  • Extending same network in 2 different rooms using 2 wireless linksys routers

    I hope someone can help.
    I have a Linksys e3000 and a Linksys WRT120N
Very simple setup. the 3000 is in my office. There is a cable that goes from this router
to the living room across the house, it is just laying there. Since I cannot get a wireless signal into that room,
I would like, using the cable that is hanging there to make use of the other linksys and provide a wireless signal
to the living room, all under the same network. In essence, extending the wireless network using the cable in the living room that is connected to the main router in my office.
My question is, without touching the master router, how would I set the 2nd router in the living room up?
I understand that DHCP on the 2nd router needs to be turned off, and a channel selected so that it does not overlap.
    Same SSID, Sam WPA2 key.
Any ideas or just simply using the AP mode if the router has it?
Or would there be a device better suited for this?
I do not want to extend the 2 rooms wirelessly I want to use the cable, then use the wireless in the living room for wireless devices etc.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Wire a computer to the WRT120N. Open the web interface at http://192.168.1.1/
    1. On the main Setup page change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2.
    2. On the same page disable the DHCP server.
    3. Save settings.
    4. Unplug the computer and wire one of the LAN ports of the WRT120N to the E3000.
That's it. For wireless, use identical SSID, wireless security WPA2 Personal with AES, identical passphrase, different channels at least 5 apart and enable broadcast on both. Don't forget to change the router password "admin" as well!

  • HT4628 why can't i use my wireless on the windows side of the partition?

when i switch to my windows partition my mac acts as if it is not a wireless device?   help.   I have just switched from pc to mac so quite new to this much better place.  Thanks ,E

You can try to set the pref <b>ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled</b> to <i>0</i> or <i>1</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to see if that makes it work.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Can't I use my wireless mouse and trackpad in different ways when scrolling?

Since I'm a Chinese user, I prefer describing my question in my mother language...I will translate it...
Well, there is two setting items in system preference for "mouse" and "trackpad", and there do have the checkbox for "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating" and for "Scroll direction: natural". I checked the "Natural Scroll"---- if I may call it this way ---- option and unchecked the same option in mouse setting wishing to use my mouse and trackpad in different ways...
However, it turned out to be a confusing phenomenon like I can only use my mouse and trackpad in the way "Natural Scroll" or the way it used to be. If I double click the checkbox of "Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating" to refresh my settings, both my mouse and trackpad will turn into the way it used to be in scrolling while if I double click on the "Natural Scroll" checkbox, both of them will turn into the new way.
At the same time, eventhrough the setting of my mouse has been changed by the changing of trackpad setting, the checkbox in "mouse" is still unchecked and that's where makes it seems like a BUG....
So, is there anybody who meets the same problem? The reason I want to use this two device in different ways is I just don't like to use mouse in the new way, it's unconfortable for me.
And, I use a new MacBook Air 11' and a wireless mouse called Rapoo 6900
Here comes the link of my wireless mouse.

    jhawk,
I can see the appeal of your desired setup, but is the limitation the inability to "Pair" the mouse/keyboard to more than one computer at a time? (Practically, that makes sense, you don't want to be blindly moving both cursors around at the same time, since you can only see one screen at a time)
You CAN operate bluetooth devices on Windows without pairing-you just need to locate the device each time before using:
    http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2003/09/18/winxpunwired.html
So maybe you can pair the Mac version, and just search out the device each time you switch over? (but then you would have to "unpair" it off the Mac too) Maybe you need to write two scripts for each platform: pair/unpair devices.
Sounds like it would be easier to buy two wireless keyboards and mice :P
What you really want is a utility like this:
    http://www.abyssoft.com/software/teleport/
(its only Mac to Mac though, unfortunately)
    Good luck!

  • Can you print using both USB and Wireless on HP M175nw?

I am having a problem with my new LaserJet 100 colorMFP M175nw. When I initially set it up with Setup wizard, I selected the "USB" option, since that was how my old printer was hooked up to the computer. That worked fine and the printer works perfectly with my desktop. Now I can't figure out how to also set up the printer to be used wirelessly. I specifically bought this printer because I wanted to be able to Airprint from an ipad. I've tried several of the fixes listed on this website, but I'm not able to get a list of wireless networks to appear on the printer's menu. I am using a Linksys wireless G router, which is hardwired to my desktop, but which I use to wirelessly access the internet with my laptop and ipad.
What is the best way to be able to use the printer with my both my desktop (non-wireless), laptop, and ipad (both wireless)? Can I leave the printer hardwired to my desktop with a USB AND connect the other devices wirelessly? If so, what is the best way for me to connect the printer to my router - wirelessly or wired? What steps do I need to take to do that and get the printer connected?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Before Christmas 2011, I ran few tests and I've posted elsewhere on this forum. My printer is a different model but I believe same technology. My tests indicated we can connect printer using BOTH wireless and USB. Printer will show busy/not available during direct print (ie USB) but it knows job(s) is/are on the queue and print after that.
One thing I could not test successfully: scan and print at the same time.
    Regards.

  • MacBook, USB wireless antenna, and tethered iPhone 4: Can the iPhone use the antenna?

I have a late 2008 MacBook, a USB wireless antenna (Etekcity High Power 802.11 B/N/G 300M USB Wireless 1000mw Wifi Network Adapter with Dual Antenna), and a USB-tethered iPhone 4. My cell signal is often very poor, and when it is, trying to use the Internet on my iPhone is an exercise in futility.
Can the iPhone use the wireless antenna as an external antenna by, in effect, using the MB as a pass-through device or signal booster? I'd have the iPhone at one end of the chain, connected to the MB via USB, the MB in the middle, and the external antenna on the other end, also via USB.
Is there an app for that? Or are we talking about sending/receiving completely different signals?

Max, I just got the etekcity usb antenna thing and I can't find the mac adapter.  Can you tell me which driver you're using?  (the cd that comes with it doesn't seem to work).
    Thanks!

  • Why can't my iBook detect my Linksys wireless-B network?

The network works fine for all PC's, and it even works with my iBook when connected via ethernet, but the airport card can't find my network at all. For simplicity, I reset my router to the very basics so it's not using WEP.
I know the card works because I can detect my neighbor's wireless network.
DHCP is enabled, and the setup page looks like this:
    http://files.photojerk.com/ACX/setup.gif
I can post more information if needed. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be? I'm pulling my hair out over this.

I'm having the exact same problem.
I'm using the Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 and have never had problems connecting a windows PC via wireless (using a wireless card). The macbook detected the connection for a few seconds twice, but it is gone from the list almost immediately. I reset the router settings so there is no encryption and an openly broadcasted SSID.
    Anyone have any ideas???

  • Just bought Apple Extreme. Can I use my old Linksys extender to boost signal in a closed area?

Can anyone tell me if I can still use an existing Linksys Wireless Range Extender (WRE 54G) with my new Apple Extreme Routher please?

Apple uses proprietary settings for their "extend a wireless network" feature, which are designed to only allow other Apple device to extend the network. Therefore, it is extremely unlikely that a Linksys product would be able to wirelessly extend an Apple network.
If you plan to connect the Linksys 54G to the Apple AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection, then you could set up the Linksys router to provide more wireless signal coverage that way. Configure the Linksys router in bridge mode to provide a wireless network using the same wireless network name, same wireless security setting and same password as the Apple network.

  • How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between my iPhone 4 & my wireless Linksys WRT54G router?

How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between this iPhone I bought and my wireless Linksys router (WRT54G) that I'm using for home netwrking for my PCs?
Tried settings on iPhone, selceted Wi-Fi connection, then pressed my network name shown on this iPhone, but nothing happens after that.

Do you not get the icon on the top bar of the iPhone?
Once you press on the network, the iPhone should connect to it. If the Network has a wep or WPA key it should be requested at that time.
Once the above has been completed, then the iPhone is connected. And you can use the wifi conneftion to browse the internet. It should also show a checkmark next to the network signifying it connected.
If its having trouble connecting or taking some time you should see the   next to the network spinning around.

  • Is there a way to upgrade a mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro so that it can use a wireless n network?

I have a mid 2009 13" macbook pro, and I live in a share house. The router we are using is very far away from my room and I do not get very good signal strength. However, my phone and ipad, which are newer, and have wireless n capability, are able to get quite good speeds on this network. I think my problem is that my computer only has a wireless a/b/g airport card. I know that it is meant to be compatible with the draft IEEE 802.11n specification but I don't think it is connecting to the network as a wireless n device.
Is there a way for me to upgrade this card? I have seen a number of cards on ebay etc but I cannot find one that matches my needs. Alternatively, is there a way to make my computer join the network as a wireless n device?

I am not sure swapping a wireless card is an easy exercise.. I would not recommend it.
You can hunt up a USB wireless stick that is Mac compatible..
Or you can buy an Apple Express and use it as a wireless bridge. There are plenty of alternative wireless bridges.. you just plug them in by ethernet and use wireless.. depending on the brand of wireless router you have.

  • Can I use a wireless router to share a USB broadband connection

Hi - I have an emac or a mac minin which have a USb boradband modem. I use airport from the emac to allow me to connect from an airport enabled powerbook when it is at home.
Rather than getting an airport card for the mac mini, could I use that as the primary conection to the internet (via the USB modem) and then get a wirless router (eg netgear MR814) an I use a wireless router to share the USB broadband connection to the 2 airport enabled macs?
    Or do I either:

    2) Get a ethernet modem to plug into the wireless router

  • My tv is in a different room than my landlord's wireless router- can I still use my Apple TV?

I just moved into a new apartment and want to start using my Apple TV, 2nd generation.  (The black one)  My landlord provides wireless and has the router at another location in my building.  Is there a way to bypass having to plug the apple tv into the router?  It's not possible to plug into the router and my tv at the same time.  Can I connect to the wireless in some other way or is there another piece of hardware I need to buy?  Thanks guys.
    -Helpless TV Junkie

Apple TV works wirelessly too, so long as it gets the WiFi signal it will work.  The only issue may be signal strength and if multiple users are on the same network you may experience slow download times.

It is better to have the TC as part of the main network in bridge. You do not need to run wireless.
If you want to use the TC plugged in by ethernet and still use wireless for internet, that is possible but the setup is rather more complicated.. the computer must not get confused about which device to use as a gateway or dns server.
See info in this thread on setting this up.

I need to add.. a USB drive would be cheaper, faster and more reliable. It is really poor use of a TC.
