Guide file in Applications Folder

I am trying to clean out old software and such from my computer. There is a file in the Applications folder called Guide with a bunch of html items in it. What is this and can I delete it? So much came over from the old computer that I am sure is not necessary in Snow Leopard.
Thanks

Judy,
I think it would  be safe to get rid of it.

  • Delete locked file from /Applications folder

    Hi there
I used Clean My Mac to remove a file install - something I have done many times without any problems.
This time though the application file was left behind in the /Applications folder and I am unable to move it to the Trash because it is locked.
    I have tried the following
    sudo chflags nouchg /Applications/CrashPlan.app
This however does not resolve the issue and I am still unable to move the file to Trash - it does not remove the locked flag
Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions how to remove the file?

    Hi WIlliam
I tried what you said but I get an unexpected result...
    Johns-Mac-Pro:~ John$ sudo rm -r /Applications/CrashPlan.app
    Password:
    rm: /Applications/CrashPlan.app/Contents: Operation not permitted
    override rwxrwxr-x  root/admin schg for /Applications/CrashPlan.app?
I'm not sure how to respond to the question it is asking. I tried keying in Y but the response was
    override rwxrwxr-x  root/admin schg for /Applications/CrashPlan.app? y
    rm: /Applications/CrashPlan.app: Operation not permitted
    Johns-Mac-Pro:~ John$

  • Strange file in Applications folder, placeholder.txt

Saw this file today, placeholder.txt, this file wasn't here before, it is in my Applications folder and on the dock as well, with contents (copy pasted):
Placeholder to make sure directory gets created during a synch
File creation date January 16, 2010 7:43 AM
I don't have any backups or even a Mac back then. Was this added during 10.7.2, do you have this too? I'm just going to delete it.

It's not in 10.7.2 only, I have 10.6.8, and it's there too. If you delete it, it reappears. Somepeople suggest it's from adobe digital editions.

  • Changing multiple file permissions - Applications folder

After using migration assistant in Snow Leopard and then changing the username of my primary user, all third party apps in my Applications folder require me to enter the admin password when moving, updating with Sparkle, etc. They don't seem to have a primary owner.
I saw the steps outlined here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778969 for changing permissions on multiple files but I'm wary of doing this on the Applications folder.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? I went through files individually and i'm still getting messed up permissions all over the place. Thanks!

DO NOT use "apply to enclosed items" on the main Applications folder! Do not use it on any system created folders. they often have hidden ACLs and using this button would propagate the ACLs to everything inside. this is the case for the main Applications folder. there is no easy way to do what you want because Apple changed the permissions structure in Snow leopard and the default applications no longer have read+write access by admin users by default. I would suggest you don't mess with permissions on Applications. if you ever need to update a 3rd party application simply delete the existing copy in /Applications and put the new one in. it will have correct permissions.

  • Help, moved folders & files to Applications folder accidentally!

    Hi guys,
Need help here. Accidentally moved some non-app (music) files to the Applications folder, thinking it was an iTunes window :s
Embarrassing, I know. But now each time I try to drag them back into where they were, they end up showing as aliases to the files in their initial location, with the accidentally-copied ones still in the Applications folder!
What can I do to restore their original location? Just FYI - Cmd + Z doesn't work, nor does Undo (it's, actually, unavailable). Is there anything I can do, or am I basically stuck with a dozen music folders inbetween my apps, unless I decide to delete and redownload them? (Oh yeah, I can't move them anywhere except Trashing them).
    Many thanks!
    Best,
    Dynamitri

OK, well, I found a way around this - archived the folders/files within the Applications folder, and then unpacked the archive to the initial location of the files, where they were before I moved them by accident. Did the job.
Still, would be good to know if there is any other way to do this (for future reference, just as this post is). Thank you!

  • No java file in application folder

After most recent update of Java, the Java does not work.  Looked for Preference file in application file and there is not one.  What do I do?

Applications > Utilities > java Preferences.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 Gives you an idea what the update did if it was 2012-006
However, I understood there was a later one than that which removed Java SE6 altogether and provided a redirect to Oracle's website to download the latest Java 7 version.
Can't find that one on Support Downloads now?

  • Mavericks doesn't ask for password when copying files into applications folder (e.g. installing plugins for After Effects)

For example, when i was copied a plugin for after effects into the plugins folder, finder asked me for my password and now it doesn't. I can just copy it directly without any authentication.

Do you have Service Pack 1 for Windows 7? It's listed in the system requirements for CC 2014. If you don't have SP1, AE won't run.
That GPU sniffer error message is usually what happens. This should be a simple fix! Of course, you should always take the normal precautions when updating an OS, but still...

  • Applications folder crashes!

When clicking Applications Folder in finder, finder will crash. I can't open Applications folders by any means.
I tried to use Terminal to list all the files in Applications folder (-ls), but nothing showed up in Terminal.
All the applications are in my dock and works normally.
I tried to verify&repair disk permissions, the Disk Utility repaired some error but the issue is still there.
I tried to use another user account to open the Application folder but the situation is the same.
Everythind except that folder is good. This issue is driving me crazy... Any one have any ideas?
    Thank you!

Boot from your OS installer disk (Snow Leopard) and run Repair Disk from Disk Utility.

  • Access the application folder by HTTP

    Hi,
I did an application here to record the user's webcam and store an .FLV at my applications folder. That's ok.
But I want to retrive this .FLV using HTTP mode, to load the .FLV progressively, not by streaming. Got it?
For example, if I record a user webcam called "myWebcam":
    myVideoClass.load("http://localhost/applications/my_app/myWe bcam.flv");
Using http (progressively), not rtmpt (streaming).
There is some way to do that? Or to move the file from applications folder to webroot?
Thanks and sorry for my english!

I think at the very least you'd need and http server running on your machine to do this, and also probably to copy the flv into a path the server can get to.

  • Copy file from mounted DMG to the Applications folder?

I'm wanting to copy file (application) from a mounted DMG to the Applications folder. Something like:
    tell application "Finder"
    try
    copy "Volumes:Dropbox Installer:Dropbox.app" to folder "Volumes:Macintosh HD:Applications"
    end try
    end tell
    (But that doesn't work).
Preferably overwriting the existing application in that folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    tell application "Finder"
duplicate file "Volumes:S001TEST:S001-S001c-TEST.zip" to folder "Volumes:Macintosh HD:Applications" with replacing
    end tell
I tried this principle in Applescript (Mavericks) and received error...
Finder got an error: Can’t set folder "Volumes:Macintosh HD:Applications" to file "Volumes:S001TEST:S001-S001c-TEST.zip".
"001TEST" is a disk image with filename of "S001TEST.dmg"
Any ideas why this won't work?

  • Hi when i open my application folder, all the application is shown in trash folder. when i click the application it says this app is in trash first move it out. and when i try to open through finder go it says this file doesn't exist. can some1 plz help?

hi when i open my application folder, all the application is shown in trash folder. when i click the application it says this app is in trash first move it out. and when i try to open through finder> go it says this file doesn't exist. can some1 plz help? how can i put all my application through application folder?

Something really odd is going on. In your first screen shot, I noticed that the Applications folder does not have the proper icon displayed in the side bar. Also, in the title bar it lists it as Applications 08-59-29-909.
Not sure where it's picking up that odd name, unless it's because it's still truly within the Trash folder.
Try this. In the Finder > Preferences > General > turn on "Always open folders in a new window". (I have a feeling you have the default setting with this off).
Now, in Finder > Go > move down and open the Applications Folder from there. Now open the folder where you see all your applications that you show in your screen shot, select all, and move them to this true appliactions folder.
This is what you should properly seeing (but with different apps listed):
See how the Applications folder has the icon of the letter A shaped with a pencil, ruler & pen.

  • OPEN DATA SET to write files in application server folder - some of the files are missing

    Hi,
I'm using OPEN DATASET statement in batch job to write the files in application server. what i'm experiencing is when i schedule the batch job all the files are not writing into the folder.
If i run the report again to write the missed files, the files are writing into the application server folder.
after opening the dataset, i'm closing it. do we need to give any delay between creation of the files? or until the first write operation is done, 2nd one can't start ..how can we achieve this.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Thanks,
    Adi.

    Hello Bathineni,
Are you using the sy-subrc check after the OPEN DATASET statement.
If not use a sy-subrc check and transfer the contents to file only when the OPEN DATASET returns value sy-subrc = 0.
if sy-subrc is 8 repeat the same loop say for 3 attempts until the OPEN DATASET becomes 0.
DO 3 TIMES. <---- put any number of attempts as you need
    OPEN DATASET.
    IF sy-subrc = 0.
       TRANSFER contents to file.
       EXIT.
    ENDIF.
    ENDDO.
    CLOSE DATASET.

  • I restarted my mac and many apps and files disappeared. It's like it booted to a state several months ago. My CS 5 apps are not in the dock or applications folder. Has this ever happened before and what can I do?

It's like it booted to a state it was in several months ago. My CS 5 apps are not in the dock or applications folder. Has this ever happened before and what can I do?
The files on my desktop are not the ones that were there when I shut down. It's like it's gone back in time.
My display's power supply got fried (I think) in a power outage so I bought a new one. However, every time I restart the display usually stays black. I have found I need to keep rebooting until it kicks in and starts working. I unplug everything, wait a while (a few minutes to overnight) and try booting again.
This last time the display finally came on but I'm faced with this problem. I used to use time machine, but I deleted everything and disabled it a couple months ago or more so I'm at aloss as to why the mac is booting into the state it was in sevearl months ago.
What could I have done to cause this? Has this ever happened to anyone else and is there a solution?
Note: I did a search for a file I knew was created today. I found it and it showed that it was a file I had saved on the desktop this morning--even though that file's icon is not appearing on the desktop now.
I did a search for photoshop and saw my CS5 version listed.
However, I did a couple more searches and these files no longer appear in the search. I don't know if they're there or not. This is bizarre!
    I'm on a Mac Pro, 10.6.2.

Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
    I'm back to normal again.

  • How to stream flv files from a diffferent directory outside the applications folder

    Hi everyone,
I want to stream the flv files from a different location
stored in the hard disk, which is outside the applications folder
in the FMS installation root directory. Does anyone know how to do
    it?
    Regards,
    Diptanu

VOD changes won't help him, he said outside the applications
folder. According to adobe any new vod folders must be in the
applications folder, hence virtually worthless for most purposes. A
better question may be, how do you specify a folder on a different
local hard drive. I wish adobe wouldn't make it so complicated, it
should be a really simple matter.
