Guest account pictures

How do I assign a picture for my guest account?

In 10.5, it's possible to use Workgroup Manager (part of the Leopard Server Admin Tools download) to change the guest account icon.
I don't know if this still works in 10.6, but you could download the 10.6 server admin tools and give it a shot.

  • Changing the Guest Account Picture

Someone using a guest account was playing with Photobooth and changed the Account Picture for the Guest Account in Leopard. I don't know how to change it back to the default picture, any ideas?

I'm still not caught up with the "DirectoryServices" form of user records that are now the default in "Leopard", but there are two properties that might be related to the user picture in the "login window". One is 'Picture' and the other is 'JPEGPhoto', of which the latter isn't present in every user record so I would suspect that one.
While logged in to an "admin" account, try launching "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering this command:<pre>
    sudo /usr/bin/dscl . -delete /users/Guest JPEGPhoto</pre>
Be careful entering the command since a space in the wrong place could delete the entire "Guest" account, or even wipe out all user records. Enter the "admin" user's password at the prompt (for security reasons, the keystrokes won't appear in the window - just press the "return" key when done).

  • Not possible to delete guest account's picture

Under Pref.Accounts, there are no pics for the Guest Account.
If enabling this account, there will be a pic in the log-in window for the guest account.
The pic is known, but I need to delete it, but cannot find it anywhere.
I duplicated one iMac from another, and this pic was on the first computer originally.

    This worked for me:
    1. Log in as Guest
    2. Close all Finder windows
    3. Make sure you are in the Finder (it should say “Finder” just to the right of the  logo in the menu bar
    4. Type ⇧⌘G (Shift-Command-G) and copy-paste the following:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/
    5. Open Address Book (this is where it's important you're logged in as Guest)
    6. Click on the “Guest Account” entry, and click the Edit button
    7. Double-click the picture
    8. Drag the UserIcon.icns file to the picture you want to replace and hit Return
    9. Log out of Guest completely

  • Moving iPhoto pictures to guest account's iPhoto Library.

Hi, i use a 2006 mac mini, and I was wondering how can I move or Draft all of my iphoto pictures onto my 2nd account's iPhoto library on my mac mini? Because i have a "guest" account so to speak, and was just wondering if there's anyway i can do it. Thanks.

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Guest account desktop picture

    Hi,
Is it possible to set a desktop picture for a guest account so that it isn't deleted upon log-out?
    Thanks

the only way to do that is to hack the user template used for creating new accounts. this is a hack so proceed at your own risk and BACK UP first

  • How to change the picture for guest account that was created by "find my mac"? Is it possible to change the photo?

I want to change the picture to my guest account that was created by "find my mac." I tried using the workspace type program but it did not recognize my guest account.  I am not sure what to do and need some help. Thanks!

I don't think there is a straight-forward way to do this. However, if the guest account is bothering you, you can disable it from within the System Preferences.

  • My MacBook Pro (mid 2010) won't startup correctly in my admin account, but works fine if I use the guest account...

My MacBook Pro (mid-2010) suddenly stopped working when I was overseas, but I managed to fix it when I returned back to the States after I reformatted and erased the disk, then installed Yosemite. I lost most of my files but didn't really care, though I noticed that some pictures from iPhoto had survived and were in the Trash folder.
I thought I could copy/paste them back into iPhoto, but it wouldn't let me since they were still in the trash. I started getting an error message for EACH PICTURE saying it couldn't be copied because it was in the trash, and when I realized that I'd have to click "ok" 644 times (once for each picture), I tried to restart, then shut down, and eventually forced a shut down by holding down the power button. This is where the problem started...
After trying to startup again, I was able to login to my admin account, and the desktop image would load, but I'd get the spinning rainbow wheel and the computer would remain frozen like that from then on. I tried to repair the disk (there was nothing wrong), and even re-installed the operating system again, but still the problem persists. BUT, if I login with my guest account, everything works fine.
I'm guessing it has something to do with it somehow being frozen on those error messages for those 600+ pictures, but I have no idea how to fix/unfreeze it. Any tips or suggestions?

Can the use of SATA3 instead of SATA2 hdd lead to some issues with my macbook?
I can try to find and buy new SATA2 sdd hdd but they are expensive and I'm not sure it will fix the restarting issue.
SATA3 is backwards compatible with SATA2.  That is not likely to be your problem.
Based on what you have done, I suggest a reinstall of the OSX.
    Ciao.

  • Lost all my photos in a guest account after Mavericks upgrade!! Retrievable?

Did the mavericks upgrade last night and I remember having to logout on the guest account and a window popped up that said I would lose all files if I logged out ..
I did not realize that meant all photos in Iphoto...
It was to be a long upgrade so I went to bed ..
This am ,I logged in my admin. acct and everything seemed to be in place including photos..
I logged in to the guest account and opened iphoto and was shocked to see there were no albums or photos there..
I did NOT do a back-up prior to the upgrade ,,,my BAD!!
Is it possible to recover the photos????
If so,could it be explained in total layman's terminology..
Thanks in advance for reading and hopefully helping>>

As you have discovered, the guest account doesn't save files, which is how it is designed to work. To make the library accessible from the guest account, you can move the library to the hard drive level User/Shared folder (see next post), which will make it accessible by all accounts. You will then need to tell iPhoto where to look for the library.
    From iPhoto help.
Move your iPhoto library to a new location
You can move your entire iPhoto library to a different computer, a hard disk, or another location on your computer.
Important:  Before you move your iPhoto library, it’s a good idea to back it up to a DVD or external hard disk.
    Hide
    Move your iPhoto library
If you’ve created multiple photo libraries, be sure to move only the library currently displayed when iPhoto is open. To move a different library, you first need to switch to it.
        Quit iPhoto.
In the Finder, choose your home folder (it’s usually named after you).
Open the Pictures folder (in the home folder) to locate the iPhoto Library file.
Drag the iPhoto Library file to a new location on your computer.
    Open iPhoto.
In the window that appears, select the library you want, and then click Choose.

  • Streaming from a Guest Account

    Hello,
I am wanting to have a friend watch a live stream from my mac connected with HDMI cable to my TV. I can get to safari, get to the web page, in this case ESPN2. However, live stream only gets as far as "loading." I never get it loaded.
So, I attempted to watch the stream using my account (main account) and it came thru beautifully. Is there a setting that allows users of the guest account to also connect to live streaming?
I have the guest account set restricted to certain apps (my mailbox, etc.) for personal reasons.
    Looking forward to reply.
    thank you

Hello, Teen Titan!!  OMG, I apologize for the extremely long delay.  After the streaming in March, April, have not streatmed since, except for this past weekend.  Managed  with the sound only from the MBP.
However, just yesterday  as your reply of April 4, 2011 suggests, I quit and re-opened Safari, but still no luck.  Must be some setting in my MBP that I am overlooking.  Reason I say this is because a friend of mine purchased for me the optical audio cable.  We streamed an ESPN2 site and beautiful sound from speakers!
Then, we went to another site, a YouTube site, but audio reverted back to sound coming  only from MBP.  Turned off  all equipment and turned on again.  Went to the ESPN2 streaming (thinking maybe it's a YouTube issue), but this time, ESPN2 streaming did not produce audio from MBP to the external speakers.   I don't understand why it streamed picture and sound  5 mintues earlier, but not again.
Thank you for your help!  I will troubleshoot more and if you have anymore to offer, please do so.

  • How do I turn off this new **** Guest account?

In upgrading to mountain lion I checked the 'back to my mac' option in the iCloud setup, this now has enabled a special "Guest User" account which reboots the computer into a locked down Safari-only mode to entice thieves to go online.
I don't want this.  I've disabled "back to my mac", but this account will not go away.
I've tried unchecking the "Allow guests to log into the computer", but it is greyed out and I'm not allowed to uncheck it, even after unlocking the settings.
Lion used to have a setting under Preferences->Security/Privacy->Advanced where you could set an option "Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked" to turn this off, but this setting is now gone in 10.8
At my wit's end, need to disable this login.
    Any ideas?

My two cents here if you please.
First, I have encountered this back in Lion. Now in ML as well. Let me break this into two parts:
    1. The cause:
IN MY CASE both on Lion and ML, the Guest Account login item appears after you share your folders when enabling Bak to My Mac feature. I have not used FileVault or created a guest user for any purpose. Just creating the shares leads to this.
    2. The cure:
    a) in Lion - exactly as described in this thread - by going to System Preferences / Security - and then unchecking the Restart Safari thing
    b) in ML - (PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS HOW IT WORKED IN MY CASE!!!) - System Preferences/Users&Groups (unlock the pane) - go to Guest User and here UNcheck "Allow guests to log in to this computer" AND "Allow guests to connect to shared folders" (please remember - you may have a different set of options, mine is such probably because I have sharing enabled).  Then, when you close System Preferences and restart the Mac, you should see only ONE user to log in (with picture, no need to manually type in the user name).
One more thing: just in case it mattes - I DO NOT have Find My Mac feature enabled, while ALL other iCloud features ARE enabled.
Hope this helps! Attached is the screen for your convenience.

  • How to change guest profile picture on Macbook Air?

There are two accounts on my MacBook air: My one, and a guest one. I understand that you can set a profile picture to come up on the log in screen for my account, and I would like to do the same for the guest account. How can I do this?
    Thanks

The guest user icon is a PNG file stored deep within OS X. I don't recommend you change operating system components that exist at that level though. Besides, the change is not likely to survive an OS X update.
If you really want to change it I'll post its location, but you'll be on your own if something breaks.
Edit: You'd be facing the same problem as in your other question: How to change folder symbol on desktop back to original? Modifying the Mac's basic user interface fundamentals can result in instability. If you want to perform that sort of customization anyway, always have a backup strategy in case something goes wrong. To learn how to back up and restore read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.

  • How to lock account picture

I need to create a user account for several pupils. I don't want them to change the account picture.
How do I lock the picture.
I Know there is this Guest Account, I am not talking about that.
    Please help.
    Mikko

    Thanks.
Could you be a little more specific.
If I put Parental controls on, then the user can still change the account picture.

  • ISE guest accounts

    Hello,
is it possible to print more than one guest account data at one time?
    Best regards,
    Markus

    Markus,
The best way to accomplish this is to do it when you create the guest accounts.  Once you create the Random Guest accounts in the Sponsor Portal, you are given a "Success" screen as shown here:
Click the Print option highlighted in the picture above and you will get this:
Which you can then print out.
    I hope this helps.

  • Guest account needs adminstrator's name/password to save to external harddrive.

My brother has a guest account on my iMac. He now has an external harddrive to save his home folder to now and again so he can back-up his music and pictures etc, but each time he attempts to do so he is asked for the adminstrator's name and password. Why is this? Can it be changed? And if so, how?

I'm having a similar problem, since the 10.5.1 upgrade (I downloaded the 110MB version, as Apple readily admits that there are problems when using Software Update for upgrades).
I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions on my boot drive, and it prompted me for my administrator password (something that I've only had to do since the upgrade to 10.5). This time, the user name was blank (usually it fills in the user name with the account name I'm logged in under). I entered the information, and got the error. Double checked everything, and still no luck. After a third attempt, I was told I had to wait a while before trying again.
I'm hoping there's some simple fix or something I can easily to type in. I don't want to wait a few more weeks for Apple to release another patch, and I don't want to have to step back to an even more unstable version so I can use Disk Utility.
