Guy @ apple store said that antispyware sftwre causes probs w/ restore
on pc's and to stop running antispyware software temporarily while you re-try the update/restore program. he said that people using pc's have been having this problem & they've found that the spyware scanning software is interfering.
however, except norton antivirus, i don't think i have any anti-spyware or virus software running continually- i tend to do period scans w/ ad-aware.(i tried to run the ipod updater w/ norton turned off but it still froze up as always).
i DO have ewido security suite, hijack this and ccleaner but i think you have to run all of those to get them to work, they do not appear to be continually running...but maybe they are and I don't know how to temporarily stop them?
any advice?
Review this:
COMPUTER PREPARATION for REPAIRING, INSTALLING or UNINSTALLING
Prior to Repairing, Installing or Uninstalling ANY software package, close ALL running programs. In addition, you should temporarily disable any TSR (Terminate & Stay Resident) programs like firewalls, virus scanners, spy sweepers and the like. You will need to disable them both before uninstalling ANY software and/or before installing ANY software. Most of these TSR programs have System Tray Icons (usually located in the lower-right corner of your XP screen), that allow for an ‘exit’ or ‘quit’ or ‘shutdown’. Usually a single right-click on the icon will bring up a selection menu.
These TSR programs can impede installation of some software or create conflicts later on during operation (or lack of operation) Some anecdotal reports suggest that iTunes is affected. Based on the amount of success by folks here who have tried the Clean Install, this seems to be a good solution for a variety of iTunes operational ‘glitches’
Please note that your TSR programs will all restart upon reboot. You will not be left unprotected. This also means that you need to remember to disable them when reinstalling iTunes after rebooting.
You should only install or uninstall one software program at a time – then reboot the computer. Remember to again close all running applications and TSR programs before installing (or uninstalling) the next program.
And see 'Clean Uninstall of iTunes': http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=607650

Last weekend I went to the Apple store to replace my phone because the WiFi on my phone is nonfunctional. I need to back up to iCloud before I can replace my phone because I have information on there that needs to be saved. The worker at the Apple store said that, since I cannot connect to WiFi, I needed to plug my phone into my computer in order to back up. I went into iTunes and turned iCloud on, but my phone still will not back up to iCloud. So, I need to know exactly how to back up my iPhone to iCloud without WiFi?

should I restore from an old icloud back up from last month and see if my wifi comes on then?
Unfortunately, you can't restore an iCloud backup without using wifi so that isn't an option. -
Before I bought my new macbook pro in july the apple store said that I would get a free software upgrade when it was available (to the new os x...). Where can I go to get this??
Use this form.

Apple store said the USB SuperDrive would work as a secondary drive with my iMac.
After plugging into my USB port, I find it doesn't work. Has anybody else tried this.Which USB Superdrive are you referring to? If this is the one:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD564ZM/A/apple-usb-superdrive
it states it works with Macbook Air, Mini, or MBP with Retina display. If they told you differently, take it back for a full refund and show them their own website. -
I had to buy a new iPhone, how do I retrieve my stuff that was backed up in my iCloud account? The guy at the apple store said it could take a few days iCloud was running real slow due to so many new accounts, is that true?
No problems backing up iCloud here.
Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup

I Got my iPad air replaced because it had problems connecting to the wifi.
the guy in the Apple Store said my music library was stored in the cloud and would be easily restored.
the problem is the new iPads operating system was updated there for couldn't retrieve my stored music I was livid I have an old pc
that took me ages to get the full music library on in the first place and don't really want to go down that route again.
please if you can give me any advice to get my library on my iPad from the cloud please help.....There are two ways to sync music across your computers and devices (e.g., iPads, iPhones).
One (the "traditional" method) is to connect a cable between the PC or Mac and the device, open iTunes, and sync all or some of your music.
The cloud method requires an iTunes Match subscription ($25/year in the US, £22/year in UK). With this method, you sign up, and all your iTunes music is copied up to the cloud, where it then becomes available on all devices. If you stop the subscription you lose cloud access to the music - however, you should keep a copy of the music in its original location (e.g., the PC you started with), or download everything from the cloud to another authorized computer, to keep a local copy just in case. If you're not sure whether or not you have an iTunes Match subscription active, check your emails from Apple, or just try to sign into iTunes Match on the iPad (Settings - iTunes - iTunes Match) and see if it lets you.
"Device backup" is a separate thing from "syncing". You can back up an iPad to a computer or to iCloud. Much of your information is backed up - however, it does NOT include music. If the Apple representative told you that an iCloud backup would restore your music, he was mistaken.
I don't know if that helps you

<Email Edited By Host>Did you add or change your credit card details when downloading the app ? If so then you've probably received a temporary store holding charge, which should disappear within a few days : holding charges. Or have you made any in-app purchases within the app (what app is it) ? If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account), what shows under your purchase history ?
As these are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here, I've asked the hosts to remove your email address from the post's title. -
iPad 2 started saying no sim, exactly 1 yr old. Went to get new sim which also failed to work, seemed to be a Lot of people experiencing same problem. 3 store said apple knows its an issue. Tried everything suggested in forums, took it to apple store for full restore. Nothing helped. Apple store said I had to buy new iPad as mine was 10 days out of warranty. Please help, surely this. Can't be the case. I thought apples customer service and products were good. I am fixed into a 2 yr 3 g contract with a year to go.
Hi Debbie, it was a nightmare tried 3 new sim cards non worked. Apple refused to help as it was 10 days out of warranty and i hadnt extended the warranty I hunted Internet and asked couple of American techie guys from my geeks . It seemed to be issue with latest iOS upgrade and my problem happened after I upgraded to its 5.1.1 eventually I had to sit in Apple store with printout of all other affected users. It seemed Americans had been offered new iPads and problem was being acknowledged but not here. Although network providers said they had a lot of customers with same issue. I did get new iPad after long battle and had to pay for extended warranty. Good luck

I get the following error message when I connect a usb ethernet adapter to my new MacBook Pro: Unsupported - You cannot use an Apple USB Modem with this computer. I live where we only have dial-up and the Apple Store said this is what I need. In addition, when I connect the phone to the connecter it falls out, it will not click in.
Why are you using a usb ethernet adaptor? Just plug the modem into the usb port.

Vendors, I noticed the price of the IPAD 2 was identical at Walmart,Best Buy, Frys, and the Apple store the sales person at The Apple Store told me the main benefit to buying the IPAD 2 from the Apple Store is that they do all the initial set up of the device is this not the case for all the vendors of the IPAD2? Also as I was inside the local Apple Store they were conducting some sort of tutorial on the use of the IPAD 2( at least 40 persons in attendance) is this free?
There are no vendors on this site - just other users helping each other solve issues ..... but to answer your questions.....
Those instructional workshops are free to attend. This is copied from the information website at one of the Apple Stores in Pittsburgh, PA
Take a workshop. On the house.
Learn something new by taking a free workshop at an Apple Retail Store. Our workshops are taught by people passionate and knowledgeable about Apple products and eager to share their knowledge with you. Sign up in advance or drop in. You’ll have a great time, learn new skills, and pick up loads of tips.
If the price is the same everywhere that you have looked - I would suggest purchasing wherever you feel most comfortable. I think you might be answering your own question though when you ask if the workshops are free. You are not going to get the type of instruction - if you get any at all - from a reseller like you will get at an Apple Store. The Apple Store will set the device up for you if you want them to do so. -

When I set up my Macs, there were 2 sign-up names - 1 I created and the other was "Ghost". The Apple store says that takes up 50% of my hard drive. Can I kill "Ghost"? Do I just delete it?
Thanks for your help!Hello Blisshous,
It sounds like you have a user account named Ghost, that you want to delete all content from and remove from the computer. This article will help you do that named:
OS X Lion: Delete a user account
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3867
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Users & Groups or click Parental Controls.
Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then type an administrator name and password.
Select the user account you want to delete, and then click Delete below the account list.
Do one of the following:
Select “Save the home folder in a disk image” to save the folder as a disk image in /Users/Deleted Users/.
Select “Don’t change the home folder” to leave the home folder in /Users/.
Select “Delete the home folder” to remove it from the computer. If you want to prevent programs that read raw data from retrieving any files, select “Erase home folder securely.”
Click OK.
Keep in mind, if you remove the user and delete the data, without Time Machine you will not be able to restore any data from it in the future.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
