Guidelines for explicit language

Hi,
I have a podcast which involves me and some friends talking about geek culture. We have it listed as "clean" and bleep out the very occasional swear word that might slip out. I'm editing our latest episode and someone refers to something as "bloody terrible". Is "bloody" considered an explicit word and should therefore be bleeped or is it mild enough to be okay?
I don't want to leave it in and get rejected but, while I'm happy to bleep it if need be, but my concern is that doing so it may lead the listeners to think that the word used was far worse than "bloody"!
Any advice based on previous experience would be gratefully received.
Thanks.

Apple don't provide a list of unacceptable words, but basically they are referring to the sexually-related 'four-letter words' which are also censored in this forum. I don't think you need to worry about 'bloody' - this used to be regarded as a bad word years ago but nowadays it's in fairly common use and I don't think most people would find it offensive (and the forum software hasn't censored it).

• Guidelines for when to use SE vs. EE

Are there any guidelines for when to use Standard Edition and when to use Enterprise Edition? Any limits on Standard edition as far as transactions/sec or number of users or size of database? Other than a list features that are not included in SE are there any other limitiations or reasons I should not go with SE over EE?

Have you checked out www.javaworld.com. They usually have very good and in-depth articles. IMHO, it all depends on the sort of use your library is intended for. If its used extensively by native code, use C++ with a Java wrapper. It its the other way around, implement it in Java and use a JNI interface for native code. I would really consider this carefully before implementing stuff in C++ that is used from Java. First of all, Java is after all much simpler than C++, its a more elgant OO-language and you have the platform neutrality. On the other hand, C++ has its sides. I dont use JNI unless its absolutely neccessary, in situations like using legacy code.
These are just a few of my thoughts, hope it gives you some hints.

In need of help figuring this phone stuff out! I am trying to get all the apps from my husbands old phone to his new one. I have already backed up the old phone and got everything onto iTunes, but every time I plug the new iPhone 5s into my computer it says that the version of iTunes is not correctly localized for this language and asks for me to run the English version. I have no idea how to do that? Please help.

my laptop will not open iTunes, as it just says 'This version of iTunes has not been correctly localised for this language. Please run the English version'. I have not synconised my iPhone 5S or iPad 2 with iTunes for well over a year. I noticed the music which had previously been put into iTunes has dissappeared from my phone and iPad. I also want to remove some movies from my iPad and iPhone and there is no way I can do this without being able to manually sync with the Laptop which is running windows 7. Has anyone else come across this and please can you help? I am no expert in fact I know very little about the Laptop, it is my Husbands baby but he doesn't understand anything to do with Apple including iTunes. I will need any advise explained step by step please.

Hi Shelady,
Try downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes from the first link below. If that doesn't do it, the suggestions in the second article should resolve the installation issue.

• Oracle 9i Support for multi language is not working.. Giving question mark

HI,
We have an application which uses oracle 9i as the database. Riight now we are supporting only english and there is a requirement to support multiple languages like korean, chineese and japaneese.
But we are planning to migrate one part of the application to support multi languages. Means it may affect around 10 tables but with huge data. Totally we have around 100 tables.
How to enable the database for supporting multiple langugages.?
Is there any way to enable only the few tables supporting multiple languages. Because if we change the database level parameters for supporting languages, we may need to migrate entire tables. this will be a huge task.
Even if want to set the parameters for supporting multiple languages.. how to set it. Is it possible set it in the existing database or do we need to re-create the table with these prameters.
I have read in some documentation, that we can create table columns with nVarchar2 for supporting multi languages. I have created it. but if i copy some other language characters into those columns, it is giving question mark.
Is it possible to do search using text in native langugage like chineese..
Could somebody guide me on the above clarificationa and what would be the best approach..
Thanks in advance
Jino

You should not use any more Oracle 9.0.1 but at least Oracle 9.2.0.8 to get some extended support if you really cannot upgrade to 10g.
I don't have any Oracle 9.x database available but I've run successfully following test with Oracle 10.2.0.1 in character mode under Linux:
oracle@pbell:~$ export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8

• Auto_lexer (stemming) not working for other languages(other than english)

Hi All,
We are planning to use AUTO_LEXER instead of MULTI_LEXER and observed that stemming is not working for German where as it is working for English when I use AUTO_LEXER. I even used query templates but of no use.
But when i use MULTI_LEXER, creating sub lexers for German and Enlgish, Stemming is working for German also after changing the session language and setting stemmer of wod list to German (Which is expected).
Following is the code for AUTO_LEXER creation:
CREATE TABLE test_auto_lexer(pkey NUMBER(5,0),

In the future, please begin a new thread for a new question and provide a link to a related question.
According to the online documentation, Oracle only supports stemming for English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. Oracle does not support Russian stemming, although you may have gotten some accidental results, due to identifying it as a different language and applying stemming rules for that language. The following manual sections show the languages available for the index_stems attribute of the basic_lexer and stemmer attribute of the basic_wordlist:
Basic_lexer attributes:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/text.112/e24436/cdatadic.htm#CIHHBAAD
Basic_wordlist attributes:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/text.112/e24436/cdatadic.htm#g1019326
Also, please see the following note:
Features not available in 11.2.0.3:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/readmes.112/e22488/toc.htm#BABDGGDB
"Certain Oracle Text functionality based on third-party technologies, including AUTO_LEXER and CTX_ENTITY, have been disabled in this release (reference Bug 12618046). For BASIC_LEXER, the usage of the INDEX_STEMS attribute values that depend on third-party technologies, is also affected. If this impacts an existing application, contact Oracle Support Services for guidance."
Also, the auto_lexer has been replaced by the world_lexer, which only has one attribute:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/text.112/e24436/cdatadic.htm#BHCJEGFJ
I don't work for Oracle, so I don't know why they do things the way they do.
So, you need to stick with the basic_wordlist for stemming, not the lexers. However, you may get better performance by combining the multi_lexer with the basic_wordlist, as the multi_lexer eliminates time spent on automatic language detection. But, you need to remember not to use the index_stems with your lexer, since it will conflict with the wordlist. I am not experiencing any time problems as you have. Please see the demo below. I have provided the whole script below that, so that you can reproduce it on your system. If you still have problems, then it may be due to differences in versions.

I want to know what are the best practices and guidelines for development in SharePoint 2010 keeping one thing in mind that customization should be compatible or can easily migrate to SharePoint 2013 so that re-engineering effort would be as minimum
as possible.
We have every possible piece of customization in SharePoint 2010 portal like web part, event receivers, workflows, master page, page layout, custom search etc.
Please do the needful.

Best practices don't really apply here. They are generally rules of thumb that you can apply without thinking too much and be pretty much right. Development is by it's nature too varied to allow that sort of best practice guidance.
Having said that the main thing you should be concerned with around the choice of development approach in 2013 is the intended future of your client and the application. If they are making a move to the cloud you should be concentrating on the app model
and rapidly phasing out farm solutions. If they are considering it then you can still consider using the more old-school options of farm solutions and sandboxed solutions. If they can't go to the cloud because of data security etc. then you are more or less
free to use what you like.
Also, try to move to client side processing wherever possible. MS are only going to make server side work less pleasant in future.
Beyond that, get to some conferences and start chewing through some of the blogs on the topic.

• How to Change the default format for differnt language both in java and SQL

Hello,
I am using SQL Anywhere in my application. And in my java client application user can log in with their preferred language like English,French,German,Chinese,etc....When even the user log in to the application the data from the database will be displayed with respective to the language. But when i tried to see the dates in Interactive SQL all the dates r in the format of '2008-12-5 16:44:10:673' but say for example for Chinese it will be displayed as '08-12-5 16.44.10' and for some other language it will come in some other format(which is standard format for those language).
Mean while i am using java client. When ever i am displaying a date it will be with respective to the language using Locale and date format classes. When i am displaying the date for Chinese in GUI it will show the date as '08-12-5 下午4:44'. In summary
1. For Chinese, the default date pattern from SQL Anywhere date base is '08-12-5 16.44.10'
2. For the same language date using java code is displaying as '08-12-5 下午4:44'. and i am getting the time format pattern as 'ah:mm'.I tried to change the display format in regional settings but no change in display.
Is there any way to make both the time format as same?
Please help me to solve this issue!!!
Thanks in Advance!

Hello masijade,
I did as u said but still the date display is not the same......And I'm telling you that it doesn't matter. What "format" the DB likes to display a Date in when it displays it, is completely irrelevant to how you display it in your GUI.
A Date does not have a format. A String representation of a Date does.
As long as you use getDate from ResultSet and setDate from PreparedStatement you do not have to worry about this. Those methods will handle dates to and from the DB themselves. You can then use SimpleDateFormat to display the Date anyway you want to.
Just because you show the Date one way, and the DB shows it another, does not mean that it is not the same date. Don't get hung up on how the String representation of the Date looks.
Edit: If you simply want to be able to do "Human Comparisons" then look at the SQL TO_CHAR function (for Oracle, for other DBs the function name may vary). And for Java, read the API docs for SimpleDateFormat (as already intimated above).

• ITunes will no longer download. It says it has not been correctly localized for this language, and to run the English version. How do I do that?

My iTunes will no longer download.
All of a sudden I get the message "This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. Please run the English version".
How do I fix this and run the English version again? .

Start by trying to repair iTunes from the programs and features control panel.
Otherwise, for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I did a system restore, trying to get rid of the new update (which I HATE), and now when I try to open iTunes, I get an error message telling me that "This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. Please run the English version." You can't change the language option unless you can open iTunes - and IT WON'T OPEN!!! What a piece of crap! If there existed an iTunes substitute, I would purchase it in a hot minute!

Strip it out and start again.

If you really want to roll back to 11.4 uninstall all iTunes/Apple components as described in the second box, restore the pre-upgrade version of the library as described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash, then download and install from one of these direct links:
iTunes 11.4.0.18 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-09-09)

• FAQ: User Interface Guidelines for CRM 2007 are now available

The CRM UI Concept Team has made the UI Guidelines for CRM Web Client User Interface (CRM 2007 UI) available to the BPX community:
This document provides an overview of the on-premise as well as the off-premise versions of the SAP CRM Web Client User Interface (UI). It contains the properties and principles of the SAP CRM Web Client UI that are already committed and available. For planned features, refer to the corresponding specification documents.
The information in the guidelines starts with general topics, followed by details. The sections are organized with high-level topics like Page Types and Navigation Schema first, followed by the consecutive sections describing which building blocks and elements of the UI populate the various pages. A section typically starts with one or more screenshots of a central UI element with a generic explanation. The subsequent sections explain the detailed aspects of each element.
We hope that you will find this information useful.

• CHARSET for Korean language to open Korean .wft files in workflow.

Hi,
I want to open Korean .wft files in oracle workflow builder.
For that, I had given 'KOREAN_KOREA.KO16KSC5601' (and also 'KO16KSCCS' as charset) as the NLS_LANG value in the window registry but I am getting following error once I logged in to database using workflow builder:
1300: Could not load.
1114: Could not load from database.
1101: Could not load item types from database. FILTER=%
333: Could not set item type properties for 'FPAPJP'.
332: 'SET' validation failed for item type 'FPAPJP'.
306: Invalid display name 'Project Portfolio Analysis '.
203: Value contains leading or trailing spaces.
When I tried with 'KO16DBCS' charset, I am getting following error:
1700: Could not connect with username/password 'apps/apps@cxlv1' ('ORA-01017: ‰•¥“‰„@¤¢…™•”…a—¢¢¦–™„^@“–‡–•@„…•‰…„
though I am using the same username/password and tnsname that I am using to connect english and japanese .wft files.
Please share with me the correct charset for korean language to be able to work with workflow builder.
Thanks,
Sumit

Thanks for your reply...
It didn't work..When I am giving AMERICAN_AMERICA.KO16KSC5601 as value for NLS_LANG, workflow builder is fetching wft only in American English !..
Any other clue!!
