Gx623 gfx problem

Greetings, i own a Msi Gx623 that came pre installed with windows 7 32bit, it worked fine and i could play World of Warcraft just fine but after a while i decided to try out some other games (borderlands, assassins creed, battlefield) but i've encountered a problem after playing these games for a while, they all end up crashing the computer... First the screen would go all black and flash pretty fast and all input would stop responding although the sound still continued wether it was ingame sound or music but after 10-15 seconds the sound would also crash and lock up in a small infinite loop sounding like a scratched music cd...
The only way to get the computer working again is doing a hard reset
I consider myself pretty good with computers so i started with checking out if there were new drivers, windows update said there was so i decided to try it out but no luck the games still crashed so i checked on the msi driver page and installed that one, still no luck...
Then i went to ati's site to get the newest driver but it wouldn't let me install it, so i got the "Ati mobility modder" application, modded the install acordingly and i could install without a problem but the problem still was there...
Oh well, maybe a fresh OS install would help? so i acquired me a Windows 7 64bit ultimate and installed it, now the drivers here was a little more tricky as MSI apperently don't support 64 bit for this laptop and therefor denie us the use of 700mb additional ram , anyway i tried the windows update methode and started up a game but still no luck :( did the Ati mobility modder trick again on the newest 64bit drivers from ati but no luck this time either.
Fine either it's a driver issue that haven't been fixed or it's not a driver problem, so I checked for the temperature of the GPU with AMD gpu clock tool and instructed it to save a log file with temps, after 20min of playing a game without crashes i closed it and looked at the max temp: 78 degrees, that seems fine as the limit is 90 for a gpu iirc?
The most recent and strange thing that happend is that i overclocked the card slightly with the AMD Gpu clock tool and it ran Borderlands fine for a couple of hours although it usually crashes once a hour
What i've thought about doing but haven't done yet:
Installed a different os like xp 32bit
bios flash the card (i don't dare doing it though)
Anyway, anyone that have a clue about what could be wrong? the last thing i know that could be wrong is a hardware failure...
Oh btw i was looking at contacting MSI support but where do i find the serial no. of the laptop? i've looked all over the laptop but i can only see the 2 model numbers (gx623 and MS-1651)

@zagitta and all with this black screen + hanging sound crash problem:
My best friend bought the same Notebook (MSI GX623 with ATi 4670), he had the same problem with getting a black screen with hanging sound, after a few second sound also was gone.
Only a restart of the notebook was possible.
We tried many different drivers 9.11 -> 10.3 (also Beta Drivers), with no improvement in stability.
Tools like Furmark or other Stresstests runs fine without crash.
Games with Source-Engine (DOD Source, CS Source, Team Fortress 2, ...) mostly crashed in the 10 mins, otherwise some Games (COD MW 2, Torchlight, Aliens vs. Preator) crashes later (but the also did).
After 2 RMA's (changed Cooler, changed Graphics-Chip, Technicans didn't find a problem) there was no change in the situation, the "Gamer"-Notebook still crash.
Yesterday my Friend sayed, that Battlefield Bad Company 2 was the only Game which didn't crash since he played it on the Notebook.
Because this i monitored the GPU-Core Clock and Memory-Clock with GPU-Z while playing DOD:S and BF BC2, i could see that the Core-Clock and the Memory-Clock was at 3D-Speeds in BC2 but not in DOD:S.
In this moment i remembered on my old System with 2 PowerColor 3870 in Crossfire, there was a similar problem with crashes in Battleforge because i modified the GPU-Bios to get 2D-Clock in idle (Powercolor-Bios was piece of crap), the GPU-Clocks changed multiple times between 2D and 3D Clocks while playing => Crash.
Because this i installed ATi Tray Tools on his notebook, created 2 Profiles (2D clocks & 3D clocks), in the settings of ATi Tray Tools i configured to use the 3D Profile in all 3D Games and the 2D for non-2D Mode.
Now the GPU uses the 3D-Clocks in all Games, no crash since ATI Tray Tools manage the GPU-clocks!!
In my opinion the GPU Bios of the 4670 in the MSI Notebook is crap, no driver-release would help you because of this!
I hope this could help you!
PS: Sorry for my bad english

I think the problem is with graphics card, I trier using MSI Win7 x32 drivers and new ATI drivers. Also I many times re-install Windows system and problem still persist.
    Why is this happening?
What can be a solution to my problem?
    Please help

    Thank you for answer darkhawk-
My Guaranty Policy passed. So I tried next things. I opened back panel of notebook and left it open (for better airflow), also i am using cooling pad under my laptop.
Than I create log of my temperatures with AIDA64 during playing  games and its from 82 to 86C (gpu 600Mhz gpumemory 800Mhz) while when I am in windows idle and graphics drop speed to 255Mhz its 54-58C.  CPU is about 70C during games.
Are these normal temps? (room temperature about 22C coz winter)
I noticed that now it can be hours while glitch is to happen (playing Planetside 2). While before it happend very fast.
Can this be only because temperature?
What is everything I can do to bring down the temperature of the graphics card in GX623 laptop?

Hello! As you think my problem is with MSI GX623 gaming laptop. Some time ago i wrote here and asked for help,( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147988.0 ) but problem was not resolved. I know that GX623 isn`t new laptop by now, BUT i wanna get real help that will resolve the problem, because I love my GX623
First of all look at this problem how it looks in real life
2nd i have all latest drivers, updates i even bought a cooler for laptops, because i thought that it maybe just overwhelm, BUT nothing change
So I BEGGING YOU, help me to resolve this problem, what i should do to make my computer working fine, or just explain why happens this problem with "black screen freez"
    Guys! please help!!!

Hey! I have made some improvement on this matter. You mast disable power play in your drivers and tray installing ati tray tools. Create a profile for each game and add 3D settings to the profile in the manager of the tool. Run the game from the manager.
This shut help you to stabilise the game a bit.

  • GFX problems

    Hello,
I'm editing a project with several lower third text gfx.  The GFX are JPEG's (text on a solid color background and produced in another program).  The files that I have a problem with are 10000X2700. I then crop and position the GFX in the desired lower third location once on the timeline. I haven't opened this project in a few months and I recently installed the update to FCP 7.  I have never experienced this problem when I last opened up this project a few months ago or before the update.
    Here are the symptons:
    1. GFX edited to the time line and previously rendered are now showing up non rendered / When I attempt to render the JPEGS, I recieve a "GENERAL ERROR" message.
    2. I'm unable to load a JPEG 's in the viewer window.  When I do, all I see is a either a an "X" in the upper left corner of the viewer or I see "film sproket holes" in the left side of the frame near the "mark in" indicator in the viewer.
    3. I'm able to open JPEGS that are around the size of 6800 X 4300 and smaller.  However I'm not able to open up JPEGS that are large (10000 X 2700).
Does anyone have any suggestions?  PLEASE HELP, I'm on a deadline.
    THANKS!!!!

It may not be a simple PNG va JPEG problem. There can be many other factors that cause it, the color mode of the image, the memory allocation, the graphics card, the number of stills in their types in the sequence. Unless you need humungous images, and you rarely do except for very large motion control effects, don't use them. They just make the sequence unwieldy. You'll get better results with large scale motion effects in Motion anyway; the movement is simply much better, and if you have many of them to do like a Ken Burns-style documentary you're better off making the animations and converting them to movies fior editing in FCP.

  • [T410] discrete gfx - Problem with Video Card and Windows Aero -anyone using 4Gb memory modules?

    [3/3/2010 Update]
There's a issue of using 4Gb sticks on T410 currently that results in video output artifacts and aero interface problems when using Lenovo supplied drivers v8.16.11.8825. I think I can call it confirmed (Three people including me face this issue).
Possible workaround is to install modified EliteBook 8440p video driver (read along this thread) comes with a BIG drawback of not being able to change brightness level within Windows 7. To sweeten it a little bit - you can set luminance level at POST screen, when computer boots up.
    [Original Message]
Encountered strange behavoir of my T410.
I have a T410 with 256Mb of Video Memory and 1440x900 display, a T61 with 128Mb of Video Memory and 1400x1050 dsplay and external monitor HP w2338h with 1920x1080 resolution.
If I connect external monitor to my T410 and launch Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 - image blinks and comes back with Aero disabled. Looking through event logs reveals the lack of memory. Entry information can be found further.
Now If I do the same with my old Thinkpad T61, connect the same monitor using the same cable - I can open as many Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 instances I like (tried 5) and nothing blinks and Aero stays enabled.
Actually I find ridiculous, a notebook with more VRAM cannot archive the same performance as notebooks with less.
Does anyone know what path should I pursue to solve this issue?
UPDATE: Simply running multiple instances of Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 without external monitor causes Aero disabled as well.

This must be buggy drivers, on Lenovo download site is just the one and the only initial driver for T410 graphics card.
What software were you actively using when this error occured?

Is this Skype? If so, beware Skype can regulate the levels on it's own and typical on Laptops it lowers to very low levels because of the machines own noise.
As such you need to stop Skype from regulate the levels for you.
    No, Im not running Skype.
But even if I was, Skype can be set to manual settings to get full volume on the mic.

  • MSI gx623 touchpad problem.

    Hello!
So today i refreshed some drivers and my touchpad stopped working. I tried system restore more than 5 times, but it didnt help. I tried driver restore then refresh, still didnt help. i dont know what could I do becouse in official homepage it says i cant download a driver because its in the os. directly. I'm adding that the touchpad works till win7 doesn't fully loaded in, _then_ it stops reacting.
What can I do? Please help.
(Oh and yes.. I tried swtich it on and off and on...)

Have you tried to uninstall the driver and reboot?
Also, it could be wise to look in the \windows\inf directory (well it's that one in XP and hidden), usually there are OEMxx.INF files, find the one that is used for the touchpad and delete it.
As without that file, the wrong driver can't be installed again.

  • Miix 10 - Graphics, sound and general performance problems after Windows 8.1 upgrade

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 from 8 (tablet Lenovo Miix 10) and I encountered the following problems:
    1. It wasn't possible to install an update of Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver through Windows Update. This update was "available" until I downloaded the new chipset drivers from Lenovo support.
    2. Some times after returning from standby, It displays the message that the graphics card had crashed.
    3. I have encountered several problems in these applications:
    a) Twitter: When I scroll up and down my timeline the flow is not smooth. When I stop the scrolling to see a tweet the display does not stop, but it does a small "jump" in the direction that I was scolling before It returns to the point that I had stopped scrolling.
    b) Fresh Paint: It is impossible to draw something. I cannot describe the problem, but it is exactly what happened also to this guy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-winapps/fresh-paint-81-unusable-and-bloc...
    c) In Solitaire I encountered the same problems with this guy: http://forums.xbox.com/gfw/xbox_on_windows/l-o/f/3066/t/1467072.aspx
    3. In general, after the Windows 8.1 update the feeling I get when I use my tablet is that it has become more slow and unresponsive.
What is the cause of these problems? Will they be solved after the release of new drivers and when?

doing a C Drive Clean up, (right click C drive, properties, disk clean up, then system disk clean up.)
then also doing a Defrag button in tools (it wont Defrag as its SSD, but it will TRIM the disk, (its done weekly by default anyway..)
