Guest WiFi not working with DHCP disable

Hello,
I am using my "server" for handling DHCP requests, in the past i used my router to perform this task.
After disabling my DHCP server on the router i found out my guest WiFi is not working anymore. It seems it keeps searching for a DHCP server to get an IP but i am not sure whether this is the problem.
Could someone help me with this problem and hand me a solution or alternative, i really would like my guest wifi to work.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure when or if it will be. You'll need to keep an eye on main web site for udpates and release notes. This may not be fixed as Guest WiFi may depend on DHCP to be enabled. It will be up to Linksys to figure this out.

I have a brand new iPod Touch (8GB) that will not work using DHCP. No matter what I do (reset router, reset ipod) the DHCP still doesn't work. I can manually setup an IP/Gateway/netmask/etc. and it works but I really need the DHCP to work if at all possible. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G. I was able to use an old Linksys wireless router and the touch gets an IP, etc. with no problems but I can not get my Touch to work with the WRT54G. Any ideas?

    Hi Leo,
    Thanks for your response.
Client laptop trying to connect the SSID and once authentication key entered ,it will try for a while then error message come "could not connect...."
As our suggested,i will create new profile with open authentication, then try to connect the laptop.
we have planned to upgrade WLC firmware in coming weekend.

  • Guest WiFi not working correctly

I just bought a new EA6300 router expecially for it's guest wifi functionality but i have problems with this feature.
weather i log in via my laptop/ macbook/ android or iphone i can connect to the guest wifi network but the guest wifi portal is not displayed and i cannot login as guest.
After a reset of the router the guest wifi works for a little while but fails within couple of hours.
Is this a firmware bug or does someone knows a workaround.
Hope Linksys can help me with this standard build in feature!!!
    Thanks in advance.

Hey there, bramschats! Intermittent guest network connection may be caused by wireless interference. Try changing the wireless channel of your router to either 1, 6, 9, or 11. You may also want to change your security settings to WPA2 Personal. That should take care of the intermittent connection. If all else fails, update the router's firmware.

hi blue_butterfly: I would kindly suggest a better way to do what you suggest. It would be best to troubleshoot the problem by looking first to see if there actually is congestion. there are apps available for free to see what channels are being used. By randomly moving to another channel you may cause others to then be interfered with causing them to move and the problem just continues to move around. Also, the only wifi channels that don't overlap (at least here in the USA) are channels 1, 6, and 11.  All the other channels cause at the very least a small amount of signal degragation to the adjacent channel. So try to find the app for whatever device you can use, android or iPhone and see what is actually out there, select the channel with the lowest signals on it and see if that helps. The channels in between 1, 6 and 11 can certainly be tried but just be aware that they are the least advisable ones to use.
@ bramschats: if you are able to use the guest login at some times but then it doesn't work after a while try refreshing your browser before you re-boot the router. If that still doesn't work and the only way to fix it is to reboot the router complain to belkin about it. There seems to be a lot of bugs in their software lately and the only way we will get their attention is to complain, return deivces etc.

  • Apple WiFi not working with pc

My airport extreme 802.11n wifi works fine with my apple products but I also need to use with my pc and that is not working.  Any ideas?

First, does your PC have any issues connecting to other Wi-Fi networks or just the one being provided by the AirPort Extreme?
If just the Extreme, what is its current wireless encryption set for? WEP, WPA, or WPA2. Can the PC's wireless and operating system support all of these?

  • Wifi not working with Windows Vista - BT in denial

I run a laptop repair centre in Dundee and have BT Business Broadband which was working fine until a few days ago.
Now, any vista machine refuses to connect to the wifi while XP and Windows 7 are unaffected.
I have hundreds of laptops in stock at any one time and this issue is affecting them every single machine installed with Vista. These same machines work fine when connected to another wifi service (virgin media).
I phoned to report this fault and have been told that it's not BTs problem and I'd have to pay to have someone come and look at it. I was put through to a supervisor who told me that it "was Bill Gate's fault"!!!!!
I've worked with Vista for the 7 or so years it's been out and know the operating system inside out.
This is NOT a fault with the machines, or Vista, this is definitely a router fault but the supervisor refuses to believe this.
I'm now trying to cancel my contract as I'm not receiving a full service.
This is absolutely unbelievable that such a major company can just brush me aside and deny there's any fault. They won't even entertain the idea of sending me another router to try!
Has anyone else had this problem?

After phoning the same number, this time I got someone very helpful who knew their job well.
Apparently there is a known issue affecting certain routers at the moment. This problem causes connection issues with Vista machines on wifi and the fix is to reduce the encryption from WPA to WEP.
    This works perfectly.
The person then explained that they were expecting a firmware update to be released soon for the routers which should cure the problem properly.
Why in **bleep** did the person this morning not know that, and even worse, why didn't his supervisor that I demanded to talk to not know that either. He point blank refused to even consider the notion that the fault lay with BT!

  • WiFi not working with 2G iPod Touch (2.1.1)

I just sold my 1st gen iPod touch on craigslist and got 2nd Gen. What a disappointment so far. It will not connect to my WiFi router using WPA/WPA2 encryption. I searched forums and found other people here having same issues. Someone suggested to do a Network Reset on the iPod device. It helped, I got connected only to be disconnected after iPod was turned off. Second reset didn't do anything. I can't connect now. My previous iPod worked just fine, laptops can connect without any issues. Now it only works if I completely disable wireless security leaving network open to anyone. My router is D-Link 4300. I'm a system engineer btw. I'm hesitant of calling support, since I only get one free call... Does it mean I have to buy a "compatible" router now? I hope it's just a firmware issue and will be fixed ASAP. Apple please respond.

I feel fortunate. I have WPA2 encryption and the 2G touch with 2.1.1 works like a champ. I do have an all alpha-numeric key, though. I wonder if that is the correlation.
If by "alpha-numeric" you mean a jumbled string of letters and numbers, as opposed to using a passphrase--well FWIW I'm using WPA-PSK with a 63-character passphrase (the phrase just so happened to be 64 characters long, so I got rid of the 64th character), and I have no problems getting my 2G IPT to connect to my wireless router.

  • Wifi not working with iTunes, apps store and some, but not all Internet sites....why???

Yesterday I noticed while browsing Internet that some sites would not open and that some games I regularly play would not open. I also found that I could not open either the apps store or iTunes. Everything seemed to be working the day before and I have not recently upgraded ios (been on version 6.1.3 for a while) or changed any settings on my iPad (2).  With Internet research today I found suggestion that if I switched to 3G I would be able to access these apps and, sure enough, under 3G connection everything works fine. Some other forums suggest changing wifi router settings to fix the issue ....I have not tried this as I wouldn't  like to mess with my router and end up effecting other peripherals/pc's connected to it that are working fine....especially when I am not terribly IT savvy when it comes to hardware settings.  But as I haven't changed anything on my ipad why would my wifi suddenly stop connecting to some apps on my iPad, but not all??? Interestingly I can access many Internet sites (forums) with wifi connection but not the apple forum! To get to anything apple related I have to switch back to 3G ....that includes checking the iOS version I am on via settings!
I also mention that I have done all the other suggested fixes found on various forums, such as rebooting iPad, renewing wifi lease, clearing cookies, closing all apps etc etc, to no avail. Seems the only suggested fix I have not tried is mucking around with my router which I am very hesitant to do given the **** I went through with my telco when my home Internet connection suddenly stopped working last year. Took me weeks of phone calls to get my internet connection back and being forced by the telco to a more expensive plan, hence very reluctant to start mucking around with that side of things, but why should I need to when it does seem to be working ok with other devices in the home?
I have started this as new discussion as, even though I am not terribly IT savvy,  I cant see how this could be related to the wifi issues that many on the newer devices (iPhone 5 and iPad mini etc) are reporting as I haven't recently upgraded anything on my ipad and all was working perfectly up until yesterday.
Any other suggestions on how to get wifi working correctly again on iPad or do I really have to risk the working of every other device in my home and chase it from modem/router side?

    Hi there,
You mentioned that you have tried a few troubleshooting steps already, but you may want to take a look at the article below, specifically the section titled "If you are unable to access the Internet while connected to a Wi-Fi network"

  • Wifi not working with windows

    Hey guys,
My problem is quite odd. At my house, my wifi works fine on both partitions. However, when I'm at my friend's house, it works on my mac partition but not on windows. I tried figuring out the problem by myself, and I one thing I noticed is that it seems to be able to connect to wifis with WPA password but not anything else. But anyways yeah, help would be much appreciated.

  • Why does my home wifi not work with my apple products

my computer, ipad, and ipod all say that when i connect to my house wifi there is no internet connection yet when i try to connect my xbox and galaxy phone the wifi works just fine i called the wireless company and they told me that the router is working fine i habe no idea weather there is some sort of setting that i can change on the router or on my devices but if there is can someone help it would be much obliged

Check the time and date on your computer and make sure it's accurate.
What happens sometimes if your data and time are off, you get a DCHP lease for the IP address from the router to connect, then it quickly expires, making it appear you connect for a second and then get cut off.
The Mac gets it's time from Apple servers, however if it's not connecting, then it can't update the time and date.
Hopefully this will resolve your issue.

  • Wifi not working with iPhone

    Help
I have a rather expensive Belkin router and everything was fine for 6 months. I have one computer and an Xbox connected to it by ethernet. I had an iphone and an ipad connected up by wifi.Despite the large size of the house I had no problems connecting any of my apple devices by wifi. Then I started to loose connection to my iphone and ipad over the wirreless connection. I have now got the iphone 4s and im haveing problems with that on the wifi system now. The strange thing is all my wired devices work fine with high internet speeds but my wireless devices hardly get any speeds at all. The wireless devices also say the singnal strength is good all over the house???? So in a nutshell wired sppeds good, wifi speeds terrible even though the connection strength is good. To make things stranger if I sit nect to the router with any of my wireless devices it works fine????
I should have pointed out that i run my imac on the same wireless connection a long way from the router and its sppeds are very good.
    HELP!!!!

Open the setup page of rouer, under the security tab..Uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...Under the Wireless tab, click on the subtab Advance Wireless Settings tab and Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Wifi not working with bootcamp windows 7 install

I have installed window 7 enterprise via bootcamp however I can't get my wifi configured. Windows does not see the built in wifi. So I cant get to the outside world nor configure a wifi printer in window. Everything still works perfectly in OS 10.6.6. Any advise on how get to get the wifi working in windows would be great.

It is not a driver problem, but a problem in the BIOS emulated by bootcamp on some (not all) MBP models. So unless Apple fixes it in bootcamp, there is no real solution. And obviously, Apple doesn't care. They are dropping the Expresscard slot anyway.
Unfortunately, this poster seems right: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=912259 :
The 2008/2009 Macbook Pros don't allow to use the ExpressCard slot because of EFI/Bootcamp errors (Windows Vista/7 cannot allocate an IRQ to the slot). You don't need any drivers for using an ExpressCard slot on Windows, you only need the drivers for the corresponding card you are using.
Bootcamped XP allowed to use the slot, but you could not use hot-plugging.
    And from the Sonnet site ( http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_sata_express34.html ) :
Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 not supported under Windows 7 or Windows Vista when running on unibody MacBook Pro computers. The problem is caused by the MacBook Pro's BIOS emulation, which doesn't allocate enough resources to support certain kinds of Expresscard/34 devices, such as a SATA controller, in these operating systems.

  • My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi

Following a question solved on March 24 by LaPastenague, but gone bad again.
    Apple AirPort Time Capsule
I felt the need for a physical backup of my data, as I would not completely trust the different clouds. I use, and have used Dropbox for 4-5 years and are very satisfied with that, but I am still not sure if or when a political lunatic will shut off the internet.
I purchased the Apple AP Time Capsule 2T, because all my other stuff are Apple, and that it's wireless. My old backup is Maxtor 300 GB.
Since we stay 2-3 weeks on two locations, one in Norway and one in Sweden (two different countries) we must use Mobile Broadband 4G, cables or fibre connections are useless for us, and we don't have it up to the houses. I have one mini router for each country, we bring with us iPhones, iPads, iMac, Apple TV, APExpress. When we pass the boarder I change the mini router, and the system continues working perfect on the WiFi, except the APExpress that needs to be reconfigured,  but then it works.
The APTC was difficult to make working as it would not accept to be in an existing network, but with good help from the Apple Community, LaPastenague, with forcing the TC connect to the APE with Ethernet cable in bridge mode, ref "My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi" from March 24, the problem was solved and all gadgets worked together in a perfect harmony, until we changed location.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
I have a slight feeling that the two WiFi bands are making the trouble as during the configuration of the TC sometime the last figure 6 and 7 pops up, and that has something two do with the two different 2,4 and 5 GHZ bands
So, I am curious if you have any idea ?
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?

I can deal with the last question first and easily.
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?
Open the airport utility .. go to the disk tab and select erase.
When you select erase you will get mulitiple options.
Quick removes the file table but does not delete the files,, it takes 2min or less.
A Zero out data is the secure way,, by writing 0 ie low level drive format.
    It can take several hours..
7 pass will take a week.. not recommended..
35 pass erase is ridiculous.. it would take a month.. put an ax through the TC. It is quick and better.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
The fact that it did work and has now failed might point to faulty unit.
The only way to tell is reset it properly to factory and start over.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Generally having multiple wireless AP should not cause problems.. but it is better to set channels manually.. so it doesn't go beserk rotating channels.
Remember to keep all names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Sadly though the Apple routers have no logging now and no SNMP and almost nothing to help diagnose a problem, so if it continues .. take it back to apple.. they have given you no other method of fixing it.
