Guest Users - Proxy By Pass

Hi All,
I would like to take your advice about best practice for Guest wirless users. We have Anchor controller and we are using Cisco ISE sponsor portal & Guest Portal so my query is related to proxy server. Should the guest users go through proxy or we can safely bypass the proxy for guest IP subnet ?
what is the recommended deployment or best practice approach ?
Thanks

It is a best practice to configure your guest portal on its own ISE  physical interface with its own IP address. This drastically reduces the  security risk of an ISE compromise. Separating the Admin portal from  the guest portal provides some of this added security. You can specify  the port used for each web portal, allowing you to use different ports  for the end-user portals. For more detail over guest configuration please see the below link.

  • Sense proxy settings for guest users

    Hello,
I've got a client that wants guest users to be able to 'Plug and play' on the wireless network.
That is, when a user connects, he get's assigned an IP address and does not need to change his proxy settings or IP settings.
I know this is a feature in Nomadix, is this possible in the Cisco Controller ?
I've been unable to find it.
    thanks

Most browsers include an [automatic proxy configuration (PAC) mechanism|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config] and the transparent configuration of proxies, and Safari and Firefox are no different here.
The usual approach here is to have folks visit a site and select the PAC file, or to push the file out. Here is a comfiguration example from [UConn|http://helpdesk.uconn.edu/trouble/proxy/autoprox.html], and another from [Rice|http://proxy.rice.edu/setup.php], and there are others around and visible via Google.
The [pactester|http://code.google.com/p/pactester> tool might be useful, too.
If y'all get some DNS entries set up (various web browsers have [Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD)|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebProxy_AutodiscoveryProtocol], when last I checked [Safari needed a little help|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090711031033128]) and have your firewall raise an appropriate diagnostic page, you won't have to go through this again, either.
None of this stuff is particularly specific to Mac OS X or to Safari; the PAC stuff is fairly generic, and WPAD is used with various boxes. (Try Safari with WPAD, but you might still need to reference that PAC file. And if you do, using WPAD-compliant naming would probably be a reasonable approach.)
The hosts files? You're really still using those? Any chance you can get real DNS working? That's a whole lot less work, and now is the time to deploy that; if you're going to mess with everything, then you can use that effort and that requirement to (also) move forward in your networking capabilities.

  • Guest users in WLC are not logged out after pre defined time.

    Hi,
My customer wants to create guest users in wireless lan controller. We were successfully able to create that and it worked . But the problem is that to access the internet the users have to change the "proxy server" settings on the internet explorer. As a result the guest users are not logged out automatically after the pre defined amount of time. We enabled " by pass proxy server " settings in internet explorer also, unfortunately it didnt work too.
If we disable the proxy settings in internet explorer customers were logged out, but the problem is that once the customer log in he will change the proxy settings in internet explorer to browse net  but wont get disconnect unless and untill he manually change the proxy settings in the internet explorer.
Is there any other way to solve this issue? Can any one provide any alternative solution  if possible.
    Regards,
    Bibin

Can you explain how your proxy server has anything to do with your wireless access duration?
Does you proxy server have the logic that stops the internet access after a period of time? If so, I assume you turn proxy off in order to web-authenticate? If so, then you just need to tell the browser to not proxy for the virtual IP address of the WLC.   You'll never get redirected to the webauth page if you don't send a https request to it (as if, your browser is sending it the IP of your proxy server).

  • ISE Guest force proxy usage

We have a cisco ISE 1.3 and WLC 5508. We have guest access portal using sms. We need to force the wireless guest user to use our proxy after completing  the sms authentication process. Is there a way to make this happen?

If you wan't to use an explicitly configured proxy on your guests devices, that won't work well, and will make your guest network very difficult to support also.I would advise you to forget about doing that

  • WLC 2500 and WCCP for Wireless Guest Users

    Hi there
I would like to redirect web traffic from WLANs on a Wireless LAN Controller 2500 to a proxy server in a remote site. I'm using ironport proxy server and Cisco 3560 Layer 3 switch. Basically current scenario is:
Wireless Guest Users get authenticated by web-auth through Access Point 3501 HREAP configured. Guest client gets an IP address on VLAN 100 in remote site. Once they connect to VLAN 100, I want all web traffic to be redirected to the proxy server. I know PAC file may be the easier solution however our guest clients want seamless solution for internet. I am not sure whether WCCP is supported for this.
You advice will be highly appreciated.

  • Guest Users

    Hello Experts,
I have setup a NAC in L2 Inband Virtual Mode, I m concern for users who are guest coming in corporate for meeting and another for hourly purpose, I don't want them to access Internet and network by bypassing NAC,
The requirements for Corporate users is Antivirus update and WSUS update ,but this is not possible for them becz it is their company laptop with their corporate policy,
How i can handle such  users??????
    Thanks.

    Hello Federico,
Instead of typing the CAS IP address in the specific, do you get redirected when you try to browse even to a bogus IP? Something like http://2.2.2.2/
Yes i tried it does'nt work page cannot be displayed error by Internet explorer
If positive, then there may be an issue in the DNS configuration of the client,
I think the problem is in the DNS server ??? when i do nslookup it does'nt resolve's,How i can solve such problems??
For example, under or in the DNS traffic allowed by the CAS for the unauthenticated role
          Policies are perfect.
Steps For Guest User to login please correct me if i m wrong i have configured each and every step as per the instruction. (assuming the redirection is working)
    Create a Guest role
    Permit DHCP and DNS traffic
Guest connected a laptop to a switch auth vlan port and he will get the IP address and DNS by DHCP  Server.
Guest tries to open a google .com and he is been redirected to login page.as attached
Guest clicks the guest Access Button and he is routed to Guest registration prompts  as attached
Finally guest feed his details and he is given access.
If i want to allow internet access to guest then i should only permit proxy ip address with port 8080 ?? correct me if i m wrong???
Why do we need provider label in option #3  instead of  clicking on Guest access button which routes to guest registration page.
(Enable the Provider Label and click the checkbox corresponding to the Guest authentication provider type you have configured under Available Providers to ensure it appears in the list of available authentication sources in the Providers options users see on the login page) ??????????
    Thanks

  • ADLDS User proxy bind to ADLDS User

    Hello,
one of our customer use ADLDS user proxy to authenticate to a portal.
The ADLDS user proxy bind to AD user and the authentication complete successfully.
As they create ADLDS users in another instance, they want the same authentication for them.
Is it possible to create ADLDS user proxy which bind to ADLDS user in another instance or is it only possible to AD ?

    Hi Michael,
Based on my research, we cannot bind an AD LDS userProxy object to another AD LDS user.
That’s because the AD LDS userProxy object is a representation of the Active Directory account.
Two accounts are involved in the proxy authentication, one is the AD LDS userProxy, the other is the user’s account in AD. When a user performs a simple bind to an LDS instance with a proxy object, the bind is redirected to Active
Directory by passing the SID and password to a domain controller.
    More information for you:
Understanding Proxy Authentication in AD LDS

    I hope this helps.

  • Only Guest user is available to login after updates.

    Hello,
One day i was editing a picture and listening to my music on iTunes, then the mac software updater pops a window out, saying that i needed to restart my computer to conclude all the four updates that he downloaded. So i saved my picture and clicked on "restart". Mac closed my profile and there was only one window left that was installing the updates (like all other updates i ever did). When mac finished this, he restarted. After restart, when i was about to grab the mouse to click my profile icon, it disappeared (i had 2 admin accounts and both disappeared at that same moment). Then the Guest account was the only one left. I restarted computer and because guest was the only account mac automatically asked me for the password to enter Guest account!
Awkward.. Guests have no password... so i clicked on the button saying "Back" to check if my accounts were there. And there was nothing but Guest... I clicked Guest this time and it logged in without asking me for the password. Every time i reboot he asks for that password (is not none of the admins passwords) and i have to click on Back and click again on guest to enter without pass...
Inside guest account i don't have any privileges and when he asks me to put an admin password to access some program none of the admins passwords are accepted!
    And thats my problem.
I wrote this topic in this guest account because i have no other computer, and if i go to a computer store they will probably make me spend a lot of money.
PS: I have no installation CD (computer went to repair and they installed SnowLeopard in the process giving me no CD or anything at the end).
(I have important files on my missing admin account)
I really hope that someone is able to help me!
Thank You all for helping me, i hope you can do something for me.

Also having the same issue, although i wasn't updating at the time, was just doing a restart/refresh.
You should be able to still see your account in your user directory (even from your guest account), if so then grab yourself another mac and target disk your broken one to the one thats working http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661 - after doing the your old mac should load itself on the other mac asthough it were an external HD. You can should be able to drag and drop your files and retrieve any files/folder no already backed up (that is if you dont/ haven't run TimeMachine.
Now you're at my stage, i am hoping that a reinstall will fix. Pain in the backside to have to kinda start over. The files i have on my MacMini aren't to precious (as i use it mostly as a Plex server). This is a fairly extreme measure to goto and please hut around for possible Single User Mode fixes is you dont feel like this is right for you. Hopefully this will at least enable you to get your files back.
Dont forget to grab your user>username>Library>Mail folder in order to keep all email.

  • Why does GarageBand audio work for guest user but not my account?

Hello, I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3) from late 2011 that I bought brand new in 2012. I'm running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and my MacBook has 500 GB of storage.
About a month or two ago I tried to download the new GarageBand (10.0.2) but I had trouble completing the loops download. The download would stop halfway through because of a network error. So last week I decided to try to download it again, and I was able to do so after reading some discussions about the issue. I successfully completed the download in safety mode and then I restarted my MacBook. At this point I was able to open GarageBand 10.0.2 and create a new project. Unfortunately, there was no audio coming through the output and sound bar for the various audio components in GarageBand. I had no audio when previewing the loops or playing it back in an audio track. I didn't really test anything else out because I figured I needed to fix this problem first. I have read many discussion boards about audio problems with GarageBand. I have already made sure everything is set properly in the GarageBand preferences and the audio preferences in system preferences. I've tried restarting GarageBand and restarting the computer.
This evening I found a discussion from the username icewhatice and they seemed to have had my exact problem. I'm not sure that I found the answer on this discussion though. For reference, this is what icewhatice posted: "I have no audio coming from Garageband 10.0.2. Downloaded it on Saturday and have spent the last two days trying to figure out why it won't work. I'm using a macbook pro with an Alesis QX49. GB registers keyboard when I plug it in but no sound whatsoever, not even from the onscreen keyboard. It seems to read the keyboard as if I play a C chord, it appears in the display. I've done all the obvious stuff like check preferences, restart, I've deleted and downloaded new GB several times and always with same result. Actually, it took me about four attempts to download it in the first place as I was getting an internet connection error message right at the end of the download, and I see others have had that problem. Managed to solve that by downloading in safe mode but now the no sound thing is driving me absolutely crazy because I can't play my keyboard!!!!! Also, worth noting that there is no audio level being read anywhere, I believe in the new version this appears in the volume control at the top. I've also looked into it potentially being a problem with my keyboard and it possibly needing an update but can't find any difinitive answer for that anywhere. I've stopped looking into that because the on screen keyboard doesn't even work - if that worked then I would know at least GB works and it's something to do with the keyboard. So, I am at a complete loss. If anyone has any ideas about why this is happening or what I could do to solve then I would be very grateful."
After reading this, I realized that I am unable to create new tracks, and I realized that I have the same problems with old projects saved from the last version of GarageBand I had. I have not tried to download GarageBand again since it did not work for icewhatice. léonie ended this post by saying: "Something is certainly wrong - either the current project, some settings in your user account, or the downloaded GarageBand version. Or incompatible software may be interfering. If a new project does not work, try to test by logging into a different user account, for example the "Guest User" account. Create a new project using this account. Does GarageBand work better from this account?  Then we will need to troubleshoot your preferences."
I have tried this and started a new GarageBand project in the "Guest User" account. GarageBand was working fine in the "Guest User" account and all of the audio was working properly. Does anyone know how I should troubleshoot my preferences?

If an application is working in a different account, but not in your regular account, try t find out, what you configured differently in your own account, for example start-up items or preference panes you are using, applications and other helper tools, that are only installed for your regular account. As a first guess, remove GarageBands preference files from the user library in your Home folder.
But you will have to reset all settings you did in the GarageBand preferences dialog. And GarageBand will not remember the last project. You'll have to find the file manually.
Remove these files from your User Library to a folder on your Desktop:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist
    ~/Library/Caches/garageband
Quit GarageBand, then remove the files to a folder on the Desktop and restart the computer, before trying again to open GarageBand.
You user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
    Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to the Preferences, Caches, or Containers folder. Remove these folders completely - don't leave anything inside:  ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/,
    ~/Library/Caches/garageband  .

  • I can no longer see my account name, but get a Guest user account, I can no longer see my account name, but get a Guest user account

I can no longer see my account name so I can gain access to my information, but now all I get is a Guest user account and it won't let me log into that account. All it lests me do is re-start the computer and use it in restricted mode. Can someone please help me!

    Recommendation for your consideration
Hopefully your original user account was an "administrator". I have two admin accts in case one admin. acct gets "trashed.
Lets see what other forum members offer: my solution requires use of terminal and works. CLI (Command Line Interface) might be intimidating for you but we'll see what others possibly offer.
As I say the solution I have works well and will allow you to create new user(s) replacing your former users whatever type they were. I promise to check back today if no solution to you is offered...
    Let 'er rip and...
    cheers

  • How do i get rid of the guest user account on my mac?

The guest user account keeps appearing on my login screen and i want to get rid of it, i do not want others to be able to access my account. How am i able to do this? I have tried to go on through the user section and nothing i seem to do in there helps. Please help!

You don't want to get rid of, it's a security feature. If someone steals your Mac, all that account permits is Safari access, no other access to the computer. This enables you to locate your Mac.

  • Some programs crash but not in safe mode or for guest user

Hoping that some talented and kind Mac wizard will help me solve a bizarre problem: Some but not all of my programs have started crashing immediately upon launch, but not in safe mode, nor when I log in as a guest user.
The problem began on February 5th, right after I installed an update to my OS (bringing it up to version 10.7.3), which included an update to the firmware for my computer, a Mac mini from mid-2010. The programs that began crashing upon launch *may* be those that were open at that time, but I can’t be sure. They include Adobe Reader, Picasa, Word for Mac, and a sweet little utility called uCalendarX.
Specifically what happens with, say, uCalendarX, is this:  After I launch it, nothing appears on screen for a few seconds, and then comes a message that it is trying restore its windows, with a choice of whether to attempt restoring them or not. After a few more seconds comes the news that it has quit unexpectedly. The first several dozen lines of the crash log appear at the end of this posting.
So far my troubleshooting has revealed the following:
    (a) When I reboot in safe mode, the programs that crash now work normally.
    (b) When I boot the usual way but log on a guest user, the programs that crash now work normally.
    (c) Fully emptying the trash made no difference.
    (d) The problem was not solved by restoring my hard drive (via Time Machine) to its state the day before I downloaded that update to the OS and the firmware. (This was a drastic step, the intervention of last resort, and I was sure it would work. But no. Perhaps I did not go back far enough for the restoration.)
    (e) Deleting the plist files and plist.lockfiles made no difference.
    (f) Deleting the files for the app under Saved Application States made no difference.
    (g) Disabing the user’s font cache (as happens in safe mode) made no difference.
    (h) Uninstalling Adobe Reader, emptying the trash, downloading the latest version, and installing that made no difference – this latest version newly installed continues to crash (but not for a guest user, nor for me, the administrator, in safe mode).
(i  ) Repairing permissions on the hard drive made no difference.
I will be mighty grateful for a solution to this perplexing, vexing problem!
B.t.w., I don’t know Unix but was able to do all those (fruitless) interventions listed above.

Thanks for thinking about my problem. I've already experimented with creating a new user, a co-administrator. The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.
    Thanks again for your suggestion.

  • Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options.

Why can I not disable the guest user in the 10.8.2 update? I have never enabled the guest user, but after the update, it was automatically enabled with a "managed" tag. It is not selectable even after entering my admin password to unlock the options. I was able to select the account under "parental controls", but again, could not delete it. Why Apple? Why?!!????

SOLVED Ok. I actually was able to disable it. I had to actually log in as the guest user to make it accessible in the preference window. Then I disabled it and logged out. Apologies if this was obvious for some people, but I have had some sort of issue with something every update since Snow Leopard.

  • Iphoto opens as guest user but not primary user

Iphoto will not open on the primary user account but does open as a guest user. It states that iphoto does not work with this type mac. It worked fine until yesterday. I have macbook air, OS10, iphoto 11

If iPhoto only opens in the Guest account, then some setting in your main account are faulty. Perhaps preferences files are not readable.
Remove the user preferences from your user library:
Delete the iPhoto preference file: com.apple.iPhoto.plist from your     ~/Library/Preferences folder.
In Lion or later also the cached file in
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
The library is hidden in Lion or later: To remove the files:
Click somewhere on the empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
Select "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar and hold down the alt/option ⌥ key, until you see the "Library"  in the drop-down menu. Double click it to open a Finder window, so you can browse the files inside.
Scroll down to the "Preferences" folder and open it.
    Remove com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Note: this will reset all  iPhoto preference settings to the default values, you may want to take a note of them, before you do that.

  • I am trying to allow guests on windows to connect to shares on my Lion server but it keeps asking for a password for guest. I have allow guest users to access this share enabled but it still does not work.

Ditto. Guest accounts shouldn't have a password. No way to enter one in System Prefs...
