GUI toolkit for Java ME/ CDC devices

I have written in my blog about:
GUI toolkit for Java ME/ CDC devices: http://ovenordstrom.blogspot.com/2006/08/gui-toolkit-for-java-me-cdc-devices.html
and
ERCP - Embedded Rich Client Platform, soon with the first release of eRCP:
http://ovenordstrom.blogspot.com/2006/08/ercp-embedded-rich-client-platform.html
That perhaps is interesting for Java ME/PP developers

  • Using JavaFX to rewrite GUI layer for Java Desktop Swing application

    From the faq's on javafx.com I read the following:
    I currently build applications in Java. Can I reuse my Java libraries in JavaFX Script?
    Yes. You can leverage the power of Java by using any Java library within a JavaFX application.
    This way you can preserve your investment in Java and use JavaFX to build engaging visual experiences.
    Can I use JavaFX to develop a user interface for my Java program?
    While it's easy to write your application in JavaFX and call into Java where necessary,
    the inverse - writing a Java application that calls into JavaFX for the user interface - is not yet true.
    We expect this to be addressed in the near future.
    * Perhaps I'm missing something, but I do not see the difference between the two questions, but they give completely different answers?
    * We have a swing application that we might want to use JavaFX to replace the current Swing user interface, however, we also have alot of business logic / communications code written in
    * Java that we aren't going to rewrite.
    Could someone tell me why the two questions have different answers?
    Thanks. Cheers.

    Hi Josh,
    I'm facing serious issue trying to invoke a javafx class from my java code. Could you please suggest a way to do it. Even hacks would be ood enough for now.
    I have created file Clock.fx. When run individually from my IDE (i'm using NetBeans) it works fine. But when i try to invoke it from a java class in project in throws exception.
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    ScriptEngineManager manager = new ScriptEngineManager();
    JavaFXScriptEngine fxEngine = (JavaFXScriptEngine) manager.getEngineByName("javafx");
    System.out.print("created fxEngine");
    try {
    Object o = fxEngine.eval ("Clock { property: \"Clock\" }");
    fxEngine.invokeMethod (o, "create");
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    I get following exception
    Exception thrown in JavaFX pretty printing: java.io.FileNotFoundException: \tmp\___FX_SCRIPT___.fxdump from StringInputBuffer (The system cannot find the path specified)

  • Gui support for java

    hello friends,
    i am new to SUN fortran compiler. i have installed it. But what i have heard it has a gui interface to write fortran code and debug it. But i cant find it. is my installation incomplete or i am missing something? Command line compilation is working fine.

    There should be a sunstudio command. That will start the IDE (integrated development environment), which has an editor, debugger, and performance analysis tools.

  • Gui710 for java rev7 run in ubuntu(linux os)

    hello,
    I install the gui 710 for java rev7 in ubuntu(linux) whose java version is sun java Version 6 Update 11 . I can only run the guilogon and start graphic window in the command mode, but can not start graphic window when double click the guillogon icon in start menu. can you give me any solutions?

    It sounds to me that your gnome-terminal uses different environment variables than your shell (bash/csh/..).
    Please try the following:
    (1) create a file in the /?/SAPGui/bin directory called guilogon_local
    (2) The content of the file should be:
    #!/bin/sh
    export PLATIN_JAVA=###PATH to your 32bit JAVA executable
    /?/SAPGUI/bin/guilogon
    (3) chmod and chown the new file so you/your user can execute it.
    (4) change the comand attached to the SAP GNOME-Icon to your new guilogon_local
    The new file will actually set the PLATIN_JAVA environment and call afterwards the linked guilogon.

  • How to set default audio device for java apps on Linux?

    I would like to find a way to choose a particular (ALSA) audio device for java applications. How can this be done without reprogramming the application or changing the default ALSA device? I came across "sound.properties", but could not find any information how to use this file on an ALSA system.
    Thanks for any help, Mark

    Eugenia wrote:Well, it's still not good enough.
    We can't satisfy everyone. What you want is a corner case. For most people ALSA and dmix works appropriately, and that is what esd uses by default. We cannot document and automate every configuration possible. That's up to the users.
    However, if you don't want to restart gnome, try the below... I make a few assumptions, but even if they're wrong, they're hardly difficult to work around.
    Just copy the /etc/esd.conf to ~/.esd.conf, make your change, then do killall esd. Presumably gnome will restart esd, and it ought to read your local config. If it doesnt, start it yourself.
    Feel free to write a script that automates this, or document it on the wiki.
    I have to restart Gnome to get this thing working. Other OSes *automatically* can use an alternative device. But if I change ESD, I will have to restart Gnome, no?
    Well, if you try my suggestion above, no. You can restart esd yourself. And that's what all the other distros do, except with some fancy GUI.

    U mean to say, for JSP/Servlets, "Web based application" as well as "JSP/Servlet" usually implies that the client is a simple web browser.
    we cannot have swing as front end?You can use Swing inside an Applet inside a web application, but usually that's not needed, as you already have a client application that's quite powerful (the browser).

  • New Features for Java GUI

    Hello everyone!
    Can anybody tell about new features in SAP GUI for Java. I think It's emasculate now. It doesn't contain New ABAP editor, Network graphic, normal Screen Painter... I really enjoy adding themes and other stuff, but when these functionality will be added?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
      I use Java GUI from version 6.40, so i didn't know new ABAP editor for years. Once somebody shows me its features ...and I found that it is really good editor compared with previous Notepad-like frontend editor. But I have to say that customized version od Gvim used as external editor is in 90% better then new ABAP editor (the only problem is that double click on object doesn't work, but some workarounds are known for double-click on locally defined objects).
    Graphical screen painter is generally good tool, but once I cannot find any feature (sorry, I forgot which one, it happens about 6 years ago). I ask a SAP guru sitting near me. He comes, switch graphical screen painter off and click to a box in non-graphical version of screen painter. Then he told me that some features are not accessible in graphical screen painter. It was last time I used graphical version of screen painter.
    Themes? Works .... at least for me (Linux 32 bit and now Linux 64 bit too).
    So I think that Java GUI is usable (at least on Linux/Mac, I am not sure how in works under Windows) but you cannot stick on all features (and maybe you can find better working variants of it). E. g. I have no problem with new ABAP editor, it would be much better for me, if I can open external editor clicking to "Change" button in SE38 directly instead of click plus selecting external editor from menu.
    Regards,
      Pavel
