Guitar USB interface - sound problem

When I plug in the USB interface for my guitar the monitoring disapears. I get signal when I play the guitar, it records both my guitar or a virtual instrument but I can't get sound with either record or playback. When I unplug the USB everything works fine.

Try control-click on the record button. A drop down menu should give you the options montor on, monitor off or monitor on (no feed back protection). The record button is the one for the specific insrtument, located beside the mute/unmute track button. What guitar are you using to connect to your Mac?

I have a problem with my bluetooth, after installing Windows Service Pack 2 and a Bios update.
I have installed the Version 1.90 , after activating my bluetooth, the Notebook shut's down.
After rebooting of the laptop, the sound and usb connections were gone to, what can I do ?

    Hi,
At first I would re-install the chipset drivers for your Notebook.
After that Uninstall the Bluetooth Stack and re-install it also.
There is also a Information Sheet for download available to get information about new drivers for Service Pack 2. Look at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Config free (4.90.57) and PC Diagnostic Tool (3.0.6) are available for Windows XP Service 2 Users.
Have a look at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com to get the updates for download.
Keep me posted about your results

  • Audio problems with an USB interface

Hi everyone, this is my first post and glad to finally do it.
I am so pleased with arch linux, it's just simply amazing. I have learnt a lot following the wikis, it's pretty simple and effective.
I managed to install and configure ssh server, samba server (surprisingly easy), usb samsung laser printer, nvidia drivers, KDE desktop (so fast in arch), fonts, cpu scaling and I'm so happy with the results and perfomance.
The only problem I ran into is about audio, I think the wiki on audio is pretty  incomplete (don't get me wrong I enjoy your work).
The problem is with an USB interface line 6 toneport gx (http://line6.com/toneportgx/), I know the device is meant to be an usb guitar interface but since I don't longer play guitar I use it as soundcard. As complementary information it works with no problem on Ubuntu 10.04 (which is the distro I came from).
The interface works and it's unmuted since I dmix does not work when I try to play sounds from different sources I had to install pulseaudio. Pulseaudio works partially, the sound was improved and finally I am able to play different sources. The big problem is when high cpu load ocurrs the the audio dies and does not come back even when the cpu loads decrease.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

You may want to debug pulseaudio (check their wiki to see how, involves running pulseaudio in verbose mode) to see what happens.

  • Recommendations for Electric Guitar to USB interface?

I'm interested in purchasing a guitar-to-USB interface for my MacBook Pro. This Spring '11 model does not have an audio input jack, so a 1/4" to 1/8" converter is not an option. Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive interface that works well with the amps offered in GarageBand (v.6.0.4)? Thanks!

All Macbook Pros have audio input. It probably shares the same jack as the headphone.
Both the gain and the impedance are wrong for an electric guitar pickup, not a good idea.
Why not a good idea. It's cheep, it works and thousands of people do this every day.
Of course a audio interface is the way to go but if you just want to mess around with with garageband or do the guitar lessons there is no problem using the audio input.
Some single coil pickups may not have enough gain to get a good signal.

  • USB Sound Problem

I'm having a problem with my Bose USB sound system that has just recently developed. The system is plugged directly into the back of my Mac Pro desktop so it's not going through any hubs or secondary systems. When I first start my computer the sound works just fine. But after about 10 to 15 minutes of use the sound stops completely - as if the sounds have been turned off. If I boot into Windows 7 using Boot Camp, the sound system there works just fine with no problems at all, so I do not believe this issue is hardware related but is something associated with OS X.
This all started recently after installing Tinker Tool and then realizing that their latest version is not compatible with Snow Leopard. I followed their directions and told Tinker Tool to restore the previous settings and then I removed it from my system. Now, I'm having this USB sound problem. I think it's highly probable to be the cause of my problem.
Is there anyway to reinstall the USB drivers in OS X without reinstalling the entire OS? Or, is there something else I can try to restore the USB function to Snow Leopard? Many thanks for any tips or suggestions.

    They are plug and play.
I did try unplugging all of the USB devices and then powered off the computer and unplugged it for about 5 minutes as I heard that that sometimes solves USB problems. However, upon reconnecting the problem returned. All other USB devices seem to be working normally - it's only the Bose sound system. I tried plugging it into a different USB port in the back of the computer but the problem continued after about 10 minutes. Therefore, I am convinced this is not hardware related.
At this point I am thinking I need to reinstall OS X Snow Leopard to undo whatever Tinker Tool damaged. Is it possible to just replace the USB drivers in OS X without reinstalling everything?

  • Help Recording Guitar Using USB Interface?

Hi! I am pretty new to recoring my music, so bear with me. I'm using Adobe Audition CS6 and a Behringer Guitar Link Interface. I've gone to the Audio Hardware and selected the ASIO driver, and found it fine, but I am unable to record. The record button is disabled. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong/have suggestions? Much appreciated!

Well, at the risk of stating the obvious, on the same screen as where you selected the ASIO driver as the Device Class, did you go to Audio Channel Mapping (also on the Edit/Preferences menu) and select your device?  It'll probably be called something like "Behringer USB device" or something similar.
If you have and it still doesn't work, I notice on the Behringer site that it says it provides drivers for both MME and ASIO.  If that's right, it might be worth going to MME under Device Class and seeing if the Behringer is there to select as your default input.

  • Zoom G2.1u USB interface to record guitar

The Zoom is my floor guitar effects unit, but is also a USB interface. What do I need to record guitar into Garageband other than that, if anything? How/where do I set up the input preferences on the Mac so it reads the signal?
Related, I want to record 4-track tapes to digital. I have the cables that connect the red/white audio outs to the 1/4" input on the Zoom, then the USB to the computer. Will that work?
Thanks in advance for answering my dumb questions!

You have the G2 set for both input and output in the Garageband preferences. Choose the built-in output to monitor from the mac or plug the headphones into the G2.

  • Usb Arcade Controller Interface - Axis problem

    Hello sweet Arch user!
I have funny little problem I can’t see to solve myself, and I have searched the forum and the rest of the Net for solutions.
I got a Joystick/control-panel interface used in a homemade Arcade Cabinet. It got 4 axis (2x4 microswitches) and 22 buttons and is connected with USB.
It shows up as a joystick and is working perfectly in Windows XP / Debian (stable) / Archbang (Iso 2011/11). But the problem is when I use an up-to-date Arch version.
The 2 joysticks only works with DOWN and RIGHT, and nothing happens when I
    Try UP or LEFT.
Tried jscal, jstest and cat /dev/input/js0, and the only thing that isn’t showing any event is LEFT and UP. In the other distros I got a negative value on these directions running jstest.
Any ideas what I can do? I still would like to use Arch for this Cabinet.
The only module loaded is joydev.
The Controller interface is made by Xin-Mo
    Regards

    Hello
I'm having the exact same problem.
    I'm using a "PC (MAME) / PS3 to Arcade Controller USB Interface PCB Kit" http://www.jammaboards.com/store/pc-mam … a-usb.html
It also works perfectly on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
This is the closest thing I've seen as a fix, but my knowledge doesn't allow me to know how to implement on my system

  • Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize USB PnP Sound device connected  to iMac OSX even when activated in Audio MIDI setup. The iMac(i-7 processor,16 GB)   is working with this USB device without any problem

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out  integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!

I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help!

  • LOGIC PRO X and BOSS GT 10 USB interface

Hi I am using Logic pro x for the first time...So im having some difficulties in recording my guitar...I am using the USB interface BOSS GT10 along with my mac book ..my problem is
    1. im hearing multiple sounds in my output ..one of clean guitar and other of the patch that i have made on logic pro..how do i get rid of the clean sound?
    2. there is a very small amount of delay ..which is called latency ...i dont know how to get rid of that??
    3. i have amplitube...can the amps from amplitube be used in my mainstage 3 and logic pro x...if yes how??
i am new to this interface so kindly explain my problems briefly...
    thank you

I cannot answer your question about the BOSS interface..... Try reading it's User Guide for more info on routing etc...
    Owner’s Manual: (GT-10_OM.pdf)
But as far as #2 and #3 are concerned.. I suggest you take a little time and read the very helpful User Guide to Logic Pro found here or under Logic Pro's Help menu...
    The specific parts of the User Guide you will need (Though I also suggest you actually read it from the beginning as there is a lot of useful info in  there you will likely need at some point in the future) would be as follows;

  • External USB Audio - huge problems!

    Hi
I have *problems with my mb pro (mid 2009*, 2,8Ghz, 15'', 4Gb RAM)
*and Native Instruments Audio 8 USB interface.*
The interface works well when I use it on OS X 10.5.7 / 10.5.8,
but there some spund quality problems, when I am using Audio 8
on Win XP SP2 (as well as on Vista / 7 RC).
*the aufio is distorted! I hear some kind of clicks all the time..*
Changing the USB port / cables makes no difference,
hotplugging or connetcint the device while the mbp is switched off - the same problem.
    - Setting the graphic-card to a fixed performance level via Rivatuner makes no difference, the clicking is still there!
The built in soundcard is working well, as well as the audio 8 on other win xp pc...
*There are lots of clicks per second*, (it sounds a little bit like vinyl),
I hear them all the time (their intensity vary a little bit).
I've tried all possible latency settings and couldn't get rid of the clicks.
(I get the same awful sound quality using mediaplayer or ableton live,
different output channels, cabels and so on).
    - WLAN is switched off
    - ACPI is off
    - build in audio is off (bluetooth is also off)
    - energy save mode of the usb is deactivated
    - KBDMGR.EXE is off
---> *DPC Latency Checher shows values below 100 (20-90)*,
but the clicks are still there! too many of them...
I dunno how to get rid of them..
    Maybe someone can help me!
Ive already emailed NI support team, they couldnt help me yet
"some mbp users are experiencing this problem, it seems to be an apple unibody mbp issue..."

    Hi man!
I have exactly the same problem than you, I've been testing xp and win7, but it's impossible to configurate audio8dj to run properly. In Snow leopard or Winxp (not bootcamp) it runs perfect.
I discovered that is not a problem with the audio8dj, because I tried to connect my midi keyboard via usb, and it recognizes the device but I can not use it. Like with the audio8 dj. Then I think that the problem is with de usb drivers.
If you have any information... it could be good that we keep on contact... maybe then we find the solution earlier...

  • IPhone 5 not working properly with  USB interface in Honda Accord.

The iPhone 5 seems not to work properly with the USB interface in my 2012 Honda Accord. It says I have 500  songs when I only have 430, it skips over songs and freezes during play.

I actually have a different problem. I am unable to play Pandora through my USB connection in my 2012 Honda Accord SE with my iPhone 5. I can't get map directions through my speakers or any sounds at all. Any idea if a fix will be available?

  • Clicks and popping with recording and USB interface-HELP!!!

I've submitted this twice, got some responses, but has twice been ignored into oblivion. I apologize for the reposts, but this is VERY IMPORTANT, and I've been struggling with this issue for MONTHS now dealing with countless hours of lost time trying to fix it to no avail.
I'll try to include as much detail as possible.
    I use:
    MacPro 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    3 GB memory
    Logic Express 8.0.2
245.13 GB empty space on Hard Drive
    THE PROBLEM:
    When I record, I get computerized clips/pops
    http://www.moogiex.com/clickpop.mp3
    http://www.moogiex.com/morecackling.mp3
I record via a PreSonus Audiobox USB. This problem did NOT start when I got the AudioBox, but several months after.
When I simply monitor the sound going through the box, the sound is fine. It's something between the Box, and the computer output. My guess is some incompatibility with Logic Express or Core Audio and the AudioBox.
It is NOT the microphone or the cable (the pops occur with anything going in, 1/4", XLR, different inputs).
The clicks START with Logic Express. If there are any recording program open when Logic Express is open, and I record, I get the SAME pops.
It did this both under 10.5.6, 10.5.7, and now 10.5.8.
    It is NOT clipping.
    When I'm recording with LE:
—There's 1.27 GB of FREE Memory while I'm recording.
—Logic Express is only using 6.7% of CPU while recording (of only one of the four processors), and about 90-95% of CPU space is free on all four processors.
—This happens on ANY audio input, and it doesn't matter how many other tracks, how long it is. I just started a brand new file and it does it.
—This happens when I use ANY input into my computer, but is STARTED by LE.
    Here are my Logic Preferences
    Core Audio- ENABLED
    System Memory Requirement 66.0 MB
    Device: AudioBox USB
    I/O Buffer Size: 1024
    I/O Safety Buffer- UNchecked
    Recording Delay: 0 samples
    Universal Track Mode- CHECKED
    24 Bit Recording- CHECKED
    Software Monitoring- CHECKED
    Independent Monitoring Level- Checked
    Process Buffer Range: Large
ReWire Behavior: Live Mode (Higher CPU Load)
    Maximum Scrub Speed: Normal
    Scrub Response: Normal
There is *no* driver with PreSonus' AudioBox. It is simply "compatible." Here's what System Profiler says:
AudioBox USB (plugged into my Mac Pro's front bottom port):
    Product ID: 0x0301
    Vendor ID: 0x194f
    Version: 1.08
    Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: PreSonus Audio
    Location ID: 0x00200000
    Current Available (mA): 500
    Current Required (mA): 500
    Here's what I've tried:
—Disabling CoreAudio, shutting LE 8 off, restarting LE 8, enabling CoreAudio again. This worked ONCE. It hasn't worked since.
—Disabling CoreAudio, shutting LE 8 off, SHUTTING DOWN, RESTARTING, opening LE 8, enabling CoreAudio again. This also worked ONCE. It hasn't worked since.
    —"CPU Saving Mode"
—I/O Buffer to 256, 512, and 1024 (default) (IMPORTANT?—speed of popping actually INCREASES with larger buffer?)
—I/O Safety Buffer checked and unchecked
    —Changing Recording Delay samples
—Pretty much fiddling with any of the controls
—Disabling Airport does nothing (was previously working fine with Airport running)
—Quit all applications, open up QuickTime (pro) or Audacity, and record something. It records perfectly. I go back to LE and the clicks and pops are gone, but only until I use anything with effects, then the clicks and pops return. This works SOMETIMES.
—Reset the preferences, and that has worked ONCE, and then the clicks and pops came back (albeit not as prominent, but they were still there).
—I trashed all files related to Logic and reinstalled. Worked ONCE.
—Restarting does help, but only temporarily, as soon as any pull is put on Logic, the problems return.
—Using a different USB port. I thought this was the solution because the problem shortly went away with regular use of Logic, but problem came back.
—Uninstalling Logic, Reinstalling Logic Express, same deal.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP. I have a lot of money sunk into all this equipment that's practically useless with this recording issue.

Man, I feel for you on this.
I would love to see what your pops and clicks look like in your waveform. If you can take a snapshot of it and post the pic here that might help the diagnosis.
Your audio files certainly SOUNDS like you have a clocking problem. It really sounds like your CoreAudio driver/MacPro and your USB interface are not locked up in sync - as in: which is master and which is slave? I know some interfaces include a software control panel that allows you to set the status of the interface clock to slave to the computer or to be the master. It sounds like yours doesn't come with drivers but is there any control panel for this Presonus device?
Another place to check is in Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Setup
On the left under "Properties for <your interface>" what does it say for the clock source?
Also in this panel, to the right it should have a button for "configure device". What happens when you click it? For example in my case it automatically launches my Apogee Duet Maestro control panel. In your case it might launch something similar, although I think you mention that you never installed anything, which I find strange to begin with - that this thing should just work out of the box with no driver at all.
I've struggle with w similar problem with my Apogee Duet, although nothing of this magnitude, maybe 4 or 5 clicks per 3 minutes of audio and these turn out to always be sample drops where 5-10 samples in a row are all the same in the waveform, as if my interface and computer stopped talking for a milli second. I did find that if my Apogee Duet was chosen as the default or system output in the Audio Midi Control Panel I mentioned above then the clicking was more frequent, as if choosing the audio interface for any system output caused a conflict with choosing it for Logic. I thought this was strange but you might want to investigate that further too.
At any rate, it does sound like a digital clock syncing issue to me by the sound of your audio. What effect does changing the sample rate of the recording have on the problem?
Let me know if any of this leads to anything.

  • No output when using a USB interface / real instrument or mic

Hi, I'm a Logic noob. I can get input and output from software instruments, but when I'm using my interface for my guitar or mic, I don't get any output. I can tell I'm getting input because the input bars jump around when I play, but I just can't seem to get any sound. I've searched through a couple other threads, but they seem to address changing output to hear during recording. Any advice?
    Thanks

    M-Audio Fast Track USB interface
    Creative monitors plugged into MacBook

When you select the M-Audio as audio hardware the Output goes to it!
If you want to use Mac internal audio then open the Audio Midi Setup (it's in the utility folder) and create an aggregate device.
    cheers
