GW8 SP3 Feedback on NetWare

Maybe someone at Novell is reading these posts ....
Sorry guys but this SP is not your best effort - fortunately, these are
just findings from my test system
Where to start ....
1. Get numerous C00F (password passed in open call does not match
errors on various users (on this system all 5 users show this system
randomly)
Full Top down re-build does not help
Re-starting the POA seems to fix it for a day
2.GW Install does not recognize NWC mapped drives on Windows 7 - have
to map the drives using NET USE .... and CIFS
3. POA stop responding to external POP login requests via GWIA ... have
to re-start POA
4. POA does not process system maintenance jobs - re-sending the
request just generates a Duplicate request message
Deleting the NGWcheck.db does not help
System Info
NW 6.5 SP8 with patches
GW 8.03
Windows 7 SP3 with NWC 2 SP2 IR3

Last time I opened an SR, I ended up doing all the work and it cost
$1,000. They could not come up with any real method to fix my DMS so I
did it manually.
In any case, I'm also getting COOF on NGWGuard.db on my 2 POA's ....
I see that someone else has got that too
(https://www.netiq.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7010410)
In any case, I'm sure that others will be getting these errors and
Novell will be issuing a patch
I was going to install this patch prior to upgrading a client to 2012.
Good thing I tested first.

  • Netware 65sp7-edir8.8sp-GW8.0.2-91781 crashs now and then

Last year we had lot off crashes with our GW8.02 server on Netware 6.5sp7, mostly because the soap.nlm. The solution was patch GW8.0.2-91781 which was giving me from Novell-support.
In the meantime Novell bring out patch GW8.0.2sp2 HP1, but after reading that a lot of people have problems with HP1 and MobileSync we decide, to wait for HP2.
Till January 10 2011 the GroupWise server was stable, but on January 10 the processor is going to 98-100% cpu and we got our first ABEND this year. Strange, but can happen we thought.
On January 14 server ABEND and January 19 again ABEND.
The abend.log says something about cpu 0 (Thread .....) is on a NO SLEEP state or Address (0xF3AFF2AE) exceeds valid memory limit.
Here is short version of our ABEND.log

This is a classical Document Viewer Agent abend, which on Netware will
simply not be solveable without completely disabling it.
If you want to go that route, add /gwdvadisable to your webaccess .waa
file. This will disable all inline rendering of documents and
attachments in webaccess (users will have to download attachments and
view them locally, instead of having them rendered to HTML directly).
That abend can and will hit you any time, for all times, and as I said,
on Netware is not and will never be solved or solveable. It all depends
on which attachments your users will attempt to view, and how often they
    do that.

  • POA SP3 and Data Synchroniser 1.2.3 Build 882

    Hi All,
Last week we updated to Groupwise 8 SP3, running on Netware 6.5 with no issues. Since that update we have had major issues with Data Synchroniser 1.2.3 Build 882.
Every 2 to 5 hours all the IOS devices ( we only use IOS devices) will throw up password messages and not connect. When the password is entered it is unable to verify and connection is not restarted.
Restarting the Data Sync Server does not restart the sync. You have to restart the POA to get the sync working again.
On the POA there are no obvious log messages at the time the sync fails, all the SOAP login in and log outs from the Data Sync server just stop. Sometimes the password requests will come up and if you wait 10 minutes and enter password it will accept and sync will start again.
The only new message I see occassionally since the update is the following:
    Error: [0000] on Debug:2 hdebug=0, htemp=0
But even this is not regular.
When you restart the POA you will in most instances have a SOAP handler that is waiting to terminate which requires server restart to clear.
I have run a full cwcheck on all the databases, a DOM and PO database check and recovery to no avail. I have checked all the POA settings against the recommended in the SP3 docs.
I am out of ideas? Any help/thoughts will be much appreciated as this is frustrating.

I have lodged a Support Request with Novell as per the TID, but have been advised the pacth is not ready yet as it needs testing, there is some discussion of this in the thread above. I asked about ETA which they advised is unknown but is a high priority. Novells suggestion was to backgrade to SP2HP2 if you cannot wait for fix.
We are having restart our POA 1 to 2 times a day at present.

We do have a build that we believe fixes this issue. If you have an SR open, please contact your technician and ask them for build 803-102712. If you do not have an SR open, for tracking purposes we would need you to do so. As this is a bug for which there is no public patch at the moment, the cost of the SR would be credited back.

  • Upgraded from ZFD3.2 SP3 - ZFD 6.5 SP1, can't store inventory

I've recently upgraded my test server from ZFD 3.2 SP3 running on Netware
OES (NW 6.5.3 w/eDir 8.7.3.5). Everything appears to be working except
inventory. When it goes to store the .STR file, it give the following
error - Storer: started storing ....
Error in parsing xxxx.str due to other exception.
Storer: Full scan will be initiated.
We have tried it from a XP SP1 workstation running Novell Client 4.90 SP2
and from a workstion with both Novell Client 4.90 SP2 and the ZFD Mgmt
Agent. Both give the same results.
Have recreated the workstation inventory policy and deleted all workstation
objects. Newly imported workstations still give the error.
Inventory is not getting stored in the database. Any ideas?

  • GW8 - missing dll and a question

    1. XPSP3. at several points I get the message
    <programname>- Unable to Locate component
Application failed to start because ccsw32.dll not found
where programname can be grpwise (or gwsync if caching)
repeats intermittently but continues apparently as normal
    2. How do I adjust the frequency with which GW8 client sends and receives? Inter-MTA stuff seems to move slowly. In 6.5 it's part of 'accounts' but it isn't glaringly obvious where it is in GW8.
    3. Yes it would be very helpful if GW8 had at least one newsgroup 'GW8 Beta feedback' maybe? We run GW65 normally and loading all the GW7 messages to trawl for GW8 stuff is wasteful.

  • Quickfinder creating spaces in words

    Hello.
I am testing Quickfinder as a search solution in our office and have noticed some odd behaviour. I am running Quickfinder on OES 2 SP3 and indexing Netware 6.5 volumes. Indexes are being created and stored on the OES server without any errors that I can see.
I have setup a few test documents to see how well it finds phrases. We have a mixture of pdf, docx, doc and wpd files.
When I search for one of my test phrases, it will not always be found. If I search for a specific word or other phrase in the same doument, it finds the document.
What I have noticed, is that in the description given for that doument on the results page, the earlier phrase (that was not found), is part of the description but has odd spacing in it. For example, the word testing showed as t est ing. If I search the index for that word with the odd spacing, it finds it.
Something else I have noticed is that if I re-index the folder, the word testing will again come up but with possibly different spacing.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks

Did you by chance try disabling User Account Control (UAC) on the system
to see if that helped? Maybe a real browser?
    Good luck.

  • Moving the Inventory Database

Does anybody know what the steps are in moving a database to a different volume?
We are running Zenworks 6.5 sp3 on a netware 6.5 sp3 server. I want to move the database to a different volume on the same server because of space limitations on the current volume. I don't want to lose the current db and create a new one.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Prevent outbound email?

Is there a way to prevent outbound email from being sent? Both external and internal. Using GW8 SP3.
    Inbound OK.
And if possible, can a message be generated to reply back to user?

You can prevent users from sending mail by using a little trick - you have to
set their "maximum message size" to 1k, and set the compose format to html.
It's virtually impossible these days to send messages smaller than that if html
is used (and as a practical matter a 1k message is pretty difficult in text as
    well).
You will also want to set the access control for GWIA to prevent outbound
messages, so "devices" trying to use SMTP will also be stopped at the gateway.

  • GWIA doing DNS lookup for local address

    Hello,
I am running GW8.0.2 on Netware 6.5sp8. I have a server that our recreation department uses to send out confirmation emails when a customer signs up for a class. The recreation server and the GWIA are on the same subnet.
Here's the problem: When the Rec server sends out the first email confirmation, it gets sent out successfully. Subsequent emails after that fail. After about twenty minutes the next email will go out OK again but subsequent emails will fail.
The verbose logs on the GWIA don't tell me much but the diagnostic logs show what looks like a reverse DNS lookup happening at the GWIA for my local IP address of 10.0.0.3 (the Rec server). This reverse DNS lookup fails (probably a timeout) and subsequent emails from this local Rec server get dropped by the GWIA without the DNS lookup.
DNS is being done by DNS proxy on Bordermanager 9.2. I've bypassed the Bordermanager DNS and the same thing happens. I've made entries for the local Rec server into a route.cfg file but the GWIA seems to want to ignore these entries and keeps doing the DNS lookup.
The wierdest part of the puzzle is that if I restart the proxy on the Bordermanager the next email will go out with, of course, subsequent emails failing. I've looked at the proxy dns cache and can't even find an entry for my Rec server.
Attached are the entries from the Diagnostic logs of the GWIA. Novell tech support has assured me that the GWIA and the BM are working fine. I am also having this problem with a scanner that scans then emails but all other email and Bordermanager are functioning fine. This server and scanner were not having this problem before upgrading to GW8.0.2.
I don't understand why GWIA is doing DNS lookups for a local address and I don't know what I can do to stop it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is a successful transfer right after restarting the proxy: 10.0.0.3 is the Rec server, 10.0.0.130 is the GWIA and 10.0.0.1 is the Bordermanager.

The reverse DNS done by GWIA is normal, and can't be stopped or tricked.
That it fails in such odd ways must be a bug with the reverse DNS proxy
of Bordermanager though. Apparently on the second lookups, it doesn't
answer in a timely manner (the type of answer is irrelevant, just it
*has* to answer). Use a different, "real" DNS server for your GWIA.

  • NTSCAN32.EXE: Please Insert Disk....

    I have a Windows 2000, SP3 workstation running NetWare client 4.83
    SP2.
Once the workstation boots up I get this message continuously:
    NTSCAN32.EXE
The driver detected that the device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 has its

cache enabled. Data corruption may occur.
The ZenWorks for Desktops 3 keeps trying to rescan the Iomega Zip
    drive.
If there is no disk in the drive I get this message.
Does anyone know how to correct this issue aside from uninstalling the
remote management capabilities from the client?
I tried reinstalling the client but that didn't help.

  • (probably) The last GW8 Netware Server in NYC Query

i think GW8 on Netware is similar to an iPhone -- it just works! But now i'm being forced to migrate to gw2014 on Linux its about time. Environment: 40 users, 1 domain, 1 post office 1 gwia 1 webaccess. I had gwava 4 on this box but gwava has since been moved to their linux appliance.
Using Danita's Move guide (for GW2012) and some other internet sources like (http://www.slideshare.net/NOVL/migra...pwise-to-linux) I did the following in a isolated Test vm environment:
    1) installed new suse sp3 server (+1 IP address)
    2) ncp mounted to netware
    3) dbcopy Domain and PO (tested 4 times with agents shutdown. average time 6h 2 min)
    4) installed gw2014 on linux box
    5) choose upgrade an existing domain
    6) then, choose upgrade an existing PO
    7) did not migrate any other agents
    8) create new gwia
    9) Issues with spinning wheel so upgraded to gw2014sp1
    10) all good. one account with 20k emails works ok. As admin: I can add a new user, delete a user. Users can transfer mail between users MTA works -- no problem.
Q1: What problems should I be looking out for?
My production system will have gwava (192.168.1.4) on the frontend (appliance) pointing to the old gw8 server (192.168.1.5). When I unload the agents to perform the migration Gwava will hold incoming emails in a queue. The new linux will hold a temporary IP address (192.168.1.6) during the migration. Post migration I wish to change the linux box to the assume the gw8 IP so Gwava and the user clients can find it.
Q2: Is changing the linux server IP post setup okay? Will any certs be affected?
So, I'm thinking i should build this system with an incoming and outgoing GWIA. I'm also thinking about re-adding webaccess.
Q3: How exactly is this incoming and outgoing gwia gateways done? A secondary domain with another vIP on .5?
Q4: How about the new webaccess? A second secondary domain with another vIP on .5?
The final reason i'd like to change the linux IP post migration is that I also have datasychronizer and a blackberry BES thrown into the mix.
    Q5: Any concerns now?
    Thanks
    BTW I Love my blackberry

    EBSR PARAMEDIC wrote:
    > Using Danita's Move guide (for GW2012)
I hate to suggest such a thing, but we do have a specific guide for moving from
NetWare to GW2014, and it goes over a lot of gotchas! Sounds like you have
managed to get it working though, but I wanted to mention it in case someone who
doesn't have the 2012 guide thinks they need THAT one to upgrade to 2014 :-)
Q2: It's possible to change the IP address, but for me I would actually just
add the old address as a secondary. As you point out, the server certs would be
invalid. This isn't a HUGE issue on SLES, but honestly, if you add the
secondary IP address now, in the future if you ever need to bring up a
"temporary" server in a pinch, you can easily just "move" the GW IP address
there. The only possible downside to this is the GWIA. It will listen on the
secondary, so GWAVA will find it easily, but no matter what it listens on, it
"sends" on the primary. Thus, you might have to adjust outbound firewall rules
to allow sending by the new server.
    Q3 - I think that's just a continuation of the discussion for Q2 above.
Q4 - webaccess no longer requires a domain. There is no WebAccess gateway any
longer. For that though, if the webaccess server moves to a different server,
you might need to open firewall ports between the GW server and webaccess (if
there is a firewall). WebAccess needs to have access to ports 7191, 8301 and
    8400 on the GW server.
    Hope that helps.

  • Transfer Trustees from Netware to OES2 SP3

    Hi everbody,
with the last metamig, I saw, that saved data from trustee.nlm should be restored.
I saved on the original Netware Server with trustee save /R daten: daten:daten.txt.

The Volume Name is the same as on Netware. All data have the same path.
Can anybody tell me the correct syntax how to restore the trustees to oes?
    Thanks for helping,

I don't believe (I could be wrong) that you can take the trustee.nlm and save the output in a format that OES Linux will understand (the OES LInux uses a .xml format which I think is different)
You could manually read through the file (that NetWare generates) and figure out if you wanted to manually reassign them
Or you could use the miggui (migration utility) on OES Linux to migrate the data (and trustees) from NetWare.

Hello out there. Does anyone know if there are iManager 2.02 plugins for

If you download an eval version of BM 3.8, you should find a
documents/craig johnson directory on the OS CD. There is a lite version
of my BMgr 3.x book in there, and the last chapter talks about using
iManager. There is a Windows version of iManager on the companion CD that
you can install on a PC.
As far as the snapins are concerned, I am pretty sure they are buried on
the 3.7 CD's, but in any case they are only going to allow you to work on
filtering. You can simply use FILTCFG on the server to do all your
    filtering work without iManager.

  • Netware 6.5 SP8 to OES2 SP3 Migration Error with migfiles

    Hi,
at first. We would like to abuse the migfiles tool to mirror data from Netware to OES2 SP3 with trustees !! Do you know a better tool than migfiles, please let me know. Its very important for me to use a CLI Command tool like migfiles, because it should run automatically.
We want to mirror data from a Netware 6.5 SP8 NSS Volume to a OES2 SP3 NSS Volume with trustess. The first migration with following line works without any error:
    migfiles -s IPAddress -V Daten -x /media/nss/D4/Test3/ -i
From this point we need the -sync parameter to keep the data current.
    I use this:
    migfiles -s IPAddress -V Daten -x /media/nss/D4/Test3/ -i --sync "22-07-2011 16:26"
But then i became this errors:
Error: nbackup: Failed to restore: DATEN:VOLDATA.TDF
Error: nbackup: Received error: 0xfffdffdc ((libtsafs.so 6.50.0 291) An invalid path was used.) from NWSMTSWriteDataSet
Error: nbackup: Failed to restore: DATEN:tsa5up24/NWTAPE/
Error: nbackup: Received error: 0xfffdffdc ((libtsafs.so 6.50.0 291) An invalid path was used.) from NWSMTSWriteDataSet
Error: nbackup: Failed to restore: DATEN:tsa5up24/NWTAPE/NWTAPE.CDM
Fatal: Failed to restore data. Could not find destination path. If the destination path is a cluster resource, then check whether the resource is moved.
Fatal: nbackup: Received error: 0xfffdffe5 ((libtsafs.so 6.50.0 282) The data set handle is invalid.) from NWSMTSOpenDataSetForRestore
When the Sync job is finished, no file which was changed on the Source was migrated to the destination.
For your information. With the Novell Migration Tools (GUI) i have the same error. But with the Windows version "Novell Server Consolidation and Migration Toolkit" it works without any errors. But its a GUI tool without the possibility to run it automatically.
    Any ideas
