GX620 HDD failed, where to find machine image as download?

My neighbor's hard drive failed (or it's the controller, but the HDD just clicks and the BIOS won't see it and I get a PXE-E61: Media test failure) and they did not make backups of the machine images from the image partition (at least, Google leads me to believe that's where it's at).
Where/how can I download the image for them so I don't have to go through the grind of reinstalling EVERYTHING for them? It's Christmas, someone take pity on the nice guy!
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Thanks, dude, I'm with you.
For my own machines, they get wiped and reinstalled. I've upgraded many Vista machines to XP after fighting with Vista all the way through SP1. Someone remind me why I waited so long again?    I'd upgrade my wife's too if I had a license of XP Tablet laying around.
http://dotnet.org.za/codingsanity/archive/2007/12/14/review-windows-xp.aspx
However, this is my neighbors' machine, they're far from power users, and predominately surf the web and run MS Office apps, so the default image should be fine and will save me chasing down any drivers (google seems to indicate some of the drivers are elusive - we'll see). Not sure I want to invest 3-5 hours customizing it for them, as much as I love them.
They didn't get any discs, just the machine, the backpack, etc.
I'll have to borrow a buddy's MSDN to get the OEM version of Vista and use the SerNo on the bottom of the machine since all my other machines came with images and not the real dealio. I have tons of original XP, NT, 95, etc. disks in the library, but no Vista.
No response from support yet. Never heard of MSI before my neighbors asked me to look at it last night, we'll see where we end up. Looks like a decent machine, found it interesting the BIOS' minimum overclocking was 15%. LOL

  • Where to find iWork 9 full Download to go with 2010 license purchase?

In 2010, I downloaded the trial version of iWork 9 and bought a family-pack license.
I now need to install on my MacBook Pro 3,1 after replacing a dying hard drive.
The Trial Version is not available from Apple's website at this point.
Searching my other Mac and various drives hasn't uncovered a backed up disc image, one in a Downloads folder or anything else that looks like it will install all three.
I would rather use an installer than try dragging folders from my other Mac and find out things are not working properly.
What's the official Apple recommendation... and I do hope it's NOT "pay for and download each separately from the App Store."
    Other unofficial suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Ted

Thanks for asking.  No single type or manufacturer.
The drive that was failing in the MBP 3,1 was a Hitachi HTS725050A9A364 500GB 2.5" laptop drive. It began getting sluggish and then would not boot.  This is just a year after installation. Eventually began reporting hardware issues and reported abbout to fail.  I was able to back it up, and have now replaced it.
Based on good results with a 1TB Segate Free Agent for Mac beginning in 2009, I've bought two more and haven't had problems.
Based on that, I bought a 3TB Segate GoFlex Desk for Mac Part # 9ZQAP4-500, which seems to need Disk Utility repair every time it's connected.
Seems to be different things each time.
Just plugged it in and while it did come up, I ran Disk Utility, and ran Verify, then Repair:
Verify and Repair volume “Ted's 3TB GoFlex #1”
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking extents overflow file.
    Checking catalog file.
    Invalid sibling link
    Rebuilding catalog B-tree.
The volume Ted's 3TB GoFlex #1 could not be repaired.
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
    And it won't remount.
Eject, then disconnect FW800 cable, and it does remount.  It has a backup of one of the 1TB drives (with lots of born-digital stills).  I'll toss most of its contents to a 4TB DuoPro that has room, and then see what happens after a reformat.  I'm not optimistic. The 3TB GoFlex Desk for Macs eems like a rather "fragile" drive for some reason.
An I noted tonight that the fan on the DuoPro isn't working... so we'll need to do something about that.
Hope that's not too much info.
And to wrap up this thread, I ran across this workaround today in another post within the iWorks community:
"alternatively you can copy the following files from one computer to the other:
    Macintosh HD:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork09.Installer.plist
    Macintosh HD:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork09.plist
    Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:iWork '09
    Macintosh HD:Applications:iWork '09"
That did the job, and we're up and running with iWork on the MBP.

Easiest way to find time machine files is to open up the folder or application(works for email and iphoto)  they were in - then click on time machine ICON or enter time machine from the time machine menu to go back through the files.

  • Where can I find the ColdFusion Amazon Machine Image (AMI)?

According to several articles I read last year prior to the release of ColdFusion 9, Adobe made an Amazon Machine Image for CF9 available.  However, I can't find it anywhere on Amazon's AMI list.  Conducting a search on adobe.com and these forums, I can't find any articles discussing the use of CF9 on EC2.
Can someone confirm whether or not there is a publicly available CF9 AMI image and where I can find it?  Alternatively, any existing articles on how to set one up with CF9 would be helpful.

"(also, my profile says that I'm running OS X 10.4.6, but I'm not really sure, that's just what one of the disks has written on it that came with my used and very cheap machine "
Click on the blue Apple icon at the top left of your screen and choose About this Mac. That will tell you what your OS version is and what amount of RAM you have. The "More Info" button in the pop-up screen will give you the Apple System Profiler application and that will give you whole bunches of information on the drive space used etc.

  • Where to find image bullet for Brushed Canvas theme?

I am using the Brushed Canvas Theme in Keynote '09 and I imported a slide from another theme, and the bullets are the wrong image. I could not find the bullet image in the list under image bullets. I check to see which bullets are used in a typical slide from the Brushed Canvas theme, but the image bullet shows up under "custom image". Where are the custom images stored for the Brushed Canvas Theme? If I look under Keynote 09-->Package Contents-->etc.-->ImageGlyphs, the image bullet that is used in the theme is not there. Where else could/should it be?

I mean the Keynote file. If you are not seeing Show Package Content, then you are saving your files as the flat file type not the package. You can change that in Keynote Preferences.
If you don't have the option to Show Package Content, follow these steps:
Go to the Finder and find your Keynote, select it and command i to view info
Change the extension to .zip and then click the use .zip in the dialog box that comes up
Double click the new .zip file and it will change it to a folder
Open the folder and you will see all the files that make up your Keynote File
Close the folder and add .key to the end of the name and click Add in the dialog box (this will change it back to a Keynote file)

  • I saw Corey Barker do a demo where he extracted an image from the background, then cleaned up the edge with a process that allowed him to de-fringe it.  I can't remember how he did it. And I can't find it.  Help!

I saw Corey Barker do a demo a few weeks ago where he extracted an image from the background, then used a technique I was not familiar with to clean it up. You selected the area, then did something that involved going either to edit or select, then there was a dialog box that allowed you to dial it in, depending on the color background you were removing.  I can't find this anywhere. Can't remember.  It's driving me crazy!  If someone can help me find this, I would be very glad and grateful. Thanks!  Laura

iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

    hi sir,
Did you try to use "List OS Image"? we can get the property form the results:
    result = sms.list_os_images()
    for image in result:
    print('Name: ' + image.name)
    print('Label: ' + image.label)
    print('OS: ' + image.os)
    print('Category: ' + image.category)
    print('Description: ' + image.description)
    print('Location: ' + image.location)
    print('Affinity group: ' + image.affinity_group)
    print('Media link: ' + image.media_link)
    print('')
Please try it. Any questions or it doesn't work, please let me know.

where to find the best application for cleaning out my MacBook Air with OS X 10.7.5? I've been using MacKeeper but believe it's slowing down my laptop considerable. Thank you.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction.  Some are malicious. Use with caution, and install only well-known extensions from relatively trustworthy sources, such as the Safari Extensions Gallery.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.
