GUI - Set Maximum Size

Hello,
I tried setting the maximum size of the screen using this:
WelcomeScreen screen2 = new WelcomeScreen();
                         screen2.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
                         //screen1.setSize(550, 100);
                         screen2.setSize(screen2.getMaximumSize());But it is bigger than the screen, not by much, but still bigger and also, the maximize icon is present (normally when I window is fully maxed it will appear as a restore icon)
Please help!

    Hi All,
    How to set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF.
    I have a RTF whch is having a field in that i need to add some validation condition but after adding certain condition in Add help text tab ,it is not accepting after certain length, how i can increase the length to unlimited,please help me on this
    Thnaks

    Form fields have some restrictions if your are using version lower than 11g.
    They can accommodate only 393 chars. You can add the text in both status bar and help key, which can in total consume 393 chars.
    If your code logic is more than that, it can be split into multiple form fields as Avinash suggested or you can use sub template logic and handle coding over there. Again in sub template code can be within/outside form fields.
    So there is no option for user to increase the size of form field.

  • Set Maximum size for a subpanel created with splitter bars in LV8

    Does anyone know how to set the Maximum size for a subpanel created with asplitter bar? If I show one cluster in the subpanel and use the scroll bar to scroll, I can see more (blank) area than I want. I just want the user to be able to scroll a cluster within a subpanel while the cluster is larger than the view area of the subpanel. I don't want to let the user scroll outside the cluster.

    I apologize for the mixup in terminology. Please read Pane wherever the word Subpanel was used.
    Please see the attached VI for a description of my problem.
    I would really appreciate any help with this.

  • JLabel: how to set maximum size in layout?

    I have a BorderLayout that i want to show a JLabel in NORTH. I use HTML in the label message text with one line being centered with <center>. If the overall text of the label is long/big enough, i.e. subsequent text results in line breaks, the cenetered line is cenetered correctly.
    however, if the subsequent text is just small, all lines are left justified/adjusted. i guess, the JLabel dimension is not maximized to the maximum available spave in the NORTH area of BorderLayout.
    I tried adding the JLabel directly or within a JPanel (also with BorderLayout, then with add(label, BorderLayout.CENTER)), also first set the size of the dialog, added all components and just added the text to the label at the last position. doesn't help.

    Tip: putting a border on a JComponent like JLabel helps you see how its parent container is sizing it. I don't know what HTML mark-up you are using, but is the centering necessary?
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.border.*;
    public class Ex {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            JFrame f = new JFrame("Ex");
            f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            Container cp = f.getContentPane();
            String text = "Example text";
            Border b = BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.BLUE);
            JLabel label0 = new JLabel(text, SwingConstants.CENTER);
            label0.setBorder(b);
            JLabel label1 = new JLabel(text);
            label1.setBorder(b);
            cp.add(label0, BorderLayout.NORTH);
            cp.add(label1, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
            f.setSize(400,100);
            f.setLocationRelativeTo(null);

  • How to set MAXIMUM size of a formatted string?

    Hello
    Assume I have an Object foo with a
    toString(){ return "a long name to print"; }and that I want to print it with minimum space of 40, I would say
    System.out.printf("foo say: %1$40s", foo.toString() )But I need very often to set a maximum width, so that any strings or fields wider than this is truncated. Eg:
    System.out.printf("foo say: %1$5s", foo.toString())gives i.e. "foo say: a l..". Is this possible, using the Formatter class (or similar) in Java? So far I have created my own class to enable this, but I want to use as much predefiend classes as possible.
    Regards
    Fluid

    You need to use a precision argument:
    String foo = "a long name to print";
    System.out.printf("foo say: %.8s", foo); // 8 maxhttp://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/util/Formatter.html#syntax

  • Put smart ad into window to set maximum size?

    I am building an application using Flash Pro CC and Air for Android and I have encountered an issue. I need to put the smart advertisment I have inside of the application inside of a window/frame/box/div that will prevent it from rendering past a certain size. It is rendered using AS3 so the window containing it will need to be AS3 as well. Thank you in advance!

    I just tried using safe mode, and no change. I type in a text editor box, or search field, etc. and the window goes huge. I was kind of hoping it was an add-on causing the issue, that would be such an easy fix. Un-install that addon, and my window size stays the same! But no such luck.
    It is not maximized, as it would be by selecting the maximized option. Nor is it fullscreen mode (F11 just makes the whole thing get all bizarre, seriously I can't even see the location bar when I do that). It's just a normal window, expanded to fill the whole screen. Before clicking in a text field, I will have the window size set to a square that fills roughly 3/4 of my wide screen monitor. I have this bizarre idea that when I size a window to that setting it ought to stay there until I tell it otherwise. Apparently, Firefox 5 disagrees, and believes it should fill every available corner of the monitor, whenever it chooses. Sigh.

  • Set Maximum size for combobox editor in JTable

    Hi guys.
    I have a JTable with a custom JTextArea as editor for string datatypes.
    On the other hand, I have a combo editor too for some other columns of the table.
    My question is to know whether I can force the combox editor not to grow along with the text area.
    When I have a multiline text in a cell, I don 't want the combo box editor to fill the entire height of the row (the row height is continuously adjusted as user enter text into the text area cell editor), but to remain as big as just to render one line.
    Thanks.

    you know there's a swing forum, why not use it :-)
    As to your problem: the basicUI simply forces all editors to fit the cell size, returning more reasonable max-sizes for the combo wouldn't help. Way out might be to wrap into a panel with an appropriate layoutManager. Not entirely trivial, would expect some work ...
    Cheers

  • I want to set a maximum size for pictures when FF shows websites. How can i do that? NO I DONT MEAN "HOW TO ZOOM".

    I have FF 34 but this problem has been there for a lot of earlier versions. On many webpages there are pictures that cover my whole screen, and I want to set maximum size for showing images on webpages.
    I ONLY wanr to change the maximum size of the images, AND IAM NOT asking about how to zoom the webpage.

    Do you want to hide large images or merely make them smaller by setting a max-width and max-height?
    You would probably have to use JavaScript (bookmarklet) to achieve this reliably.
    There are bookmarklets to make large images fit in the window to avoid a horizontal scroll bar
    You can try this code in the <b>userContent.css</b> file (adjust the max-width accordingly).
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/userContent.css
    <pre><nowiki>img { max-width: 1024px !important; height: auto !important; }</nowiki></pre>
    The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration
    *Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
    *Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userContent.css file in the chrome folder (file name is case sensitive)
    *Paste the code in the userContent.css file in the editor window
    *Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userContent.css.<br>Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userContent.css.txt file

  • Maximum size of a JComboBox in a GridBagLayout

    I'm having a problem with a JComboBox inside a GridBagLayout. The general layout is a GridBag with labels / combo / textfields on the first line, a large table in a scrollpane that takes all columns on the second line, and a few labels / combo / textfields on the third.
    As long as the combo on the first combo is empty, it looks fine. When it gets populated, the combo gets resized to the size of the largest text. I would like to have it smaller and truncate the text.
    I tried to set maximum size, but the GridBag doesnt care. I've been trying with weightx but no success.
    What should I do ?

    And I would be interested which LayoutManager you prefer using.I don't use a single Layout Manager. I use a combination of Layout Managers to do the job. Thats why this question doesn't have a specific example. Remember LayoutManagers can be nested. The default layout manager for a frame is a border layout. That great for the general look of your application.
    a) you add a toolbar to the north
    b) you add a status bar to the south
    c) you add your main panel to the center.
    the main panel in turrn may use nested panels depending on your requirements. I don't do a lot of screen design but I typically use BorderLayout, FlowLayout, GridLayout and BoxLayout. GridBagLayout and SpringLayout have too many constraints to learn and master. They may be good for a GUI tool that only uses a single layout manager for the entire GUI, but I believe a better design is to break down the form into smaller more manageable areas and group components and use the appropriate layout manager for the group. That may or may not be a GridBagLayout for the small group, but I don't think you should force the entire form to use a GridbagLayout.

  • Forms: How to set a maximum size in Text Fields with automatic size

    ¡Hi!
    When I set a text field on my forms and I use automatic size for te text that the user can write, if the user don't need more space than the field size, when the text appears, Adobe Acrobat Pro always set the text-size to 14 or higher. How can I set a maximum size for that text? For example... 12 or 10...
    Thank you very much,
    Best regards from Spain,
    David.

    Ok. If I use a single line text field, changing the height of the field seems to be a simple way to solve the problem, but... what should I do when the fields are multi-lineal?
    Thanx for your quick answer.

  • IView Deployment - how to set maximum file size?

    Hello,
    we have a problem while deploying iViews and uploading files to enterprise portal . The maximum upload file size seems to be limited to 1 MB. I have to deploy an iView greater than 1 MB. While deploying with netweaver developer studio I get following error message

    The direct upload of *.par with EP Component Manager also does not work. After clicking upload-button I get a standard http error page "aktion abgebrochen".
    Also on upload of any other document, for example personal documents which are bigger than 1 MB, I get this error.
    If I reduce file size of portal archiv lower than 1MB I can deploy and upload the iView.
    How canI set maximum upload file size in Enterprise Portal?

  • How Do You Set the Maximum Size of a JFrame?

    Can someone show me a quick example? The JFrame can be empty, I just want to know how to set it's maximum size. I tried using setMaximumSize() and it doesn't work for some reason but setMinimumSize() works fine.
    I tried it using a BoxLayout and even using null as a layout manager and can't get it to work. I heard that the other layout managers don't allow you to set the maximum size of a JFrame so that is why I tried it with the layouts that I did.
    I tried the following code (imported the necessary classes), but it does not work...
    public class MyFrame extends JFrame
        public MyFrame()
            super("TestFrame");
            setLayout( new BoxLayout(getContentPane(), BoxLayout.X_AXIS)  );
            setMaximumSize( new Dimension(400,200));

            setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);

    When you repost a topic, please always provide a link to the previous post so people can check what suggestions were already offered (and didn't solve the problem).
    Better still, give a short summary of the advice you have already tried.
    I suggested setBackground(...) so you can see whether your MyFrame is actually occupying the entire real estate of the window. Looks as if trying it out (which I would have done for you if I'd been at home, where my JDK is) would have been too much effort for you.
    I'm pretty much a novice in Swing, but I can tell you this: setLayout controls the layout of components added to the JFrame, not the layout of the frame with respect to its parent container.
    Luck, Darryl

    Are you displaying your MyFrame as a top-level window or adding it to a parent JFrame with null or BoxLayout set?
    Maybe the method you're looking for is setMaximizedBounds(Rectangle bounds)
    You could also try this: setBackground(...) to something other than the default background and run your program again.
    I'm at work and can't try ou any of my suggestions, so please post back if you get any progress.
    dbsetMaximizedBounds is a little better but not really what I was looking for. I can still make the window go passed the set boundaries when the window hasn't been maximized.
    Also, I checked that method setBackground, that only seems to change the color, is that the same method you were referring to?

  • Maximum size for an HttpRequest? Set Content-Length?

    Hi, I'm managing to get small strings sent from my applet to my servlet, but when I try anything bigger, I get problems. Oddly enough, the larger object can get sent to my applet from my servlet without any issues.
    Can anyone tell me if there is a maximum size for sending responses?
    Or, if I have to set the content-length property in my applet before I send my data, how do I get the size of my object so I can set it?
    thanks for any advice any of you might have

    Thanks for the pointers.
    BalusC, at first I was trying to write my object without sending it through a byteStream first (hence the q) :), tried it that way too and wouldn't work.
    I finally figured out that it wasn't the code that was the problem, but it was an upload issue (server specific). Have changed the code to sending one line of data at a time since I was converting my object to an output file in the servlet anyway. Not the best solution but it works :)
    Thanks again

  • Set maximum matrix row and column size

    I hope someone can help me with this. Is there any way to set the row and column size of a matrix control? I have not been able to find a solution. The only way I've been able to set the size is by resetting matrix to its previous state if the user inputs a value outside of the bounds I would like to set. This is done in the 'value changed' event case.
    The matrix is large and therefore I cannot increase the size of the control to be the maximum size and then hide the row and column index controls. These have to be displayed.
    Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Here's a quick and dirty way.
    Simply hide the index controls and replace them with some fake numeric controls and set the data range accoding to your requirements.
    In the attached example (LV8.0), the fake index controls are limited to 0..2, the array size is 5x5 and the displayed array portion is 3x3. Seems to work fine.
    (Of course you could add a bit more code to set the limits automatically based on the various sizes.)
    You could also make it more fancy and turn the entire thing into an Xcontrol.
