Guidance in Recovery Procedure

Hi All,
I need a little further guidance on my Grid set up, with respect to backup and recovery configuration.
My environment:
Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard Edition Service Pack 1
Grid Control Release 2 (Repository DB: 10.2.0.4)
Target DB: Both 9i and 10g (Rel.1 & 2)
My Issue:
I have currently confifured database backup for all the targets through the "Maintenance" tab. The backup is done directly to tape (via TDP) using RMAN. The backups are running successfully.
I tested the recovery and am able to recover to the same server/location to where the database is without any issue..by using the "Recover Database" option.
I also need to be able to restore the databases to a different server/location from the tape...by using the Grid Control.
Could you folks please guide me as to how this can be done? All the DBs are in the NOARCHIVELOG mode....and the backup done is only cold backup. I backup the controlfile and parameter file as well...along with the database backup.
The "Clone Database" option, which I did try requires the DB to be open...when in the NOARCHIVELOG mode...so I am not sure if that could be done. Hope that one of you could help me out on this......
Thanking you all in advance.....
Regards,
Sriraman

  • SAP XI 3.0 Disaster recovery procedure

    Hi,
Can someone provide me with a disaster recovery procedure for XI 3.0?
I always thought a normal online backup/restore procedure + recovery redologs + file system backup/restore would be sufficient but there's an internal discussion in our team that more is required for a consistent DR procedure.
Eg: what about XI interfaces? How preventing that a processed file is not processed twice? Etc....
We are running on Oracle 10.2.0.4, XI 3.0 SP 21
    Thanks for helping me out.

    Bert

    Hi,
Prepare a list of activities to be performed before and after the DR.
1.Before bringing down the actual system, you may have to stop the related jobs, stop sending Idocs to the XI system, lock the RFC users so that no more Idocs will be sent.Process all the messages and monitor them end to end before bringing down the actual system. Also, check the queues and see if they are all clear.
2.Once the DR system is up,the RFC destinations should be configured correctly to point to the target. You can then do the testing of interfaces in the DR system after activating the Communication channels.
3.Once the testing is complete and the actual system bought up,you will have to do the health check, check the RFC destinations, unlock RFC users and monitor end to end to see if the messages are flowing through successfully.
In order to avoid errors like processing the file twice, you may have to stop all the Communication channels in the Actual system before bringing them down. After the testing in the DR system is complete, you can unlock the RFC users and restart the channels so that the new messages coming in will be processed.
    Hope this helps.

  • SA 520 Password Recovery Procedure?

I fully configured the appliance and, of course, changed the enable  password, and then failed to document it, somehow, and I've long since forgotten it. I've looked for a recovery procedure, but haven't found one.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? So far, it seems like the only option is a factory reset and I'm hoping I'm wrong.
    Thanks.

    Hi zacmutrux,
Thank you for posting. Unfortunately you will have to set the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it. There is no password recovery procedure available for any of our SMB routers.

  • Password Recovery Procedure SPS224G

Hello! Does not work to restore the password in SPS224G4. When selecting the menu [3] Password Recovery Procedure gives the message: Current password will be ignored!. Please help.

    Nikitka,
Once you have selected option 3, you should select the option "back", it is number 6 I believe. The device will continue to boot. Once you are at the login prompt, use admin as the login name and leave the password blank. Execute this and you should be granted access to the device. change the password immediately for the admin account as bypassing the password only works once and then the device returns to normal operation. Let me know If you have any trouble at all.
    Thank you,

  • Backup and Recovery procedures for production system

I am trying to decide and test a best backup/recovery approach for our DBXML database in the production environment. Right now I am trying to go through the documentation.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg_txn/CXX/filemanagement.html
What is the best option among offline, hot and incremental backups?
I am thinking of implementing incremental backups.
What are the constraints in implementing incremental backups? Is there a detailed step by step example to do this?
Can I test the backup and recovery procedures by copying the db files and log files from Linux (production) environment to my local machine (Windows XP)? I see only one log.00000000xx file in production and staging environments. It is of same size 52428800 in all our environments (both production and staging) at this point of time.
What is __db.001 file? What is the significance of this file in backup and recovery procedures?
A detailed input with example is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advancs

    Raghu,
A couple of points, up front:
    1. the __db* files are the environment (cache, locks, various shared memory regions), and are not part of backup, other than the fact that you need to checkpoint or otherwise flush your cache to your database(s) for a full backup.
    2. log files are not architecture-neutral. That is you can't use a log file created on linux and just use it safely on another hardware platform. It's OK to copy them around, but they can only be used on the same architecture that created them. Database files (containers) are entirely portable among hardware and operating system platforms.
I don't know of a step-by-step cookbook for backups. This is because of the variations among application needs. However, the procedures described on this page are pretty straightforward:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg_txn/CXX/backuprestore.html
I'm not sure what you mean by "constraints" on incremental backups. The only constraint is that you need to have a full backup first, or you won't be able to recover properly. Based on what I said above, the other constraint is that you'll only be able to recover on a machine of the same architecture as the one that created the log files.
As for testing, you can certainly copy your database and log files to your Windows machine, treating Windows as an offline backup. If you want to test recovery, you need to copy the files back to Linux. You'll start seeing additional log files when your log data starts to exceed the configured log file size.
Let me know if you need more clarification,
    Regards,
    George

  • Does password recovery procedure on CM allow you into GUI?

I have a customer with 3 WAAS appliances and a CM running WAAS 4.1.3a. The customer has lost their network engineer and they do not have the admin passwords. I can telnet to the CLI of all devices but I am trying to access the CM GUI and don't get privileged access with my account. The CM has 2 accounts showing in the config, the admin account and another which is specific to this customer. Both have privilege 15 but I don't know the password to either. The primary authentication mechanisms for login and configuration are set to tacacs with the secondary set to local. I am able to login to the command line using a support account that we have the password for so it appears that tacacs is working but if I use this account on the GUI it logs me in but does not give me privileged access to the GUI. I think I read somewhere that the GUI uses a different authentication mechanism and to get privileged access to the GUI the account has to be created within the GUI. Is that right?
Unfortunately I don't have access to the tacacs server and we don't look after it so I can't just change the admin password in the tacacs server.
With the support account I have on the CLI, when I try to change the admin account password it says:
    waas-cm(config)#username admin passwd
Warning: User configuration performed via CLI may be overwritten
by the central manager.  Please use the central manager to configure
    user accounts.
    New WAAS password:
If I try to login to the GUI using the new password I set then it doesn't work but I am not sure if that is because it is trying to use tacacs to authenticate the GUI or because the CM over-wrote it.
I found the password recovery/change procedure but I wasn't sure if this would help me get into the GUI or just the cli. If I reload the box and follow the procedure to change the admin password then will this change the password used by the GUI? Should I be concentrating on the CM or focussing on the tacacs server which isn't in this site and which I don't look after? If I change the admin password using the recovery procedure and then remove the tacacs config then will I be able to get into the GUI using the new admin password? Any other suggestions of what I can do?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Tim,
Since you have CLI access to the CM, why not telnet/ssh to the CM remove the TACACS configuration temporarily so users aren't check against TACACS when you try to login to the CM GUI.  Then since you don't know the admin password you could change it via the CLI command you previously used, and then try to login to the CM GUI with that admin account.
Once you have the known admin account you can reconfigure your TACACS configuration as it was before.
Now I suspect the reason you were able to login to the CM GUI with the support account, but you had no privileges was because this support user or the group in TACACS it belongs to was not defined in the CM GUI under Admin -> AAA -> Users.  Since the TACACS server in this case does the authentication, but the authorization to view certain pages within the CM GUI is done on the CM itself.  So, it is required to have the user or the group defined in the CM GUI with the appropriate role(s) associated to that object.
Once you define this support user account within the CM GUI it too should have access when TACACS is enabled.   Here are the steps I would take:
Log into your CM via SSH/Telent with your TACACS user
credentials.  Once in here do the following:
    NC-WAAS-CM(config)#no authentication fail-over server-unreachable
    NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login local enable primary
    NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login tacacs enable secondary
Log into the CM GUI with the local WAE credentials (admin, ).
Go to Admin -> AAA -> Users -> Add a user -> Specify the support username
you added to your TACACS server and click Submit (no need to change any other
fields) -> Select Role Management -> Assign this user the admin role (or
whichever custom role(s) you have defined) and click submit.
    Back on the CLI:
    NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login local enable secondary
    NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login tacacs enable primary
    NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication fail-over server-unreachable
Log out of the CM GUI, and try to log back in with your TACACS credentials.
Here is the configuration guide section on user accounts and groups which may help explain in more detail.

  • S10-3S: BIOS Update issue - Recovery procedure possible ?

    Dear all,
yesterday i flash the new Bios  "LM30_0128 / 38CN11WW" into my S10-3S (Memory compatibility Bios)
    under Windows 7-Home 32Bit.

PowerSwitch on. No Bios beep. No Infos. Nothing ! Only the 3left LEDs are white ! The Screen is death !
So i research the Lenovo Forums about to fixing this.
I found a lot of Informations about the BIOS Recovery Procedure and try different versions about that.
I create the "Crisis" Emergency Floppy /USB Stick with the Files inside the "LM30_0128.exe". No Problems !
I try USB Floppy and USB Stick but nothing happens if i press the different Keyboard Combinations:
    FN+F, FN+R, FN+ESC, FN+B, Windows+F, Windows+R, Windows+ESC, Windows+B . No access
to floppy or USB Stick ! No Boot Process. Nothing !

  • OS X Snow Leopard Looking for an explanation for an DIY Harddisk data recovery procedure

    Hi There,
Yesterday my 13" Unibody MacBook (A1278) popped up an "Invalid B-Tree Node Size" Mac OS X Error. searching the internet for on a solution and explanation so far gave me headaches. And did not provide me guidance for an proper Do It Yourself procedure. Off course I want to have data recovered for which no backup is available (a forced clean install now is not an option!). When booting with the install DVD and then using Diskutility fails (yes the simple recovery does not work in my case). I read about using third party software solutions (e.g. data rescue or DiskWarior) but the how to is not clear to me, which steps need to be performed ? How can such an data recovery process be performed ? What sort of hardware or wires are needed to do this ? The only Apple Machines I can use now are a other 15” MacbookPro  and an Windows XP desktop. I bought a Sharkoon SATA Quickport XT (USB3) but this product is still wrapped because I am not sure it will (or I will get it to) run under OS X. So again can anyone provide me a walkthrough for such a (troubleshooting) HDD data recovery process?
The data that needs to be recovered concerns foto's and PhD writing material in the end process of some to be published articles.
Thnx in advance for your comment!

First order of busness is to get your data off the 13"
If this data is of extreme importance, your better off letting a professional computer support specialist handle it.
Do not use Disk Warrior yet, it could make matters worse. Your data needs to be recovered and it can be provided nothing further is done to the drive.
The first 3 methods below are designed to be passive, just trying to read the data and get it safely off the hard drive first.
There is no need to extract the hard drive from the computer yet. This in itself can cause further damage.
1: Unwrap the Sharkoon SATA Quickport XT USB 3 and stick a blank internal drive in it.
If you don't have one, then return that device and/or get yourself a external powered USB 3, 2 or 1 (3 is backward compatible with 2, 1) hard drive, runs about $100 for a 1TB drive.
Hook this drive up to the 15" MacBook Pro and in your Utilities Folder is Disk Utilities.
Select this new drive and Erase > format it HFS+ Journaled with Security Option > Zero all data. (going to take a bit to complete)
2:  Use the Windows PC or the 15" MacBook Pro to download a ISO copy of PartedMagic. Burn it to a blank cd using Windows 7 right click and burn, or using the free ImgBurn for Windows. Or using Disk Utility on OS X.
    http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=screenshots
Hook up the now finished USB external drive (or the Quickport) to the 13" MacBook and power up.
Once the cd is burned, stick it in the MacBook and reboot holding option and c, keep holding and you will have a option to load into RAM. DO so and the disk will spit back out.
In the screen on the left is a icon called MountDevices, doubleclick it twice to get two file transfer windows. Use the third window to mount your disks. Use the two file transfer windows to navigate and transfer your files off to the external drive using drag and drop methods.
Once that's completed, unmount the drives and use the lower left corner to exit. Reboot.
Take the external drive to the 15" MacBook Pro and verify your files are there.
3: Another method if the PartedMagic cd doesn't work, is to c boot off the MacBook install disks on the MacBook, use Disk Utility to format the external drive HFS+ Journaled and install OS X on it. It might be hold option bootable, but I'm not sure if older machines can boot from a USB, usually it's Firewire for them and you don't have Firewire.
Last would be to extract the hard drive from the computer if it's easily done through the battery port then stick it in the SATA Quickport port and hook it up to the 15" and transfer your files off.  If your having disk reading errors, then on the 15" MBP download and install DataRescue, it will read the files directly via the 1's and 0's of the files themselves. Data Rescue and other recovery software needs another drive to send data to, can't recover back to the problem drive.
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
Once the data is off, you can hold c, boot from the OSX install disk for the MacBook and from the utilities menu select Disk Utility and erase (with Security option Zero all data) and format the drive HFS+ Journaled and quit, reinstall OS X again. Or you can try using Disk Repair/Warrior and see if that works. (only works from another boot drive/disk). Or use the 15" to format the drive and stick it back into the 13"

  • Qosmio G30 - system problem after recovery procedure

I have Qosmio G30 - 148 which have Windows XP MCE, when trying to download some programs system crashed and make automatic restart.
I then used a RECOVERY CD to recover my all system and followed the instructions on the CD but when finished and rebooting the system a famous blue screen displayed tell me there's a problem in my system and windows must be restarted.
When reboot in safe mode there is a message tell me that the system is not fully installed. Please run setup again.
Could any body help me in that problem because it's a strange problem?
Note: I tried to install Windows XP from external CD but system did not know the hard disk.

    Hi Ahmed
    I would try to provide some useful hints;
First of all you can install the XP Pro on the Qosmio G30 this is no problem.
I assume you couldnt install the XP on the G30 because your have not installed the RAID driver firstly. As far as I know the XP would not recognize the HDD without the RAID driver.
The RAID driver installation is not very difficult. During the XP Setup procedure you have to press the F6 to include the driver from the external USB FDD drive.
If you dont have a USB diskette drive, then you could use a nLite to create a new XP CD with the RAID driver.
However despite everything Im not sure if this will help.
There could be really a hardware issue with your G30.

  • Qosmio F10 doesn't run after recovery procedure

Hi, I have just purchased the toshiba recovery dvd for my qosmio f10 laptop, i put the dvd in and it goes through the recovery process and completes 100% it then tells me to remove the dvd and then press CTRL ALT DELETE to restart the computer.
Upon doing so it gets to the screen were it tells me windows is starting then the screen goes blank and flickers a couple of times, then the laptop re-boots and keeps on doing this, I press the F8 key when it restarts to go into save mode, but when it goes into save mode it tells me that windows is not fully set and won't go any further and tells me that I need to run set up again.
I do not have a windows cd only the dvd from toshiba which should put my laptop back to factory settings.
Can aynone help me before I ring toshiba?
    thank you.

    Hi
Its not easy to say why it happens. Usually the Toshiba recovery CD should works properly and after whole recovering procedure the notebook should run without any problems.
You have suggested that you have ordered this recovery CD from the ASP.
Did you get the right recovery CD? Check the CD description.
The other possibility is that the unit has a hardware fault. In this case you should contact the Toshiba service. Sorry but this is all what I can suggest.

My hard-drive went bust (system wouldn't boot). Lenovo support left me with a new hard drive.  I used recovery CDs from lenovo to prime the new hard drive.  The installation left me with a system that has no wireless, display and other drivers. I go to device manager a see about 10 'Other devices' with unknown drivers.
Is this normal with the lenovo recovery CDs? (That i have to manually hunt all the drivers and install...)

    Yes, 100%
Do not touch / interrupt anything, except for placing  the disc requested in the drive, until you are asked to personally enter your name or accept the EULA.
The dowork box is working, you may see error messages - ignore them. In fact, when you see the dowork DOS box, it's time to go do something else for an hour; coffee, wine, beer, chess.. whatever. When you come back all should be AOK and you can enter the date / time zone, name etc. etc.
In other words, don't touch, don't panic, let it do it's thing.
