GUI_UPLOAD & GUI_DOWNLOAD
Hi Could anyone please explain me kind of inputs that I need to give to this Function Module. I want to import one excel file and need to do some processing on it and replace original excel file by new one.
Can i Use above mentioned Function Modules to satisfy my requirements?

Using GUI_UPLOAD/GUI_DOWNLOAD in ECC 6.0 with Code page mentioned as 'IBM' gave short dump saying :
The program attempted to interpret the value 'IBM ' as a number, but since the value contravenes the rules for correct number formats.
Please provide wth explanation/solution to this.

Use parameter CODEPAGE to specify the desired target codepage. If this parameter is not set, the codepage of the SAP GUI is used as the target codepage.
4-digit number of the SAP codepage. Function module SCP_CODEPAGE_BY_EXTERNAL_NAME returns the SAP codepage number for an external character set name such as "iso-8859-1". Function module NLS_GET_FRONTEND_CP returns the related non-Unicode frontend codepage for a language.
You can specify the desired codepage interactively, if the parameter with_encoding of method file_save_dialog is set by cl_gui_frontend_services.

Hi experts,
I want to upload excel file into sap. i am trying with GUI_Upload function module. when i see the data it is filled with # and other special char. When i save the excel file as .txt file and then read the txt file. Now i am getting correct data. Is it possible to read Excel data using GUI_UPLOAD directly without changing .xls to .txt.
Also, how to change data in second or third tab of excel file using GUI_Download.

Function like GUI_UPLOAD/GUI_DOWNLOAD for background
Is there a function or functions that work the same way as GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD but can be run both in the foreground and background?
GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD can only work in the foreground. The reason for this is that they use some code which reside on the frontend PC. A background process knows nothing of the PC connected thru SAPgui. In order to "download" data to files, you must write the files to the application layer using OPEN DATASET, TRANSFER DATASET, CLOSE DATASET.

Running BDC program in background for the transaction VL02N
Hi All,
I have coded a BDC program (call transaction method) for the transaction code VL02N. I can able to run the program manually & successfully. But if I execute the program in background(SM36), it is going to dump giving CNTL_ERROR.
Note: I am not using any of the GUI_UPLOAD, GUI_DOWNLOAD funciton modules in the program. But I am using the FTP command funtion modules like( FTP_COMMAND, FTP_CONNECT, FTP_DISCONNECT and FTP_SERVER_TO_R/3).

Hi Gurus,
I would like to Know how to declare a Dynamic table in Tables parameters of a Function Module.
so that it should be able to hold any table data ....
I have tried all possible ways of trying to assign fields-symbol like declarations which doesnt allow here ...
plz Dont reply with the basics of creating dynamic internal tables, coz my case is not an Internal table it is FM table parameter declaration.....Hi,
If you are requirement is to create a function module with tables parameter having a generic line type i.e. no specific line type
just declare it with a name under Parameter name with out specifying the type.
A reference function module with such parameter, i would quote is the standard GUI_UPLOAD/ GUI_DOWNLOAD where the parameters specified under TABLES are generic.
If you want to process the values passed to these parameters in the source code of function module, field symbols would be a preferable option.

I have a requiremnt to downloading .xml/.txt data to presentation server while running background.
when i run the program in foreground with use of GUI_upload/ Gui_download its working fine but not working in background.
i can't use email/data download to database file and than get it option as data can be huge.
Can anybody help me out regarding this.

You could try to create a Shell Command (transaction SM69) to transfer data in a shared directory.
You can execute Os Commands using function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE

How to access a file in the network shared drive

I have a pdf file in a netwoek share drive which opeates on windows platform. I want to access this file. the path to the file looks something like this
acddfd\sap\sapdir\myfile.pdf
I have tried gui_upload , gui_download , ws_upload and ws_download FM. But I am getting file_read error. Is therey any settings i need to made.
I can access the above path from windows menu start->run.

sankarGUI_UPLOAD / DOWNLOAD is the way to go. If you can access the directory/file that doesn't mean necessarily that the R/3 system can 'see' it as well. Your local frontend is connected to that share, but I would check with your basis that the application servers where R/3 is running do have access to that share as well.
Also does the R/3 user you are using have the same access right to the network as your Windows Network user?
We had a similar problem and eventually it was just an authorization issue with the R/3 user.

I need to created web service for import file from .NET application into SAP.
ABAP function expect hexadecimal string (same as GUI_UPLOAD / GUI_DOWNLOAD) but hexadecimal string from C# is too long (double longer), and I have no idea how to convert it. Also there is a problem with code page...

Please bear in mind that your SAP system is based on UTF-8 encoding. Since you have the xstring length doubled, most probably your sender system uses UTF-16 encoding. So what you need to do is change the encoding used by your .NET application when sending the data to SAP.
Alternatively, you can try using XSL Transformations in ABAP to have the input data converted from UTF-16-encoded xstring to ABAP structures. You can find a little example in this thread: ABAP data to XML conv with UTF-8 encoding and custom namespace. The point is to start your XSLT with the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>.

ABAP Changes for release ECC 5.0
Hi experts,
Can anybody please give me a list of all the changes in ABAP language, that are made from 4.6c to ECC5.0.

First of all you need to check the 'UNICODE CHECKS ACTIVE' and initial steps to be taken care as follows:
1)Replace the sy-repid with the variable v_repid by passing sy-repid to it.
2)Replace the FM WS_UPLOAD/WS_DOWNLOAD UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD
with the GUI_UPLOAD & GUI_DOWNLOAD.
3)The assignment like IT_ITAB1[] = IT_ITAB2[] is not possible in the ECC 5.0 untill & unless both are of the similar structure. It gives a syntax error.
4)Replace '09'(Hexadecimal character) by declaring a varibale and assigning the value of ABAP_CHAR_UTILITES=>HORIZONTAL_TAB which is in the class ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES.
Like these there are many things to be noted down.
