GW Client 2012 FTF 115151 and external IP in caching mode

Hi
Could it be that in this FTF the Client does not use the external IP Information?
Since the customer has updated he can't connect to groupwise when connecting over internet to the GW Caching Mailbox. He can connect to the online Mailbox from the same location.
Sould we open an SR for this?
Thanks in advance
Elmar

Hi Laura,
Because you use on the internal ip and the external ip the same DNS Name it works.
In the log the customer sees that it tries to contact nagwnameserver, ngwnameserver1 and the internal Servername, but not the external one.
This worked until we updated to the FTF Client.
Now the question is if this is already reproduced and perhaps already fixed?

Elmar

  • Best practise for installing patches for SCCM Client 2012 (Both x86 and x64)) - OSD and Client Push Installation

    Hi All,
What is best practice for automatic installing of SCCM 2012 client Patches
(using Patch switch) during installation of SCCM 2012 clients? The challenge is that now there are two versions of clients and updates (x86 and x64).
    I need information for:
    OSD
    Client Push Installation
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,

Not everything that can be or is supported or not supported is documented (or ever can be):
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj643252.aspx
Your expectation here needs to be adjusted. No one recommended contacting support. William just mentioned that *if* you have an issue and needed to contact support, they may decline to help you because you've done something explicitly unsupported.
For clientpatch, here's the specific documentation noting it as unsupported:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2009/04/08/automatically-applying-hotfixes-to-the-configuration-manager-2007-client-during-installation.aspx
Additionally, I've also been in contact with the sustained engineering folks responsible for the CUs and they've reinforced the statement.
What can happen? Who knows? Microsoft does not test against unsupported configurations and features -- that's the definition of unsupported. It's not tested so no one really knows. They did find a couple of explicit issues (outlined in that post above) so
know that at least those exist and probably more since it is, as mentioned, abandoned code.
Why does it matter what can happen though? If the folks who write and support the code tell you shouldn't do it, you are simply asking for problems by doing it. Ultimately, you're asking a question that has no defined answer (except "bad"/unsupported things)
that really doesn't matter if you follow the explicit guidance. If you don't, as William points out, that's a risk for you take and an answer for you to discover.

  • How to configure AD on windows 2012 server for Exchange 2013 internal and external email flow

    Dear Experts,
I have to configure exchange 2013 on Windows server 2012 STD. Company has registered Static IP addresses and can get the MX record pointing to any of this Static IP.
The registered domain name is e.g.  contoso.com.
    a. What should I use as domain name on AD? contoso.com or contoso.local
    b. Is it recommended to have two different servers  for AD and Exchange?
    c. What should be my connector settings for mail flow?
    d. how can I set 2 email servers in company for load balancing?

    Hi,
a, I suggest use contoso.com as domain name. It is convenient to add urls into our certificate for internal and external mail flow.
    b, Recommended that installing AD
and Exchange Server on two separate
Servers. If Exchange Server downed unfortunately, it can prevent AD server from crushing at the same time.

  • Exchange 2010 all mail clients with internal cached and internal non-cached mode users having connection status issues, login prompt -- external is fine either way

    Hello,
I'm seeing an issue that started this past Monday with no recent change to our environment.
External Outlook Anywhere users and Mobile users, OWA users are unaffected.
Internal Users are affected when using Outlook of any version, 2010 or 2013.
-Internal Users normally log into their workstation with their ad credentials, domain joined machines. Outlook opens without credentials prompting ideally.
    1 . Using Cached Mode:
    a. Login Prompts, slowness - Since Monday, users are getting prompted to login. The prompt goes away after logging in at startup. It is also causing high CPU
    on the workstations.
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office doesn't work. I can, however complete auto-setup for a new user, so autodiscover is not completely down for internal users.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows connecting status on highlighted entry below without ever establishing connection (just goes away).
The outlook icon in the system tray says "Outlook is requesting data from the server":
    2. Using Non-cached mode
    a. No Login Prompt at startup, business as usual
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office works fine. Autodiscover is fine.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows normal except, it has "casarray URL, then status is referral" it seams to flicker this constantly then go away intermittently.
    d. Main issue in non-cached mode is, sometimes a user will log into windows, open outlook and it will not open and says "server is unavailable. Retry, work offline, or cancel" I can try re-opening, same message.
Only after logging out of windows, logging back in, I can get back into outlook. This is not every time, or consistent with specific users, but random.
    3. Lync Pop up  for credentials often, though entering the password.
URLs are correct. Autodiscover, EWS, etc.
Already tried bypassing our loadmaster load balancer with host files on clients. same issue regardless of casarray node.
Not sure what is going on.
    Josh

You have a hybrid configuration with Office 365, right?  You didn't provide this valuable piece of information.
In Exchange Online PowerShell run this command:
    Get-OrganizationConfig | FL PublicFoldersEnabled
If the value is "Remote" then users with Exchange Online mailboxes are looking to on-premises public folders.  Be sure that you have legacy pubic folder interoperability properly configured.

  • External monitor will not sleep using 2012 MacBook Air and HDMI adapter

I am running a HP 27xi (27" display) using the apple thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, and using a HDMI cable.
    ISSUE:
I run my 2012 macbook air in "clamshell mode", and solely use the 27" display, which works great. Problem, is when the macbook goes to put the display to sleep, or sleep for the laptop, the display starts to go into power save mode, then flips back on... goes back into power save mode, repeats forever. I called HP, and they said the HDMI signal is not being turned off, hence why the screen keeps going ON, then power save, then repeat. If I shutdown the laptop, then the monitor goes off just fine.
Anyone else ran into an issue with an external monitor NOT going to sleep when plugged into the HDMI adapter? Someone suggusted that I purchase a DVI-D adapter, and use that cable... but that sounds ridiculous. The HDMI adapter should absolutely work.
My temporary fix is to turn off the monitor everytime (if i remember) otherwise the display is in this never ending loop of trying to shut down.
And yes, the Macbook Air is 100% up to date with updates. DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!
    Joe

    Hello Joe,
I definitely understand your concern regarding your external display not going to sleep and endlessly looping into power save mode when your MacBook Air is asleep.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to the internal display.  The following steps specifically stands out to me for the situation you are experiencing:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:

  • Internal and external switches on server 2012 r2

    this is driving me nuts.
I have a vm with an internal and external switch.
I am trying to get backups to route to the host machine using the internal switch only.
I've gone all over priorities and the routes are all fine but the data will constantly go over the external switch.
If i disable external switch traffic goes over internal switch just fine.
I've read about the automatic detection of least cost routing on the internal switch but just can not get it to run correctly.
    please help

    FYI

Hi Susan.  I hope there's a better 'fix' coming to replace this "uninstall the updates, restore, then reinstall the updates after the restore".  This kind of workaround requires that all of us remember that there's a problem
with KB3023562 and KB3004375 from now until the end of WS2012E.  Not sure I'll remember this 6 months from now when the problem crops up during a restore.   -:(

  • Server 2012 - Can't access external website from internal domain with same name. Tried everything.

    Hello All.
I have read loads of forums and tried numerous fixes and configurations, but nothing seems to work and I am extremely frustrated at this point.
I have a client where I setup Server 2012 Standard with Exchange 2013. After reading best practice documentation for DNS naming and reasons not to use ".LOCAL" I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet
Website now has the same name.
When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this
directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
I should also mention, the website is hosted by an ISP and not locally.
I added a "www" Host record in the Forward Lookup Zone, I have added the url and ip address to the Hosts file on a client pc (Windows 7) and even tried setting up Split-Brains DNS. Nothing seems to work.
Running a Tracert takes me to the correct public ip address of the website, but I keep getting this 403 error.
I am so sick and tired of this issue that iI am at the point of backing up the Exchange and re-rolling the entire server with the ".local" DNS domain name. I have a mirror setup in a VMWare environment and simply using "rendom" to rename
the domain seems to cause new issues with Exchange connectivity.
Any pointers and help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Hentie Loots

I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet Website
    now has the same name.
This ends up with a split-DNS stup for internal and external resolution which requires extra administration tasks and attention from the administrators.
When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view

This means that you are able to reach the Website but it is responding with the access denied error message. That should be checked on the middleware level so if this is IIS running then I would recommend asking them in IIS forum: http://forums.iis.net/
If this is a Website that is completely managed by your ISP then I would recommend checking with them.

  • Lync Implementation with different internal and external domain sync

    Hello Experts,
Having Windows 2012r2 with Lync 2013 frontend and Edge 2012 server on Win2012. Internal domain name is test.local and Internet domain name is : tgroup.com. Internally all the clients are able to sync with frontend
server using [email protected] or [email protected] Internal CA and External Digicert works fine. But only problem is with external clients who want to communicate through edge server.
Edge server has 3 LAN ip address (nat with public IP), 10.10.10.2, 10.10.10.3, 10.10.10.4 and another Internal network interface which has ip 10.10.20.3
which uses that to communicate with front-end.
How to achieve this ?  We dont have reverse proxy configured and we have only two servers.

The reverse proxy is used to publish URL's like the meet and dialin url, the address book url and the lync mobile client (smart phones and tablets) urls. This doesn't impact the external desktop user access as thats via the edge server. There is more to
it than that but for the sake of keeping this simple lets stick to that for now.
As far as SIP domains go. Think of your Lync users as having a SIP address similar to email addresses. You wouldn't have a user with an internal email address but with a different external email address. In fact best practice is to have the Lync SIP address
    match the email address.
My reccomendation is to use the ttgoup.com as a sip domain and not the test.local

  • 2012 TS Gateway and UDP

I have a 2012 TS gateway for remote access for our Session Host server.
The TS gateway is on the LAN and the Firewall forwards request from our external IP on to the TS Gateway, in the past 2008 and R2 we have just had 80 and 443 open  and it works fine, as it still does on 2012.
I want to enable the 2012 UDP option 3391 so I asked our ISP to also open the UDP port 3391 both ways.
Now RDS doesn't work properly, I can see in the TS Gateway monitoring that clients are connected http and usually 2 UDP connections, The Client when you click on the connection button we get connection is good or excellent and UDP is enabled.
From the Client end the best way to explain the experience is things will work smoothly for a while then hang if you try to resize windows it takes a while to do, what is really interesting is if you set of a video in a portion of the screen this will continue
to stream ok whilst the rest fails to redraw correctly.  Also interestingly if you move the Windows Media Player around the video moves around flawlessly but the surround stays where it was originally.
Turn off UDP and things go back to normal, I would like UDP to work because on constrained connections the experience isn't brilliant.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong should I ask for established related through the firewall? is there anything I can look at to see how I can improve this.
If I force an internal client to connect to the Gateway the UDP experience is absolutely fine.
Its a bit frustrating that I can only test this issue remotely.
Any help would be appreciated, as the information on the internet is scanty
    Thanks Gordon.

    Hi everyone
This is funny, but just the same I experienced yesterday.
The same issues i have now since i opened 3391 ono my firewall, to provide UDP connections.
    My 3 Server Setup:
    RDGW, RDCB, RDWEB (2012)
    RDSH1 (2012)
    RDSH2 (2012)
I cannot exatly say when the disconnections are happening, but they are unreliable.
When i block UDP Port on my firewall everything is normal again.
It cannot be a network issue, i can reproduce this problem on different vSphere platforms.

As i understand, there is no need to configure them.

  • AutoDiscover working Internally and Externally?

What is AutoDiscover and how it works in Exchange 2007 & 2010. Internally and Externally?
    Aditya Mediratta

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge,in Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010, Autodiscover is located in CAS server and helps Outlook client automatically find multiple settings including EWS URL and so on.
And there are four connectivity methods for Autodiscover connectivity: SCP,DNS, local XML file and SRV records. Internal Outlook clients will try  the four methods while external clients will try the latter three methods.
Except with the above articles, here are more references you can refer to:

  • Delivery report shows status of Pending for external address. Email sent to both internal and external addresses.

We have an Exchange 2013 on-premise server and seem to have an issue with emails sent to internal and external users at the same time.
The issue came to light because someone sent an email to 44 recipients, of which one was internal. None of the external recipients received the email. I checked the delivery report in the EAC and found the internal email marked as 'Delivered' and all of
the external ones marked as 'Pending'. I checked the queues and there were none. I did some testing and sent an email to just one of the external addresses on the list, it arrived. I tried sending the email again to all of the recipients, the external ones
all showed 'Pending'. I tried it again, but this time excluded the internal email address and all of the 43 external emails were immediately delivered.
So it seems that the issue only arises when we are sending to both internal and external addresses.
I then tried a test email to one internal address and one external address. The Delivery report says that the internal address was delivered immediately, while the external address is 'Pending' and gives more information saying: 'Message delivery is taking
longer than expected. There may be system delays. For more information, contact your helpdesk.'. To add further mystery to this, the email was actually delivered.
    So, I have two concerns:
First is seems that some emails sent both internally and externally are only arriving internally. This is a huge problem because I don't know how many have been affected. There may be many lost emails we don't know about.
Second, it looks like I can't trust the delivery report. It says pending for some emails which didn't arrive, but it also says pending for some which did arrive. That is no good at all.
For info the server is running Windows Server 2012. I have run a Microsoft Update to check if there are any to apply and the only Exchange one is a spam filter update, which I doubt has any bearing but I will apply when I get chance.

    Hi Neil,
According to the description, I find a related KB on Exchange 2010:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2694474?wa=wsignin1.0
It has the similar situation as yours.
This issue occurs because a function in a message tracking component tries to obtain the information for the recipient instead of the external recipient.
Please try to upgrade to the latest Exchange update to check whether this issue can be solved.
Also please check whether Throttling has been set.
Please run "Get-TransportService | fl" to check the MaxOutboundConnections parameter value.
    More details to see:

  • SharePoint 2013 - Office Web Apps - Internal and External Use

I have successfully installed SharePoint 2013 and Office Web Apps on Azure VMs inside an Azure Virtual Network (IaaS model). Everyting is working well. However, my testing has shown that external users and internal users can't use Office Web Apps at the
    same time.
Office Web Apps, installed on its own vm, accomodates an external and internal URL quite well. However, SharePoint 2013 appears to only allow one setting for WOPI Zone, either internal or external but not both. I've set the WOPI zone to Internal-HTTPS (Set-SPWOPIZone
–Zone “internal-https”). OWA works just fine if accessed from inside the Azure Virtual Network. However, if I try to access from outside the Virtual Network, from the Internet, Office Web Apps fails. The exact oppisite is also true. I can set WOPI Zone to
External-HTTPS and accessing from the Internet works fine, but accessing inside the Virtual Network fails.
Am I missing something? I, obviously, want Office Webs Apps to function properly for both internal and external users simultaneously.
I appreciate any help anyone can provide here.
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
To have both the use of Internet and Internal available to your end-users, you first need to configure AAM setting. Open Central Administration > Application Management > Configure alternate access mappings. Let's say there is an existing web application
named http://sharepoint and my end-users from local network are able to access it using the URL http://sharepoint (root site collection). Here you need to add the Internet URL by select the web application and click Edit Public URLs. Add the Internet domain
to the web application, e.g http://sharepoint.abc.com. You don't necessarily have to edit binding setting in IIS. Before continuing next steps, make sure you are able to access http://sharepoint.abc.com from the Internet while being able to access http://sharepoint
    from local network (aka Internal).
On the machine where Office Web App (OWA) Server 2013 is installed, open PowerShell to add OWA module and use the following command to re-create a new OWA server farm if you've completed configuring it previously.
    New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl "http://owa" -ExternalUrl "http://owa.abc.com" -EditingEnabled.
In this case, I'm not using SSL certificate to encrypt data over the Internet. You can use Internet-public IP of the OWA server like -ExternalUrl "http://198.xxx.xxx.xx". Add CertifcateName parameter if you want to use whether CA-issued certificate
    or self-signed certificate.
On your SharePoint machine, you need to re-bind all WFE machines to WAC farm using the cmdlet New-SPWOPIBinding. Next, you need to set the WOPI zone for both internal and external.
    Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "external-http"
Note: I'm not all using certificate in my guidance. But the steps to have it configured is just to add more parameter.
I've recently successfully deployed OWA multi-server farm for both internal and internet uses for two big clients. In real-world scenario, ideally OWA should be published through firewall (Forefront UAG, TMG, F5...etc). Please let me know if you still have
issues after following my steps. My email: [email protected]

  • Front End internal and external web services

    Hi all,
Can someone explain the purpose of internal and external web services URL in front end server. what does it do and what is it used for? and why the external traffic goes directly to it and not through reverse proxy?
    Thanks,

They're for multiple purposes.  Address books, autodiscovery, meeting urls, mobile clients, etc.  There are two because they respond slightly differently based on whether the client is internal or external.  External traffic should always reach
it through a reverse proxy, that reverse proxy should proxy traffic received on port 443 to port 4443 on your front end pool.

  • Viewing footage on desktop and external monitor at same time

Maybe i'm missing something, but is there any way to view footage simultaneously on your desktop monitor and your external broadcast monitor (via blackmagic output)?
Right now when I enable mercury transmit, the viewer within speedgrade goes to grey and I can only see the footage on the external monitor.  This makes it impossible to draw custom shapes around objects (rather than just use the stock circle masks) which I use quite a bit...I would like to have the view on both monitors like I have in resolve.
If this isn't possible, is there a quick shortcut to toggle mercury transmit on and off without having to go into the settings menu?
Any help would be appreciated...I am enjoying a lot of the controls that are in speedgrade but there are some workflow hurdles that I need to get over in order to be able to use effectively in client sessions from time to time.
    Thanks!

I waited expectantly and patiently  for Adobe to enable Mercury Transmit  in SG and to be able to make use of my BM card and external monitor.
O.K we got it in CC2014.1...but it is either Mercury Transmit or  Dual Display!
I think this half-arsed solution  is an absolute fail that we cant use desktop and an  external monitor simultaneously.
Has anyone on the SG team actually been in a real world CC and Grade Suite?
At least we got consistency with the blue color scheme if not how Mercury Transmit works across the suite of apps.
