Guidance on the structuring of Projects in OWB
Dear all i am after some guidance / best practice for the use of projects within OWB and how best to structure to gain the best benifit within the warehouse environment.
We have decided to apply a staging area becuase we pull data from around eight systems, we had also thought about creating projects that link back to business fuctions to aid in segregating data. Having looked at this further we feel that this could cause duplication of effort and a more complicated structure. What i am after is a bit of the lessons learned from others in how to approach this and pit falls to avoid so would be grateful from any advice you may have in this area.

I would point out that this strategy may depend a bit on your project.
For example, we are on phase three of a loooooooong project that is slowly building up the enterprise warehouse as legacy (60s-era) Cobol systems are each being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Because of our need to balance ongoing development with support for what is deployed currently, we are creating each of our major releases as a separate project.
This allows us to more easily do things like major rework of our standard libraries of common public transformations, rework of conformed dimmensions, etc without worrying about having to possibly hold up new development to revert to old common code in order to perform ongoing maintenance. It also made it easier to segregate support teams from new development teams without having to put in place too onerous a management oversight system to ensure that no-one steps on anyone elses toes.
Then again, this project is definitely a special case from the security point of view....heck, most of the developers here will never even see live data due to security restrictions.

We have development projects that many developers can work on the project.
My question comes when you do recommend to create project.
Do we create one project for all layers?
Do we create oner project for each layer(schema)?
Do we create project for every development project?
or any other criteria to consider to help us decide when we create projects.

Export from Aperture builds file structure like projects/albums
Hi!
I use Aperture but also want to use iPhoto (for iLife-Integration - and for the superb presentation facitilities like slideshos with Ken Burns effect etc.).
I´d like to know whether there is a possibility to export from Aperture - perhaps via Automator-script - that the structure of projects, folders, albums, etc. is beeing transferred into the same structure but made of folders. The picture-files themselves should be jpgs.
Can something like that be realized in Automator? Or is there another possibility to get such a result?

SandroWhen you export versions via the export versions window you have the opportunity to specify the output folder structure for the images.
So for example you can select a subfolder structure using the images year/month/day or the project name or the image year/month etc.
You'll need to look through the options and see what settings will work for you. -

Freezing Projects
If you want to freeze the project MY_PROJECT and prevent access to all its contents,
the following restrictions will apply:
You cannot create, edit, or delete any objects under a frozen project.
You cannot invoke any of the services that modify objects within this frozen
project. For example, you cannot perform an MDL import, a source import, or a
snapshot restore in this project.
You can deploy, export, and execute runtime procedures within a frozen project.
You can validate and generate within a frozen project.
You cannot add or remove any objects from a frozen project to a snapshot.
The frozen project security policy is implemented within Warehouse Builder through
the following files. These files are located on your installation CD under:
samples/security_feature/frozenproject.
frozenProject.pkb: Holds the implementation of the security policy.
frozenProject.sql: Contains a table of the structure as shown in Table 192. The
administrator can freeze projects by inserting them into this table and setting the
isFrozen flag to 1.

What is the best team project / folder structure on TFS?
I am not sure how accurate is this article below from Microsoft but although most of the structure makes sense as shown in the schema, I dont understand the project structure.

So basically according to that structure, we have Main, Development and Releases.
Main - is the version to be uploaded on the webserver or published latest version of the app.
Development- is the version to do small changes and bug fixes.
Releases- Brunches for big changes, new features etc.
1- are these correct if anyone implemented it?
2- why under source there is myapp1 and again source, myapp1web etc.? myApp1 is the solution, i guess? but why would I add ClassLibrary under individual projects if it is shared? does it not make more sense to have another folder called "Libraries"
and pack them all shared libraries unde this folder?

The folder structure in a team project is depend on the developer, you can have your own structure if it works for you. The source folder in your second question is not the name of the folder, it's a description for the folder's usage(a

How to delete the structure created from Tx: EEWB ?

I have an issue at hand. I have added three components in the structure <b>BUS000___I</b> and the components are <b>ZZ1, ZZ2, ZZ3</b>, I was following the <b>EEWB</b> wizard and from there these three components were made, now I cannot delete these components directly from <b>SE11</b>. Because after adding these components the system is not allowing me to do so and is asking for the access code.
I am getting a syntax error in all the tx where <b>Business Partner</b> is used. No old versions for this structure was found in the system. The only structure that has come into this BP structure is <b>ZBSTC0000000000</b> followed by three data elements of this structure.
I know the <b>Project and the enhancement</b> that was created and I have tried deleting the enhancement from EEWB but when i try deleting it, it always fall into an intermediate stage where it leaves some entries and due to these left over entries these errors are coming.
Another imp thing is that the structure that i have reported is a newly created one I cannot find this anywhere else. looks like this structure was created after executing the EEWB transaction only.
Now when I try activating the enhancement again the <b>magic wand button</b> used to activate an enhancement and the <b>generate button</b> is also inactive in EEWB and now it is not getting activated, even after rt click enhancement then clicking change or by clicking on the edit-change button on the top tool bar. Do you think if I create another enhancement this button might get activated?
Please let me know how do I delete these components.

First i know that when i make any changes to the class library project i need to rebuild the project then to remove the Capture.dll from the TestScreenshot project and then to add again the updated Capture.dll

I dont know if it will work here, since I dont know the complete structure, but the base call must be public, if the derived class is public, so the base class is at least as accessible as the derived class.
Try make the base class public. (And maybe the base-class IDXHook of the base also...)
Or use a different approach and make only the properties public that are needed to be public by adding an extra class...
A structure could look like:(you need to create a class thats public in your dll and expose a property, and set this property in the internal class...)

Retrival of Control Key of Operation & Table underneeth the structure
Hi Experts,
Right now i'm working on PP and PM related stuff, I'm in the middle of the project and stucked down at a point in how to retrive the control key of operation that triggered the update in production order: opoerational view. (CO03).
Also i have a small question on how to findout the underlying table for a particular field(any field in a screen), when done F1 on that particular field the technical details says as table name but it is actuallya structure. So how should i find the table underneeth the structure where the particular data is being stored.
Or how should i retrieve the data if i couldn't figure out the table, is there some way that i can retrie the data using the structure.

This is a common problem.One of the best and easy way is use the transaction ST05 for trace.lemme explain in detail.
1.go to ST05 transaction
2.switch trace on
3.take your screen where the field resides
4.enter value in this field and other required field
5.then save the screen
6.go to ST05.
7.stop the trace
8.click on display trace
9.you will get a detailed log what all happend
10.search the log with 'update' or 'insert' word or search with the field.
11.you can find some table name.
12.check that table contains the record which you saved.
Sure this will help

1.go to transaction se84.
2.take ABAP dictionary
3.go to Fields
4.Give the field name in table field /structure field
if you are lucky you will get in this

PSE 9 Organizer Slide show can't find the slide show project files after moving from XP to Windows 7
A bad computer virus forced us to move all our files and programs from XP to Windows 7. The PSE Editor seems to be working properly, but the Organizer Slide Show can't find the project files. The structure of each of the 15 slide shows (blank slides) is there and any text I had added, but the pictures and music are missing. Our computer Tech is not too familiar with PSE and may not have the files in the right spot. Evidently XP and Windows 7 are organized a little differently and use different names. He still has all the PSE files from our old hard drive in a folder and probably just needs to know where to put them.

This is the problem - the iTunes ITL file from XP is using XP paths, which don't exist in Vista. Here are some directions that have worked for others:
- Copy your entire iTunes folder --- not just the iTunes Music folder but basically everything under "My Documents" - to external storage
- Copy those files to your "Music" folder on your Vista system. The end result should be that you have "Documents\Music\iTunes" on Vista, where you had "My Documents\My Music\iTunes" on XP
- Put a fresh install of iTunes on the Vista system.
- When you run iTunes for the first time, hold down the Shift key. If it asks you to select a library file, pick the one you just transferred over.
- The end result should be your library, including all ratings, play counts and play lists, sitting on the new system. -
Organisational structure of projects
Hi,
I observed that WBS elements of different company codes can be created under a project.
So I wanted to know if there is any organizational structure for projects?
Is it that a project can be used in multiple company codes? across company codes?
For Example:
Company code in Project is 1000
WBS Element X under above project assigned to company code 1000
WBS Element Y under above project assigned to company code 2000

You should be aware that there are organisational values which are
dependant on the plant in a network, and which are set when the network
is created.
Company code is one of these. If you were able to change the
plant at a later stage, an inconsistency between plant and such
organisation values would result. If you take into account that a
network at this stage could already carry costs etc, this would mean a
serious inconsistency (and rules out trying to update these
organisational values as well).
This is not allowed by the program logic.

because if they have change access they can very well proceed.
Moreover if you hide it will be hidden for all users from solar_project_admin...project tab

Building the ADF 11g project with ANT or MAVEN
I want to automate the build process of my project using ant or maven. Is there already some build scripts for ant / maven. which can compile and package it using the structure which JDeveloper follows?

You probably can. However, since I wrote the original article, I have changed my way of thinking on this; at the time I wrote the article, ojdeploy was not working - now it is. Installing JDev on a build machine takes a bit of space, but it's not a big deal; it doesn't require a license or anything. If I were doing this today, there is no way I would consider anything but ojdeploy for doing the build - it guarantees that what I set up in JDev is what gets built. The one thing that could make me change my mind is if and when JDeveloper gets fully-baked Maven support, including keeping a POM in synch with any libraries added to a project, but that's neither here today nor a certainty, since Oracle hasn't made any specific announcements that I am aware of about the direction of Maven support in JDev.
We did have a discussion about this on the [url http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology/browse_thread/thread/52f7aab00d201b4c/bec6e076a7c82520?lnk=gst&q=ojdeploy#bec6e076a7c82520]ADF Enterprise Methodology Group a while back, and I recall quite a discussion in the forums as well about ojdeploy vs ANT/Maven. I used to be more of a "purist" mindset (i.e. don't make me install an IDE on the build server), but if you like, don't think of it as an IDE in this function - it doesn't require a user to operate it, it's just another build tool that you'd install on the server. That build tool can be integrated with ANT using the ojdeploy tasks.

Failed to build the OLAP cubes (Project Server 2013)
We are receiving errors when attempting to build our OLAP cubes. We've attempted to install the 2008 version of the SQL server native client 2008 but still the error appears. Please advise.

NWDS - Canu00B4t see the Composite Application Project option.
Hi experts,
I ' ve recently update my NWDS and my CE 7.1 to SP06 , but i found that the Composite Application Project option in the NWDS has gone. I can´t build any composite app. project. Is there someone who can help me to fix this problem? could be any corrupted plug-in??

The problem could be corrupted PLUGINS or missing plugins due to incomplete installation.
Ideally the plugins folder at "Program Files\SAP\IDE\CE\eclipse\plugins" location would have the necessary files for creating a particular project. You can always check for the right plugin in case of the problem.
As mentioned copying the folder structure is one such work around solution. One more notable thing is that when you manually add a plugin, do make sure you restart the NWDS and refesh the track.

Can't write to mounted HDD after updates. (SOLVED)
Im using XFCE as my DE. I can no longer write to mounted HDD. Neither the 2nd HDD in my computer or my USB backup drive. I can't write to them as root either?! I can read them just fine, even drag files from them but nothing at all will write to them
