GUI for network reconfigure on Solaris 10 ?

Does anyone know of an easy to install GUI interface for network configuration for the SUN E450 running Solaris 10 ? I am setting up the system and testing. I will be changing IP Addresses at least twice and Host Names at least once before the production deploy. I've already seen that a host name change will not allow a user to login to the CDE Desktop due to hostname change... thank goodness root can still login. I hate having to locate 10 different configuration files and modify them manually, or issue a sys-unconfig command. DEC TRUnix 64 had a nice GUI interface which allowed root to reconfigure any NIC properties, DNS server names, IP Addresses, Default Gateways etc.... Thoughts are sincerely appreciated ! I am obviously a novice here. I downloaded the companion CD, but all I see on it are language additions. I reviewed the individual downloadable packages but saw nothing interesting. Maybe Solaris 10 already has a nice one, and I just haven't found it from the CDE.... Thanks, Randy !

OK..... sys-unconfig is ok, but what file(s) do I need to edit in order for users to log into their CDE provided that the host name changes.... Any ideas ? In other words, if one changes the host name under the sys-unconfig command, at least one file somewhere (maybe in the home directory auto mount) still refers to the old host name, thus locking users out of their CDE.... Thanks again !

  • Network Emulation on Solaris

    Recently I've begun developing server software on Solaris, but just realized I can't find anything like Linux's netem (tc) or any other tool for Network Emulation (for controlling things like bandwidth, latency, drop rates, etc...). Is there any software for Network Emulation on Solaris? Or will I have to setup a Linux-box as a bridge?
    Thanks!

  • How can I set ne2000 network adapter in Solaris 8 for x86

    I am a beginner. I can not set a ne2000 compatible network adapter(isa) in Solaris 8 for x86.
    I do follows:
    write the file ' /kernel/drv/nei.conf ' with ' name="nei" parent="isa" reg=0x1,0x0300,0x1f interrupts=10 '
    and use the command: drvconfig -i nei --failed
    use the command: drv_add -i nei; devlinks; --there is no the command drv_add
    use the command: touch /reconfigure; reboot
    after reboot, use the command: ifconfig nei0 plumb --failed
    Did I miss something obvious, or what driver should I use?

    After backing up the suspect hard drive, I ran Disk Repair on it and found no problems. Then ran Disk Warrior again and no problems. It is a Hitachi, btw.
    As for the PrefPane issue: Repairing disk permissions on the main volume and on the partition that holds the system did not make any difference.
    Reinstalled the 10.5.8 upgrade, performed safe start and then repaired permissions again. Still getting a blank PrefPane for network.
    Next step is to try and trash the System Configuration plist and Network Interfaces plist.

  • Creating a GUI for use on an Ethernet Network

    I'm designing a data logger to log voltage, current and temperature data on a reserve battery string while it's being charged. The logger will have the capability to be viewed remotely via Ethernet. With that said, I'd like some advice regarding the GUI for the remote PC which will be used to view the logger. Will it be easier to create the GUI using LabView or another high-level language  (Java, C++ etc)? (Note: I have some programming experience in C (though I've never written/created a GUI) and I've never used LabView).
    Solved!

    Hi Joe1373.  In general, for a small one-off project, I would suggest you go with a language you know.
    In this case it sounds like whatever you choose you will have a learning curve, so I would recommend
    LabVIEW if that is a possibility cost-wise.  LV has a lot of built-in support for GUI development so
    you can make realtively sophisticated GUIs without a whole lot of work/learning.
    There are time-limited evaluation versions of LV available for download.  I would take a look there, especially
    the examples.  Find something a little similar to what you want to do, then change the GUI on the
    example to more closely match your ultimate objective to get a feel for the GUI development in LV.
    This forum is a great resource with some very helpful developers, so come back with questions.
    There are also many professional developers available to assist if you have a budget or inclination
    towards that direction.

  • How to configure network printer on solaris 10 intel based

    how to configure the network printer in solaris 10
    like hp laserjet printer/printers,

    Very very easy.
    Go to the print manager . (printmgr I believe or in the launch menu under preferences)
    select add a network printer
    Fill out the info. I find that the hpijs printer driver works better then the suggested foomatic on my hp 4000s. I could not print pdfs otherwise.
    Other things to know is the protocol should be BSD (at least it works for me). And add the port to the destination so 192.168.0.1:9600 for example (for hp).
    thats about it. To have it show up correctly in JDS you should probably add it to the printer list under the launch->preferences->printer preferences.

  • "wake for network access" not working

    Hi guys,
    I enabled System Preferences > Energy saver > Wake for network access
    and
    System Preferences > Sharing > remote Login
    These are the exact settings I had under Snow Leopard and it used to wake my iMac via 5GHz WiFi. I use a AirPort Extreme and didn't change a thing on its side. But neither with VNC nor with my iPad app "Screens" I am able to wake it under Lion. Screens tells me "Computer in sleep mode"...
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bado

    I've been having problems with wake for network access on Lion as well. Similarly to others, if my iMac has recently gone into sleep mode, then it will wake up for Apple TV use or for file and screen sharing from another computer. After an extended period of time, however, all such functionality disappears.
    I've been rooting around in System Profile and have found something that may be of interest. Under the Hardware section, in the Power menu, there is a parameter called 'PrioritizeNetworkReachabilityOverSleep'. On both my iMac and Macbook this is set to zero (i.e. 'no').
    Does anybody have any idea what it means? And if there is any way to change it? If I had to guess, it sounds as though there is a setting somewhere in the system configuration (thought apparently not visible from the GUI) that sets the computer to remain in sleep mode rather than briefly waking to maintain its registration with the relevant Bonjour sleep proxies.
    Hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of this, as over six months after Lion's release the problem has yet to be resolved by Apple through version updates, something that is especially frustrating given how excellent a feature wake on network access is when it can be reliably coupled with an Apple TV or Back to my Mac.

  • How to install a network card on Solaris 10

    Hi to all,
    I have installed for the first time Solaris 10 on i386 system.
    All went fine. Although Solaris did not found the PCI network card, is this normal?
    How can I install the (Realtek) network card;

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
    Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
    that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
    Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
    You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
    The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • Creating a Java GUI for a C/C++ program

    I'm tasked with creating a GUI for a multi-threaded C++ network server program that has it's main function running with a while loop that checks for keystrokes from the user. The C++ code for the loop is basically:
    while(i!='q')
    if(kbhit())
    i=getch();
    processkey(i);
    }And the processkey function performs different actions based on the key that was pressed.
    I was reading up on ways to interface between Java and C/C++ and heard of JNI, but I also found someone who suggested using the Java Robot class to send the keystrokes from my GUI to the C++ program.
    I've been trying to make a small test case application using the Robot class before trying to implement it in my larger project.
    I created a program with a JFrame with two buttons, one starts a simple C++ program that loops, waiting for keypresses and which will close when 'q' is pressed, like my main program.
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            try {
                Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:/Users/Administrator1/Desktop/Untitled2.exe");
                // TODO add your handling code here:
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                Logger.getLogger(NewJFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            // TODO add your handling code here:
        }The other button creates a Robot instance and tells that robot to send a key press of 'q', which should terminate the C++ program.
    private void jButton3ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            try {
                Robot robot = new Robot();
                // Creates the delay of 5 sec so that you can open notepad before
                // Robot start writting
                //robot.delay(5000);
                robot.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_Q);
            } catch (AWTException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
        }It isn't working though. Could it be because when the program is started from my Java app, it runs in the background rather than opening in a new command prompt window? Or is Robot not the way to go, and if so, are there any examples and/or tutorials online that could help me?

    When you clicked the button, what application do you think has the focus at that point? So what do you think consumes the keystroke that you emulated? Hint: It wouldn't be the application you intended it to go to.

  • Java GUI for Unix not showing . files

    we have discovered a strange behaviour with sapgui 7.10 rev 8 on unix (AIX and Solaris). You can't see and browse to folders starting with a . (e.g. .abc) and also files with a . are not listed in the file open dialog (for attaching files via cv02n). Does anybody experience the same behaviour and probabely has found a setting to change it?
    Thanks for any help
    Axel

    Hi Axel,
    it sounds a bit odd that this CAD integration software is writing files to hidden folders but the user later is forced to navigate inside there.
    SAP GUI for Java inherits the file chooser dialog from the Swing framework part of Java. Sun seems to have decided, that by default, hidden files and folders should not be shown.
    I am hesitating to generally switch on showing hidden files and folders because it will irritate most end users.
    We are looking into a way to add the option to switch on showing hidden files and folders by the user.
    Btw, the user can navigate into a hidden folder by entering its name and hitting return, from there the user can navigate as usual. So it is not required to enter a complete path.
    Best regards
    Rolf-Martin

  • ECP for Network

    Hello,
    I try to plan on Network Activities with ECP, however, although I configured all necessary  customizing yet I cannot see any NWA on the ECP GUI.
    This problem was allready discussed and solved at this forum but non of the suggestions help me to solve  it.
    The required configuration steps I allready made:
    1. Activate planning for network activities with ECP
    2. Define CO version for ECP
    3. Activate multiple CO version
    4. Define Alternative CO version
    The network contained a costing variant for planning

  • Iphone 5s - Calls Breaking Up - Searching for Network

    Hello.
    I recently started using my new Iphone 5s and I have a big problem.
    Every call I get or make, the call suddenly breaks up during the first minute. My network reception bar drops to 1 bar, then says "searching..." briefly, and then it comes back. But the call is already gone. There are no problems when I remake the call. But I get this problem with every single call that I make. I've never had a problem with my Iphone 4 for 2 years, so I don't think it's about my carrier. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions?

    I have the same problem. My phone keeps "Searching..." for network, and if I don't fix it, it can go on like that for days. I tried several solutions, Reset Network Settings, Reset All Settings, hard reset, and finally I restored my iphone to factory settings then re installed ios 8.1.3, which I had trouble doing because my phone took 4 days to finally have a successful restore. I am not sure if this is about updating to ios 8.1.3, but all of this happened to my iphone 5s a few days after updating. Anyway, after my phone had miraculously went thru with the restore, my phone was back to the way it was, but after 2 days, it went back to searching for network again whenever I get to an area with poor signal. I put phone in Airplane mode for about 10-20 mins, then turn off Airplane mode to check if signal is back. If it still  doesnt, I reset network settings, then airplane mode again. I have not yet used reset all settings since my iPhone restore. I tried to google and see if this really is an ios problem or just my case, then I came across your question. The latest fix I did just this morning is I plugged my phone to my wall charger and tried to dial a number and pressing the green call button several times until the signal went back. That was by far the simplest solution I have discovered, but I still can't say if that IS the solution because it was just my first time to do it. I advise you not to restore your phone because in my case, mine took 4 days to until i was able to use my phone again since restoring wasn't working. You don't want to end up with a dead brick phone. With mine,  I just kept trying until it went thru and I don't think I will be doing the restore all over again because of what happened.  I hope this is just a problem with ios update and that apple will soon find a permanent fix to this.

  • Server 2012 R2 - The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter

    We seem to be having an issue recently after introducing new Windows Server 2012 R2 servers where they fail to register DNS correctly. The Windows Firewall is off and the servers are on the same VLAN with no firewalls between them.
    When I do an ipconfig /registerdns or wait 24 hours for the system to try we get the following error:
    The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter
    with settings:
               Adapter Name : {4A0ECF05-193F-4BEA-AA46-BEC593BA752B}
               Host Name : SRV-DATA
               Primary Domain Suffix : internal.local
               DNS server list :
    192.168.0.50, 192.168.0.42
               Sent update to server : <?>
               IP Address(es) :
                 192.168.0.99
    The reason the system could not register these RRs was because the DNS server contacted refused the update request. The reasons for this might be (a) you are not allowed to update the specified DNS domain name, or (b) because the DNS server authoritative
    for this name does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol.
    To register the DNS host (A or AAAA) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator.
    On our DNS server we have set for the internal.local zone Secure Updates only so that looks good because it is Active Directory that should be handling this authentication to update the record I assume. Just to mention that when also doing an ipconfig /regsiterdns
    the update fails within a few seconds.
