[Guide] How to install windows 8 on U410 IdeaPad SSD

Hi All,
Please find below description of how i got windows 8 pro installed on my ideapad u410 SSD.
1. Get windows Pro - I just got the upgrade from Microsoft it is available in several places
2. Call MS customer support to get the ISO image for windows - need to get to level 2 support engineer, they can either
shipping you a DVD for free and\or log-in and remotely downloading the image by generating a new product key
3. Get USB with GParted installed, boot into it and delete all the partitions. Format the SSD as NTFS with default values
4. Get the windows ISO on a bootable USB
4. Place a PID.txt file in usb /sources folder, format should be as Here
5. In Bios change EFI boot to legacy
6. Boot from USB and select the SSD partition>new> create a size that is a little smaller but > 25G
7. Done

you will need first to have this upgaraded version from microsoft,
For example a CD , Follow the below steps to boot from CD
1- Switch on the machine and Insert the CD
2- Once you switch on the machine press F12 to boot from CD then you will go to the installation process

How to: Install Windows XP on Lenovo IdeaPad N580

Hi and thank you for reading my post.
Due to compatability issues with software that I need to install on the IdeaPad, I need to utilize the Windows XP operating system rather than Windows 7 or 8. The N580 comes with 8. Is there a step by step "how to" document to ... wipe clean, re-partition, and load XP while also re-installing the specific software associated with the N580 hardware?
On a side note, the software being used is MS Foxpro 2.6 as well as a program editor on the DOS platform. Yep... trying to get software of the early 90's to work on new hardware...
Any help that can be provided is hugely appreciated.

OK, use Windows 8 in Bootcamp. Be aware that there are no Bootcamp drivers for Windows 8 yet. So you may experiance not only delays but display problems, freezing, crashes and other problems.

I just got a ZBook 14 which was preinstalled with Windows 7. I want to use Windows 8.1 Pro which was alsp delivered on DVDs in the packages. However, this machine does not come with an optical drive. How can I install Windows 8.1 on this machine?

Excuse me for being blunt but that is simply b***hit. Windows 8.1 comes delivered with the machine which is brand new and any reasonably new PC is fully capable of running Windows 8.x. The question was just how I was supposed to load it onto the machine as it lacks an optical drive. I suggest you do not give advice unless you know what you are talking about.
For all others thatwant to the same thing.
1. Make a copy of the Windows 8.1 DVD that comes shipped with the machine. See the following guide http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed-100-working-guide/
2. Set Boot mode in BIOS to UEFI instead of legacy BIOS.
3. Boot from the USB stick and install Windows 8.1, wipe all existing partitions. Please note that this will effectively remove any possibility to revert to Windows 7 by using the recovery partition but since Windows 7 DVDs are also delivered you can use the same procedure as above to install that. I guess that boot mode in this case should be set to legacy instead of UEFI.
Of course, you do the above at your own risk but it has worked successfully for me. You could copy the content of the Application and Driver Recovert DVD for Windows 8.1 to a USB stick as well and install that afterwards.

How to install Windows 7 from a USB drive!

This is even easier than installing Windows XP from a USB drive, and will also reduce the time taken to install Windows 7, it took me about 15 minutes!
The advice in the guide is also applicable to installing Vista.
You need basically:
a USB flash drive at least 4GB in size
a Windows 7 DVD
To sum up:
Format your USB drive, with the NTFS filesystem
Open Command Prompt as an administrator, and run the Bootsect.exe program off the Windows 7 CD to make the USB drive bootable
Copy the contents of the Windows 7 DVD to the USB drive
Restart your PC, press F11 (or whichever key it is) to access the Boot menu, and select your USB drive to boot from

Why don't you ask on a Windows forum about how to install Windows on an external drive? I think Windows 8 has a Windows to Go version. Boot Camp does not support installing Windows on an external drive. You could do this using a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
But running Windows from an external drive will be extremely slow compared to an internal installation. I doubt you'll be happy with game performance.

Can anyone plz tell me about how to install windows on W2100z.I tried in lot of ways but to no avail.First of all i tried win xp 32 and 64 bit cds but no success.Then i created the winxp 64 cd by runing the xp_reburn script from supplement cd 2.4 but same problem of "Setup didnot find any harddrives attached to your system" appears.Then i attached a floppy drive and tried floppy disk containing drivers of Scsi from supplement cd and after pressing F6 i provided the floppy,it shows the menu containing four driver names ,i tried each one of them but same old problem comes later in the setup.
Can anyone help me in this regard ?

hi,
I was wondering if anyone has an easy guide on how to install windows on a mac. I purchased a external hard drive to make it easier but still absolutely no clue on how to do this. At college some software isn't compatible with mac so i need to install windows aswel. Any help would be great as not very good with this at all and bootcam

An external drive is not necessary. There are several options.
One is Parallels
Second is VMware
Third. Partition the hard drive using Boot Camp
Boot Camp Assistant is pre installed on your Mac in your Applications > Utilities folder.
If you use Boot Camp, you will need to purchase a Windows install disc.

Yours is one of the moderate models and you will find links to all the drivers you need. My own take on this is you are going in the wrong direction. Instead of back to XP you should go forward to Windows 7, but XP can be made to work on that machine. Good luck and feel free to post back with any more questions.

Thousands have successfully tried it themselves and installed Windows on a Macbook Air. Perhaps if you provided some details about what you did and what errors you observed we could help you. The Boot Camp instaructions, if followed, will produce a successful install.

To install Windows you will need to change the boot order.
Now boot to your Windows disk or USB key and follow the prompts.
