  • Developer Guidelines for Using /tmp ?

Is there an Apple document anywhere with an official guidelines for using /tmp?
I know Apple started (explicitly) encouraging developers to use /tmp under Leopard because it's ignored by Time Machine but I can't find any actual definition of what a "temporary" file is or how long it can be guaranteed to exist in /tmp. Does the system regularly flush /tmp files using something like cron or luanchd as a part of system maintain?
I think it is a good idea but I don't want someone to leave the application open and possibly have a support file pulled out from underneath it.
    Thanks,

I don't think Apple's guidelines are any different than the standard /tmp guidelines for UNIX. That being said, I don't know if they are written down anywhere.
I wouldn't use /tmp at all if there were another option. Most UNIX programmers try to avoid it because it is is usually a tiny partition on a local file system. Often, if you need a temp file, you need lots of space. Other times, you need a temp file but you want it to be fast. A common tactic is to create temp files and then hard link them into place when you are done. That usually won't work if using /tmp because the final destination is a different file system.

They usually go away at reboot. I don't know if it is shutdown or start up. /tmp is a good place for UNIX sockets, but not much else.

Nothing is going to get pulled out from underneath. I don't know the details of when the flush takes place, but I know it won't touch any open files. Otherwise, some system services (UNIX sockets are on my mind these days) wouldn't work. I wouldn't close any file in /tmp and later expect it to be there. It usually will be there, but it isn't guaranteed.

  • Why you are increased my cost for using photoshop from € 19 .99 to € 30.74 I'm still student, what I have to do to pay €19.99?

why Adobe have increased my cost for using photoshop from € 19 .99 to € 30.74 I'm still student, what I have to do to pay €19.99?

I wonder if it is the full CC package, and he has a special Student/Teacher price?  He'd be paying way more than 50 Euros otherwise.  I pay NZ$53 a month for the full package, and we a now doing OK in Oz and NZ, but I believe price gouging still goes on in Europe.
Nice to hear from you to Gene.  Have you had any rain over there yet?  We saw some of the LA fire footage on our news last month.  The drought map link you sent me a while back is still showing Extreme for your area!     I don't know if this might help?  http://www.ehow.com/how_5519447_perform-raindance.html    You can see exactly what my weather is now.  NZ Met Service has enabled a link to the BBC WOW site, so we can link our own weather stations.  That's me center top, but you need to zoom in to the right side of the map from this link.  It's been 'kin hot today!

Yes this is the more appropriate way to do this same thing without VITs.  I posted a while ago an example using this technique which doesn't require knowing the path to any VI files here:

  • Guidelines for importing graphics from Photoshop

Can anyone provide some guidelines for laying out a DVD menu design in Photoshop to be brought into DVD SP? What physical dimensions? What file format? Anything else I should know?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Sorry if it sounds like RTFM, but a good starting point is reading the Preparing Menu Sources topic in the DVDSP User Manual.
Basically you can use PSD files and/or TIFFs, PNGs. Avoid JPG because you must be very careful with compression level. If you work with PSDs, remember rasterizing effects before importing in DVDSP.
About the file dimension in pixels, this info is taken from the manual:
A good way to select the right dimension is starting a new PS file and use the video presets. You'll get a blank file guith secutiry zones guides, and the correct dimension and pixel aspect ratio to work with during menu design.
    Hope that helps !

  • Guideline for Using 40 Char in Short Text Field of Material Master

    Dear Experts & Forum Members,
In MM01 while creating a Material Master record (spare part) we need to fill in Basic Data. It has a field known as "Short Text Field " This Field has limitation of 40 characters. This is the same field which has Searched associated with it. This description is what we see when we look for Stock Overview of Material in the Stores through MEMBER.
To use this 40 characters efficiently people usually come up with a guideline so that maximum and meaningful information crucial information for identification of spare part/material is VIEWED when we see it.
For example for an AC Motor the description may look like
*MOTOR AC SQ 100KW 1500 RPM 8P CLA FRXYZ
which describes AC Motor, Squirrel Cage Type, 100 KW, 1500 RPM, 8 Pole, Class A, Frame Size XYZ
Request the forum members to provide / share any guideline they might have come up with to use these 40 characters to describe different spare parts.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards
    Vinay

    Hi Vinay,
We are also doing the same activity and we are arranging the material description in a manner which is almost simlar to you.
But, except one thing which is Classification. We have classification feature mapped with material master for the details of Dimension,Brand,Color and Orgin.
    For further commets, rever back.

  • I have set up sync and it has worked, but the key is impossibly long and I can't memorize it. I would have to write it down and then what, store it in my iphone case for use away from the computer? That's no good.

Can I change the sync key sequence to something I can remember I guess is my question.

No, Mozilla doesn't allow the user to create their own Sync Key any longer, it is a standardized 26 character string that us generated automatically. There is a shorter 15 character string that seems to be used for mobile devices and used when setting a different device once Sync is set up and the initial sync is completed, but I don't know how the two different strings relate to each other.
Once FirefoxHome is setup in the iPhone it should remember the login information and work seamlessly. You shouldn't have to remember your Sync Key and fill it out after the initial setup of the FirefoxHome app.

  • Config to use JPA 2.0 in eclipse for weblogic portal 10.3.2

    Hi,
can anyone help me to config eclipse for WLP 10.3.2 for using JPA 2.0
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The following EclipseLink JPA tutorial for WebLogic 10.3.2 (EclipseLink 1.2 is shipped in the modules directory on WebLogic) is Eclipse IDE based and includes details on getting your EAR deployed and debuggable via the Eclipse 3.4/3.5 EE edition IDE. This is via the WebLogic server plugin or via the OEPE. Source is included for all EAR, EJB and WAR projects as well as the SE DDL generation project to setup your database.
The following tutorial and EclipseLink 2.0 wiki sites are the most current versions

  • How to use JPA in a worker thread?

I'm using WebLogic 10.3.5.0 with JPA 2.0 and have the following scenario:
    - user needs to start a task takes some time to complete;
    - this task needs to read and write to DB;
One solution would be to write a worker and use the WorkManager feature to start this from an session EJB.
How should I use JPA from this worker to access the DB in a transactional manner?

You should be able to use it as normal.
Your worker class is probably not injected like your SessionBean, so you would either need to pass the EntityManager, or look it up either through JNDI if container managed, or Persistence if application managed.
For transactions, you either need to use JTA directly if using JTA, or use JPA transactions if using RESOURCE_LOCAL.

  • What are the best practices for using the enhancement framework?

    Hello enhancement framework experts,
Recently, my company upgraded to SAP NW 7.1 EhP6.  This presents us with the capability to use the enhancement framework.
A couple of senior programmers were asked to deliver a guideline for use of the framework.  They published the following statement:
"SAP does not guarantee the validity of the enhancement points in future releases/versions. As a result, any implemented enhancement points may require significant work during upgrades. So, enhancement points should essentially be used as an alternative to core modifications, which is a rare scenario.".
I am looking for confirmation or contradiction to the statement  "SAP does not guarantee the validity of enhancement points in future releases/versions..." .  Is this a true statement for both implicit and explicit enhancement points?
Is the impact of activated explicit and implicit enhancements much greater to an SAP upgrade than BAdi's and user exits?
Is there any SAP published guidelines/best practices for use of the enhancement framework?
    Thank you,
    Kimberly

  • Minimum Install for Using ODBC Driver.

What is the minimum installation required for using ODBC from a client machine.
EG I have an application in Access and I want to connect to a table on my oracle server. The user machine, has Access installed, and I don't wnat to install the whole 50 megs(OK I exagerate A little but not much) of NET 8 client just so they can look at a table in Access from Oracle.
What specific elements are necessary in the install, TCP/IP, Named pipe protocol adapters?, required support files?, SQL*plus 8?
Say its a version 8.0.4 server for arguments sake and I want the least hassle setting up 50 users who already have office installed with the latest version of MS ODBC32, they have no Oracle software on their machines.
    null

Unfortunately, you'll need to do at least a minimal Oracle client install. While we probably don't actually rely on everything that gets installed here, we don't test our driver with anything less than a minimal install.

  • Sending SNMP traps using JDMK from a SunOS 5.8 workstation

    Hi,
We are using JDMK 5.1 for sending traps. This works when I run my java application (sending the traps) on my Windows desktop, where I have installed the JDMK.
I want to run my application on a Sun workstation . For this I copied the JDMK libraries and traps are not received by the SNMP Manager. I would like to know the procedure for using JDMK from Sun OS. Do I have to install the Agent on Sun workstation rather than just copying the libraries?
    Thank you for the help.
    -Rejani

There is a big difference between an app that isn't sending traps and one that isn't receiving them.
You aren't eating exceptions in your code are you? If not then that means the traps are being sent. And if so then it means it has nothing to do with your application and probably nothing to do with the box and probably does have something to do with the network.

  • Using users from an external table in the BI Publisher add-in for Word

After installing the BI Publisher add-in in Word, I find that I can connect to BI Publisher (http://hostname:9704/xmlpserver) only using IDs that are defined within WLS. I'm using an Oracle database table and external authentication to get my users logged in to the Answers environment, and they use the BI Publisher features of Analytics as well. But if I try to connect from the add-in to xmlpserver as one of those externally authenticated users, it fails.
Do I have to create new users in WebLogic Security for those folks who need to build BIP templates in Word? If not, how can I get the add-in to recognize and use the external table authentication?
I'm in 11.1.1.6.2 BP1, but I've noticed the problem for a long time, possibly back to 10g.

As you probably noticed, your formulas won't import into Project Siena - only the data.
I've created a sample application for you to demonstrate how you create formulas in Project Siena.
Here's the link to the project:
    https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=D64FC13017F614FD!47783&authkey=!AN3UxGDTP1vNbbU&ithint=folder%2cjpg
In this example, I'm doing the heavy lifting on the Calculate button.
Here's what I did to create the project.
I added two input text boxes for height and weight
    I added a calculate button.
I added a label to display the result.  In the Default Text I added
BMI which is a context variable.  I could have called it BMIResult - it's up to you.
Here's the formula for OnSelect of the Calculate button:
    UpdateContext({BMI: Round((Value(txtWeight!Text) / Value(txtHeight!Text * txtHeight!Text)), 2)*703})
Note: If you haven't done so already, click 'Express View' in the lower right hand corner to see the properties.
UpdateContext is a formula that is used to change results - in this case the variable, BMI.
I used the Round function so it displays 2 digits for the decimal.
I used the Value formula to convert the input boxes to numbers.
This should get you started in the right direction - let me know if you need further explanation.
One more thing to add - when creating a context variable, you will see a yellow exclamation mark until you have a formula that references it.

  • How to use Property Editor from an Add-In?

    Hi,
I am writing a WYSIWYG add-in for JDev that allows users to put some object into a JPanel instance.
Thess object has properties such as left, right, width, height, etc.
    - Question: how to use JDev's property editor to allow users change properties of thess object?
    - Another word: how to user JDev's Property Editor API from an add-in?
I looked at the document. It does not give me enough information about Property Editor.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hello Prasad,
You are on the right avenue - launch an external application which can connect to running Outlook instance and then close it. After this you can launch Outlook anew. Here are the steps required to get the job done:
    1. Use the Marshal.GetActiveObject method which obtains
a running instance of the specified object from the running object table (ROT) - Outlook in your case, for example:
// Check whether there is an Outlook process running.
    if (Process.GetProcessesByName("OUTLOOK").Count() > 0)
// If so, use the GetActiveObject method to obtain the process and cast it to an Application object.
    application = Marshal.GetActiveObject("Outlook.Application") as Outlook.Application;
    then use the
Quit method to close the running instance. The
associated Outlook session will be closed completely; the user will be logged out of the messaging system and any changes to items not already saved will be discarded.
    2.  Use the
Start method of the System.Diagnostics.Process class to start Outlook anew.
