Guides is in gray, smart guide is in black. I want guides. What to do?
To learn Photoshop I'm using the Lynda.com course. I'm in the Fundamentals chapter 9, Select and Edit. This is the first chapter to give me trouble.
I have all the appropriate files open and I'm following along. The teacher has us Command A to select the image, Command T and R to transform the image and bring up the rulers. He then drags the guides to aline them in the center. When I move the guides the whole image moves compressing into itself.
I then go to View, Show and look through the drop down menu. Sure enough, Smart Guides are turned on and in black and Guides is in gray, so I can't select.
I've been going nuts trying to bring up the guides and I can't do it.
I've aligned the movie to make sure every setting on the teachers monitor match mine.
How do I turn on guides? Is there an easier way to find the center of an image?

Thanks for the help.
It didn't work but eventually I worked out that to get the guides I had to go into the ruler as laid out on the workspace, click and drag. Strangely, even thought the drop down menu selection was grayed out, I could still click in the menu and pull down the guide.When I went back to the show drop screen Guides is in black and selected.

Restore as New (no backup)... then Re-Sync your Content.

my sound has stopped working i have speakers plugged in but computer doesnt register or recognize them. the volume is on mute and grayed out ...will not let me change,what can i do to fix this problem....i have tried unplugging and plugging back in and reset and headphones...nothing works..how do i get my sound back?

If you are getting an issue with the display on your iPhone such as you describe, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Specifically -
Display image issues
This can include bright or dark pixels, lines in video, or sections of video missing.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.

MY mac wont start past the gray screen. I tried starting on safe boot, single user user mode , recovery mode. Everything it gets stuck on the gray screen i even tried reinstalling it , same thing what should i do? it lets me reinstall sometimes Sometimes.... it is weird.

boot from the Mac OS X Install DVD that originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro (by holding down the C key as it starts up). When the desktop appears, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and erase your internal disk. After it’s been erased, reformat it. After it’s been reformatted, exit Disk Utility and reïnstall the version of Mac OS X from that DVD onto your internal disk. After that version of Mac OS X has been reïnstalled, boot from your internal disk and run Software Update to get it up-to-date within that version; that should allow you to redownload and reïnstall Mavericks, if desired. If Mavericks is reïnstalled, run Software Update again to get it up to date.
If you no longer have the two grey installation DVDs, you can purchase a replacement set from either Apple or iFixit. -
I have my Launch Video ready and the "share" drop down is gray so no ability to send it anywhere. What is this? I went on to update the computer for other reasons, now Safari 6.0.2 asit interfered with downloads; and from OS X basic to Mtn Lion 10.8.2.
Make sure your Project has the focus. You cannot Share an Event.

I'm sorry, had you already pointed out the rules which stated that lines from 2 separate accounts were eligible??? I don't see anywhere in the advertisement specifically stating that lines from 2 separate accounts would be eligible, so THAT is not what's advertised, either.
As far as I know Verizon's BOGO offers have ALWAYS been for lines on the same account. Possibly someone could chime in where they have received this offer on 2 separate accounts? The ONLY exception to this was someone getting the offer with 2 eligible lines on their account, reactivating the old phone on one of the lines and then giving one of the new phones to someone on another account.

Smart object import changes black colour code

I'm trying to solve some problems I'm having with illustrator objects placed in Photoshop and I wonder whether the following is possible at all: I place illustrator grahics with a black background as smart objects in Photoshop and when I check the colours of the smart object the black has another code and it looks paler as well. Now the question is, is it possible at all to insert an AI graphic and have PS keep the colour code? I work with CMYK on both apps and so far the colour settings should be matched for the CS package. I have checked to display all black shades in deep black under the AI preferences but I am not sure if that is relevant at all. I figure the apps may display the colours differently but at least the colour codes should be kept... or am I expecting too much here?Well I have the same cmyk profile on both apps as I wrote before. But now that you made me aware to check the profiles once again I came to realize I set the black value in AI according to the cmyk color bar in the colour tab (the black and white square on the right), which will have all the values on 0% except from the k one which is 100%. But the actual 000000 value has another distribution for the percentage in CMYK... So there problem solved. Just wonder why the black values won't match for the predefined black colour, why it can't be the universal #000000... Anyway thanks!

PS - Are you talking about Lr mobile sync or some other kind of sync?
PPS - Asking users why Adobe does things may not be as productive as expressing a goal and asking how to accomplish it (most of the time, the answer to the former is: they quit working on it once their budget was exhausted, so now you get it as is - limitations and all..).

G4 TiBook won't go past gray apple screen with spinning black wheel
Hi,
I am trying to get this machine to boot, and things are very strange.
The latest development, which I'll start with, is that I just finished an install of Tiger on the machine. It gets to the gray Apple screen with the spinning cursor. However, the startup/welcome music to Tiger played in the background, and it started walking me through keyboard commands via Voiceover.
1) It will boot off of a Tiger or Panther startup DVD/CD, and will install without incident.
2) It will actually boot from the hard drive with a fresh install of OS 9.2.
3) Another machine can boot the hard drive while the TiBook is in firewire target mode.
4) I have tried a brand new hard drive, and have tried to boot other machines while they were in Firewire target mode - same behavior.
5) I have tried resetting PMU, PRAM and NVRAM multiple times. Every time I boot into OF, the very top message is "NVRAM Corrupted" and it performs an init-vram command, to which it says "OK".
6) Before all of this happened, the machine underwent an upgrade from Panther to Tiger. Everything was working fine (albeit slowly, since the hard drive was almost totally full) until PRAM and NVRAM were reset. After that, the only thing the machine has been able to do (with OS X on the drive) is boot to this gray splash screen.
7) The hard drive has been wiped completely with a fresh install of Tiger and even Panther several times. Same behavior.
8) Have tried taking out the memory, changing the memory - all resulting in the same startup screen.
I've tried booting up using Verbose mode as well as Safe mode. Doesn't make any difference. The only thing I have not tried is taking out the CMOS battery (which I don't yet know where it's at on this machine).
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Just one thought fwiw: I'm wondering if you have a bad cache. I can't remember if you can access your Apple Menu>About This Mac>More Info while booted to your install disc, but if so, see if your L2 and L3 cache are listed. If that doesn't work, again I don't remember if this will work, but while booted to FWTDM open Applications>Utilities>System Profiler on your Ti HD and see if caches are listed. Which Ti (CPU) do you have btw?
If it does turn out to be a cache issue, not good news, as cache is incorporated into the logic board, and the "repair" is actually replacing the LB. -

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty (unless you are in the US and have AppleCare+ which I think covers 2 cases of damage for an excess). I don't know what country that you are in, but in the US the price for repair (i.e. replacement) for the iPad 3 is (from here) $299, and here in the UK (from here) £256.44 . Are you need to an Apple store that you could go into ?
