Millions of people got off work & turned on there computers recently to discover that Firefox is not playing any videos or flash content. Just like me, millions of people are randomly searching the internet in a futile & frustrating attempt at answers. Unfortunately, many of those people will simply stop using firefox & deem it a glitchy, unreliable browser.
This happened to me a couple days ago. I started up my computer & got a pop-up from Adobe saying that I need to update my flash player to 11.3.300.262. I've always thought of adobe as being a reliable software company, so I clicked on it with confidence that things will be working even smoother. To my horror, I relalized that right after the update, my main browser, firefox was destroyed. Then I went on the frustrating process of uninstalling, re-installing, running virus scan, researching the internet like a lost child. I said to myself, "that's why I hate updating stuff, because updates always seem to change stuff you don't want it to change & there always seems to be a problem with the updates." I usualy update software months after it releases, because microsoft & all the other software companies always seem not to test there stuff properly before releasing them. Then we have to look at a glitchy computer until the next update fixes it. Well, that is my rant. Now let me discuss the problem I found.
Problem:
What I did was, go into my firefox extentions menu & I disabled the 11.3.300.262 & I re-enabled the previous flash player. After that, everything worked perfect again. Then a today (a week later), I turned on my computer & my firefox wasn't playing any videos or flash content again. I went into my firefox extenions menu again, & I discovered that my old flash player had been deleted, & this new glitchy 11.3.300.262 had been enabled. Why did adobe feel the need to into my computer & automaticly delete & update my flash player. Now it doesn't work. THIS IS REALY FRUSTRATING!
The Issue I discovered:
"RealPlayer" is the most popular video program & it is installed on millions of computers. For some strange reason Firefox does not want its users to use Real Player. Specifically the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 15.0.2. I also discovered that my Browser Record Plugin 15.0.2 was automatically disabled when the Adobe 11.3.300.262 was automatically updated also.
- Maybe this could be because of some copyright conspiracy to keep people from downloading videos from the web.
- Maybe firefox wants people to use there download add-on instead of RealPlayers downloader.
I don't know what ther reason is. But what I do know is Nobody is going to delete there RealPlayer from there computer just to use FireFox. We can simply use Chrome or Internet explorer. I took the advise from Adobe & disabled the FireFox RealPlayer Extention. I also went into my RealPlayer preferences options, But there was no option to disable download recording from FireFox. BECAUSE I ALREADY DISABLED THE ADD-ON in FireFoxes menu.
Solution:
Step 1: Adobe needs to update all the computers with the previous flash player. That way we can choose to enable the previous flash player in our FireFox. or wait until a new update fixes the problem with firefox.
Step 2: Adobe & FireFox need to get together & go back to the drawing board. They need to create a update that actually works on computers that have Real Player installed on them. I don't care which company does the update. All I care about is if it works. Thank You.
Oh yea, Im running FireFox 13.0.1, Windows 7, HP computer, Real Player is up to date.

I was able to duplicate this issue on my Windows 7 laptop as follows:
     1) Completely uninstall FlashPlayer (using your tool) as well as Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Maintenance Service (used Windows 7 - uninstall from Control Panel). Please note that I checked the box that said "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" to ensure that Firefox was completely gone from my laptop.
     2) I then went out to the Firefox website and downloaded the "Firefox Setup 13.0.1.exe" app to my laptop. I ran this app to install Firefox.
     3) I then went to the following website http://www.ishmael.org.uk/karaoke02.php as I know that this URL uses Flash Player (obviously you can go to any URL that uses Flash Player - I'm just letting you know which one I used). I then clicked on the icon on this page to install Flash Player.
Once the install was completed, the URL stops responding and appears to be locked up (although it will occassionally hiccup and display portions of the page and then lock up again). You will eventually get a pop-up notice from Firefox that has the header "Warning: Unresponsive script" and says the following:
     A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to to see of the script will complete. Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:6551
Selecting "Stop script" will get Firefox working until you hit another page that uses Flash Player.
To ensure that the above URL is not the culprit, I used one from your website http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html and had the same results.

Windows 7 shorter battery life, I think I found the cause!

I bought a new 2011 MBP 13" i5 last week with the intention of running Windows 7 x64 on it, only to find that the battery life was quite a bit lower than OSX. First of all, the 13" only has ONE Intel HD3000 graphics card, so don't bring up the inability to switch between two. I've been working on it for days trying to bring W7's battery life on par with OSX which I managed to do through power plans, disabling components I don't use such as Infrared, SD card, Bluetooth etc. I also disabled system sounds because I found that while Windows 7 does disable the sound card when not being used, it only does so after about a minute. So if you click a folder, the sound card powers up to make the click sound then stays powered for about a minute until turning off again. Every time you click a folder or whatever and it makes a sound, the card is going to power on for a minute. OSX disables its sound card after a few seconds, obviously saving more power than waiting 1 minute.
I have been using a program called BatteryBar which tells you the battery's real time discharge rate. It started off at about ~9500mW of power consumption with a fresh install of W7, and after my tweaking I got it down to about ~7900mW at idle which is pretty **** close to OSX's.
The Big Problem
After I got the consumption down to 7900mW at idle, all was fine and dandy. The problem arises when you put the system to sleep and then wake it up again, the consumption at idle won't go below 10,000mW!
After putting the system to sleep and waking it up, something is becoming a power hog and the total power consumption won't go below 10,000mW. That shaves about 2 hours off the battery compared to the previous 7900mW at idle, pretty much exactly what people have been reporting! It's not the backlit keyboard or the brightness, I have made sure of that. It doesn't appear to be the graphics card which I have set to the maximum power saving mode, and have even tried re-applying those settings after waking it up. I've tried disabling wifi and re-enabling it, make sure everything is set to power saving modes.. but it still won't go below 10,000mW until I reboot it.
If you reboot the system, the consumption goes back to the previous ~7900mW at idle, put it to sleep and wake it up and bam 10,000mW+ again. It's replicable every time. I am trying to figure out exactly which component is causing it... but it's not easy.

Every review over the years by major sites (Ars, Anandtech, Computerworld) regarding Windows Vista and 7 on Apple MacBooks have all stated that battery life was reduced but no one did measurements.
Do you enable and use hibernation instead?
Also Intel has a new feature but one which I think Apple has been using under OS X.
Seems like anything is going to rely on the SMC firmware.
Macs do not have the same fan control and thermal sensor integration they have under Windows.
Similar case for graphic card performance.
So I think there are multiple issues and a few out of our hands.

Think I found the fix for no downloading windows updates for HP Printers problem.

I thought I'd post a new topic here. I've figured out whats gone wrong with the windows 10 updates. Someone wrote about it in his thread (I forget the thread url though), and it worked. I've done this on 2 PC's.. W7 to W10, and W8.1 to W10. What you have to do is; 1. Go to device manager. Look down the list for Printers. Open up that arrow and see if you're printer is listed there? If it's listed as Unknown Device then; 2. Go to the HP website and find the driver for your printer on there. Download it through the website / program as though you was installing your printer for the first time i.e. it should check the connection of you're printer during this process. 3. Now you have your printer driver re-installed. Go back to Device manager and check that it now appears listed by the correct name in the Printer section. 3a. If there are other unknown devices besides your printer listed, you need to delete the other unknown devices, leaving only your printer listed. 4. Go back to windows update and retry a windows update (it asks you to install the old failed ones first, so try it, expecting failure, then press the retry button. 5. If all went well, it shouldn't list anymore updates, and you're done!

If you have others, then be careful how you fix them.
Most of us have gotten rid of all of them using the combo updates.
Now, if only it wouldn't take 5 minutes to verify permissions ..

If you run into the "another installation" message even after the reboot of the PC (which is an excellent idea by HTP ProXy), reregistering your Windows Installer Service is worth a try.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another reinstalll.

HT201441 iTunes is requesting to activate my iphone through an apple ID, which apparently isn't mine, after working perfectly. I hardly found the guy that i bought the device from, and he cold blooded tells me that he no longer uses that ID?!?!?!

But as i see, you misunderstood my concern.
No I don’t buy and sell phones, I’m just a regular guy, that bought an iPhone from a guy that I know, which sold his phone for his reasons, which may be economical.
And so on, I kept using this phone, until I’ve decided to upgrade it to iOS7, and when the phone upgraded it’s software to newer version such as iOS7, the phone restarted, and in order to activate the device it requests it’s previous owner’s Apple ID and password, which it seems that he left in iCloud or something similar.
So what I did, I hardly found the guy that I’ve bought the phone from, and I thought I was lucky, I kindly asked him for his Apple ID, so I could activate my iPhone, and he cold blooded said to me that he forgot what kind of apple ID he was using, and even if he knew, I wouldn’t definitely remember the password he said…
And I didn’t knew what to do, so I went to the different Mobile stores to ask for the solution, no one didn’t had a clue od my concern, until one of them replied back to me and said “If you give me 100 EURO’s, I might activate your phone”
So today I’ve directed my issue to Apple Support Community, asking them if they ever imagined that something like this can happen to a regular guy like me, and if they did, I kindly request for the solution, but if they didn’t then how come a brand like Apple didn’t thought about this.

Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If you iPod is defective, within warranty and not abused, Apple will exchange it at no cost.

I think I found a problem with the calculator application.

I'm a south korean highschool student and I think I found a problem with calculator application. I use iPod touch 4th generation with iOS 5.0.1. I was playing with calculator app and I found out that 0.1!(factorial) is 0.951350769866873. This can't be right bacause factorial calculation can only be definrd whan n is natural number or 0(in n!). I want apple to correct this error.

It's a built-in app, so it can't be deleted nor downloaded from the store. If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Camera being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I think you mean "there is only iWork.com". iWork is the name of the 3 software programs. iWork.com is a web site.
You can use iWork.com till 1 August. (Apple is shutting down iWork.com from 1 August.) After that date you'll have to use iCloud, though it's available now to use. See Re: How to upload a document to iCloud from Mac?
NB This process is a bit clumsy. Apple have said they'll be improving iCloud in OS X Mountain Lion. But this new version of OS X won't be available till end of summer (or winter if you're in the other hemisphere).
Note also that iCloud only syncs documents between your devices. It doesn't share documents with others. If you need to do this you should consider another service like DropBox, Google Drive or Microsoft Skydrive.

Is there a way to get around having to do that every morning when people log into this computer? I am willing to write a batch script if someone could give me direction or mess with the registry if need be....

I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR THE FIRMWARE UPDA

I'm sure most all of you have had this same problem I <strike>had:</strike> When you try to install the firmware update it says 'Plug in your player'!!? A very frusterating message mainly when your player is CLEARLY plugged in. So here's how I came about my solution!?I endlessly searched on this support forum, and I found that several people had found the solution several different ways!? Then other people have tried other's solutions, and it worked for some, but not all!?The forums have obviously pointed the problem at the computer, and not the player. They are halfly right, the problem isn't what you do on the player, but it's what they do to the player. I figured that there was something that the succesfull posters?did in the mean-time between posts that the unsuccesfull posters didn't do. It also didn't make sense, like others said was the problem, that it was Windows Media Player!? They said that you needed to roll it back, downgrade, to WMP 9 or 0. This made absolutely no sense to me because when I brought up WMP , and 0 for that matter, it recognized 'creative ZEN touch' under the 'synch' tab. After I found the solution, sorry for writing so long about how instead of just what it is: I just wanted to make it clear that this is the solution, I told my dad what it was!?He said that it made perfect sense because when my older brother tried to upgrade his firmware on his Dell MP3 Player, a message said that:It must be fully charged!?Beore you mess up your computer deleting all of these files and waste your time, try plugging your player into the wall at the same time it's plugged into the computer!? I Think This Is The Weirdest Trash Behavior...

Hey guys,
I have came across this weird thing about the Trash. I have created a Partition (FAT-32) which share the same harddisk with my Mac. And few months back I deleted a file along with the associated folder in this partition (Volume name = "SHARED") and now the file is "FOREVER" sticked to the trash can and I tried many ways to get rid of it but every time failed.
Under frustration and disappointment, I go to FORMAT the Mac drive and reinstall Snow Leopard... and... well, all my systems files, user preference files, data, etc are gone.... BUT... this file is STILL inside the trash.
One thing I discover is that, the file seems no longer in the trash location:
/Volumes/SHARED/.Trashes
because when I run this command:
sudo rm -r /Volumes/SHARED/.Trashes
The system response with this:
rm: /Volumes/SHARED/.Trashes/501/Compulsive HoardingWebMary1/Hoarding, the Hoarder and why itÕs an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.txt: No such file or directory

I suspect the "file pointer" of the Trash is corrupted or for unknown reason it was not cleared (not even after I formated). Also, I can't restore the file; and also cannot preview the file. It was supposed to be a txt file but the icon looks like something else.
Please help me as I am really fed up with this. My last resort maybe to write all "ZERO" into the harddisk, Ultimate shot will be to write "ZERO" for 7 times during format and reinstall again... But, It will take me days to finish it I guess... please help me. Thanks a lot.

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.
