hi all ,
i am a new user of Hyperion Essbase , can anyone let me know for which certification i should start preparing either 7.X or 9.X ... my company is currently using essbase 7.X...
also i am little bit confused regarding the certification like essbase 7.x consultant , 9.3 developer,Planning 9.3 Administrator I & II ... which should i go for ... i am totally new to essbase and reading on it ...so i dont know the diffrence in all...my job is basically to understand essbase and start working on it for support if any problem arises in production schedule , i am an analyst at a finacial firm ..
any help will be appreciated

Hi Diwakar,
As i understand that your objective is to understand essbase and support the same , in case of a problem.
So, i dont think , you need to prepare for any certification,unless you wish to (as you are fairly new, it takes time ,to clear any Hyperion certification).
Essbase ,Planning, analyser...etc, these are all differnt applications of Hyperion software company,and they have different objectives to serve in an enterprise.
Essbase , in short,its an MOLAP tool.
I would recommend to read DBAG ( its a essbase database adminstrator guide),which explains very clearly the concepts of the tool.

Guidance needed please for architecting a scheduled application process (Worker Role vs. VM Role)

I'm close to putting all of the pieces together for an Azure Cloud Services solution that I want to build.
My goal is to build a .NET Library (or perhaps a Windows Service or even a Console Application) that will run once a day to execute dynamic queries against an Azure SQL DB.
There would be 1-x numbers of these query sets that will need to be run during the process, and after each query set an email will be sent out containing data from the query results (which shouldn't be terribly large or processor intensive) to an email
recipient specific to that data set. I plan on using an assigned Office 365 Mailbox as the sender account and email recipients would all be in the same Exchange organization.
I haven't decided on the emailing API yet, but it may require dependencies to be installed on Windows Server (e.g. the MAPI subsystem, AKA the Mail applet in Control Panel - so I can use Redemption which is a third-party replacement for the Outlook Object
Model that doesn't require Outlook to be installed) unless I go with Exchange Web Services or the Office 365 REST APIs.
So my main question is what's more appropriate, a VM or a Worker Role?
Since the processing should only take 5-10 minutes to complete, I'd like to minimize the uptime of the VM or Worker Role and be able to turn it on when the scheduled time occurs, and turn it off when
the processing is done.
I'm also trying to understand how to fit in either the Azure Scheduler Service or the Windows Task Scheduler in the OS to auto-run my .NET application and/or Worker Role/VM.
Any guidance would be appreciated!

There is currently no Option for automatically deploying an Azure Role, running it and then Shutting it down or Deleting it. That kind of functionality is possible using the
Windows Azure service Management API which is used by the Windows Azure PowerShell cmdlets.

Hi all,
I am a jewelry designer - have been for over 25 years (pencil to paper) and want expand my knowledge and learn Illustrator and Photoshop. I want to come out of the dark ages regarding HOW I design to become more efficient AND hopefully increase my marketability. I need a new computer so figured now was a perfect time to ask the experts in this field as to what system would be a good into place to start. Laptop preferred so I can learn wherever I am. I figure by the time I am doing well, it may be time to upgrade. Cost is a factor but I realize I am going to need to invest a little more on the front end to get the proper equipment.
While I am here, where is a good place to start regarding which illustrator to go with.

I am a designer for a larger Mfg company - not just someone who tinkers in her own studio (although that part is the best). Hand drawings can be scanned in and traced. It is a way to get a more accurate diamond weight and estimated metal weight to determine whether it is what is wanted BEFORE it is given to our CAD team. All of which are imperative to fit within certain price point targets. Details (scroll thickness, wall thickness, prong details, etc) are made much more clear for the CAD operator who may or may not have any design background. It will also allow me to start with one element and take that element to make a pendant. Then copy that exact element to lay out earrings (maybe flip for a left and right). Then copy further to lay our a bracelet....whatever it may be. Any tweaking that I want to do can be more automatic then re-drawing everything in order to compare. .
In addition, computers (illustration, Photoshop and certainly CAD - typically Rhino/Matrix in the US) are mainstream - unlike when I started. Not as many people hand draw so I am lucky in that regard. Certainly not as many people carve and cast wax as they once did to make a model. The CAD is loaded into a 3D printer, cast and voila - a master model.
I may or may not want to move to higher caliber companies as I continue to develop my career. Many of the larger companies I casually have my eye on ALL require Illustrator/Photoshop of their designer. Some actually say that CAD is encouraged but not necessary. Seems backwards to me but.....what do I know//
That's basically it in a nutshell. The schooling I am not really concerned about. I am looking for guidance on a suitable system that I will need at home (because I need a new computer anyway) that would allow me to have what I need eventually loading these systems on and learning what I hope to learn.

Simple game guidance needed

I could use a little guidance with a project I am currently doing at college. We have to use Java / NetBeans 4.0 to create a game where some targets appear and the player gains points by clicking on them. I have created the vast majority of the code and it works reasonably well so far.
The part I need help with is that I would like my targets to move around, probably using threads. Currently my targets are JButtons in a JPanel, but I cannot get them to move. I have tried using setLocation() and setBounds() to no avail. I have tried different layouts such as Null and Absolute, but that didn't make much difference.
So I have been playing around with the idea of using sprites, perhaps.
Does anybody have any suggestions to offer? I have been digging around looking for examples that I can work from that I could perhaps re-work for my own needs, but none of them seems to have what I need. Perhaps someone could mention classes / functions that I ought to be using?

I would use Graphics 2D rather than Swing.I'm no gaming expert but I'm not sure why you would use Graphics2D for this. Sure I guess if you are moving squares or circles around the screen you could do this. But what if you are using actual images, like an image of Duke or Bart Simpson? How would you draw these images using graphics?

Robocopy with Win 8.1 , guidance needed

In Win8.1Pro 64 bit used the command line:
Robocopy V: F: \ backup /MIR / R:0
The copied directories now take most of the space on an external Lacie HD F: . All the files and directories seem to be hidden though, neither
command line DOS evel nor Windows 8.1 sees anything on the Lacie.
The background , V: is the project file server of an architecture office and F: is a USB external
HD rotated weekly and stored elsewhere for backup. I used to do this with SyncToy on Win XP Pro from 2007 onward but just switched to Win 8.1 and noticed that SyncToy
is not supported . Found Robocopy after some googling .
Took me some trial end error to get the above command line running, had to figure out where to put empty spaces in the command line and where not to .
Would really appreciate if someone knowledgeable could help me write
a command line that mirrors the content of V: to F:\backup
without hiding it . Further , do I need a second
version of the command line to do subsequent runs in a way that only copies new and changed files
and folders to F: ? A full run takes in excess of seven hours.

Robocopy is self-documenting. Open a Command Prompt (cmd.exe) then type this command:
robocopy /? > robocopy.txt
You now need to play with the various switches to become familiar with this tool. It's not a scripting (=programming) problem.
Robocopy will sometimes hide the target folder(s). Open Windows Explorer, then change its settings so that hidden files become visible. Again this is not a scripting problem.

Switching iTunes from PC to Mac guidance needed

I'm new to the world of Apple computers with the exception of the iPhone. Just two weeks ago I purchased a new 27" iMac, and now I need to transfer my iTunes music and library from my old WinXP computer.
I plan to locate my music on an external 500GB drive connected via USB 2.0. The library I need to transfer from the WinXP computer currently contains 60,349 mp3 and podcast files in approximately 416GB of space. From what I have learned on my own so far has indicated that I need to format the external drive on the iMac since NTFS will not work properly. I can transfer the files via my LAN.
Almost 70% of my library is rare vinyl and tracks that I manually added the album artwork for. I need to know how to transfer this entire library from the PC to this iMAc so I maintain my album artwork, my playlists, my iPhone apps, and my podcast structure.
Any recommendations for this process, or should I call support to have them help me do this?

you cannot use the occi 10g with VC6++ !
When using precompiled C++ library, you have to use the same compiler than the one used to compile the C++ dll.
Oracle 10g provided occi dll to be used with VC7 and VC7.1
It's not possible to use them the VC6 C++ runtime.
That' why OCCI is alway a pain... Because Oracle only provides precompiled shared libs, you have to use supported compilers. and VC6 C++ runtime is not.
You have to upgrade your VC version or use the Windows SDK that includes free C++ compiler and C++ runtime.

Production guidance needed - Capturing Reflections for CG

At my work we're setting up a shoot of a handheld device. We'd like to capture the natural reflections to composite with the simulated screen. What's a good production technique for doing this? It seems like tracking markers taped to the device would be helpful for getting the track, but they'd interfere with the reflections. I'd like to see what the AE community recommends. Thanks!

You're going about this in the wrong way. You don't want to preserve the reflections, you probably don't need tracking markers, they only need to be painted out, and you should be shooting something to use as the reflections. Take a look at this How I Did It video from a really good AE artist that spends most of his time as a print guy. Richard Green did a magnificent job with this project and the video shows how he assembled the elements. All of the compositing and tracking for this project could be easily done using Mocha and After Effects. Only the airplane needed to be created in a 3D app. I've done about 30 projects in the last year similar to the one you're describing and Mocha did a perfect job without any tracking markers. You'll just need to block out the reflections which is very easy to do in Mocha.
Pay attention to how they created the reflection maps at the end of the video. and laid them into the production. It's about 1:30 into the film. In most cases you can fake this with much less than 360º photography. You'll get the idea.

How can i print an old Payment run without remittance advices going out by email.
The Print Job stays in spool for a limited time and cannot be accessed after that time.
Also when i have printer problems and the advices are not priniting, i have to pick the job up and print again, remittance advices go out again to vendors by email.

Hi,
The email triggering is happening from FIBF transaction code configuration. You must have selected process 00002040 for application and application area FI-FI with your Function Module (Standard is SAMPLE_PROCESS_00002040).
You should check the logic incorporate in your Function Module with ABAPer. Unless there is a restriction in the Function Module to stop sending emails if rerun, otherwise I do not think it is possible.
Please recheck the logic incorporate in the Function Module used.
If you remove the entries from FIBF, then it will not trigger any email, any number of times you can take spooled copies. But, you will loose the valid functionality like triggering of email.

MPP guidance needed

Hi all,
I have to write this application which is mapped over a Z*database for Products which are in one to many relation with another 5 entities and the 5th in 1 to many with another one. My goal is to design a UI that shows the whole picture: main screen divided in two vertically. In the left , a tree representing the products. The remaining of the screen divided horizontally. In the upper side a tabstrip with 4 panels(for the first four entities related to the product displayed), each containing an editable ALV Grid. The lower part divided again in two, vertically. In the left, another tree (for the 5th) whose 2nd level nodes may contain references to the 6th entity. In the right another two editable ALV Grids with data related to the selected note in the second tree.
I know it is a little confusing but the main idea is working with multiple controls in the same screen. Should I design all the controls in the main screen or should I use subscreens for each area described early. What should be the logic behind each subscreen?
How can I show all the related information of one selected product in the main tree?
Are ther any clear examples of these types of apps?
Please help me carry out this. Points rewarded for every helpful answer, thats a promise !

If you want to design ALV in the Subscreens then you need to use containers meaning ALV should be designed with methods.
Please look into the standard example may be you will get an idea to decide in which you way you need to design.

2. Utilites --->Examples --> control examples --> tree controls/table controls/subscreens.. you execute those .. may be you will get an idea.

Either do it by hand (plain Eclipse is enough) or you might try JBossTools or some Redhat Developer Studio or some other Eclipse extension (I think MyEclipse also has some support).
For facelets itself use the facelets user-documentation from the facelets website and the book "Facelets Essentials" from Bruno aranda and Zubin Wadia

There are a bunch of tricks for Psunami. You can use the image maps to displace the water and to lay the logo on the water. The displacement works fairly well to simulate a boat wake or a shoreline. The problem with using image maps as displacement is that they aren't flat. IOW, they follow the flow of the waves.
The key to making Psunami work well is to make sure that you pick Realistic or better for the Render mode, and when working with image maps to displace and texture, to keep the Coarse Grid and Fine Grid at small enough values to avoid funky artifacts. You'll also need to set the Ocean Detail to at the very least Video Detail. Don't expect a fast render.
I'd suggest that you set up your project with the logo as an image map set to Displace using the Alpha of your logo with the intensity set to 0. Then when you've got it raised out of the water enough, split the layer (Ctrl/Cmnd + D) and change the image map to Displace and Texture Below. Overlap the two copies by adjusting the out and in points so the wave action matches. This would fade in the logo color in like it's coming from below the water. As the logo rises farther out of the water split and overlap the layers and pick Texture Above or Texture On to achieve the look you want.
The Logo is going to bend just like the water, but the color will be there. If you need to morph the logo to a flat surface then you'll have to match the angle with another copy of the logo as a 3D layer then carefully transition between the two. With Psunami you'll never be able to make it look like the water is running off the logo. You can fake it fairly well.
If you need to have the water run off the surface my suggestion would be to do this in a 3D app. Blender (free open source) has some pretty good water effects and there are a bunch of tutorials. Depending on the realism you're trying to achieve you might want to composite some actual footage, some 3D, and some Psunami. This is definitely not a one click, one setting, one layer, two keyframe project.
Just for fun I set up a project using CS5. It took about 5 minutes because I did a lot of this kind of stuff a long time ago. You'll find the file HERE. I hope it helps. The resulting image looks like this:
As you can see the logo moving along with the water and it still looks submerged. It takes a bunch more work to make it look like it has move up and out of the water.

Guidance needed on quoting third party advice

I occasionally quote good advice on updating etc from articles on the MacFixit website, but have sometimes forgotten to mention the source - although I have never claimed personal authorship.
(MacFixit articles don't stay up for long, and can be worth preserving.)
Today a (new) poster has complained about me doing this and, as far as me not mentioning the source goes (which I will do in future), has a point.
Whilst I object to somebody actually calling me a thief, which seems a bit OTT, I would not like to break any rules here.

However I think we need to look at a longer view.
For instance it was the regular posters in iChat 2.x as it is now found that iChat would not work if Helvetica Font was not active. (See here from my original 2004 pages)

The example I have posted about has been worked on by several people in several forums where it is obvious that there has been some re-inventing of the wheel and also cross pollination but it would be difficult to pinpoint when and where.
