Guide Layers

I was just in the PS feature request forum and someone once again asked for improved guides. My idea was to create a special guide layer that would work like this. When the user drags a guide onto the art board a new, special guide layer is created. I can add new guides to this layer as before but I can ONLY add guides to this layer. Drawing a shape onto the layer would automatically convert it to a guide. Copying complex artwork or shapes with a fill would generate an error dialog chastising you for trying to attempt such a stupid feat. New guide layers could be created through a button along the bottom of the layers palette or simply by dragging a new guide onto any layer other then a guide layer. Guide layers could be colored and labeled (a special icon would denote this as a guide layer) individually so users could sort and organize them better. There could even be a hide behind option in the guide layer properties box which would allow guides to be hidden behind all artwork above them in the layer stack. This would be turned off by default and guides would function as they do currently. I know this can be sort of done by creating a new layer and moving guides onto that but I like the idea that AI will help me create these layers making it impossible to wind up having half of my guides on a layer with shapes and having to extract them carefully and put them on their own layer.

> This simplifies the process...
Simpler than one shortcut?
>... and makes it impossible to have guides "hidden" on a layer with other content.
Which I don't see as a problem. Lots of content can be hidden on any layer. It's a lot of functionality to forfeit.
> Turn off thumbnails and you got your real estate back.
Oh yeah. Wish I could make that a default. But then you can't drag from a child layer to a parent layer (yet another goddam bug).

  • How to stop flash pro cs6 exporting guide layers

Ive recently started using Flash cs6 having been using Flash 8 for a long time. When I export an image or image sequence from flash, it is exporting images with guide layers included, this is something which flash 8 never did and i can't get used to it and keep exporting long sequences with guide layers which is quite annoying. Is there a way I can change settings or something so this doesn't happen. any help appreciated

yeah i get the idea of guide layers and how useful they are. just dont  want all my rough layers visible when i export an image from flash.. my point being you never had to hide guide layers before publishing on old versions of flash which i think makes more sense.. why would you ever want to see a guide layer on a published image?? anyway, i discovered this only happens when using actionscript 3.0 but not 2.0 so, ive gone back to 2.0

  • Hidden Layers vs Guide Layers

I often have things on a layer that I don't want to see while
I'm working on another layer and frequently testing and tweaking
and I used to just have those hidden in the timeline and they would
publish. And if I didn't want a layer to publish, I'd make it a
guide. In CS3 it seems that those hidden layers won't publish
(though at times I've had them publish for me in certain files, but
    I don't know why).
Is there a setting I can choose to make hidden fields publish
like they did prior to CS3?

In the publish settings you can select "export hidden layers"
,,, I catch myself doing the same thing you are used to...lol. Id
hide layers and forget that I selected not to export hidden layers
    and think I broke something.

  • How do you turn guides in layers off?

Hi, I am haveing the same problem from a long time ago which I posted that problem here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1276634?start=0&tstart=0
But now I created a new Puppet and am haveing the same problem again, I was wondering on how you turned off the guides in the layers as was the correct answer  said by Asymetrical on that thread above because when I try to do that with my puppet it didnt work. Asymetrical is probably doing it a different way than I am. If you could please send me detaled instructions on how he did this that would be fantastic.
I greatly apreashiate all the help, Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen the original fla in the post you mentioned here, but looking at the description it seems the problem was that some of the layers, which were supposed to be normal layers, were marked as guide layers.
If you have a similar issue then you can right click on any such guide layer, and uncheck "Guide" from the context menu to turn the guide layer off. Not sure if this is the problem with your content also though, as you might have tried it already I guess. You can probably share some more details about the problem content.

  • Guide Layer

I have a layer used only for audio. For testing purposes, I
wanted to speed up publishing by omitting the audio layer. I simply
turned it into a guide layer. Flash isn't suppose to export content
on guide layers, but yet Flash is still publishes the audio layer.
Why isn't audio being excluded from my published file?

Are you using CS3? If so simply turn off the visibility of
the layer. This is a new CS3 feature
    (located in Publish settings).
No longer do we have to convert layers to Guide layers to
    omit them from publish.

  • 3D layers not rendering

Hello - I've had some issues getting 3D layers to render. I've tried rendering out of after effects directly, used the Media Encoder, and now I'ts giving me issues in my comp view. I go to render and it would only 'render' the 2D layers. I was able to fix it before by pre-comping the 3D part. I had the issue again so I pre-comped the whole comp I was in so now I'm in just a 2D comp, referencing a 3D comp. Should work, right? None of the 3D stuff shows up again! Not even rendering this time, just trying to see it in viewport. Any thoughts?
Fast previews are off, 64GB of RAM, Quadro k4000, 3 montors, 6GB free space, Dual Xeon processors.

Are you using the ray-traced renderer or the standard renderer?
Are your layers set as guide layers?
Are you looking through the Active Camera in the composition that has the 3d layers?
Have you set any of the comps to collapse transformations/continuously rasterize?
Also, what exact version number of AE are you using (down to the last decimal point)?

  • Why aren't my text layers rendering? Text only renders in RAM Preview

I have a moderately complex 2D composition in AE 2014, using several Adobe Illustrator files and nested compositions that render fine.
I can also preview the composition perfectly in RAM preview (about 25 seconds of it anyway).
The problem starts when I try to add composition to the render queue. Everything except the text layers render fine, but the type is missing (these are native AE text layers, not imported type).
I've had no success searching the Adobe and Creative Cow user groups. All layers are visible with "eyeballs" turned on, and I'm not using any 3D settings.
Settings for rendering are Best Settings, Lossless, but I've played with various settings and get the same results.
I am on an older MacBook Pro, running OS 10.7.5
    Please help, thanks.

  • How to include text as HTML elements (see DOMElement)

I am working with Flash PRO CC v. 14.0.  to convert my Flash website to HTML5 / javascript
I have converted a file to the HTML5 Canvas
I am very happy that the new Flash Pro has the feature to convert to HTML5 canvas
    HOWEVER:
In my original .FLA file project I use only one font: Copperplate Bold.  I use several sizes of that font within the project / scene
In the original file for all text I use static text, Letter spacing, AntiAlias, AutoKern and single line (Linetype)
    - none of which the HTML5 canvas seem to allow / support?
How do I maintain the FONT look that I have chosen in my original FLASH project, after I convert to HTML5 canvas?
Is there a way in the HTML canvas to maintain the FONT look that I want?
HTML5 canvas will not allow Font embedding
The device font destroys the LOOK of my Copperplate Bold font.
How do I include text as HTML elements (see DOMElements)?
WARNINGS generated when I convert the original file into an HTML Canvas:
Warnings generated while copying/importing in 140827a HTML test.fla:
    * AntiAlias is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to DeviceFonts in an instance of Text.
    * AutoKern is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been removed in an instance of Text.
    * Frame Scripts have been commented
    * LetterSpacing is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to 0.0 in an instance of Text.
    * LineType is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to MultiLineNoWrap in an instance of Text.
    * Some artwork contains Hairline stroke, which is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Solid.
    * StaticText is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to DynamicText in an instance of Text.
    New HTML Canvas Document created.
NOTE:  So far the only way I have been able to maintain the font look is to convert the fonts to .png files
This is painstaking work that I would like to avoid.
Even then I still get a WARNING when I test my scene - (no doubt because I left the original FONT text  in guide layers)
    After conversion ON TEST SCENE:
    WARNINGS:
Frame numbers in EaselJS start at 0 instead of 1. For example, this affects gotoAndStop and gotoAndPlay calls. (18)
Only circular (not oval) radial gradients are supported. (85)
Text support is limited. It is generally recommended to include text as HTML elements (see DOMElement). (6)
Color effects are published as a filter and subject to the same limitations. (4)
Filters are very expensive and are not updated once applied. Cache as bitmap is automatically enabled when a filter is applied. This can prevent animations from updating. (2)
Content with both Bitmaps and Buttons may generate local security errors in some browsers if run from the local file system.
HOW CAN I MAINTAIN the FONT LOOK that I have chosen for my project?
How do I include text as HTML elements (see DOMElements)?
    ANY HELP will be appreciated
A good, in depth, tutorial on the subject (FONTS) would be a BIG help to many using the convert to HTML5 canvas features.

    GOOGLE HAS
    https://www.google.com/fonts
choose a font from above site

google generates instructions on how to embed that font
    Montserrat
    3. Add this code to your website:
    <link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Montserrat:400,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
    4. Integrate the fonts into your CSS:
The Google Fonts API will generate the necessary browser-specific CSS to use the fonts. All you need to do is add the font name to your CSS styles. For example:
    font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Ubuntu', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Montserrat Alternates', sans-serif;
    font-family: 'Montserrat', sans-serif;

  • A simple selection of objects behind and much more

Selecting things under a different object in the Illustartor is sometimes very annoying.
For proper selection of objects was invented several tools. Please use them alternately depending on the situation.
    - outline mode
    - preferences = object selections by patch only
    - menu Lock = lock selection, All artwork above other layers
    + isloate mode
    + smart guides
+ layers (pity that to this day can not enable the option automatically locates the object)
But still the selection of one object over time requires a lot of time and clicking. Especially if they are just above or below.
The Blender is such a great option. According to me, works well and is easy to use. You can work on hundreds of superimposed objects, and continues to act quickly. it is not perfect but I would very I would see in Illustrtaor. However, this requires a better reflection of the current use of the objects in Illustrator than it is today.
    New Method of Selection:
    1. Click on an object once and you select an object on top,
    2. for any re-clicking LBM selects an object underneath. Simple, fast and understandable.
+. By clicking and selecting objects at the same time watching a dream in which Appearance palette name and see what properties of the selected object.
+. Adding to the selection or subtraction:
             - When I have selected the correct object can click on the layer name
              - Layer palette displays a view of all layers
              - New: Automatically expanding palette view to show the structure of the objectindicated in the structure of the layers and stack.
              - Now I can easily add or subtract to the selection of other objects or select just another object.
Important to work with this method to modify the interface illustartor.
    1. Palette Appearance must expand and show more things. For example, as in this description:
        http://forums.adobe.com/message/3024803#3024803
    2. This rapid work with objects should also improve the Illustrator interface and make it more useful.
Quick change opportunity to give a name or a group or object.
Even now it is missing this opportunity. Even now it is missing this opportunity. For example, click and change the name in these views:
One Clik and change name of layers or object or group or patch...
Note. If it can be easily and quickly rename objects. RBM is an option on the menu will show that the category of the popup list of objects under the cursor.
It would be enough to click on the object and would be selected. Super for me!
    3. New. The new functionality.
         - Appearance palette retains the settings of the object was last selected. Just as color palette ikon "Out of... Click to correct".
The appearance palette, she could be named: "Last appearance use. Click to Add or Click+Alt to show".
         - This allows me to select a different object, and quickly give it the properties of the previous one.
         - Or click on the icon of the previous appearance when they are showing up and I choose only the one I want to use the new facility, eg by drag & drop the icon of the appearance of the currently selected object. — Something like a story last selected object appearance to choose to use the newfacility.
Or better. Drop-down list to the history of recently used names of objects.
The choice would result in giving the highlighted current object stored Apperance.Alt + Click does not change the selected object apperance just simply list Apperance with the possibility of drag and drop individual features in the current Apperance select object.
Appearance to such a list could choose to display in the view layers palette by clicking on the icon Apperance.
Of course, the idea presented is not conclusive, show just the way we work withillustartor expect from a modern program.
After the present work in Illustartorze are really very complex and currentlydevotes much time on it just to check something.
Currently Illustartor reminds me of a Christmas tree with different ideas than theprofessional tool for my daily earning.
I spend my time like other colleagues on this forum because I support the idea, and Adobe Illustrator.
I hope someone appreciates it. I've been looking around for an idea for anotherprogram to work with vectors.

  • Exporting Animated logo from AE cs6 into Premiere cs6

I have an animated logo that I would like to import into premiere cs6. When I exported it into premiere, it only imported the picture, not the background and animation along with the picture. What can I do export the logo in its entirety?

If your export does not show everything in your composition then you are looking at the wrong view in AE or you have set elements in your composition as guide layers. The only thing exported is the Active Camera view. There are also many ways to bring an AE animation into Premiere Pro. You can add the .aep to PPro and load the comp into the sequence, You can use Dynamic Link from inside the sequence to replace footage, or you can render to any one of about 10,000 different formats for use in PPro, only a very few of which are suitable for a production workflow. You have given us nothing to go on to solve your problem. If checking for guide layers and making sure that you created your comp using the Active camera view does not solve your problem then we need to know everything that is going on in your comp and exactly what your workflow is.

When a certain machine fails it has to be rebooted before it will work again.  And other machines will render the job just fine.  All machines are configured the same way.
What seems to be the problem based on this error is that there is a "comma" being put in the path and the end of the string.  Here is the detailed data from the machine when it errors.  This error seems to happen randomly on multiple machines.

  • Need help identifying icons!

Hello, i downloaded a template at work for a commercial spot.  I pretty much understand how the project was made and what needs to  be done with it except a few icons i dont understand.  Can anyone tell me what these icons mean in this precomp of text please?
Just having difficulty understanding the different icons from 1 down to 5.  This is what the comp window looks like.
Whoever can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.  The project is finished and the commercial runs fine, but im trying to learn from this template and make my own.  I know those are maybe a few mask icons and such, but not really sure.  so if anyone can explain what 1 through 5 are, that'd be great.

A solid color layer is just that, a layer with a solid color applied. It has no content except the color unless you add a plug-in to render something on the layer.
A text layer is just that, a layer of text
A track Matte is a layer that provides transparency information to the layer directly below it
A guide layer is a layer that can contain anything from footage to graphics that is used for a guide when placing other elements. Guide layers do not render.
The very top layer in your project does not appear to be doing anything It is turned off.
The text layer is also turned off.
The second revealer matte layer is set to provide alpha transparency to the layer below but it is also visible. Again, I don't know what it's doing because I can't see effects applied or other info about your comp. If you want to see what's really going on select all layers and press the U key twice. You'll also need to include the comp window in the screenshot.
The stripe layer is a blue solid with an effect applied that is taking some alpha information from the revealer matte layer.
I'm not sure what the guide layer is showing. You can find out by turning it on and off.
Layers are stacked up exactly the same way they are in Photoshop or when making a collage with a pair of scissors and a bunch of photos or colored paper. Put the background on the bottom then add your elements as required to make your composition.
This is more than basic stuff. Please follow Todd's suggestion and read the getting started materials and feel free to type those terms in AE;'s Search Help field at the top right corner of the App. You'll find lots of info. You can't effectively learn AE by just poking around in it unless you are already very familiar with compositing, layering, mattes, blend modes, and the like. AE is a program that can perform any type of composite or motion graphics you have ever seen in a movie if you have  the right source material and understand how compositing works. Because it's so powerful and versatile you can't effectively just jump in and figure things out without some serious study. You'll be hopelessly lost.

  • Font Agent Pro 4.0.3 font library doesn't show up in Fireworks CS4

My extensive Font Age Pro 4.0.3 library of fonts does not show up in Fireworks CS4. Does anyone know why? The only fonts
Fireworks sees are those controlled by Font Manager. I do not recall this problem with Tiger and Fireworks CS3.
Photoshop CS4 has no problem (yes there is an Auto-Activation Plug-in for Font Agent Pro 4), however did not have a problem not having it when was
    running CS3 Fireworks.
    Fireworks Version: 10.0.3.11
    Mac OS X: 10.5.8 (Leopard)
    Font Agent Pro: 4.0.3
    Thanks
    Derek

I changed it all to 3D and moved a few of them around closer - looked at it from top, right, left, back.. yea, all of the different views and couldn't see anything wrong.
Actually, the need to use 3D isn't very apparent in this comp.  I wouldn't use 3D unless there was a reason to do so.

Indeed there is!  You've mistakenly made guide layers, not text layers.  Here's a description of them:
