created. I searched for help on the web and it says to go to users and select the account I want to restore but I can't do it. Please help.

User account – restore missing admin

  • Really confused here. I have somehow created both a managed account and an administrator account. The admin acct is now highlighted in system preferences. We are now blocked from using our computer because parental controls keeps popping up.

In attempting to add a music lesson program for my daughters band lessons we have messed up our computer. I now have both a managed account and an administrator account (both in my name).  It is using the managed account now and not letting use the Internet because parental controls keep popping up. I would like to delete the managed account and get back to the admin account but I have no idea what my login is for the admin account. We have never had to use it before this problem started and what we thought it was when we set it up does not work. Any ideas?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know that account password, the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.

  • How do I allow parental controlled users to access third party apps on the admin account?

I just set my son up with a separate parental controlled user account and he can't seem to access some third party games that we installed for him under my admin account. He has saved progress on these games that we don't want to lose, so I don't want to reinstall them. I checked them off as allowed apps, but when he tries to play- the game icon shows up in the doc then changes to the updater icon and they won't run. I've searched for answers to this question, but can't seem to find any. Please help? My son and I would be very grateful!

Thank you so much for the quick response to my question.  I tested your directions and it works!!  Thank you.  I would never have figured that out.  I knew I had to go into System Preferences but would not have guessed that I needed to have Automatic Login set to off.
