GW8 POA Repairs Database every time it starts

I have Groupwise 8 (fully patched) running on a Netware 6.5 server (fully patched). Every time the POA restarts at midnight, it checks the Guardian database. Then at 26 seconds past midnight, it gives me a data base repaired message.
When I attempt to do an analyze/fix using the standalone GWCHECK, I get an 8201 on Guardian. Here is the exact error:
STRUCTURAL VERIFICATION of system databases
STRUCTURAL VERIFICATION of database ngwguard.db
- Error checking file Guardian, IO_ACCESS_DENIED (0x8201)
- Guardian was successfully recovered from backup
This process takes 1 1/2 hours to recover the database. I abort the process as soon as I get the 8201, but it takes 1 hours to stop.
I do know some things which are incorrect. My ngwguard.fbk is dated some time in 2004. My ngwguard.rfl is 24 meg. And my GUARDBAK ngwguard.fbk is also 2004. I know these things are wrong. When I investigated the 8201 error, it indicated that it could be because the owner does not exist. Well, that was true. The owner of some of my files was .[supervisor], this system is very old & has been updated thru many versions of netware & groupwise. I changed everything to .admin from .[supervisor] across the entire mail volume. I was hoping that this would solve the problem, but it does not. Something is still putting out messages owned by .[supervisor]. I have recently upgraded all of my nlm's to be owned by .admin as well as the groupwise software directory & the public directory. And yet, the new messages are arriving owned by .[supervisor].
I am not sure what the sequence of events is in GWCHECK. So, I am not sure where the analyze/fix is getting an error or what is causing the error. I see no other errors other than the one above.
I have several other NGWGUARD files which I am not sure of their usage. Following is a copy of the directory.

As you can see. I have a .FBN & a .FBO file. The .FBN seems to be used during the GWCHECK.

I dont know if the ownership by TCI_COMM.tci (server name) is causing the problem or not. So, I changed the ownership to .admin.tci & I ran another GWCHECK. Still an 8201 error as above. So, it did not help. The files owned by Maureen.tci are a result of the GWCHECK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am attempting to solve these problems in anticipation of moving to a windows server.

Yes. I am looking at 4 files only. This may be a mistake. But it is all that I can glean thru TIDS, Forums, White papers etc.
NGWGUARD.DB - was open by no one. Now it is open by connection 0 which is the server & it isn't locked. But when I did your test, no one had it open. My Virus protecion is set not to scan DB files.
NGWGUARD.FBK - not opened.
NGWGUARD.RFL - not opened
NGWCHECK.DB - not opened
What I really need to know is what file is GWCHECK complaining about. It just says Guardian. This isn't helpful. I interpret Guardian to be NGWGUARD.DB. This file is being updated every day. My gut says this is the .FBK which is a problem or the backup FBK on GUARDBAK. This is the file which is not being updated. The FBK should have the DB at its last known 'safe' state. I would assume that this means that it should have a date of this morning at midnight. Other mail systems have both the .DB and .FBK set to midnight of the same day. The RFL is being updated on my system. I can't find any documentation on what the GWCHECK process is. The error occurs immediately. If I were doing the structural analyze/fix, I would try to create a new FBK file (this may be my FBN file as it is updated as GWCHECK is processing). I would then read the RFL file and update the new FBK file. At the end of this process, I should have a new FBK file which would be copied into a new DB file making both of these files in sync. My RFL should be purged/reduced/recreated as all of the messages have been incorporated into the FBK file. I don't think it is my RFL file because the error happens immediately. I would think that the 8201 would not happen immediately if the problem were the RFL file. It would happen at the end of the process when it was trying to empty the file. I do have an FBO file. This file is dated 1/1/2004. Maybe gwcheck it trying to purge this file & is getting the 8201 & when it can't, it creates the FBN file. I will try to rename this file & then rerun the gwcheck analyze/fix for my po. This file happens to have delete inhibit & purge immediate attributes set. I have cleared them will try again. Will update after the result.

  • Every time i start iPhoto I must repair library. Is there a permanent fix?

looking to fix a problem in iphoto 11. Every time i start it says there are inconsistencies with my library. Do I want to repair? What is the problem? Is there a permanent fix?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    Here you go: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
There are three steps so make sure you follow all of them. They are:
remove iTunes and everthing related to it
    verify everything is really removed
    reinstall iTunes.

  • Why is my library being repaired every time I start Aperature?

    Hi,
A while back, I suddenly started to get a wraning everytime I started Aperture 3, telling me that my library needs repairing. This happens now every time I start Aperture, and the rapair process takes ages (10-15 mins). Anyone know WHY? and how to solve this issue?
    Kind Regards
    Arne

    Anyone?
    Arne,
are you holding down cmd-option while starting the Aperture Application or while double clicking the Library? Try double clicking the Library, while holding down cmd-option.
If possible, turn on the "Activity Window" after you launch Aperture  (Window -> Show Activity). With luck you can spot what Aperture is trying so desparately to repair. You may have one single corrupted image in the Library that Aperture is trying to repair. Then the problem could be solved by deleting this corrupted image.
Does Aperture work well, if you create a new, empty library?
File -> Switch to Library -> New
If you even have problems with a new, empty library, try to reinstall Aperture.
But if you can create a new library, and Aperture seems to work well with this Library, and if you have enough free disk space, you could try to clone your library by importing it into a new library, either by exporting several smaller libraries from your current library and then importing successively these smaller libraries into the new, empty library, or importing all at once.

Every time I start or close Firefox , Avira reports a malware problem. "A Virus or unwanted program 'HTML/Frame.tzt.3' was found in file 'C:\Documents and settings \Diane.DESKTOP\...\0CAEBd04'. "
I believe this began when I upgraded to Firefox 8.I have tried reinstalling Firefox 8, going back to Firefox 3.6, opening in safemode. Avira removes the file but warns again with each opening and closing. The warning does not appear with any other program or with IE. I am running XP.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

For the past two weeks, every time I start up my computer I'm asked for an iCloud login. I've never used iCloud and I'm not likely to. How do I get this login to stop automatically showing up? I'm using an iMac G5 with OS 10.9.4.

One more quick thing first. Hold the SHIFT key this time as you startup and see if that gets you any further (this is called 'Safe Mode' by the way). I'm not too confident that this will work in your case but it's worth a try. If it boots up, go into Disk Utility and repair permissions.
If it doesn't, you're going to have to do an Archive & Install which will install a fresh copy of the OS over the top BUT keep all your users, files and apps in place.

I upgraded to itunes 10.7.0.21 and now every time itunes starts it crashes within a few seconds! I have uninstalled and re-installed and I get the same! I am running windows 7 64bit. The error window sais the fault is " KERNELBASE.dll". I also installed on a test PC that has a trail version of Windows Web Server 2008 R2 and the exact same thing happens...
Now I have no PC to sync to and no music/movies.... Any ideads??
    Many thanks...

I had the same problem.  New iPhone 5, had to install iTunes 10.7 on windows 7 64 bit.  The install worked, but it crashed immediatly after startup (no window, nothing.)  I tried repairing the install, and still nothing.  When I read the post above, I saw that it was Quicktime related, and remembered I was also prompted to upgrade Quicktime too, which I chose NOT to do.  So I went back and upgraded quicktime.. and VOILA.. it WORKS.  iTunes now runs, and I'm in the middle of restoring my old iPhone to my new one.  (fingers crossed)

The computer keeps asking for my password for Yahoo. I already gave it but it asks over and over.  This happens every time I start using the computer.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

Every time i start my MacBook Air i get the spinning wheel and have to soft boot (shift, control, option, power) it three or four time s before it starts. It has only been over the last week or so I also found Safari will not load up and tyou have too open then shut from the drop down then restart it to get a page, any help pleas?

    Do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall
Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

  • IPhoto repairs library every time ?!

    Hi iPhoto specialists
Every time I start up iPhoto I get the message "... inconsistency in .. library.... Repair ... ":
I already started iPhoto with the cmd-option keys and rebuilt the library and reset the permissions... several times. The problem remains.
I have MBP / Lion 10.7.2 with all the latest updates for all apps.
Any help suggestions? This is really annoying.

I had to install iPhoto Library Manager and (re)create a new library. That took a few hours (over night). And now it seems to work. No more inconsistencies messages. iPhoto starts up right away.
Actually, I only have - or better had - this issue on my MBP, but not on my iMac 2010. Both are running the exact same versions for the apps and OS X.
Strange that we have to resort to a 3rd party software for one of Apple's workhorses.

  • How to prevent from starting oracle server every time i start windows?

I have winXP professinonal, and i would like to know how to prevent from starting oracle server every time i start windows. Because it really slows starting the windows. Thanks

The scripts above seems to work as intended with no errors and do indeed stop my five XE services. I created the second script to start them and they do indeed start and are listed as "Started" in the Services panel aferwards.
My XE installation has the 5 services set up to start automatically.
I was happy to find the script above because I did not know the starting order and using the XE shortcuts for "Stop Database" and "Start Database" just seemed to cause sqlplus to receive ORA-12514 "listener does not currently know of service..." after trying to use them to restart the database. Using the scripts above seems to leave me with a different error.
I am pretty sure I eliminated my 9i listener and it is no longer listed in my Services panel or the registry.
Restarting the laptop does start the services correctly, and now I am on to a more pressing JDBC error, so if I get a chance to use the script again, I will post my results. Thanks.
