I'm new to Logic Pro X and can't work out how to record my voice over existing tracks without them playing over the speaker. I'm using a Sure mike through an audio interface and have headphones plugged into the interface?

Hi Kevin, what kind of audio interface do you have?

  • Hello, i am desperately trying to get logic to awknoledge my guitar. I am using a scarlet audio interface and have all the software ( i think) and logic is recognising the audio interface but no guitar is coming through.

I am using the scarlett 2i2 and i have my guitar plugged into that which is plugged into my mac book pro via usb. Logic is recognizing my 2i2 (i believe i have all the software downloaded, although i didnt use the disc provided i downloaded it from the internet) and my mac book is recognizing that the guitar is playing. if i go into preferences, then go to sound, input, i can see that it knows the guitar is plugged in. how come i cant get logic to read my guitar?

    Kieron,
Look at page 33 of the LPX user guide here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1648/en_US/logic_pro_x_user_guide.p df
It explains in easy steps how to fix your problem. You'll find it way more beneficial learning while you are doing than just have someone tell you.

  • Two audio interfaces but different uses in one system

    Hi,
I have already got an audio interface for recording and run smoothly.
Recently I get another audio interface (M-Audio Firewire 410). I want to add it to my system as a standalone mixer in which the outputs will be connected to 2 another active monitors, the inputs of this "mixer" are connected to audio outputs of a DVD player.
So, I can control the DVD volume by the knob on the Firewire 410 and by the M-Audio software in my Mac but my original audio set up doesn't change.
I mean, the DVD audio signal pass to the Firewire 410 then output to the newly added monitors only,my original monitors will not be affected (no DVD sound).
At the same, if I play mp3 in i-tunes, the music will output to my original monitors only.
Just like two independent audio set up in one system, is it possible ?
Thanks for any help in advance.
    Cheers,
    edtayin

You need to give complete details of the audio, exactly what is it, how many tracks, what's the channel configuration?
Can you post screen shots of what you're doing and what happens?
In expanding audio components in the timeline I can see what looks like an extra audio clip married to this one on a different track which has no signal, but I can't delete that additional audio clip.
Let's see this and the channel configuration in the audio inspector.

  • USB audio Interface distortion/static when sound is played.

My USB audio interface started sending out static/distortion to my speakers one day. It's more apparent when volume is very very low. To troubleshoot I switched to the other USB port and it worked fine for a month or so. Now the second USB port is creating static. I have reason to believe it's the computer not my interface as there was static on one usb port and none on the other. Now both ports create static. Is there something in my computer I can try reseting or should I look into getting a new interface?
Thank you in advance for any guidance with this.

    13" MacBook (Late 2008) 2.4Ghz w/ OS X 10.6.6

No noise problems when the interface is plugged into other systems.. Only on the G5...
And I tried plugging it into all the different USB ports on the G5, the one in front and the two in the back... All with the same result.
    Thank you for your reply.

  • Audio interface input/output and sound questions

I have finally managed to find the driver for my MobilePre USB and got it installed....pheeew!!!
    Loaded up GarageBand.
I have selected audio input and selected mobilepre as the input.....so I am hearing myself now...but only through one headphone....why is that???
Also I hear myself record through the headphone/s and when I play back or select metrone I hear it through the monitor speakers.
I thought this could be resolved by changing the audio output under preferences to MobilePre USB....but then I lost all sound all together and could not get any back until I uninstalled the MobilePre drive and reinstalled it again.
Any ideas how I can get playback coming through the headphones....and the metronome too???

    Thanks for the reply.
I was running my headphones through my MobilePre....and I have just tried plugging them into the Headphone Jack but I couldn't hear anything when I recorded...but I could hear what I recorded on playback...metronome and bass track in both headphone...thats some progress
Now I just need to know how to hear myself when I record....any thoughts?????

  • I'm getting audio levels, but no actual sound...

At work I'm running FCP 5.1.4 on a MacBook Pro. We have a Sony DSR-25 DVCAM deck that is run via FireWire to import/export. This system has been running flawlessly until recently.
Someone messed up all of the configurations while trying to hook up another camera externally and I can't figure out how to get them back how they were. I'm able to capture video from the DVCAM deck, BUT, there is no audio. The levels are showing audio and if I plug headphones into the DVCAM deck itself I can hear audio, but not from the Mac while importing...
I also tried importing an existing quicktime video file onto my sequence and the exact same problem was happening...
Also, all of the sudden we can't print to video. I'm able to import from the DVCAM deck but not export. Could these problems be related? I tried trashing the settings but the same thing is happening.
    Any suggestions?

In the log and Capture window there is a little box on the tab with the audio meters that says something like preview audio on import. Is this checked?
Sorry can't help you with your print to tape issues.

  • Plugging Guitar into Macbook Pro 13'' - Audio Interfaces

Alright, so I've done a fair bit of research but there just seems to be so much to read out there that I figure it may simply be easier to post this here and see what kind of answers I get. Anyway, I want to plug my guitar and record some stuff on my macbook pro (13-inch, core-2 duo) and i'm running Snow Leopard. I'm a pretty seasoned guitar player, but I'm not looking to do the heaviest and most intense recording here, I simply want to be able to decently record some stuff onto my mac. I know with my macbook it has a dual audio input/output jack, but I don't exactly want to plug in through the input though because I want the output going into some speakers, and using the input jack really isn't the greatest (especially when I'm plugging into just an electric guitar). So my options appear to be using an audio interface, but first question is whether or not I should be looking at USB or Fireware connections. Secondly, I read some stuff about the Apogee Jam thing (which is usb) and is reasonably priced, along with M-Audio Fast Track (also usb) and is a little higher priced. Basically I'm looking for something that is reasonably priced (as I'm not professionally recording here) around the $100 range, but produces a pretty solid sound quality, and works fairly well...the best bang for the buck, if you will.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I also have an amp that I could use that has a headphone jack which I can plug the guitar into the amp, and the amp into the computer (but again, it seems as though plugging into the input really is not the greatest call).
    Thanks very much!

I also don't need an audio interface with any additional sound patches, or effects, etc. I have more than enough to do that with my own equipment. So, an audio interface with a lot of effects is definitely not a priority.

  • Heavy white noise/hiss while recording guitar through audio interface

I have just purchased a new MacBook pro 2011 (low end 15") and have tried recording with an m-audio fast track audio interface. Unfortunately I'm getting terrible white noise and hiss while recording my guitar. The guitar is plugged straight into the interface using a guitar lead which is then usb connected to my mac.
I am pretty sure it's not the interface because it's brand new. Also I have tried three different guitars and all have the same out come.
    Please help
Things that may help diagnose the problem:
I have installed a new driver.
When the gain and presence is increased the noise is worse.
The output is not hitting the red mark.
    Thanks
    Andre

I had your problem and I resolved it! i have my mic and guitars plugged into my Eurorack UB1202 analog mixer which outputs to my MacBook Pro via Bheringer UCA222 audio interface then back to my mixer and to my headphones/speakers. i noticed a white noise last night while i was working and all I did to fix it was unplug the audio interface from the outside usb hub (closest to the screen) and plugged it into my middle hub. the noise has now stopped and its crystal clear.
TL;DR try plugging your audio interface into different usb hubs. it worked for me. hope that helps!

  • Will an audio interface help?

I'm looking to get started with GB using my Yamaha Clavinova. I've managed to get the keyboard connected through its built in USB midi interface, but when playing software instruments there seems to be a limitation on how fast, and how many keys I can play simultaneously. Too many or too fast, and the sound drops out.
I've started looking at audio interfaces like the M-Audio Fast Track Pro, but I'm not sure if it will help me much with midi. I'm not as interested in recording live instruments or vocals although I may in the future. My main desire is to use the software instruments.

  • Is an audio interface really necessary?

Ok, right now I have my condenser mic hooked up to a phantom power and from the phantom power to the computer. All my recordings come out clear and loud. But my friend told me that if I get an audio interface, my recordings will sound much better. Well is it true? What are the benefits of an audio interface?
    thanks

I actually use a variety of interfaces. Yesterday I spent the day with one from M-Audio and, while not as good sounding as the RME in my sig, the results were surprisingly good.
While there are a number of technical reasons why interfaces will sound better than going into the computer directly, aside from the technical mumbo jumbo, I do find a big jump in sound quality using an interface vs. a direct input, and not simply the difference between one flavor preamp and another.
Obviously, there are interfaces, and then there are interfaces! But even so, I've yet to use any interface that hasn't worked noticeably better than plugging directly into the computer.
That said, if someone is just starting out and wants to plug and play, and is more than happy with the quality of the computer's inputs, then they're wasting their money buying anything else. No one should buy anything they don't want or need!
But if someone is striving for better sound quality than what comes with the computer, the fact that interfaces add obvious flexibility shouldn't shroud the fact that they also improve sound quality under the hood.
kbeartx does make an excellent point, one of two that frequently degrade conversations about gear. Of course experience is all important! And the other: "it's all about the music," as if discussing equipment suggests otherwise. Still, equipment, and discussing it, has a value. Equipment and experience are not mutually exclusive.
It's like surgeons speaking about scalpels. An experienced surgeon will do a better job with a steak knife than an inexperienced surgeon will do with a finely-honed scalpel. Still, no one would denigrate any surgeon for seeking the best tool available.
    That's all this is.
Inifinity239 has a steak knife and is wondering if a scalpel works better. As someone who has used both (to continue this now very tortured metaphor )... I would say of course!

  • IMac20" with firewire audio-interface konnekt24D by tcelectronic

    Hi folks,
I've got some cryptic problems with my iMac and the connected firewire audio-interface (konnekt24D by tcelectronic). I'm running MacOSX 10.4.10. The problem is that after four days working with no occuring problems I got no sound output. When I restarted the Mac the blue firewire light of the audio-interface disappeared and the tcnear control panel says 'no device'. I decided to update the firmware and then everything runs properly for one day. The next day I got the same 'no output' problem. I decided to update the firmware again but now the blue firewire light disappears and I got 'no device' message from the tcnear control panel. I started the Mac again but the interface was still gone. Now I switched off the Mac and turned it on again. The interface was there and I had output. Next day I got the same problems.
The tcelectronic support said that I should disconnect any other network cables, enable every network setting on the network control panel and connect the power supply of the audio interface. I did everything but got no improvements. The people from tcelectronic concluded that my audio-interface could be defective. So I went to my mönger and he gave me a new one.
From now on everything worked fine for three days. During this time I changed nothing on my setup. No new software was installed, the only thing I did was to start LogicExpress 7.2.1 and begin with my work. After three days I got the same 'no output' problem again. Now I think that there must be something wrong with the iMac. It is the 'old' version (bought in May this year) and I don't know exactly what to do now.
What I don't understand is that both devices worked a few days and then the problems occured. As I said before I didn't changed anything, installed no new software, etc. Maybe the harddisk of the iMac is defective? I've plugged the audio-interface into the other firewire port of the Mac but got no improvement.
I don't know exactly what I should do know because I worked ten years with a PowerMac/Audiomedia III/SCSI system and never had such strange problems.
    Greetings to all of you,
    Dorsch.

It appears that sp3 has issues with firewire. I'm seeking a solution too, short of reinstalling as this person suggests. See also his link re: the famous little patch. I tried that already to no avail. I'm using SP3 too. My firewire behaves like USB... which would/could cause issues like you're describing.

  • Recording with audio interface FCA 202 Behringer

Recording from mixing board through audio interface and was wondering how to record new track and listen to the other tracks at same time to play to? I know I want to use headphones but where do I plug headphones into? tried coming off of computer and did not work. Could come off of audio interface but that would probley give me just my sound going to the computer. Not quite sure of the signal pattern I need to set up?... Do I patch another cable out of the interface to the board and listen with headphones off the board. Not sure if the audio interface works in 2 diffrent directions at once thru the firewire cable..

You choose the output in Garageband > Preferences > Audio Midi. Just choose built in output and monitor from your mac.
If you return audio from the interface back to the mixer you could monitor from the mixer. Also monitoring playback along with a dry input will insure zero latency.

  • Audio Interface Errors after Upgrade

Hi Y'all. I'm a bit dense on audio ins and outs, so bear with me. I have a M-Audio Firewire Solo audio interface. It worked fine for the last 5 months or so on Logic Express 7. After Upgrading to Logic 8 yesterday, it now records all kinds of beeps and static that I can't get rid of. It sounds almost as if there is a loose cable somewhere, except that logically that isn't it, since the only thing that changed since I last used it is the upgrade. Anyone else have this sort of problem? Thoughts?

OK, so FYI, M-Audio Tech Support has (knock-on-wood) solved the problem. I unplugged the audio interface, installed the Apple 10.4.10 Combo Update from the Apple website (I had never heard of this combo update, but apparently it updates things that would not otherwise get updated even if your Software Update says you are up to date), then repaired permissions in Disk Utility, uninstalled the M-Audio driver, fixed permissions, reinstalled the M-Audio Driver, fixed permissions, shutdown, plugged the audio interface back in (without the power cord, only firewire - apparently this is very important, not that M-Audio ever tells you that until it breaks), rebooted and presto!
It seemed kind of ridiculous to me, but hey, it seems to be working.

  • Can i record with more than one audio interface

I need to record 16 tracks, I have two different audio iterface, in GarageBand i can only find one of them, if i go to prefrenses-audio, I can set any of them as my audio interface, but only one at the time.
Any tips to how I can use bouth simultanious? Cubase, Logic mabye, GarageBand no can do? :-)

    yes, create an aggregate device:

GB can only record 8 tracks at a time, however that is 16 channels, so with some extra effort you can get the outcome you desire, see the second tip here:
