GW801 Primary Domain Netware to OES migration failure

I have started migrating my GroupWise from NetWare to OES. I have migrated a small post office to a server with no problems. I have created a new domain and webaccess on another OES server. My problem came when trying to migrate my primary domain from NetWare to OES. I used the migration utility from the same NetWare server and to the same OES server the small post office I migrated earlier. The migration utility ran without errors. I manually changed the IP's in the Domain and Link configuration, and also I have a startup MTP in our main post office to the primary domain which I changed (I needed this when running on the NetWare Cluster). I ran a database recover DB before and after the migration. All links were green but no traffic from post office to migrated domain or gwia domain to primary domain, queues were filling up. I was running out of time so had to revert back to the NetWare server. I changed the IP's in the Domain object and Links, and MTP on PO, ran DB recover again. Now it wouldn't work on the NetWare server. Luckily I ran a DBCOPY to another source before migrating. I copied over top the domain directory and that saved me.
Any ideas???
I'm running OES with NSS and long name support because I didn't want to deal with administration compatibility issues. I didn't have any problems using my workstation ConsoleOne for the small post office and new webaccess domain. But should I have been using ConsoleOne on the OES server?
On the NetWare server I had in the startup files "Remote Connections" user and password. These are NLM settings and error out when using them on OES. Do I still need a "Remote Connections" user for OES?
If I'm using long name space on the NSS volume do I have to worry about case sensitivity? I'll just copy the files over manually.

The default agent file and log locations are in /opt and /var. I would prefer to have these on my NSS volume. Is this good practice for OES?

kjhurni, thanks for your response. I hope this reply looks correct. I'm reply via my GroupWise Client. For some reason I have a problem with replying via the browser.
I figured the agents would have to stay put if I didn't want to deal with update issues in the future. I think I'll move my logs.
I used the GroupWise Migration utility. Actually I tried again last night with no luck again. The link configuration changes I know that the PO is trying to connect. Here is part of the log file.
06:32:36 094 MTP: GW HCH: Unable to open connection [8925]. Address = 10.0.59.210, Port = 7100
The Primary Domain thinks all is well when looking at the screen. Because it shows all PO's and Domains open. The Secondary Domain shows Primary is down.
I have been using the Migration utility because of the case issues. Which when I tried Dbcopy it didn't seem to change the files to lower case. I think I figured this out and that I need to have Unix name space running and not long. Otherwise it won't make it lowercase.
I just have a Training PO on this server, no MTA.
Do you think I should add secondary IP addresses for POA and MTA agents on the same server?
I do use odd ports for my secondary MTA's because they still run on a NetWare cluster.
Yes, I'm using OES/NSS and ConsoleOne on Windows. I have many administrators that I didn't want to educate, that's why I didn't go SLES.
This is my plan for my third try.
Change the volume name space to unix on destination server.
Make normal dbcopy on original server (This is what saved me the last two times).
Change ConsoleOne Domain and MTA paths.
Stop MTA
Use DBCOPY -m (it will probably work now that I'm using unix name space).
Delete mslocal, wpcsin and wpcsout folders.
Start MTA
Check Links and change If needed.
If I cannot get it to work. Perform a top down rebuild.
What do you think?

NSS is fine, but you can't really change the location of the agent
files. Log files, yes, but the agents and startup files are going to be
in the /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin and /share directories
Anyway, back to your question
You used which migration utility? the OES Miggui or the groupwise
migration utility?
I personally just do a dbcopy if it's an MTA as it'll do everything I
Need it to do.
On the destination OES2 server, you mentioned you had a PO on it. Did
you also have another MTA on that as well?
The only time I've seen issues is when you have multiple agents on
OES2. At that point you'll need to use dedicated IP's (there's a
problem it seems where Groupwise doesn't pay attention to the "bind to
specific" IP if it's running on Linux/OES2).
Also, I've had an issue where the stupid MTA had a "bad" configuration
(odd port # leftover from WAY back when) and no amount of rebuilding
would fix it. I ended up having to manually edit the startup file to
force it to use the configured IP and Port.
Then I stopped/started the MTA and it stayed loaded. Then I
stopped/started the POA and it loaded.
Then a few minutes it got communication to each other and seemed to
behave properly from that point on.
I am assuming that you are using NSS on your OES2 server and using
ConsoleOne on a Windows machine (as opposed to running on the actual
OES2 server itself).

  • What is the best practice and Microsoft best recommended procedure of placing "FSMO Roles on Primary Domain Controller (PDC) and Additional Domain Controller (ADC)"??

    Hi,
I have Windows Server 2008 Enterprise  and have
2 Domain Controllers in my Company:
    Primary Domain Controller (PDC)
    Additional Domain Controller (ADC)
My (PDC) was down due to Hardware failure, but somehow I got a chance to get it up and transferred
    (5) FSMO Roles from (PDC) to (ADC).
Now my (PDC) is rectified and UP with same configurations and settings.  (I did not install new OS or Domain Controller in existing PDC Server).
Finally I want it to move back the (FSMO Roles) from
(ADC) to (PDC) to get UP and operational my (PDC) as Primary.
(Before Disaster my PDC had 5 FSMO Roles).
Here I want to know the best practice and Microsoft best recommended procedure for the placement of “FSMO Roles both on (PDC) and (ADC)” ?
In case if Primary (DC) fails then automatically other Additional (DC) should take care without any problem in live environment.
Example like (FSMO Roles Distribution between both Servers) should be……. ???
Primary Domain Controller (PDC) Should contains:????
    Schema Master
    Domain Naming Master
Additional Domain Controller (ADC) Should contains:????
    RID
    PDC Emulator
    Infrastructure Master
Please let me know the best practice and Microsoft best recommended procedure for the placement of “FSMO Roles.
I will be waiting for your valuable comments.

Here I want to know the best practice
and Microsoft best recommended procedure for the placement of “FSMO Roles both on (PDC) and (ADC)” ?
There is a good article I would like to share with you:http://oreilly.com/pub/a/windows/2004/06/15/fsmo.html
For me, I do not really see a need to have FSMO roles on multiple servers in your case. I would recommend making it simple and have a single DC holding all the FSMO roles.
    In case if
Primary (DC) fails then automatically other Additional (DC) should take care without any problem in live environment.
No. This is not true. Each FSMO role is unique and if a DC fails, FSMO roles will not be automatically transferred.
There is two approaches that can be followed when an FSMO roles holder is down:
If the DC can be recovered quickly then I would recommend taking no action
If the DC will be down for a long time or cannot be recovered then I would recommend that you size FSMO roles and do a metadata cleanup
Attention! For (2) the old FSMO holder should never be up and online again if the FSMO roles were sized. Otherwise, your AD may be facing huge impacts and side effects.

  • FSMO Roles have moved after migration failure

    Hi All
We tried to migrate our SBS2008 to SBS2011 last night but it failed due to the account we were using not having the 'Logon as Batch' right.
We managed to recover the server but now we're getting the following error...
The FSMO Role Check detected a condition in your environment that is out of compliance with the licensing policy. The Management Server must hold the primary domain controller and domain naming master Active Directory roles. Please move the Active Directory
roles to the Management Server now.
    How do we rectify this?
    Thanks
    ====
If I run NETDOM QUERY FSMO it all appears fine for all 5 roles but SBS BPA is reporting...
Title: The FSMO role does not comply with the license policy
    Source: License Compliance service

    Hello ,
Try the following steps to seize FSMo roles.
-Click Start, click Run, type ntdsutil in the Open box, and then click OK.
-Type roles, and then press ENTER.
-Type connections, and then press ENTER.
-Type "connect to server servername ", and then press ENTER, where servername is the name of the domain  controller that you want to assign the FSMO role to.
-At the server connections prompt, type q, and then press ENTER.
    -Type seize "role" ,
where "role" is the role that you want to seize. For example, to seize the RID master role, type seize rid master. The one exception is for the PDC emulator role, whose syntax is seize pdc, not seize pdc emulator.
-At the fsmo maintenance prompt, type q, and then press ENTER to gain access to the ntdsutil prompt. Type q, and then press ENTER to quit the Ntdsutil utility.
-if still facing same issue ,please take dcdiag and paste. and Active Directory events.
-For dcdiag ,run dcdiag /v >dc.txt
    -paste the output of dc.txt.
    All the best.

  • Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain join displays error "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed...."

    Hi,
Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain join displays error "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed...."
    DC:windows Server 2008 R2
    Domain functional level:Windows Server 2003
When Winxp join domain, have no this error message.
    I checked http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2018583?wa=wsignin1.0 does't work.
There have 3 suggestion in this article:
1.The "Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" checkbox has been disabled in the IPv4 properties of the computer being joined.
    Doesnt's work.
2.Connectivity over UDP port 137 is blocked between client and the helper DC servicing the join operation in the target domain.
On my DC, I run netstat -an, reslut as below:
     UDP    192.168.20.3:137       *:*
3.The TCP/IPv4 protocol has been disabled so that the client being joined or the DC in the destination domain targeted by the LDAP BIND is running TCP/IPv6 only.
    We are not using IPV6.
This server recently updated from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2. Before upgrade, when Win7 and Win2008 join this domain, also have the same error message.
Please help to check this issue.
    Thank you very much.
    BR
    Guo YingHui

    Hi Guo Ying,
I have faced this critical error which makes over-writes the host names in the domain when you join.
For example: Already you had a host name called as PC.domain.com in the domain.com Domain.
When you try to add the another host name called as PC in the domain.com Domain, it doesn't give you the duplicate name error on the network it does over-write the existing host name called as PC.domain.com & it will add the new host name into the domain.
Host name which got over-written will get removed from the domain. I faced this issue in my project. My DPM host name got removed from the Domain & new host name got joined into the domain which halted my backups for one day.
    Final Resolution is as follows:
You need to start the dns console on the DC & drop down the domain name.
Select the _msdcs when you click on _msdcs it will show the Name Server's list on the right hand side.
You need to add the Domain Naming Master under the _msdcs or add all the domain controllers which you had.
After you add the Name server's try joining the PC OR Laptop to the domain which is successfully joins it.

  • Sharepoint foundation 2013 "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"

    Hi Sir/Madam,
I try to connect the sharepoint foundation 2013 server by remote desktop recently using domain account, but it show the error message that mentioned in the subject. I can login the server using local account. Do I need to disjoin
the domain then rejoin the domain? Will there be any risk if I do this?
    My SharePoint environment as below:
    Primary domain : abc.local (DC : windows server 2012 standard R2)
SharePoint : SharePoint foundation 2013 and SQL Standard 2012 installed on a single windows server 2012 standard (not R2, joined domain "abc.local)
I tried this on DC > active directory user and compouter >right click Sharepoint pc > click reset > reboot sharepoint server, reboot sharepoint server but still cannot login using AD account
I also tried netdom command and powershell command "Reset -ComputerMachinePassword" also failed to reset the password.
Please help to resolve my problem. Thanks
    Jeffrey

Go to Control Panel -> System -> under Computer Name, Domain, click Change Settings. Click on the Change button, then re-type the domain in the NetBIOS or FQDN format, which ever it is currently not set to. This will force a soft-join to the domain.

  • 10.5.7 server as primary domain controller

    Setting up a 10.5.7 server -
Server is setup as a open directory master, I want it also to be a primary domain controller (smb).
But when I try to change it from Standalone Server to primary domain controller, using my directory admin user id and password, it just reverts back to standalone server. tried it with smb running and not running.
    Any ideas ?

Having the same issue with Leopard Server 10.5.8.
SMB was previously set up as a "Domain Member" and now I want to make it a "Primary Domain Controller".
After reboot, the Role always reverts back to "Domain Member".
    Any ideas?

  • Sun Directory Server as Primary Domain Controller.

    Hello,
I've recently installed Sun Directory Server, Access Manager, and DSEE Identity Manager, on CentOS 5.2, with success, but my question is:
Can I use this directory as a primary domain controller for my network, I want to know if it is possible to integrate this directory in the same way that Active Directory works, I mean connecting Windows computers to the DC with some kind of connector (because windows won't connect to another directory than AD natively). I know that there are some MSGina replacements, like pgina, but I'm looking for some serious solution, especially for computers running Windows Vista.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
thanks for your answer, but.. there is a way to configure the DSEE to be like a native 2000/2003 Active Directory?, I mean, connecting directly to the DSEE without using Samba, I know that is possible to use that solution, but you lose some functionality.
I've been trying to do some research about the topic, like modifying the bind DNS to act like a AD DNS, and it works at a certain grade, windows xp detects the SVR records but when it tries to connect to the directory it fails giving me an error telling that the DC isn't available. It will be great to make such environment, Windows XP / Vista connected to DSEE without third party software.
Any comment would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Do primary domain network interfaces need an IP address?

To give a bit of background on this question...
Our company is in the process of being fully PCI compliant (this is the UK btw) and part of this is a requirement for data separation, effectively so that customer data is not available from other, less secure, areas of the network. To facilitate this we have a number of different networks, all firewalled off from each other.
I am creating a backup platform that will use multiple LDOMs in the different networks to back up specific systems and I can obviously control network access from within the domains (this is why I am using domains not zones)
The issue I am trying to avoid is the host server (or primary domain) having easy access to every network it is connected to.
So, my question is when I plumb an interface in the primary domain that I am going to assign to a VSW, do I need to give it an IP address? Can I assign it a null address and just have the interface plumbed into the right VLAN. In fact, does an interface need to be plumbed at all in the primary domain?
I guess what I am asking is do the guest domains use the IP address of the primary domain at all or is it completely separated by the hypervisor so that the guest domain effectively uses the network port as is.
Note: I am using VLAN trunked interfaces as well to increase the number of interfaces available to me in case that matters.

Are you connecting to a home network?
Talk to who setup the network.
What is the wording of the message? Typically yo have to enter a password set by the people who administer the network

This is greate!I replaced e1000g0 with vsw0 now.
Could ldm automatic update the ldm configuration parameters?I created a file for the virtual disk, the output of ldm list-bindings as below:
    ......................ignore.............................
    Vdisk: disk0 vol0@primary-vds0
    service: primary-vds0 @ primary
    ......................ignore.................................
but when I updated some other parameters such as vsw, vnet, the vol0 became:
    .................ignore.........................
    Vdisk: disk0 primary-vds0-vol0@primary-vds0
    service: primary-vds0
    .......................ignore........................................
and the same time the primary-vds0-vol0 link with /dev/zvol/rdsk/domdisk/dom1,so the guest domain couldn't get the boot disk,I had to update it manunally.
Did you have the same issue?
    Greetings fenglimian.

  • Solaris 11 server as Primary Domain Controller

    Hi,
All of our servers run Solaris (currently 10, but looking to upgrade to 11). In each of our offices we have one server configured as a Primary Domain Controller via Samba to provide naming services to our Windoze users. I would like to continue with that arrangement, but I would also like to leverage the built-in SMB/CIFS support.
My question is this: is this an either/or proposition? That is, if I want to run my server as a PDC, does that mean I use the traditional Samba implementation and cannot use the built-in SMB/CIFS services?
I've reviewed the Solaris docs, but I don't see any mention of this topic.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Well, they have an entire manual dedicated to the SMB/CIFS services in S11 ( [Oracle Solaris Administration: SMB and Windows Interoperability|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1449/index.html] ). In that manual, they go into great detail on how to configure your S11 server as a member of an AD domain or a Windoze workgroup using the built-in SMB/CIFS support (which sounds a lot like the white paper you reference). The PDC technique is a pre-AD concept (WinNT) that Samba 3.x does a nice job of emulating (I've been using it since at least Solaris 9, and maybe even 8?). The Samba docs dedicate an entire chapter to using Samba 3.x as a domain controller ([Chapter 4. Domain Control|http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html]).
Yes, AD is LDAP+Kerberos, and that's what making a S11 server a member of the AD domain leverages since the PAM modules that are included with Solaris support both. The problem is that we don't run any Windows Server machines (licensing costs are ridiculous if all you need it for is an AD server). The PDC approach with Samba is a very affordable, flexible alternative to running a WIndows server. The aforementioned chapter in the Samba documentation references AD, and says that the Samba Domain Control feature is not AD (and may never be).
    Thanks for your reply.

  • IPrint migration from Netware to OES 11.1...

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate printer agents from a Netware 6.5 SP8 machine to a print manager running on OES 11 SP1 (on SLES11 SP2).
When migrating the printer agent, all goes well with the exception of printer driver associations - which aren't made for the newly -created queue.
The Netware print manager is running the "6e" set of patches and the OES 11.1 server has the Sept 2013 patch set.
I found another thread which mentioned that disabling the proxy on the server resolved this. I've tried disabling the system proxy and restarting, but this hasn't made a difference.
The migration log doesn't mention any failures to associate printer drivers.
Has anyone else seen this, and if so have you found a workaround/fix for this? We have 1300 printer agents, so manual association isn't an option :)
    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

you should follow this steps to disable proxy if you do not want to
    reboot the server:
    - Turn off the proxy:
YaST -> Network Services -> Proxy -> Uncheck the "Enable Proxy" option
    - Server console type :
    # unset http_proxy
    # unset https_proxy
    # rcapache2 restart
    Try it again

  • NetWare Cluster - OES Cluster

    Hi all.
Can I use DST to migrate NSS volumes on a NetWare 6.5SP7 cluster to OES 2SP3
    cluster ?
    Thanks in advance, TA.

Rolling cluster means that I use the same "disk" on the san.
    This has 3 problems:
    - my NSS pools have many partitions. I normally increase the pool once a
year. So now they have at least 7 partitions.
    - over this 8 or 7 years I had a lot of volumes 100% full. I think the
    volumes need to be defrag.
    - needs to be done off-hours
So I would like a solution to copy the data. And because I have some big
volumes, and to reduce costs (no over-time) I would like to copy the data
    online.
DST (I think) would solve all of these problems.
    Thanks, TA.

  • Data Miner Extension in SQL Developer 4.0 EA3 Release: EA3 Repository Migration Failure

The Data Miner extension in the SQL Developer 4.0 EA3 release fails when attempting to migrate the repository to EA3. This posting contains instructions on how to recover from this failure as well as to successful migrate the repository from EA2 to EA3. There are no problems when just installing a fresh Data Miner repository.
Sorry about the difficulty if this has caused you any problems.
    Mark
Failure message displayed in log when migrating to EA3:
    Error report -
    ORA-06550: line 96, column 40:
PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type
    ORA-06550: line 96, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    06550. 00000 -  "line %s, column %s:\n%s"
*Cause:    Usually a PL/SQL compilation error.
    *Action:
Instructions on how to recover from failure and continue using original version of SQL Developer:
    1) Execute the following sql as SYS in order to allow the Data Miner repository to be open for use again:
    UPDATE ODMRSYS.ODMR$REPOSITORY_PROPERTIES
    SET PROPERTY_STR_VALUE = 'LOADED'
    WHERE PROPERTY_NAME = 'REPOSITORY_STATUS';
    COMMIT;
    2) During attempted migrationto EA3 failed, access priviliges to the Data Miner repository are revoked from users. In order to use Data Miner again, these grants must be reapplied. You can either use the UI guided process to accomplish this, which requires the SYS password, or you can run the usergrants.sql script, again as the SYS user. For instructions on how to run the usergrants.sql script, or any adminstrative script, review the instructions contained in the install_scripts_readme.html file. You can find this file in the SQL Developer directories created when you unzipped SQL Developer. It is located in the following relative directory: \<SQL Developer Install Directory>\sqldeveloper\dataminer\scripts.
Instructions on how to successfully migrate to EA3.
If you have already attempted to migrate to EA3 and failed, then you need to perform the recovery instructions noted above, after which you can continue with the instructions below.
If you have not yet attempted to migrate to EA3, then just following the instructions below.
    1) Replace all contents the script file createxmlworkflowsbackup.sql with specification contained at the end of this posting. The file to edit can be found in the \<SQL Developer Install Directory>\sqldeveloper\dataminer\scripts directory.
    2) After completing the edit to createxmlworkflowsbackup.sql,  you can proceed with the UI guided migration or perform the migration using the appropriate migration script. Review the install_scripts_readme.html file in the /dataminer/scripts directory for instructions on how to perform the migration using the script. For the UI migration, simply open any user connection in your Data Miner navigator, and you will be prompted to perform the migration.
